Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #56visit with friends...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Too funny, I guess if the "parents" of the cat only talk in Polish he's only going to understand Polish. Just like if someone were to come up to my cat, Tiga (Teega) and start talking in Spanish she's not going to understand a word of it. LOL Never thought of that for some reason.

Anyway, I had a very trying day so I'm going to hit the hay. See everyone tomorrow!

Hello all..first off, a hug for dear Laura. Will keep you in my prayers and remind Him you are due for financial blessings.
Lucky you Crissy! You certainly are fortunate to have escaped the big Real Estate fall out.
Hi Betty. Nothing amiss with you so far when it comes to your high energy and wonderful talent. I'm just starting to pick up crafting other than sewing. Got a bunch of craft books at the library to give me some inspirations for the swaps. I will be looking out for your Victorian Workshop.
Talking of books, sadly this little town's library budget has been reduced to almost nothing. What's worse is the high school scrapped the school band while the football budget is increased. Priorities?
Physical sports to arts/culture?

Don't laugh Liz!! Nope, I haven't broken any jars yet nor chipped any birdhouses!!

To everyone, a hello and welcome Linda.

Nite all,
Jaye

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, did d-mail you, know our hearts go out to you, you must be overwhelmed by all of this..will most certainly prayer for you as I have been doing, not sure why such things happen to nice people, know there is a reason but not for us to ask 'why', but do know "Miracles" can happen so with our prayers and the Lord watching over you, may one come your way...know words don't offer answers but they do show we all love you and are praying for you...

Jaye it's always fun to take up something crafty that's not in your element...a challenge..so what exactly are you up to girl? Because I'm almost always in "General Discussion and Chat" that is where I shall post regarding our 2nd Annual Christmas Workshop registration...a thread to give out materials you can pick up here and there and will pick a date as well...that way we'll all be more organized..lol is that possible???

Crissy/Judy, never thought about pets as being 'different nationalities' hmm have to give that one some thought..

Shar, you've been on my mind of late..do hope you are ok, please post when you get the chance, please/please...

Carol, are you lost in the secret garden??? come out and play!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought I'd better make a thread for the 2nd. Annual Christmas workshop 'Victorian Santa' as I have to organize myself re materials and mailing..know it's not for a couple of months but lordy time is flying, will be here before you know it...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Almost time to leave, sure hope this sunshine stays with us a few more hours..not even sure I'll go inside, think I'll just find one of those chairs, sit myself down and enjoy the evening...I'm probably like most of you, once you are inside you find a zillion things to do...

Hope you are all enjoying your families and gardens...

Plano, TX

i got home from work and i did enjoy my garden--after no rain and 100 plus temps it was dry, brown and brittle everywhere--now with a few days of rain the plants perked up, green instead of brown lawns and everything has had a growth spurt!

you are all so supportive of each other and i don't know you all but it makes me feel good to read the kindness you all show--a connectedness!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

It is nearing the end of summer, and I need to tell you that I don't think I will have time to coordinate a Secret Pal event again. You all have all the information that I sent you in the D Mail Blasts, and I know that there are others who could organize it just as easily as I.
You also have new additions to your group who might enjoy being included. It was a fun idea for the long slow winter months.

I enjoy seeing your pictures, thanks for sharing them. I will check in when I can.
Take care.
Sharon

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh Laura, hang in there girl, Miracles do happen hun. Prayers being sent to you. I have been there, oh I have been there.

Now how can you have a football team without a band? Did they scrap the cheerleaders too? LOL

I never thought of animals having nationalities either LOL I guess it's not an actual nationality, it's more of knowing a certain language.

I'm going to check out the Victorian Santa thread, that sounds interesting.

Sharon, what is the Secret Pals event?

I decided to have fried chicken for dinner and oh did I gorge myself. It hurts so good!

Wow been a busy morning and it's not even 6am...have about 15 minutes to relax as we're leaving this morning at 6:15 so by 6:00 I've got to be out of here - meeting clients in Barrie to make it easier for them and so they can still get to work today without missing hours...means little sleep but I'll catch up today at work..lol as the project I brought in (glass jar) I didn't do, brought it home and completed it last night..so with everything in order I can have my first cup of coffee with you all..my favorite place to be, sets my mood for the day...

