Linda Kay, does this pic look like your "sweet dreams" hibiscus??? (I had skimmed to catch up and thought you stated it was named Sweet Dreams, lol) I think I lost this one over winter (pic from last year). It grew more upright and tall, not bushy. I could research my d-mails, I think one of the hib experts ID'd it for me and you could compare to some others on line... It's a very "fancy" one to find at Walmart, good buy!
She's About to....... #12
See, I took to long composing... Linda Kay, I'll put you on my list for Maya, I trimmed her harshly this spring, and the 2 I got rooted over summer are promised to a couple DG'ers who've been waiting, but if I do trim on her this fall, I'd be happy to share some cuttings of her with you. Donna, I wanted to give you a Hottie invite to the MO RU, (it's only a few more hours south of Chicago). Please come. Cat and Louise will be there too! We'll shower you with cuttings and plants and seeds and bulbs!
Ta DAH.. I'm officially on vacation for 6 beautiful days!!
Donna, it's confusing to US who is going where... Okla. has not had one yet that I know of, so I am driving to Texas. It's been almost 10 years since I've been "out-of-state" and sometimes I wonder if I've ever been "out-of-town" LOL. We've got stuck in a stay-at-home rut that is hard to climb out of. Maybe by the time we hit our #100 thread, we can figure out some way to meet. That would be soo much fun!
Are you saying our dogs are spoiled? Oh, you bet they are. Gardeners make the best pet owners.
Well after standing on my head again, whatever that mini itty little yellow thing was on my brug is gone. Oh, well. But now, the way the babies are taking off, I'm wondering if they are going to be the first. Mon Amour etc. puts out leaves on curly stems and then they straighten out. I've never had any plant that did that.
Okay out for some sun and fun. Have a good week everybody. Peg
I am bringing brugs, hibs and hardy hib cuttings and all kinds of cuttings and seeds.
oh maybe if we had a roundup in kansas or oklahoma we could all meet!
Peg GREAT on the vaca! I agree on gardeners making great pet owners, most gardeners are just great people all the way around.. I'd love to see a pic of them curly stems! :) Me too, Lav, and other things I've "pre-arranged", it will be so fun! Your lil snail/shell vine is doing much better and I will pot it up special for you this weekend, so it is comfortable and happy when I turn it over to you. I'm bringing a white night blooming cactus for you, too. I KNOW you'll need to put it in a better potting medium when you get it home... I'd do it, but it's pretty stationary in the dirt it's in and will travel better.
GOSH! Tall babes! ;) Louise they look great, brugs and hubby, too. It will be nice to meet you all! We can do the hottie ru at my house. I don't have extra beds, but tents could be accomodated (closest hotels are 45-60 min away) We would HAVE to make at least a weekend of it.. Let me know, cause me and Mel have some MAJOR domestic chores to handle before ya'll get here! lol
lavender ~
what do you use to get your leaves so huge?
Yeah come clean!!! ^_^
nothing special... don't even use the recipe. Keep them evenly moist and used double dose of dynamite fert when potting and rotate different fertilizers of miracle grow. Use miracid, reg miracle grow, and tomato food by schultz which I use on my trop hibs (closest analysis to hib fert I can find locally). I use rose food too sometimes. I figure they can benefit from the different micros in the fert switching.
AuntB, I would love to have a cuting of Maya, when you get the chance. Thank you.
Louise, I was going to comment on the size of your leaves as well. They are pretty big, and nice and green.
Linda Kay
Wow all the hotties are here early tonight,
I checked in, went to water and there are like 10 more posts. I love to go to any of the RU’s that ya’ll will be at, don’t laugh I’ve jumped on planes at the last second more time than I have planned vacations. You should have seen my AF DD’s face when poor broke mom showed up at her graduation in San Antonio. She had to stay at attention but the eyes were filled with “OMG I can’t believe you’re here. For right now what little vacation time I have left is already spoken for by soon to be born Aidan. Maybe if we plan ahead we can manage to all meet. I’m not opposed to tents or air mattresses on the floor. No need to pre clean, I doubt any of us would be comfortable in a fully clean house.
Louise, I want my Burg leaves to look like yours, every time I feed or spray mine I get spots, crinkles or yucky yellow. They’re all doing okay but none seem extremely happy.
Peg, have a great vacation.
Hum, AuntB, Not suppose to give so many choices, I’m not picky one of every thing will be fine. Just kidding, I’d love a piece of any of them.
This is the second Ecuador pink to bloom, not full color yet but pinking up.
