Oops, can't do that but would if I could. My daughter and I had a really good laugh last week when school was cancelled where she teaches. The Superintendent called with the message: We are having trouble getting the buses to many locations so if you lie on a road that is flooded or closed, please walk you children to another bus stop. Duh!!!

Now did we miss something here? If the road is flooded or closed for a reason, are you going get out in that mess and walk a child to another less damaged area? Not!!!!

I am sure you have seen accidents. Everytime it sprinkles somewhere the accidents start piling up around here.

Well, it is raining. Didn't think we were to get rain today but here it is.

Oh well Phyllis, can't blame a person for trying to have a party.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

true it's the thought that counts we can always have a virtual party here LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Okay Sistahs... guess what came in the mail today for me! I must share this with y'all. A very loving Sistah from Midsouth, Jeri11 made sure I will be fully reminded of my favorite and BESTEST team BCS Champs!!!! LSU TIGERS!!! BCS CHAMPS!!!
UHUH...we're bad...uhuh..we're bad!!
She got me the bag, umbrella, a pair of gloves and a game schedule card with the state bird, the mosquito, taking front cover!!
How lucky am I??? The gloves won't be used, I'll do a wreath with them in it...

Jeri, if you're reading this, there's another LSU fan in this group and that's Jojoringer. She'll be drooling over them.
Thank you so much Jeri. Tight, tight hugs!!
This is truly a very thoughtful gift. You know I've always considered Louisiana, home. Born in Singapore, residing in NC, but Louisiana is home... :D

One more time! LSU TIGERS>>>BCS CHAMPS!
I'm tellin' ya Deborah, you're wearing the wrong colors!! Lol!!

Edited: Jeri's in Baton Rouge and is without power. That news, we can handle. We'll be praying continously that future hurricanes will turn to be just meek TS.

Might I remind you dear sistah Jaye, Fay was a TS! Meek? Don't think so!

What is this about all the colors, doesn't everyone know garnet and gold are the official colors? LOL

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Check out the Florida thread: What every woman should have in her closet. ROFLOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Garnet and gold might be official to you. But purple and gold REIGNS!!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Marion... don't worry... just have the party... we'll make our own hurricane.

Just went to get a few groceries... (should have brought some of Kathy's left overs home), and it's rainy rainy rainy everywhere around us... we've got a mist, but not rain... darn, and we needed the rain.

Got stuff to make chili for dinner... strange for chili this time of year in Texas... but it's just one of those yucky overcast "chili" days.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Marion, the hurricane party sounds nice, I wish I coul get there for it, but you forgot the butter tarts! Your not going to make them, you listed everyting else?
LOL

Ladies it is storm season, so please be careful. Looks like they are all lining up, and coming in fast.

Linda Kay

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Chili sounds goooood BJ. I think that's what I'll cook tonight.
Yes cook... you read that right. Days like this, I tend to want to turn on the stove. A pot of black bean chilli will be just the thing..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

BJ, we had rain here all last week-end. 6 inches just on saturday. And I made a pot of chili, and the cast iron skillet full of cornbread!!! MMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMM GOOD!!!
Linda Kay

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Not funny about the chili. Last week just before Fay's arrival I made a huge pot of homemake soup. That's our craving during rainy, yucky weather.

Linda Kay, butter tarts are a given!!!!! Better?

Well BJ, it raining here now and thundering and more dead limbs dropping. I think I am moving!! Seriously it is starting to get depressing with the amount of debris piling up and more coming down. I need Truest steam roller or maybe a bulldozer. A good hard working man (for cleanup only!) for sure!!

.........and just incase you haven't checked: Hanna, Ike and Josephine are all lined up!!! Ike they are saying might be headed to the Gulf of Mexico

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

ALL these hurricanes are acting kinda strangely... too early to tell what Ike and Josephine are going to do... but, Hanna looks like she's going to be unpredictable as Faye was... she's zig zagging all over the place.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Quit bragging on your cornbread LK. They're not good until the sistahs have sampled them :P
Come on over Marion. Plenty of space here...wait..we're in the path of hurricanes and tornadoes too!! Oh dear..we might have to move to Stacey's.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Purple and Gold may reign surpreme in the swamp, and garnet and gold may have a feather or two in their helmet, but fightin' Dawgs bleed red and black and are #1 (so far)!

Hey hey hey go UCLA! We are for any team that plays against the Orange of Tenn.

Chili sounds good. Let me check my pantry for crackers.

Phillis has called for a virtual party, so Linda Kay, pass me some chip and dip. Oh Kathy's spinach dip was to die for!

No rain here but there are some black clouds forming.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good thing about virtual party, our beds are right behind us!!!
Geauxxxxxxxxxxxx UCLA!!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey... we don't have hurricanes... and there's still that house for sale accross the street... sure would love to have a sistah livin there... hint hint.

