(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

What does that mean he pottied inside-I thought they did for 9mos they are in there??

Raleigh, NC

oh my. well, I've been accused by more than a few folks of turning into moma grizzly where protecting my young is needed.

But then again, my offspring are....somewhat feisty and......resourceful, and...... determined. I was single mom of 2, ages 7 and 9, had just gotten an evening waitress job 3 nights a week to make the bills that couldn't be paid with my day job, and the kids were tired of the babysitter coming into the house and eating all their school box lunch treats I'd bought with coupons. After listening for 2 nights to her talk all evening long to her boyfriend, putting up with her completely ignoring them and not even trying to put them to bed, and her eating through weeks of treats, they locked her out and would not open up for anyone. I had to go home - her mother called me up and lit into me.

After listening a little closer to the kids, all I could do was laugh. we had carefully rationed out what they'd be getting for lunch, and they showed me the wrappers in the garbage from everything she'd eaten the night before. Quit the next day. But also got their help making a better budget!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL...Bonnie... we had just the opposite problem...
Had to work several (3) jobs once to get all the bills caught up... but that time my oldest son was old enough to watch the younger ones after school.... he did it gladly after his eposode with a baby sitter, he didn't want another one there... and he also knew we needed to get on our feet so he could have treats in his lunch box... he was a good kid, and always ready to help out.
It only took me about 1 1/2 years, but I got all the bills caught up, and was down to just my full time job... I was one tired puppy by then.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Here's lifting up my coffee cup to you mothers who single handedly raised kids all on your own. Bravo!!

Had my first taste of moonshine, would y'all believe it, in Singapore. It was smuggled into the country by some Mississippians, and that thing was smooth. Nope, didn't indulge myself silly.
Only time I got real sick from overdoing it, was when my cousin paid me a visit and insisted we had some rounds of gin and tonic for old times.. I hugged the toilet a few hours later.
Don't want to repeat that ;)

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

So you were callin' Ralph and Earl the rest of the night, aye Jaye. LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Sorry Deborah..explain Ralp and Earl. Don't know those gents!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Say each name sssllloowly like you are sick to your stomach. Rrrrr....alf Errrrrrrarl.......

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

It's called sick humor. LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Aha!! So you've called them a few times too, then!!!!!!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh yea.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lolol!!
Now I only imbibe occasionally a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. Can't let all these good bottles go to waste. But just for b'days like I told BJ. My birthday.. Kel's b'day... the mailman's......

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

ROFLOL

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

First she tried to tell me just for her b'day... but I knew better... she finally fessed up.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lolol!! BJ..you're a great sistah..

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I wasn't going to tell your secret... but you opened your mouth first... LOL

You're a great sistah too.... *silly grin*

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Well... sometimes it's celebrated early in the morning... then you have that afternoon cheers... and of course, musn't forget to raise that glass before the night's over!! Must do an all day celebration for the ones you love :D
Lord says I musn't lie!!

LOL these stories are so great - we were all wet behind the ears kids once upon a time.

NC was a dry state growing up, didn't change until I'd moved away, so I didn't know squat about mixing or mixed drinks. Now we know that gin and/or screwdrivers will give anyone the upchucks. But we also know great old smooth brandy, or yes, Baileys, can chase away it bit of chills, blues, menstrual cramps, etc.

I've never liked the feeling of drunkenness - I avoid it. But I LOVE some of the flavors and tastes. Anytime I can get the true flavors and tastes without the drunk, great. don't mind the painkiller effects. Think I was 21 with a long nasty history of horrible menstrual cramps when another waitress told me one ounce of room temperature straight wiskey or bourbon would get rid of cramps faster than anything else. She was right. Prior to that, the doctor had convinced my mom to give me Lithium for my cramps. It didn't do much, bourbon workded great.

Raleigh, NC

then I started working my way through college at a great steakhouse, and the boss insisted every chance we get to taste the wines, so we could recommend them properly. Oh MY@ I still love a good Cabernet, and my first taste of a good ice wine was heaven.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll never forget as long as I live one time... my mom lived about 2 hours away from me... and she was sick... I was on my way through her town to a meeting and called her the day before that I was going to stop in and check on her on my way through... she asked me to pick up a little bottle of bourbon to make a hot toddie to cut the phlegm. Now, I'm not sure where she ever heard of a hot toddie, because as far back as I can remember, she never drank a drop of liquor, nor ever had any in our house. Well, I did that for her... stopped at the liquor store... which I had never been in one before, so I was clueless... and brought her the pint sized bottle of bourbon (don't remember brand). Stopped by her house, and mixed some with a little honey for her to take a tablespoon at a time as needed.
I went to my meeting, and stopped back by that evening... she was passed out in her chair, and I had to let myself in... I went to the kitchen, and the bottle of bourbon was almost empty... but, she wasn't coughing...LOL
I stayed with her a while, and she asked me to go get her another bottle for "tomorrow", just in case she needed it again. And, like a fool... I did it.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Not a fool, just a good daughter BJ!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, this "good daughter" teased her about that forever...

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

That is hilarious!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm still laughing. "for tomorrow" what, a pint a day keeps the cough away/ LOL Bless her heart. My MIL believed in honey and hard stuff for what ailed you.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

The part I left out was... When 'tomorrow' came, she was hung over... but her chest congestion seemed to be gone... now she had a tummy ache...
She kept the "spare" bottle of bourbon just in case she had a bad cough again... which, she did a couple months later...

