Noah, if I were to say any of the grandchildren took afte me it would be Noah..quite the character..lol..remember as a child in school I was always the one entertaining, infact, come to think of it, I'd put on plays, organize events much as I did as Recreational Co-ordinator, so the love of people followed me through my years...Noah is quite the same..
Noah is in baseball twice a week, soccer on Sat. morning and shortly his the goalie for his hockey team and is so looking forward to hockey starting...Noah will be 11 in Dec.
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #57 visit with friends...
Braedon is 11, highly intelligent so we won't say he takes after his grandmother..lol..but does take after his dad....always called him my little investigator..but he comes by it naturally, his great/great grandmother started one Toronto's major newspapers, so goodness knows where his interests will lead him...he is also on a hockey rep team, made the cut again this year, will be starting shortly and plays about 4 times a week...good for him though...
Caleb or should I now say Knight Caleb is just too adorable for words...he turned 9 last week..again, superior intelligence and his mom being a teacher is always there to support his interests...last year he decided that during the summer months he wanted to take cooking lessons, be a Chef so was enrolled and really did quite well..has all his own cooking tools, even cooks for grandma when visiting..now he didn't get cooking from me, but his grandfather Roger sure loved to cook...
goodness betty, the one with the long hair looks just like you! he could be your son!
sometime when your sharing good times, i can understand the little sadness that comes when another loved one is not there to share it.
i feel for you.
Im doing good, coming to the surface finally, I am starting full time work next week so i guess i will be really tired,
relaxing this weekend tho to get ready. work has been ok, she is the same old same old. it will come back to her i am sure.
My DH is just cooking a roast dinner and it smells really good! he is quite the cook.
so here i am, with my jacket on nd feeling the hugs.. starting to feel better,
hey to you all
xx
Oh Betty - That was so much fun. I loved the pictures and the descriptions of what all you were participating in. That was a fun day for all it seems. Thank you for taking the time to tell us a bit about each child individually. Not only does Noah take after you in some of your interests, but he looks the most like you too. What a cutie!!!
John and I will leave tomorrow for a week in VA Beach. We purchased this week, 35 at a swank new resort that is actually still being built. It is a time share deal, which if you look at your pocketbook afterwards, is no deal, but what is done, is done. We also get to travel to other places for lower rates throughout the year. In October we will spend a week in Atlantic City New Jersey. My older son Ben and his family which includes Emily will be spending the week at Nags Head in North Carolina which is not much more than an hours drive from VA Beach. We will probably ride down there one day during the week so that I can see Emily in the sand.
I will take our laptop, so hopefully I won't lose touch during the week. Here is hoping that everyone will have a good weekend.
Ruby
Again, thank you so much Betty.
Your "gaffers" are so handsome. If you want a DGD so bad, consider adopting one! One of these ladies I'm sure would be glad to send up one just for Granma Betty to spoil over!! Lol!!
Well Betty, I pray your ear infection will clear up soon, and do take good care of yourself.
Have a great long weekend to those on the right side of the border ;)
Blessings galore,
Jaye
Oh my gosh, Heaven. They are beautiful. Isn't Betty just the very best?
Ruby
Yes Ruby, she is!! A gift from heaven to us here.. ^_^
Hope you have lots of fun at your new timeshare condo, Ruby and sunny skies too. Just watch out for the sand gnats ;)
Betty,
Loved the pictures at the show, your grandsons are at the right age for it, they look totally absorbed. I can tell you are one proud Grandmother! I have one, Cora Fern, and she is the light of my life! I'm hoping for more but if not, she will be one spoiled "Grandma's girl", LOL!
You sure are an accomplished painter, I just loved the winter scenes you painted on the ornament holder. It's been many years since I picked up a brush to paint anything but a room, not even sure if my hand is steady ernough anymore, so I really can appreciate the detail and skill that went into making them! Heavenscape, you are one lucky giftee, for sure!
Ruby, Wishing you a safe trip, good weather and have a good time!
Wonder, good luck with full time work next week! You are one lucky gal to have a DH who cooks for you - mine will make eggs if I ask him but that's the extent of his cooking skills (and I don't particularly like eggs, LOL!).
I'm off to Durham, NC today for shopping and to celebrate my sister's birthday. It's the first one in her new home, so I want to get her something special and the stores around here don't cater to 'special"!