OH MY GAWD... yes, that spinach dip was soooo good... um, listen to this... there were 4, count them (FOUR) dips to choose from... for 5 sistahs... I think she got way out of control.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, chili is simmering... gotta go make some cornbread... bbl.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Marion, if you are thinking of moving why not come home to 'Canada' we have buttertarts and timmy's ..of course we don't have hurricanes but we do have blizzards...lol

Raleigh, NC

Jaye, looks like at least Raleigh might yet see some hurricane rain - sound like Hanna and Ike will both hit and come straight over us. Best talk to DH about taking down that one dead tree that's big enough to cause pool damage.

no thanks to blizzards, betty, I used to live near the Tetons and have been through one white-out while driving - extremely scarry.

and BJ chili? now? it's HOT outside? I've always thought of chili as January food. We've always made it for New Years and/or Superbowl.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

OK, passing the chips and french onion dip. Or would you prefer the queso?
that spinach dip sounds good. Sounds like you all had feasted like QUEENS!!!
Linda Kay

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Time for a new room please?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Bon, Kel's idea of emergency food: 12 loaves of bread, 1 can of spam!!!!
I have a couple of very old pine trees that are about 20 ft. away from the house. Just hope they won't cause any damage before we can cut them down. The tree removal guys are fully booked.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LK, I'll wait till tomorrow morning, so these pictures will be savored longer. Just bear a little longer.
I'm on dial up too!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

More than 350 posts... oh well.. you're right LK.. will bring some pics over than..

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oops..my handyman's here..will have to do this later!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Bon... I know it's only August... but it's cooled off all of a sudden, overcast, and misty... just felt like a chili day... I don't usually make it this time of year either...

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh My it has taken me so long to get here.

Dang that work thing....

Anyway, to start off, I want to thank the 18 of you who donated to my Granddaughters'
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation-Walk for a Cure donation. I was speechless and that doesn't happen very often. so from the bottom of my heart I give you most heartfelt thanks for doing such a lovely thing. Yes...that's right...900.00 dollars...amazing.

Kathy and the Rebel Michael were awesome hosts and I am not telling how much weight I gained, but be assured that everytime something new came out I made the statement, "Oh, I'm so glad I went to the Dr. last week". Now I have 6 weeks until I have to weigh in again!

My flight was 20 minutes early coming in and I called Sis to tell her that I was there. She said they'd be there in a minute. I didn't know what they were driving, what they looked like, what they were wearing...so I'm standing searching each car....then I hear a "Sis, is that you?" from behind me and we had the bestest hug ever!!!! Then Michael picked us up and we were off for our little adventure. We got to have lunch at their favorite little hole in the wall Mexican place and then to the grocery and liquor store. Such fun!

I was introduced to all the fowl and the pups. I was accepted by Sammie and Sissy and got lots of kisses. Then I met the guineas, the chickens, Casper with the identity complex (yes, he does think he's a guinea), the yard dog rooster Wally and his wife, Jezebel. The most beautiful colors you've ever seen! Then the colorful phoenix chickens and the two peafowl. They are starting to get their color and are just beautiful. Then the really FUN thing happened. I got to hold one of the new chicks that I had claimed as my own, and I named her Sassy. I held her and swung on the swing and her little head flopped over and she fell asleep. I was in 7th heaven.

Audrey arrived in time for a steak, baked taters and corn on the cob dinner (salad, too). It was delicious and from the minute I got there, I was wanting for nothing...I made myself at home and felt like part of the family.

Next day, BJ arrived and Audrey had already brought out candles for each of us, when BJ got there she gave us each a necklace she had handmade with her tiles and they were so cool. Also, the earrings and necklace she has on in those pictures she made herself, they are too cool, but I couldn't figure out a way to get them off her without her knowing.... She also brought a sack (or is that poke) of zinnia seeds to share with us all. The butterflies will like that for sure next year.

When Deborah arrived the party was complete. She is the most beautiful Southern Belle. Her accent leaves no doubt that she isn't a "Yankee" like me. No one had any problems figuring out who I was on the phone...imagine that! ;o) Later she told us of her jar swap gift and I was just facinated. What a smart gal she is! She had the cutest little Red and white bags with frog gifts for each of us.

Sis said that Michael had insisted that Kathy buy the shirts from us, but I can tell you that Michael doesn't deny anything that Kathy wants. In fact, I believe that there might have been a tear in his eye because when we gave Kathy the basket, she was so touched. He said you've made me so happy because you've made Kathy happy.