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Laughing here BJ!
Now you know this is Baptist country here. There's this old preacher that believes a bottle of Robitussin will cure everything. Why not just buy a bottle of straight "likker"!!
I got that bottle of JD just for that in case too.. BJ. MIL approved!! Lolol!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep... a couple years ago I had a cough I just couldn't get rid of... was deep deep down in my chest... so, I sipped on bourbon one night, slept like a baby, and the next day it was much better... I could cough it up at least... I don't think It took as much for me as it did mom... but it does work.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I leave for a day and I have so much to catch up on I had to take three breaks in the middle.

Linda, the Dragon Tales stuff is so cute.

Phyllis, I played on here http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/ for a long time, it requires a download and I haven’t gotten around to redownloading it since we got the new operating system. A lot of the rooms are free and it’s the most realistic one I’ve found. There are also free online games like on yahoo http://games.yahoo.com/card-games it’s a good way to learn the rules, though it doesn’t do anything to help train you not to give away what you have in your hand when you are playing face to face.

My cousin got married yesterday, that’s why I was dogsitting; sounds like there weren’t any problems. Considering last time she was going to get married her fiancé, a different person than she just married, called her a week before they were to be married and called the wedding off, this one went quite well. The man she married told her he was going to marry her in High School. He’s the younger brother of a friend of hers. They got together because her last wedding fell through. Just goes to show that even really bad things can work out for the best.

The Wal-Mart and Security System deals were too funny, thanks for sharing.

Ewww… I’m glad I don’t have fire ants, or even biting ants, the little buggers who are ranching insects are driving me nuts as it is.

I heard the head joke before, but I completely forgot till I got to the punch line, that is a great joke.

Mom, as to the “political” conversation with your relatives; I also said if I answered truthfully it would cause a family incident and you’d strangle me. I figured running away was the most honorable response to the situation; especially because we were gathered for your dad’s funeral, I wasn’t sure who would kill me first, but figured a funeral wasn’t the place to cause another one. Also "I'm sorry mom but no matter what I said SOMEBODY was going to be mad at me” wasn’t exactly what I said, I think I said that if I answered honestly EVERYONE was going to be mad at me. I’m glad I haven’t ended up in that position again.

Jaye, my DH is always joking around about wanting to become a moonshiner. We watched a show on moonshining last weekend and his comment was “That looks easy, too bad I have no where to set one up”.

Finally I’m finished; there will probably only be a hundred posts added since I started. Oh well, talk to you in a little while.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Only 16 posts while I was reading last time.

Jaye, lol, is that like always having a reason to drink, if there is nothing to celebrate you can always drink away the sadness of a day with nothing special going on.

Bon and others, as a far as cramps go the best thing I have found is raspberry leaf tea. Whiskey sounds like more fun though.

BJ, I love hot toddies when I’m sick!

You should have teased her forever, that’s what happens when you do stuff like that. I know

I’m still getting tease over all kinds of things I’ve done. Though it seems that if you hurt yourself, even while doing something stupid, you don’t get teased; but I wouldn’t suggest that as a way not to get teased.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Raspberry leaf tea eh? Thanks Laura, will let my Muslim sisters know of that one.
Phyllis, that link is hilarious!! And yes, my monitor is clean now thanks to your critters. Love that sowee looking pup at the bottom there..think it's a beagle.

I stop and have a cup of hot tea and come to find a "bunch of has been drunks?" My or my what company I do keep. Calling Ralph and Earl? Jeeze I am learning alots in my older years--I do be one sheltered :-) person for sure!! Just never liked the stuff and probably was a good thing since I have found out I am allergic to a lot of things!!

Just pass the chocolate and I will be able to keep up with you.

Jaye, you have my persmission to start celebrating tomorrow for me. How is that? One in the morning, one at noon and one in the evening for sure. Anyone else that wants to join her --just go right ahead. Nite Jaye, glad you and Kel faired "Hard Hearted Hanna" okay.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Joey and Kathy are both MIA. Kathy made a trip to Tenn to visit Mikes sister. I do pray she will improve.

Raleigh, NC

well, just one more then... my stauchly southern Baptist mom was a teetotaller all her early life. In 82 she had massive mastectomy, in 84 she had laminectomy (?) that fused four lower back vertibra, and she lives with pain. she's never fully recovered, and now does not mind a coctail - so even though no one takes a third, no one at family gatherings feels moved to turning down the first like before either. we have the most fun these days getting together for brunch. Mimosas!! mom thinks bloody marys are healthier - she's still an RN at 80!!

oh - and I found a photograph of great Auntie Margaret - I told y'all about her. She was quite the flapper back in Prohibition times - I've no doubt at all that she knew where the moonshine was kept!

It's my eldest daughter teaching me about martinis, my friends taught me margaritas about 15 years ago, and my sisters taught me BAILEYS! was married to a steady lush 0 now married to recovered alcoholic who not only doesn't mind if I drink, but he's always the designated driver for us all!

Good Lord, keep everyone safe for tonight, and we'll all praise you in the morning. Nite all.
