Did she take her daughters with her? That was such a sad story about her SIL--scary too. Prayers need around here big time!!

So Deborah, how you doing? I just wasn't all together today--feeling the effects of all the happenings lately. Once again, that was the neatest idea of a jar gift I think I have seen. Linda 1 was a very lucky lady to receive that from you. That is showing your creativity at it's finest.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Thank you Marion. The butterfly chyrstalids were a side item to the actual glass jar I made. I couldn't put them inside since it was too enclosed and full of lights. But I remembered on the very first thread something that Linda said about putting the jar beside my bed and going to sleep thinking about it. When I awaken, I would know what would be a good craft. That's what I did. I made something that was close to my heart. At the time, I never in a million years would have thought that Linda would end up being my swap buddy. The very person who eased my anixiety about making a jar craft.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well, I thought it was a stroke of genius myself. Such a clever idea and an eductional one too. You did good!!!

Funny how something so simple can ease anxiety isn't it? I have been told to do something like that before and lo and behold--it worked.

No, Kathy's girls aren't there yet. They are getting their car fixed.
Marion, you are easy to read. I could tell today wasn't your best day. I hope tomorrow will be better for you. Soon all these tropical storms will be behind us and you'll be able to sit in your swing and enjoy your shade garden and the fresh crisp fall air.

Tommorrow I'm going to get out my fall foliage for the house and my copper wash tub, put water in it and float some apple candles in it. I think that will help my feelings alot. Just seeing different decorations in the house. Might even simmer some spices on the stove.

Do like scrambled eggs?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh now that is scary Deborah. Just how did you pick up on it? You are right--just not right today for some reason but chalking it up to tiredness for sure.

Oh that is such a good idea to change the colors. Oh a copper wash tub--that sounds so nice. I have an outdoor arrangement I did in a plastic pumpking but am hesitant to put it out with my fall swag until I see what the weather is going to be like next week. No need to put something out to take back in a few days later. I too like the fall colors.
As soon as Ike makes up his mind, I plan to look for some bronze and burgundy mums for my front steps. Saw some small ones to day but I need to find the larger one.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I like to core out apples and put tea lites in them and float them in my tub. Sits on my hearth. Makes a nice fall arrangement even if Sept may still be in the 90's. LOL

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh,... cool idea... Deborah, do you mind if I steal that idea from you? I could do that on my hearth...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I have read about doing that but have never tried it. Humm gives me an idea I might have to try. Have done it with oranges at Christmas. I love the smell of oranges when they get warm.

I have a neat idea for making a live wreath you can use at Christmas. Been a long time since I have made one but this might be the year to do another. Will have to start soon as it needs to grow and fill in.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

A live wreath... now, that sounds interesting... I've never heard of it.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I need to get started on making orange lemon and lime pomanders balls for the fall. I just love the smell of citrus and cloves in the house. Anybody ever shaked spices on their air condition return filter? I'm going to try it. I use those prepackaged spice fresheners, just never tried the real McCoy.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Marion went to bed leaving us wondering what a live wreath is. Now I can't wait til the morning to pick her brain.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Don's home... so, I'm gone too...
see ya all tomorrow... nighty night.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Nope not gone yet, just checking on Ike.

Okay you take a wreath ring that can be filled with spagham moss which has been throughly soaked and then squeezed to get the water out. Fill the ring with the moss then attach the top ring and wire together. Put pieces of ivy in the wreath and keep watered until the ivy grown and covers the ring. You can get the rings at Micheals, Joanne--I think and nurseries. Place the ring on a nice plate or whatever you want to.

Lives a long time as long as it is taken care of. See simple just have to plan ahead to do. I have more ivy than the law should deem legal for a yard so I think I will do one this year.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

nite nite, me too.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

That is too neat! I wonder if vinca minor would work as well?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Don't know but if you want ivy just let me know.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Marion, I'm going to make a living wreath! That's a great project! Hey Hey Hey, made my day!!!! I have succulents, like hens and chicks in pots I haven't done anything with yet!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Yes, I need Ivy too. pretty please please.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Marion, I'm going to use some panty hose legs for catus potting soil and also put some watersorb crystals in it. Do you need some watersorb crystals? I just googled this site using panty hose. I have never heard of a living wreath until you mentioned it. Thank you for bringing that craft up!