We put on our hats (thanks JoJo) and Michael even got one too, that said Ahoy Matey on it instead of Sistah! held up our shirts and got our pictures snapped. Then the red hats came out and I explained that they were to have been for Marion's birthday party and they were jammie hats. Kathy had ordered a red-hat cake for her, but that was cancelled when Marion was called away. :o( I can't tell you how much we thought about you though Marion! Your special hat will be on its' way to you via Sis Kathy.

We had prepared lunchmeat and cheese for sandwiches and Kathy had made potato salad, but we decided to wait for her homemade lasagna instead. With that we had salad, garlic bread and for dessert the Peach Praline pie and icecream. Oh my decadent.

Sunday morning we had a feast. While Kathy was preparing the potatoes and baked beans for dinner, she also fried biscuits...if you haven't had it, it is a taste treat beyond compare...she made sausage gravy, too. Michael fried bacon and taters and onions and scrambled us eggs. We had biscuits with her peach preserves, grape jam and blueberry preserves. I made her promise that we didn't have to eat lunch. After that amazing breakfast we went to Wally's place and checked out the new baby llama that was 3 days old. So adorable...Mama was sweet too and daddy was there and not happy about being seperated from mom and baby. There were lots of sheep that had names and they knew all the names. Turkeys and guineas and beautiful peacocks. BJ had a grand time feather seaching while I had an even better time petting sheep, llamas, dogs and newborn kittens (about 5 weeks old). Wally and his wife, Beth could not have been more friendly and gifted the girls (well, actually BJ) with a BUNCH of long peacock feathers...

After our stop at Walmart, we went home and had the Vet's wife join us for the afternoon.
She is really cool and fit right in to the mix, but she's no bigger than a minute! She says she knows she can always come to Kathy and Mike and get fed.

Sammie was a bad boy, by chasing the guineas on two occasions. The dead guinea, Jaye, had been dead for awhile cause the ants had already started on the body. Originally, Kathy thought that Sissy was the one that killed a chicken, but now she's thinking it might be Sammie instead. He may get grounded....

You've already seen pictures of the main course for dinner, but the baked beans and potato casserole were really awesome as well as the other salads she had and the relish tray, salsa, spinach dip, two other dips with chips of all kinds and beer, soda and water whichever rang your chimes.

I can't go on...I miss you all so much.

I didn't get home until 9:00 last night, but it was my own stupid fault. I didn't change my watch from central time to eastern time when I got to Cincinnati, and I missed my flight. So hubby was already at Dayton to pick me up, got my bag off the carosel, then drove to Cinci to pick me up.

I hope you all get a chance to go to BJs, cause Kathy's was a BLAST!!! I'd go back in a heartbeat!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm making old fashion Brunswick Stew today. While I was gone, Larry bought a smoked boston butt. Since it was smoked meant that the meat would still be pink. However, he thought it was raw and nuked it 20 mins in the mircowave. Ain't fit to eat except in a stew.

Bon, a white out?. Is that ice and snow I guess? My mama drove through black ice on the mountain road near her house. Whew, she swore if she ever got back up to the top of her mountain, she wouldn't get out until a thaw. She still doesn't get out much from Dec through March any more.
Hey Jaye, we love fried spam! Po man's steak!

Some ofl the sweetness boiled over in her oven. And you know what happens to butter and sugar over flow! Scared 'em speechless if you can believe that can happen.. Been there done that.

OOO KATHY-do I get to name a chick???????????????

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Ok, DH is back and has survived school shopping. I wish I could have gone, but I sent mom with him and they did well this year. DH just went back to take a nap, it wore him out. :o)

Stacey, I’ve become quite fond of salt brined Turkey/Chicken, it’s so moist and flavorful; it also isn’t as involved as the deep fried.

I’m a big Texas Holdem fan, I used to play online a lot; when I have access to cable I watch it if none of my other "must watch"s are on.

Deborah, my daughter loves that skull and crossbones with the pink bow on it; she has it on a shirt.

Those t-shirts are great.

Sounds like you gals had too much fun… is life going to seem dull for awhile? ;o)

Debra, my friend and his wife had complications with their second pregnancy and he got tattoos of his daughter and lost sons foot prints on his arm. He just had a living son this summer, so I’m assuming he’ll add his foot prints. I’ll see if I can find a pic.

Mibus2, I don’t have your real name yet. If you want me to use it you have got to let me know what it is ;o)

I like Madori sours; they taste like sour apple candy.

Hurricane people, you could come up here, way out of the hurricane path, but a bit of a drive.

Betty, I’ll take blizzards over hurricanes or tornados any day.

Jaye, we used to do a meal we referred to as green eggs and spam :o) It was Velveeta shells and cheese, scrambled eggs and canned spinach (more spinach than eggs) and baked spam. I’ve wanted to make it again recently. I think I’m beginning to be nostalgic.
