Does anyone know which thread has the pics from the 2008 RU at Kassias?
RU in NH - October 11 2008
Took some searching but here it is Carrie.

Gosh, Kathy, I thought I had thanked you for the peony seeds and Sherrie for the sweaters and morning glory seeds, but I can't find where I did it, so please forgive me if that is just in my head! Thank you, Thank you!! Sherrie - Hank put on his "DG sweater" after we left the RU and it got a bit chilly during our expansive ride home. I'm going to take Cyndie's dahlia tubers and the seeds to Fla. and try to see what I can do with them there - maybe to bring the peonies back up with me. (Hank will love that!) I completely forgot to get the plants that Karen brought for me! Oh well, they are probably happily resting in Candyce and Anna's gardens by now, and that is just fine with me.
It really was such a nice time!! Thanks Everyone!!!
I had an awesome time even if it was a mooseless weekend! Really enjoyed meeting everyone, just got back home a little bit ago. The weather, colors, and DG friends were all perfect!
Louise, I got your thank you!
Here's some info. http://www.willowgarden.net/summer/peoniesfromseed.htm
Sorry no moose for you, Debilu. I'm glad it was a great get-away for you though.
Thanks Jan, it was nice, and after 1,300 miles, I'm glad to be back home.
Deb - that is so cool that you made such a special effort to come and meet us!!! Thank you!
Wow - next time I suggest a GPS, Deb! ^_^
heehee - we went from home to southeast NH, northern NH and Vt, into Canada, then home through the Adirondacks! It was great, I only misread the map once...
How were the colors?
Thank you, Jen, for finding that thread for me! ^_^
Kathy, your peony-growing-from-seed information sounds almost like wintersowing!

The colors in southern NH and VT were peak, in the mountains and the north was past peak.
We ran into a lot of traffic in Lincoln NH. Took a 3 mile round trip hike in Crawford's Notch, NH that took an hour uphill to the waterfalls, and 45 minutes back down. Normally it would only take 45 min to an hour for 3 miles. I'll post pics in the next day or 2.
Candyce, thanks for planning the RU, loved your terraced garden, can't wait to see pics next year.
And thanks Cyndie and Kathy for the seeds.
When is the next RU?
I love that area - Lincoln and Franconia Notch. Can't wait to go back. Never been there in fall.
I've only been there in the fall!
Some great waterfalls there. One of my passions.
Have you hiked Arethusa Falls?
Gosh . . . it sounds like everyone had a great time! Well, you should be very happy I could not make it - I have had the worst cold ever! And my computer seems to have a virus as well. . . . not really - but there seems to be some sort of problem with the video driver (according to I.T.), so 80 percent of the time I can only only boot up in safe mode (sigh) This means no internet connection at home. . . ('cause we're on wireless and on safe mode I can't connect to the internet).
Anyway, my apologies to our host, Candyce, for not being able to inform you earlier.
And everyone else - take care - this cold is the worst ever! So don't catch it from anyone unless you long to be flat on your back, sneezing, and coughing. (I even missed Canadian Thanksgiving . . . rats!)
Yes, Deb, we did. My wife found it a bit scary at times, but we loved it.
Feel better soon Michaela!
Thanks, pixie - I am working on it . . .
I'm glad you guys had good weather! I totally forgot all about it -- too busy cleaning up the garden :)
Candyce, your RU was wonderful!!
I just got home late yesterday, and am finally reading up on my DG threads. Thank you so much for the birthday cake!!!! It was delicious! I hope Taylor (I know I spelled it wrong, sorry!) enjoyed the rest. I wish I could've taken it with me!
Karen, I have to get busy planting my daylilies and irises from you. I can't wait for spring.
I loved seeing old faces again, and meeting new ones. It was a perfect day. I'm only sorry that I got there so late!!
Harper
Michaela, we missed you! I hope you feel better soon!
Hi, folks--we just got home today after spending time in NH & ME--we really enjoyed the RU & meeting everyone--wished we could've stayed longer, but hard for DH to sit in a folding seat for long, & he was anxious to see his BIL. Thank you Candyce--you were very generous to have us all! I loved talking with Taylor, & seeing Morgan's red curls! Thanks for the sweater, Sherri--sorry we didn't get to meet you, but traffic through route 10 in MA was horrible---we had to go that way, to pick up Mrs. Murphy's donuts for Doug's niece! Can't wait to plant the DL's I nabbed from Karen, & the Canada lilly seeds from Kathy. And--can't wait for the next RU!
:)
Okay, I am settled back at home and wanted to say again I enjoyed meeting all of you. My pics are pretty much the same as the ones already posted, so I won't bore you.
Thanks again for the plants and seeds. I am not sure whose I finally ended up with, but these are the ones I can identify. Daylilies from Karen, Asters and several types of seeds from Kathy.
Hollyhock seeds from schickenlady. Sorry I missed you. I also have some of your garlic that I will be trying for the first time. If you would like some more perennial seeds, dmail me. I have plenty left.
Same offer goes to anyone else.
We spent some time in VT and this is a shot of Bellows Falls.
Cyndiehook, that Tropical Sunset dahlia looks yummy!
Karen
I'm so glad that everyone had a good time. I wish Sherrie could have stayed longer and that Michaela and Evie, along with quite a few others, could have been here, too. Next year, we'll do it again.
It amazed me, too, to have so many people interested in the history of the house and to be willing to 'go and look at' the historic spots in the neighborhood.
I'm very sorry, though, that there are TWO ROADS with the very same name, but on opposite ends of the lake. It doesn't help, either, that they are both in the same Zip Code!!! So, MapQuest was a bit of a bust for finding the precise directions. But, everyone ended up at the right place, so I guess that's what counts!
^_^
Mapquest worked great for us.
I forgot to say thanks for the bamboo wind chime for the door prize for the furthest away - 330 miles. It is perfect, I love wood chimes, and mine just broke, then the puppy chewed it up before I got a chance to restring it.
Thanks!
Cyndie - I love that Tropical Sunset dahlia! I will definitely appreciate a tuber next year if you do have one to share! The flower from the dahlia you gave me is still pretty in a little vase here. Thank you again!
Louise
Thanks, Karen and Louise,
I have to admit that dahlias never appealed to me until a neighbor "gifted" me a bag. LOL
But, they make great container flowers on my deck and this year they are blooming now after everything else is nearly done. I have a new appreciation for them. The blooms last extremely long as cut flowers, too.
The only comment I would add is if you do containers, they do use quite a bit of water. But otherwise, no maintenance. I will definitely share them next year.
Cyndie
Well, I will definitely want one of the Tropical Sunset dahlia. Dahlia's are also not a favorite of mine, but there is something to be said of a flower that will bloom all the way to frost. Anything to extend the color is good in my book. I may actually try some dahlias next year.
Oh, here is my favorite picture from all the ones I took over this past weekend, after the RU.
Karen
That's a fantastic pic, Karen. At first glance it looks like a great watercolor.
If you want a dahlia now to save for next spring, I can send you a dark red like Louise posted, or a yellow with white tips like the pink one I posted a pic of. Let me know. No need to hunt for one. LOL
Really nice - where was it?
Karen - that is a fantastic photo! Remember to enter it in the DG photo contest. It looks like a winner to me!
Cyndie - you are very generous. Thanks!
Louise