Everybody have a good weekend!
Terri
seedtosser I do like modern buildings but I have a soft spot for the old ones. My house was built in 1905 and I love it.
Betty your guys are adorable.
Good morning all. Loving all the pictures. Betty you have some handsome grandsons!
Hi Laura. Glad you're feeling better and good luck back at work. I took off a couple of days this coming week. Not doing anything really, but can sleep in a little!
Beautiful gifts Jaye. Betty is so talented!
Have a wonderful day everyone
The vacation is going wonderful! It was 111 degrees F here yesterday! Before we moved we had a desert tortoise we found wondering around the neighborhood. I put flyers out saying Tortoise Found but no one claimed him. So we named him Timmy. We were going to take him with us back to Arkansas but decided the humidity wouldn't be much good to a desert tortoise so we gave him to our friends, the friends I'm staying with. They decided to get a dog so they gave him to my friends mom and sister where he's still at today. We're going to go see him today, I'll take pictures! I hope they don't wait too late though, when it gets over 95 he'll go hide in the shade.
LOL I sent that before I wanted to!
Betty, I love the pictures of the kids! That is so neat! I would love to come up there someday, we have passports that are never used! We were going to go on a cruise to the Carribean but with the hurricanes I don't think so.
Wow Portland! That's really cool about your house, if those walls could talk.
If those walls could talk........they would tell tales of neglecting the house and the garden so the future owner would have a lot of work to do...
I have been renovating this house for 4 months and will move in by the end of September. By then it will be restored more to the original 1905 style. I had to gut a semi-modern kitchen and remove fake plastic wood floors. I have spent a lot of time hunting for old recycled fir wood for the floors, etc. It has been interesting and fun (and too expensive) but now I am ready to move in and settle down!
Back in for 10 minute break...will visit with you this evening...
Received this e-mail, know I've posted it before but where, to who, I can't recall, so just incase I think it's worth posting again...
Crabby Old Woman
When an old lady died in the geriatric ward of a small hospital near
Dundee Scotland, it was believed that she had nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through her meagre possessions, they
Found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that
copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.
One nurse took her copy to Ireland . The old lady's sole bequest to
posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News
Magazine of the North Ireland Association for Mental Health. A slide
presentation has also been made based on her simple, but eloquent, poem.
And this little old Scottish lady, with nothing left to give to the
world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the
Internet:
Crabby Old Woman
What do you see, nurses ......what do you see?
What are you thinking ........... when you're looking at me?
A crabby old woman ............. not very wise,
Uncertain of habit......with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles her food and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice the things that you do,
And forever is losing .a stocking or shoe?
Who, resisting or not let's you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding, the long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse, you're not looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am as I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of ten, with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . who love one another.
A young girl of sixteen with wings on her feet
Dreaming that soon now a lover she'll meet.
A bride soon at twenty, my heart gives a leap,
Remembering the vows that I promised to keep..
At twenty-five now, I have young of my own,
Who need me to guide and a secure happy home.
A woman of thirty, my young now grown fast,
Bound to each other with ties that should last.
At forty, my young sons have grown and are gone,
But my man's beside me to see I don't mourn
At fifty once more, babies play round my knee,
Again we know children, my loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead,
I look at the future, I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing young of their own,
And I think of the years and the love that I've known.
I'm now an old woman and nature is cruel;
Tis jest to make old age look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles, grace and vigor depart,
There is now a stone where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass a young girl still dwells,
And now and again, my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys, I remember the pain,
And I'm loving and living life over again.
I think of the years all too few, gone too fast,
And accept the stark fact that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people, open and see,
Not a crabby old woman; look closer....see, ME!
Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might
brush aside without looking at the young soul within......we will all,
one day, be there, too!
PLEASE SHARE THIS POEM. IT WILL OPEN HEARTS
Morning, sunshine here in my world today...not a thing to do, house and yard in A-1 condition, have 10 signs basecoated so will play with them, that shouldn't take more than an hour..lol
Think I'll take a trip into town and get my hair cut, much needed then I'll play with the antique Adirondak set I found along the roadside, mint condition, just a brace to repair..would have loved to paint a design of flowers on it but because it's the older type slats are much too far apart and wouldn't look nice..just a touch up maybe and they can sit in your garden..