Had been searching for 2 days, couldn't find my glasses, searched each and every room finally remembered that I did pick them up about same time I put the garbage out and who knows, between scrambling in the morning to make sure everything is in it's place most likely I put it in the garbage....so after doing another search is thought why not pray to St. Anthony, Patron of lost objects/souls...said Tony/Tony please come down, I've glasses to be found and honest not more than minutes I'm putting paints that I did a glass jar with last night and there hanging on a hook was the apron I had lifted over my head to take off when I gave another base coat to birdhouses and there with it was my glasses...sooo I can see..now that's a treat..

Darlene had called (she teaches here in my studio 2 days a week) and said everyone decided to buy new chairs, on casters, arms and they can be set for individual height thus making it easier for painting..anyway, the chairs will arrive this morning so out went all of mine, I just stacked them outside and will put them under the back deck storage tonight IF I'm home early enough..I've classes tonight so never have more than 10 minutes to get myself changed let alone do the chairs, who knows, maybe George and the girls will get them storred...

Here I was yesterday posting the site for the workshop, doing a winter scene jar for a swap, almost singing jingle bells-give my head a shake, and the t.v. show Tim Allen I think and it's a Christmas Show, so guess we're both in tune of what is coming shortly...

Carol, beautiful photo..

Planolinda, 100 degree weather, what I wouldn't give for at least 2 or 3 days of that weather...and yes, couldn't have chosen better friends to spend the day with as these girls, and believe me, in a crunch all would be there in a sec. summer is nearing an end and then we spend more time gabbing! Been in contact with many whose schedules haven't permitted their posting, but all said they'd be back shortly, then this old Mother Hen will feel better that all her chicks are doing ok..funny how you come to care to much for people you've not yet met...then care even more for those you have...

Some are going through horrific times right now and our prayers go to them, just want them to know we're here, even for a quick 'hi' so we can offer them words of support and friendship...

Sorry your schedule won't allow you to continue the 'swap' Shar, we all looked so forward to our names and the excitement of getting our 'treasures' you have so much on your plate, don't know how you do it so it truly is understandable..you are missed though, want you to know that...

Crissy, photo's of your gardens please...lol...always enjoy the photo's as well...saw my new lily in bloom last night thought of going out to take snaps but it's too dark out...

Well, another 5 minutes so best bring Sailor/Missy and Riley in..they've had their outing until the girls get here..talk later... gotto run

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL I don't have much of a garden, just a front flowerbed. I have pics on my computer at home, I keep meaning to put them on this computer here at work too but I keep forgetting. I'll send some to you this evening.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Hello all, Going over to the nieghbor's today and help them build a waterfall. Hope all have a good day. HUGS BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev isn't that a pretty big undertaking..your now on the lookout for rocks first are you??? How's Scotty doing ok...were you at the trailer this past weekend...keep telling myself that maybe next year I'll purchase one of those small campers that my car could tote around and do some travelling...I'm keeping that high on my priority list..

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

No they have the rocks I just have to help arrange them. He has a backhoe and will drop them and I will move them if I can!!!!!!!!!! We will see. BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

Are you using the rubber liner Bev or is it a self contained pond.. I so want a waterfall...my pond pump has a unit that I can switch for waterfall or spray...did have rocks that I could create one but just not high enough..wouldn't mind ordering slabs of rock one day but then you have to pay delivery and need backhoe to build it up..not sure I want one that bad...

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

That is a lot of work Betty. Iwish they would forget it. They are in thier 80s. red caladiums

Thumbnail by dragonfly62
Victoria Harbour, ON

Nothing like the sounds of water though...very relaxing ...do you bring in the caladiums? wouldn't they look pretty inside...

Shucks, I'm searching for miniature figurines i.e. skaters, doggies/bridges etc...key on one thing and it brings you to hundreds of non related sites...

