Does anyone grow Amaryllis? There's a co-op going on with some fairly good prices. The higher the # we order the cheaper the bulbs become. I'm already in for :
1 Aphrodite
1 Dancing Queen
2 Picotee
1 Minerva
2 Red Peacock
1 Pasadena
1 Apple Blossom

Garden Photos - Part 37
I like this coleus and hope I can fit him in the car for the trip south. I've said this before.... I really don't have the personality make-up to be a snow bird. I want to take all the plants with me to save them from the cold snaps! Tomorrow is the day to grab all the cuttings I can fit into some small spaces. After that.....bye bye. :(
Oh, Boy, Celeste........that is so tempting! I put 2 amaryllis in the ground in Fla. and left them there over the summer, so I'm curious to see how they do as perennials down there. For now, I must be strong, having spent my plant budget for the next 10 years on 2X4s and nails this summer! LOL
Boojum - none of the roses are minis...
Thanks everyone! I love those roses...
Thanks for the compliments, Victor. My Dawn Redwood is still small. I just got it this year. Couldn't resist. I wanted a tree to plant in my mother's memory. Like I need another big tree! Pretty soon I won't have any sun left. Then what will I do with all the daylilies?
Thanks for your compliments, too, Shelly. I love the new pics you posted. Really nice, all of them. I was looking at cameras today at Ritz Camera. I want to upgrade mine, but don't have the money to do it now. The one I want is $300, plus the service plan is another $100 for 2 years. The one I have now is a Fuji Finepix, and the newer ones now are so much better. Mine only has a 6x optical zoom, 4 megapixels, no image stabilizer, etc. The one I want has 10 megapixels, 12x optical zoom, image stabilizer, great macro setting, all the bells and whistles I like. Oh, I forgot to ask how many frames per second it is capable of shooting, how much lag time, etc. These are other things I need to know.
Great shot of goldenrod and sedum, Anita! And congrats on the hummer. I get them a lot, as I have a lot of flowers they like.
Ooooo, love that clematis archway, Dyane! Very pretty! Dahlias are very pretty to look at, but I just don't have a desire for them in my garden. Part of it is all the staking they need, and also having to dig in the fall. Sorry, but I already have too much to do, and I can't keep up! Dyane, that Gold Coast sounds very much like Newport, RI. I have not been to Newport, but would love to visit someday. Have you ever been to Longwood Gardens in PA? I went last October. That was my second visit there. I love the place.
Robin, I usually go to Marco Island, though this year I also went to Orlando to Universal, Seaworld, and Wet 'N' Wild. Did you hear about the shooting at the latter park this past April? I was there the day before! I've been to Universal twice and Seaworld twice, and I've also been to Disneyworld and the Kennedy Space Center. I think I like Kennedy best. I'm really not a theme park lover. I don't like standing in long lines for short rides and fighting the crowds. I did enjoy Seaworld the best, only because it was fun feeding and petting the dolphins and stingrays, and I loved the 2 shows I got to see.
Oh, no, please, no frost! Not yet! I'm not ready! I'm never ready.
Karen
Here are some pretty cosmos.
Longwood is a must-see. Every season is spectacular. Also, just up the road is Wintherthur. It has both gardens and a wonderful museum of American furniture. Both places were DuPont residences. Simply awesome! I can't say enough about them.
Tiny spidey on mushroom with pulmonaria and lamb's ears.
Vibernum beginning to turn.
nutsfordaylilly and Anita... your gardens are both soooo beautiful!! NFD, it sounds as if your going to have a lot of fun with your new camera, when you get it! Your current camera does really well for 4 mpix. I think that those service plans are well worth it. I can't wait to see pictures from it. Anita, which echinacea is that?
Dyane.... great Dahlias!
Victor, I love that castor. What is the name of it? I'm not sure that I want to deal with another annual, but if I do it would be pretty.
Great shots, Anita and Karen. Shelly - it's Carmencita. I'll dissent on the service plans. If a camera (or any electronic product, for that matter) is going to fail, it will most likely do so in the first year, when it's under warranty. I never get them. I would use that money and get a better camera or use it for memory cards, extra batteries, etc. The retailers make money hand over fist with those plans.
Great pics everyone.
Nuts, I really like the carex border.
Victor is right.
My excuse for declining a service plan is "Don't you manufacture a quality product?"
Turns them off everytime.
nutsfordaylily, the Gold Coast is very much like Newport. The estates date from the same time period. I would love to tour Longwood Gardens. I looked at the pictures from the Daves Garden outing. So much to see. I love your Cosmo shots, too.
Anita, those are beautiful collages. It's great to see how the same beds look at different points in the season.
Thanks for the info on the Castor Victor. I think that there's a place areound here that sells them pretty regularly in the spring.
I definitely agree that, for the most part, things should usually be covered under the warranty. For me, It's always been a good plan since through the course of a day out somewhere with me.... the camera will have had one heck of a (usually rough) ride to wherever and back, and then probably accidentally hit or dropped a few times, and probably rained on at least half of those trips. So, off to the repair shop goes. If I weren't clutsy and I didn't take things over hill and dale I'm sure that the warranty would serve me just fine! Cell phone companies loved me because I would managae to break a phonee every 6 months or so....but then I started getting service plans. Now they don't look forward to seeing me so much!
i took this picture of an Albizia flower last weekend at a neighbors place.
In that case it may be worth it, provided they do cover damage that you cause.
Isn't it amazing what is still doing well in the gardens? I hate the thoughts of frost, but I know we'll still have flowers to post ---haven't seen many chrysanth photos--I've had a yellow blooming for some time, but it's shaggy from too much shade--waiting for the daisy ones to start. Here is a clump of dahlias still bright--some of my dahlias never budded! Bummer.
