Garden Photos - Part 37

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Healthy looking death.

If you have ee's do yourself a favor. Quit watering it in late August. Pull it from the pot and throw it in the shade and let it dry out. Those roots are Mean! Even the better thing is to go visit the Airods (sp) the sticky one. It will tell you everything to do. Don't be a sucker and kill yourself like I do.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

victor does the octopus spray ink when you touch it?

And I watered this one yesterday. It will have to go in the garage tonight. Probably for many nights till it gets dried out. geeze

Almost 5' high and the leaf measures 24 x 34. I want to save this bulb and pups. This one really took off. People love talking about how ugly they are. What the heck it is a conversation piece.

No Bill, but I am watching that it does not get 'leggy'.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sherrie, that 'gesture' is a curse in some cultures. Looks like you're cursing the leaf!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it does take some work to cut the roots off the ee's. mine are in the ground and they are huge. i wait until the first frost and dig them up them - the first frost does not usually get the roots - and dig them up and use a large knife, almost a mini machete and hack them off while cleaning out dirt. then let them dry out during the day and bring them in at night so a frost doesn't get them. always have a bunch of pups each year.

those are some crazy roots schicken! what a job!

Shelly (rc), thanks! I cannot get the new camera now, as I just can't afford it at this time, not unless I can find the same one at Walmart for cheaper, but then I wouldn't get the service plan. Like you, I'm rough on my camera, too, toting it here and there with me, bumping it into things, dropping it, etc. I'm too clumsy. The one I have now didn't come with a service plan, and thankfully nothing has ever happened to it. I did get an identical one stolen out of my car at a local mall a couple years ago (service plans don't cover theft, probably cause they can't get proof that your lying about it), and that was because I left the back window of my car open with the camera on the back seat in plain sight. I now am more careful to keep windows closed and doors locked, and also keep the camera under my seat, out of sight. I try to take it with me where ever I go, as you never know when you might see something great to take a picture of.

Wow! Glad I don't have any ee's to dig.

Well, since we're on the subject of Longwood Gardens, here are some pics I took there on my trip last Oct. I would love to go for the Christmas lights someday.

I love this bonsai grove. I have always loved bonsai, and was in a club once in Reno, NV when I lived there, but was never quit successful with growing them, as I would always forget to water and they'd die. Poor things.

Thanks, Allison. It does look pretty realistic, doesn't it.

They sure can do amazing things with those miniatures ..... Looks very realistic!

Things are winding down fast this year as I didn't have the time to put out any annuals this year (Business, inspite of economy, is busy busy).

Here is a shot of the Black Knight. Probably the last few of these this year.

Hopefully the Ixora will still bloom for me in the greenhouse. It is not hardy here. This is my first winter with it.

Great Longwood shots, Karen. Who was holding the bug? Oakleaf hydrangea. I like the white hairs. Looks like frost.