Think I'll take a break and key on Canada Pension Plan site, download an application, not sure where I put mine and apply..keep putting it off, not sure why, maybe it's the stigma of being that old..lol..but it's $$$ so off I go..

Ruby said to say 'hello' she's been busy these past mornings but will be here soon...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Ok Betty, here are some pictures of my garden. The chicken we were going to cook for dinner is still frozen so we have to go out and eat. I should have 15 minutes still.

How pretty Crissy, love the brick house..now that's an excuse, take frozen meats/fowl out late for defrost and get to eat out..now that's cunning...

Been a long day, girls were here painting, such a fun night, so much laughter..I just have to shake my head, they are all great painters but tonight NOT, just wanted to play so I played along with them...

Got a call from the hospital today (at least my answering machine did) for me to call them tomorrow morning..wouldn't you know, I've 2 full days planned next week between having all the girls/guys over for B.B.Q. and then the Exhibition (like your state fair) with grandsons, don't mind if the appt. is Wedn. the girls can look after everything and I can run in but will get them to change appt. if it's Thurs. to another date...

Poor Sailor, everyone who were here today must have thrown the ball for her, she can barely walk..or the dampness is getting to her... isn't old age wonderful...

Must say goodnight, got many a d-mails and e-mails today, I truly am blessed!

Night/night everyone...good Lord willing, I'll see you tomorrow...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL it's been in the refrigerator for 2 days thawing! I'm glad this refrigerator isn't half broke like my other one was. Do you know the refrigerator story?

Ug, I hear thunder again, right at bed time again! My goodness!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello Dawn, know you are in our prayers..how are you coping in these trying times...are you still trying to work shorter shift with being unwell? Regardless of the situation, don't overdo...

Crissy beautiful home, have you recently moved into it..looks as though you live in the country?? nope don't know refrigerator story..do tell...

Last night Rita who is really into homeopathy saw that I had an earache, told me to take an onion, pull out the inner coil, warm it up a few minutes just by holding it in my hands, putting it next to my ear and put heating pad for 1/2 hr...last night I was much too tired and this morning not so sure I want to go to work smelling like an onion..I'll try it Friday night when only I am around to suffer consequences..lol
I'm dressed, ready to leave just dropped by for coffee..maybe I'll take camera out although it's still quite dark and see what new is blooming...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not good, look at these poor mums, you can see it's been cold and they've been affected...can't say the word 'frost' this morning, not yet please!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze

Ruby, see what's blooming...now once these red pods are done flouring do I break them off and bring indoors...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Wow Betty, your castor bean is beautiful! Is that Carmencita? I have the green leaved ones, will have to get ones like your next year. I leave my pods on until they are brown and dry, then bring them inside. If you are getting close to cold weather, though, you probably should take them off and dry them indoors. Try to get ones that are as dry as possible, or break a pod open and see if the seeds are fully formed - the seeds for the ones I have look like fat ticks!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
Look at this dwarf lilac Tinkerbelle blooming again..taken this morning.
Lovely home CrissyR..what are the plants you have growing on either side under the windows?

Thumbnail by Starzz
Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Morning all. I've been lurking a bit, not much to post about - things pretty uneventful around here. Getting ready for vacation at the bech starting Sat - have so many things I need to do before 6am Sat morning!! I'm working thru today then off till Sept 2nd. When we come back on the 30th, we will be able to pick up our Sailor girl!! The calm before the "storm"!!

So I will pop in when I can between now and tomorrow night and I'll be gone for a week.

Y'all take care!
Jeannine

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, wouldn't you know got the appt. (4hrs.) in Barrie hospital...when??? Wednesday morning, day of B.B.Q. at the house-called the girls and they said they'd get everything ready...thank goodness and that will still leave me with Thurs. for the Exhibition with boys...

Hi Terri, thanks for the info on the Castor Beans, yep, didn't hear of any frost but lordy those mums I just purchased a week or so ago and you can see they've been hit as has several plants..so I will watch closely..seeds hard to come by so I don't want to mess up..now do you get mega seeds or just a few from each pod??