Niece/her husband and little girl arrived yesterday aft. and as planned they went to visit Roger's mom...then hubby came back for more clothing as his friends at Balm Beach were having a b.b.q. - said they'd be back late..woke up this morning and nobody home sooo they must have had a fun night and stayed..today they will be visiting with other family members so troublesome they are NOT...
You all must be busy as well with your long weekend so will say, Enjoy...
Yes Betty I'm working all weekend so It's not much of a holiday for me. I sent DH up north as his nephew called and they were having a cook out last night. I said go stay overnight and go to the truck pull and 4 wheel bog today and do whatever. I got home from work and he was gone. So quiet here. But that is fine with me. Betty what about painting that set in stripes to spruce it up? Thank you for posting the pictures and the description of your day with the boys. Did you get any closeups of the Ceramic or porcelin building?
Weather here is getting hotter again but still nice. I know parts of the gardens will love it. Hope I can find sometime to be outside today. No I will make time.
Hi to everybody and hope to be back later. I have to get started so I can get outside!
Good morning! It's hot here in California, 111 Friday, 108 yesterday, I'm wondering what it's going to be today. We're having a swim party today and I fly back in to Oklahoma City tomorrow and stay the night with my mom, where it's in the mid 90's. Then I drive back home on Tuesday. I'm having a very good time but I'm ready to go back home.
Nice poem Betty, that is the absolute truth!
Morning everyone, new to this thread, but not new to DG. I have been watching Betty's post for awhile, and just can't believe how talented she is!
Betty, I can't believe you found more chairson the roadside. Can't wait to see what you do with them.
For those of you trying to quit smoking, more power to you. I have been a smoker on and off for more that 30 years. it is not wasy to quit. I quit back in 96, and until I lost my Mother 2 years ago, I was doing really good, but loosing Mom was just too hard, so I have gone back to that nasty habit. Maybe a pack a week, but still a bad habit! trying one more time to quit!
Linda Kay
Betty - the poem you posted is beautiful. It made me cry! My mother is 85 and my father is 92. So far they are doing very well and are living independently but I can see that soon they will need to change their situation. I have asked them to come to live with me but they think they will be a burden. They are trying to sell their home in order to move to a really cool senior community in Portland near me but the housing market is of course not cooperating. I would love for them to live with me and I would install anything they need, like a stair moving chair thing. It is so strange (and painful) to watch them change. The cycle of life.
Welcome Linda Kay, always nice to meet new friends here in the garden..eyes like a hawk when it comes to finding 'treasures', just cut a piece of back brace to fix it up/sanded down the table top and back pieces, very old so won't spend ages on them but they will look pretty...
Keeping company with niece and her husband, all enjoying the sun filled day, of course if you know me, I don't sit for long so pick up/put down from time to time..
Thought after they leave for the afternoon I'll try to finish the cement bench, probably less than an hour to do so...
Judi, difficult times when our parents age..grandparents raised me, long story, really kidnapped me from my parents lol and it was heartbreaking to watch them as they neared the end...such wonderful memories I have though, try to put the last few years of their lives behind us and keep only the good ones...
Well, have spaghetti on for lunch, must run before I burnt it!
Here is the set ...
Welcome LK! Another swap addict ^_^
We've been following Gustav closely and we do pray it won't be another Katrina.
Betty you'd be happy to read that I found more craft projects to attempt. I know I can do it!! Tee hee hee.. so much for a confidence surge. I only limit myself to those that don't require picturesque paintings!
Hey Liz..which craft rock have you been hiding under?
Take care all.
Jaye
Hi all. Just popping in to wish everyone a good day. And anyone who is in the path of the storm, please stay safe
Greetings all and welcome newcomers. We arrived in VA Beach yesterday mid afternoon. I was very tired from the ride and stayed in the room, but John went scouting a few times. I am still tasting the burger that he brought to me for dinner. I also had stomach cramos all evening too. I hope that this clears up soon. Not sure what we will end up doing today, but I am looking forward to the leisure time.
Ruby
Morning Ruby..hope you are feeling better today.
Enjoy your vacation.
Thanks Carol, I appreciate it.
Ruby
September morning, bit on the cool side, but sunny and will prove to be another gorgeous day...
