very nice Rc & boo... I noticed my asters were starting to open yesterday
Garden Photos - Part 37
I'm confined to the house so my asters will have to be photoed from the bedroom window when the sun comes out.
You stay put, JoAnn!! We want you healed fast!
Thanks WWNY I am going nuts but recovery will be longer if I don't behave.
Just couldn't pass on the low slow cook.
We got a good dose of Ike here. Winds at 50 mph most of the night Sunday. Monday morning there was a top out of a black walnut down and all the pears and apples are on the ground, along with a big pear limb. The walnut limb tore up the screen on the patio doors on the studio, but missed the windows. My little garden nymph was hanging on for dear life.
And, just so you know .... I am quite the stickler on grammar in these here parts!
Esp. the misuse of adjectives as adverbs!
You know .... like "I always drive safe."
Funny you should "catch" me!!!!
Nice shots, Shelly and booj. The gazania and Honeycomb are great. That dawn redwood is mine, Shelly. Nice asters, booj.
Nice Nymph Kathleen.
I cant photo my asters from the bedroom window so just another day in front of the boob tube.
What a waste of time.
Shelly, the cotoneaster looks like you spent hours draping twinkly lights on it.
Beautiful pics everyone.
Willie, if you are a stickler for grammar than I am in trouble. hee-hee
JoAnn, baby that foot so you can baby your garden sooner.
yep my big event today is going (with my walker) to the mail box.
Just remember, JoAnn .... it would be a bigger waste of time prolonging the healing process by not keeping off it. Though, I have to admit, I would probably be fidgeting more!
Those are all the arguments I have given myself.
Thanks everyone.
Sun is out so I'm for the deck to check out the garden.
I did see the Blue Fall asters in bloom on my way back from the Mailbox.
JoAnne, I'm glad that you seem to be feeling all right. Keep getting better and stay out of the garden for while longer!!
Jan, I agree about the christmas lights effect! which is really what made me decide to take the picture. There's another pic of the corokia that I left out because it looked too much like lights!! maybe I'll post it in my dmail that I'm going to write after work tonight.
Kathleen, the crocuses are great.
Victor... You're brave! I think that I would be scared of the thought of having a tree in my yard that's going to be as large as your dawn redwood is going to be someday.
Boo... love the asters!
They're very stable trees, Shelly. Also, it's downwind from the house!
Thanks RC
Speaking of branches of walnut, my English walnut is slowly being taken down. Reached the end of it's life-so sad.
These trees are about 60 years old, they were here when we came. The one that lost the top was hit by lightning a few years back and has a lot of rot in it. I thought the half that wasn't killed by the lightning was still good, but this top won't even make fire wood.
I think ours is about the same age. The tree man also suspects lightening. I thought we could sell some of the wood but it's all rotten. I didn't suspect either.
My white anemone is starting (Andrea Atkinson). I hope it stays-I've planted it at least 3 times. My robustissimas (single pinks) have been in bloom since August and are still going strong. I'll post pics when I'm home.
Kassia are any of these minis?
Tell me more about lilac sunday.
I'll tell you now. (Hee hee). So far I still have it in a pot - left it outside last winter with no protection. It's a smaller one (forgot the final size) that is a reliable re-bloomer. Of course it smells nice too!
Great pictures, as usual, everyone!
Kassia, that picture of distant drums is really nice (from the previous thread). I love your creeping jenny, too, and the caterpillar is neat.
I have just started some coleus plants in my kitchen window. We will see. I was at a local nursery, and they had some great big pots of gorgeous coleus plants. I was admiring them, and the owner picked off some pieces for me from each one. I was thrilled!
Laurel, are those wild sunflowers (from previous thread) the ones they call sun chokes or Jerusalem artichokes? If so, the roots are edible. I hear they have a taste and consistency similar to water chestnuts. I, too, have never seen a maypop. Nice!
I love all your close-ups, Shelly, from this thread and previous. I need to get a better camera. I can't get that close with mine. The weeds are a glitch in the photoshop program. eh? LOL! I love your pic of the gazania, the maximillian sunflower, and the moth.
Louise, I love the sedum. I would like to have that one. Mine have been getting eaten by deer this year, along with many other things, not least the DL's and Hostas. Do you have dial-up Internet? It would load very slowly with dial-up. I have Comcast high-speed, and it loads really fast. I was so happy when I got rid of AOL, but then with Comcast I have been having a lot of trouble with it getting disconnected continually, usually. I guess you just can't win. I usually go to FL in Jan., but this year I might seriously think about going for a couple of weeks to AZ and visit some friends there in Mesa. I miss AZ and haven't been back since 2003.
Nice shots, Victor, as always. I love the pitcher plant and canna. I'm not a canna fan, but that is a very nice looking flower there. I love pitcher plants. That is on my list for someday. I also love that Peachy Cream rose. I think I want one of those now, too. How is the disease resistance on it? Do you get much black spot or other problems?
Schickenlady, I love the Niko Blue hydrangea. Very nice blue color.
ROBINDOG, I love the variegated sedum. Very nice!
Boojum, I bought that rudbeckia this year, but mine's not looking so hot. Love all your aster pics. Great sunflower pic, too.
Kathleen, your garden nymph is really cool. I also love your autumn crocus. I have a few, also.
Okay, now time to post a few pics, now that I finally finished reading all the posts. I think I have not visited this thread since Friday or so. These following pics were taken this past Sunday.
