RU in NH - October 11 2008

I am going to ask that this thread be made a 'sticky'.

You are cordially invited to join us for an afternoon of fun, friendship, and flora exchange on October 11 2008. This Round Up will begin at 11 AM and end whenever we feel like it!!

So far we have several attendees who are also bringing as many friends/family members as they can stuff into their vehicles.

Besides myself, I will be bringing my Dad and my friend Karen. They both came to Kassia's RU in June 2007, and we all had a great time. Can't wait to see to meet everyone! To those I've met before, please forgive me if I don't remember your names. I've always been bad about that.

Candyce, If this week is any indication, we will have a wonderful fall! This is going to be great fun!
Looking forward to meeting everyone. I am making a list of things I have that I can divide to bring.
Are there any rules on how to bring them? Should they be potted or are dug-up into a container at last minute, or bare root okay?
I realize that if they are not nicely potted we can't procrastinate about getting them in the ground. LOL

Would you like a specific list of what food item we are bringing? How about meat for the grill? I can donate a package for that, too.

Hi all,
I don’t know what else I’m bringing besides me. I’m not sure if plant trading will be possible for me as my back injury is not healing as fast as I would like. So for me right now digging is still a big no no. Is it okay to come plantless? As for food, I don’t have anything special in mind so I can bring whatever is needed. I’m so looking forward to meeting everyone, that is if you don’t mind a plantless lady that doesn’t quite stand up straight.

Oh, Yippee! I'm so hoping I can come. I know I'll have some of these red dahlia tubers to share, but I'm not sure what else, plantwise. So many of the plants in my Friendship garden are new, so they aren't ready for division yet. I won't be looking to take much home since we'll be heading south right afterwards. I'm mainly wanting to come to see everyone again, and to meet those I haven't met yet. Foodwise, I'll bring whatever Candyce needs or wants, or I'll fill in the blanks after I see what is needed. This will be such fun! And I can't wait to hang out with Candyce's family...!

All that anyone is required to bring is themselves.
No plants are expected, although a RU is the best way to 'unload'!

As far as how to transport the plants yiou may be offering, I leave that indormation to those who are more knowledgeable than I am.

Donna, You don't need plants any plants to come. That's the whole idea, we have someone to give our extras to. LOL

Victor- Being of Irish descent...what are your Italian suggestions? ;)

Donniebrook--- I have some of the same dahlias that were given to me by an elderly neighbor. They are just gorgeous.

Sausage and peppers, pasta, fresh tomatoes and basil, anything with lots of garlic...

Victor - you'd better add your name to the list and bring those sausages and peppers on!!!!

cyndie - I think "our" dahlias may be called "Hockley Maroon" dahlias. I'm not certain, but that seems to be the best match I've found from Plant Files. They are so rich and velvety, huh?

Donniebrook, You are right. They are beautiful! The foliage is also a darker color than my other dahlias. I am waiting for our camera to be returned from repairs so i can take photos of what I have to offer. I too will have extra of the red and some pink with white edging I would like to share. Any dahlia lovers, speak up and I will bring quite a few tubers.

Thanks folks, I’ve been holding off posting because I felt awful coming plantless. Finally I just had to ask because I really wanted to come and meet everyone. There is still a few weeks left so I’m hoping I will be much better by then.

Oh Jen, you made me look, it would be just like me to make that kind of typo. But a funny typo, hee hee.

To those of you who are "plantless", this is only a temporary condition, .... which we will remedy on October 11th. But only if you show up....
So next year when the 2009 RU rolls around, you will laugh about the fact you worried about "no plants to share". LOL

Please, everyone let me know whether or not you want any of the plants I listed in the last thread that I said I could bring. I don't want to dig more than what people want, as I don't want things to go to waste, plus I have limited space in my car. I will have 2 people plus myself coming, plus a cooler and 3 folding lawn chairs. Remember, too, that if you feel you are bringing too much, there's no such thing. Anna and I will gladly take care of any 'left-overs'.

Right now I don’t want to place any request for plants, I fear I will not be able to get them in the ground. If my back is strong enough in Oct for digging I will help give a home to some leftovers. I love them all!

Oh, I do have seeds from one of my lupines. I will collect some and bring them. Don't know if they'll turn out the same color as the parent. Here's a pic of it.

They looked even better until the deer ate 3 of the bloom stalks. I didn't get to take a picture until after that happened. Funny thing about these lupines is that last year they were red, not pink.

Here is a picture of that same lupine blooming red. Don't know how it changed. This was actually in 2006. I don't remember now if it bloomed in 2007 or not, as I don't have a pic of it from then.

Karen, I would love to have one of your Scarlet O'Hara peonies and some of your pink spiderwort and some lupine seeds. LOL I don't ask for much, do I??? Especially when I believe I said I couldn't take much home given that we'll be leaving for Fla. right away.

cyndie - I'd also like a couple of your pink/white dahlia tubers.

Guess I have to make sure I come now......LOL I can bring some coleus along with the red velvety dahlias. Any interest?

I'll always take a dahlia! And iris, too.

Oh, by the way all......before you quickly discount asking for any coleus, thinking that they aren't hardy, I can tell you that they do great in a window all winter and can be planted in the late spring. Several different types of coleus cuttings can go together in a vase and last for a very long time inside if you just change the water every now and then. They develop nice roots with no effort at all.