Got in late and am ready to go to sleep....my DH said to tell all that the honey, lemon, whiskey is a good one, but the best one is to leave out the honey and the lemon.........i will stick a few good glasses of Baileys, or good Chardonay..........just don't ever drink half a fifth of JD in a country where you don't speak the language.....didn't touch the stuff again for years and still have trouble drinking it.
Good Night all.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Phyllis, “worshiping the porcelain god/alter” was the one I’ve always used, or the more blunt “puking you socks up”.

Deborah, you could do small pumpkins instead of apples, or a mix, as well. I love the small pumpkin lights.

I too am for bed, I’m only caught up on the important threads, about 6 of them, but you all talk a lot. Maybe I’ll do better tomorrow.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Good morning! Live wreaths, huh? That sounds like fun. I like topiary type wreaths too but the darn spider mites seem to always find them.

Coffee's on. Who wants some?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Mornin' Debra... Don left early this morning, and left me ONE cup of coffee in the pot... so, I'll take a cup of that coffee, please?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Stacey, he pooped while still in the womb and that can be very deadly if he swallows it, he was greenish when he was born, scared us all half to death, that is why the nurse had to deliver him. They could not wait on the DR.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I've heard of that before, Tia... but I didn't know it was deadly... hope all turns out ok.

Well, it looks like Hanna has set her course back out into the Atlantic... but still skirting the upper eastern coastline as a TS... hope everyone in her path weathered well.

Josephine just went pffft... she's a gonner.

Ike is the one EVERYONE on the gulf coast needs to worry about. Looks like he's hitting Cuba with the force of a Cat 4 hurricane. I predict he'll loose some steam while passing over Cuba, down to a Cat 1, then pick up steam again in the warm Gulf waters... looks like he's going to hit land around Louisiana or Texas somewhere... but he could turn north toward the panhandle of Florida. Either way, the entire Gulf Coast needs to prepare for a Cat 3+ by the middle of the week.

Sorry if I bore you all with my weather reports... I know you're listening to the news... We sort of get obsessed by these things here at our house.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh he just turned 5 so he is all healthy and the spunkiest little boy ever.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, sorry... I thought it was recent... like a new grand baby... sorry, I pretty much stay confused sometimes.

Pangburn, AR(Zone 7b)

I used to make them with chicken wire, spanghnum moss, potting soil, and netting(like from potato or onion bags.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh cant remember where but I think most who wanted them are in this thread, but the okra pods are doing great they are starting to get a red tinge to them now. i cant wait to use them in a wreath/swag/centerpiece.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

*raising my had*... I was one of them who wanted some... Tia...

Morning all.

When I talked to Kathy yesterday, she said her daughters had left early for Florida, cause one needed to be at work at 3:00. She also said, Michael's mom had called and said his sister was doing better so they cancelled the trip. I think they were going to run away and hibernate and eat worms or something like that... ;o)

You guys are a hoot with all your jokes....keep em laughing!!

Living wreath sounds neat. If I had the time I'd try that, but doesn't look like a good year for it. I'm having a local RU (ORVG) on the 27th and I told Bill I want to be in the other house by then. So we'll see!

I lucked in to a good sale on Friday. One of the nursery's I go to was having their "Nook and Cranny" plants at 10 for $10. So I got 10 for my new rock garden. It's starting to look pretty good. I keep forgetting to take my camera over there.

Yesterday, my GF and I went to Wal-mart and another nursery and I have to confess, I came home with some things...Well, I had to use those bonus coupons..... ;)

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Of course Joyce-you can't miss a sale!!LOL Glad to hear Kathy is OK-I tried calling her yest. too and got the machine....you comin up for Frankenmuth for my Bday-Betty is coming-10/18;)

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

For those like me who miss the link when it's not at the bottom... we're over here now http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/900678/