Louise how do you make DH to pose for ya, mine is like no jose. He is so charming looking! I want to see you post next to your brugs though!
Hi Aunt b have not said hello to you in along time!
Hi beckie, linda K, meg, Cat, DOONAAAAAAAAAAAAA, Kim did you get your dragon baby yet? Oh well and everyone else that I oove ion the thread adn did not mentioned!
Good night everyone, look at this brugie tonight!
love the pictures!! Clemen she looks like she is wearing a pretty pink dress!!!
Very very pretty Clem, you got the double decker thing going on there. Just beautiful lucky lady with all those blooming bruggies.
Beautiful plant Clem, but why doesn't it have more leaves? Gee, every time I open my mouth, I just show my ignorance about plants.
Hello to everyone. Having tough time here. DH had surgery on his left kidney last Fri. to remove stones, Dr found cancer, will have surgery again this Fri. to remove the kidney. Please pray that the cancer is only in the kidney.
Love to all.
Faye
Oh, Faye, I am so sorry to hear that. My prayers are with you and DH. Times like this you feel so helpless but remember we are all here for you.
Oh Faye, so sorry to hear about your DH, we will be praying for him and for you.
Thank you my ladies!
Faye, i have quite a few bruggies, this one decides to give me more flowers than leaves, lol, I really do not mind!
I am so sorry to hear about DH, hope he will be ok just like my brugs with less leaves, he will be ok in the end. I'll pray to that!
Prayers from Texas also, for a real quick recovery. Wow 2 surgeries in a week. I pray that it is all contained in his kidney, and the Dr. gets every bit of it!!!
Clem, love the pink skirts.
Good nite all
Linda Kay
Faye I am saying extra prayers for your DH. I am so very devastated that you both have to even worry about this!!! Please keep us posted on progress and reports. What do they have scheduled for tests? Great big bear hugs for you!!!
Louise has a hottie DH!! Ladies I love your blooms
Dear Faye you are both in my thoughts and prayers.
No baby dragon yet Clemen.
Faye.. I also want to share my concerns for you and DH!! I can only imagine what you both are going through and thinking. Think positive thoughts!! God is in control.. and He will help you both through this! Please let us know how he and you are doing!!
Prayers for your husband Faye!
Donna - EP is a classic, as well as being the parent of many lovely Brugmansia. It was one of my first, and I thrilled over every bloom.
Oh Faye, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Sending thoughts and prayers from MO. And hugs for you!
I think a Hotties round up would be fun! We'd have to plan ahead of time, so everyone could get time off work or save up monies.
Dear Faye, I was so happy to see you on the thread, and then I read the post. You are both in my prayers for strength and a successful operation... We are here for all the moral support we can.. Good thing the stones brought it to attention early.. Positive thoughts coming your way... Becky, is it tomorrow you go for your 1st in a series of shots?? Wanted to ask yesterday. I've finally vowed to call the podiatrist to and get my ingrown handled before the weather gets cold... I was winding up the vacuum cleaner cord and it hit my toe, exactly right and I winced in pain... made me mad enough to call the Dr..
Clemmie THAT is an adorable 2-tiered brug! How cheery looking! I find when my brugs really start blooming, they will lose leaves, some turn yellow some have bug bites and are ugly so I pull them off. The blooms are using the available food, so some leaves are sacrificed to allow the blooms to use the nutrients.. least that's MY theory. I need to pot a bunch up that are about the size of Louise's (and her DH).. The wind keeps knocking them down and I'm OUT of protected sunny areas to put them! YIKES! MW is about to POP with the biggest flush yet, Joyce just gave her to me this spring and she is DEFINATELY getting a big tub, she's so top heavy, it's hard to keep her upright... but I'll wait until she's shown off this flush and then hope she settles herself in the big tub before coming inside.. Joyce, she's such a tough brug, she's been slammed over by winds gusts more than any of the others and still holds her buds and recovers instantly from the abuse... I've been told, brugs like to grow with plenty of air circulation, I remove green leaves, unwanted/twisted limbs sometimes when I see one getting "congested" by too much growth, plus bugs like to hide in the cool dimness.. The deck was filled with brugs scents still at 6:15 this a.m. - so pleasant.
AuntB, that sounds so nice, you will have to post a picture when MW blooms.
Linda Kay
I'm off to de-leaf my brugs! They have so many at the bottom that they can't get the water properly!
AUDREY!! DON'T remove ALL the leaves!!! they need some to absorb sun and rain..
I wont! just the bottom few!