Been staying quiet, niece/her hubby and darling Martina are all sleeping, had quite a time putting her to bed last night as she was overtired from past 2 days..Noah, well he plans to sleep in till 11:00 just looked into his room and Sophie his dog has made herself quite comfortable..dwinddling down on my weekend 'to do' list and haven't made it into town for haircut - wonder if someone will be open today? maybe I'll just leave it for next weekend..can't believe the perm I got 6 weeks ago is completely gone...someone said when you are not feeling up to par they just don't take...????? maybe!
Carol, how have you been feeling? been thinking of your efforts to 'not' smoke, how is that going? maybe right now with your not being well it isn't a good time for you to undertake yet another effort to quit..quite a struggle I'm sure...you are experiencing same weather as we are today, what if filling your day? Enjoying more of the garden I would suspect...
It's September 1st and I will join you on a difficult road Carol, not the 'non-smoking' commitment but that of 'dieting'..can't figure it out, not that I eat a whole lot but keep gaining, think it's more just sitting all day at work, the 3 hrs. sitting while travelling and then sitting in the evenings and then bedtime..know I'm a ball of energy Sat/Sun but it's just not enough so it will be more of adding something in the activity line (maybe I'll do linedancing in the evening or biking..something..will watch the fast foods...which reminds me I must go out and purchase fruit and salad products today..so our trek is on...
LindaKay, welcome, thanks for joining us..I can imagine when the most stressful times appear that smoking is the first thing you want to do! you'll make the attemp once again I'm sure...
Jaye, we're going to make a crafter out of you yet..that reminds me I could pour more of those santa faces for our workshop...quite a few of you registered, I'm so looking forward to it...
Ruby, sorry to hear you are not doing well on this trip, perhaps this morning you'll wake and the ills of travelling will be behind you and you'll enjoy your week..look for ideas for us???? Bet Scott is walking the beach right? that's assuming you are on the beach?? must take photo's and tell us all about the area...
Morning Cathy..does the storms' fury reach your area at all..I would imagine though not in the direct path many of nearby states get heavy rains/winds...do hope you are all safe...
Must get breakfast going for everyone..
I think some of you never sleep..........
Betty you are the busiest person ever!
Morning everyone. Hope your all doing well. Love all the pictures posted, They are so nice. Betty, love the kids waking up! I also love the colors in the quilt. I bet you made that?
Looks like Gustov, slowed down quite a bit, so I hope all in the path is doing well. Not too much damage I hope.
Take care, and have a good day.
Linda Kay
Morning! Was cleaning the kitchen and had to make a trip back and Here I am! Good way to get stuff done.
Oh good news on Gustav. Hope he keeps slowing down. We don't need any disasters!
Betty glad you have family for company. Good way to spend the weekend. Dh came home last night and is off again today. He is visiting and cutting wood. Wants to get it done before hunting season starts. Sounds like he had a good time the 3 days he was gone. I also got done what I wanted yesterday. Need to get going if I want to get done with stuff today before I go to work.
Hope you all have a great day today and don't have to work!
Vicki
Cat, must have included Ruby's post along in yours..she's visiting I believe Virginia Beach, better go back and check that out...
Company gone, all but Noah, just washed the floors on upper level , all is back to normal...
Managed to get all the glass cyliconed on the cement bench..only about 20 pieces needed done, will let them cure and then later this aft. maybe I can grout...have the old chair/table set I found along roadside for pick up done in yellow and blue and green..not much of the green will show, want to to somewhat match the birdhouses and the windows frames and flower boxes...letting another coat dry and then back out I go..weekend will be coming to an end
Greg just called he's up the islands, wanted to know if I wanted the boat, told him maybe yes, for a supper cruise, we'll see..they had a wonderful time at my cousin Dougie's over 100 people, boats anchored all over the bay..was invited but must be getting old, a quiet evening is more appealing..
Floors should be dry by now, time to venture outside, chairs could do with another coat..
Vicky wonderful that Gustave is slowing down..I just loved my visits to New Orleans, heartbroken 3 years ago when they were hit, let's hope that no major loss of life occurs again..watched the news this am..reporter was standing on the street all but being lifted in 80 mph winds (at the time) was saying how much more prepared they were, let's hope they get a break..not just they but all of the states being affected...