Morning Hotties,
Mary, I am delighted with my EPs, the blooms are incredible large. I don’t know how or if they smell because I have lost most of that sense, and my DD or DGD have not been able to come and sniff them yet.
AuntB, I like your theory it would explain why I now have some yellow leaves on the 2 blooming EPs. These 2 plants always looked good and now have some discoloring.
Audrey good to see you posting, hope all is well.
Back to work for me, so glad this is a holiday weekend even if it is the unofficial ending of summer. The tourist will go home and the summer rentals will be closed up. From now until fall I will have miles of beaches all to myself.
I'm here every day, just reading and lurking, to get caught up! I'm doing fine, thanks!
Faye, prayers and thoughts your way. That "cancer" word is just scary but there have been major advances in treatment. If you need any of us, just let us know, either on the thread or D-mail. We will be here.
Just came in for a spell. Been out in the garden weeeeeddding! But, I'm trying my best not to complain, all of that good rain we received makes up for the weeds.
Sisters, help! Need suggestions. DH just announced last night that he is taking off work tomorrow and going to clear out a bed of monkey grass, "so I can have more room." Now, bless his heart, clearing out that invasive stuff is going to be some work and, I have no idea what to put there after he gets it cleared. It's about 50 ft. long. On one shade end I have elephant ears, caladium and impatiens and on the other sunny end is where the new and old irises, cannas and hydrangeas are going. That 50 ft in the middle is mixed shade on a fenceline running east and west. So, I'm taking suggestions! Also, I am trying to go perennial as my annual budget has gotten too big. It's funny, in the spring I have all of these ideas and now, I'm just blank. LOL.
Clem, that pretty brug looks like a two-layer cake. I must be hungry :)
Back to weeding. Everybody have a good day. Hugs, Peg
I am sending prayers to you this morning Faye.Life can be so intense at times. You sound strong and determined and sometimes that is all it takes to turn the tides.
Great pic of DH with those Beauty Brugs lav.
Everyone going to the RU, sounds as though it will be a great time for all. I hope lots of pics are posted here of the RUs.
If AuntB is going to win the Lottery, don't forget everyone here, post me some numbers for the tickets I'll get when someone starts thread #13☺
Brugs are budding on our deck, but none are ready to open yet,I am bummed out about it, but I am enjoying everyone else's blooms here☺
Posey, as a brug momma we must learn patience. ;) That's why you get many brugs, to keep yourself occupied while you wait. I can remember a couple months ago, newbies were longing for roots or new leaves...some would pay for buds right now. Poor Peggy and Beck out there with magnifying glasses hunting for buds... Your blooms will come, budding brugs lead to blooms. I hope our weather holds out at least another month, I will cry if they are budded with first ever buds and I have to move them inside... they like it so much more outside.. They would continue to bloom in the basement, but would have lots of leaves removed and the plant won't be as pretty to compliment the blooms. (and bloom pics from the basement are not a pretty setting, lol) Still blooms in the basement are better than no blooms at all. They do smell up the whole basement at night. We were guessing on the unfurling of your buds, wasn't that you (too lazy to re-read, lol)? I think I guessed next Friday?? They are getting bigger everyday, aren't they? It's so exciting, but so torturous waiting... you planted, the blooms will come. Hang in there, we're all waitin' with ya! Now that all my "old" brugs are budded and/or blooming, I'm getting anxious for my new plant buds to open... so, I'm trying to be patient, too.
Posey post pictures of the buds! We want to see
Oh, thx Cat, I was going to ask her... Peggy, I'm thinkin on your new sun/part sun area... how about some tall hydrangea's (Annabelle?) for the back? Or brugs? Some hostas like dappled sun/shade... can you have hosta down there?? don't they like to freeze in winter???
To all you wonderful "Hotties" Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers and words of hope. This is going to be rough, but we do depend on God to get us through it. It is my honest opinion that God let the stones hurt so bad that the first surgery was necessary so the cancer could be found. This way, removing the one kidney will get rid of all the cancer.
Thank you all, my many friends.
Faye
Oh, AuntB, I better can have hostas here. :) I have 42 new ones now. Yes, they will die back in the winter but everybody tells me they will come back every year. I just put in that new bed for more brugs and hostas on the other side of the yard. And I have hydrangeas, already going in that bed. I'm am really just blanking. This was just so out-of-the blue for him to decide to do this. I guess I need to ask if he had something in mind for there, never know with this guy. He's real good about surprising me with good ideas. And him and his camera sometimes are real sneaky.