Carol, how are you feeling today? Hope much better and in less pain...can you tell me is your miniature lilac tag say 'iceland'??? I bought a few miniatures last year, did have flowers but this year, just greenery..your is so pretty..

Jeannine, lots of packing to take family for a week..will you tow the houseboat or is it on same body of water you boat on? Last year didn't mom/dad and family go on same with you? Will they do so again this year..hoping the weather is great..guess it's the last outing before school starts....most exciting will be to see photo's of you picking up 'Sailor' girl...my girl just isn't moving very quickly..keep telling them all at painting on Mon./Tues. NOT to throw the ball a lot, know it's sad, because she just begs/begs and then for days she's not agile...she also needs to lose weight..everyone gives her treats..i.e. last night she goes to where her cookings are, cries, sits with her paw up looking at you and you can't help but give her a cookie..which I did, then of course she does same with the next person and before you know it she's had 10..best not buy any I guess but then the girls keep bringing them...

Loved all the new computer chairs (7 in total) for the shop..this weekend I think I'll go pick up another 3 and rather than store the others I can put them to the garbage...

Went for peameal bacon sandwhich this morning, only could eat 1/2, Suzanne's treat..Paul just left, gone most of the day, he leased an office about 1/2 hr. from here - more central Toronto for Wayne/Jim and for meetings..Sept 15th occupancy..we're suppose to hear about the Barrie lease being accepted by tomorrow morning..have my doubts why??? Hertz is in that location, they've been there 5 years, have not signed a contract since theirs lapsed, they are looking for alternate location but so far they've not found it...would imagine once approached that they have someone who wants to lease it for 5 years that they'll come to the plate and re-sign..but, keep your fingers crossed please, if they don't then we'll hear by tomorrow and it could mean by Oct. 1st. part of us would work from Barrie...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty..a bit better day by day..
Doing the ice pack and heat pad on my back.

My lilac is called Tinkerbelle.
I also have Miss Kim a Korean dwarf Lilac.
But it is not blooming now..it bloomed in the spring as did this one.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm at work now so I can send more pics. I need to get it together so I have all my pics on both computers, not some here some there LOL! I'm so organized.

I have "Katie's Blue Mexican Petunias in the very front, then some Coreopsis, then Zennias. There is a holly in the middle that I am going to pull out when everything dies out, I can't stand holly plants in the flower beds, they get too big and they're too hardy for a flower bed, in my opinion LOL

Jeanine I'm going on vacation next week too! I won't be back at work until the 3rd though. I'm not going to the beach, but I'm going to go see mom in Oklahoma then fly out to California to visit some friends who I miss very much. After partying there for the weekend I'm flying back into Oklahoma, then driving home the next day. I hope I don't have jet lag.

I do live in the country, actually a forest. Here's one in the snow.

Thumbnail by crissyr
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Here is our side yard. There's a storm shelter at the top of the hill now, they put it in the wrong spot, it was supposed to go behind the grapes!

Thumbnail by crissyr
Victoria Harbour, ON

How wonderful 'Crissy'...do hope you enjoy your visit with friends..luckily other than 2 sweetheart of friends - 1 in Ireland and one in Hawaii all my friends (other than DG) live nearby and we are able to visit often...

Talked to Kiska the other day and she sent me photo of the mountains where they had their 1st snowfall already...I don't mind the snow - even the 6' of it we got last year, it's just all the driving every day to work into the city..but it sure is 'pretty' in a picture...

Carol, girls anxious to get back to school and into a routine??? I'm saying 'ouch' for you..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lovely, Crissy is the storm shelter something municipalities put in for residents...oh, don't I remember that you purchased one and had it installed????

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

This is from the middle of the side yard. It's a good shot that shows the natural beauty across the street. There's a woman who said she was going to tear all of that beauty out to build a "cottage cabin" but my property goes across the road and up to the fence, so she'd be encroaching on my property, which I won't allow. She's probably in her late 70's, and it's been months since I've seen her and nothing has been done yet so hopefully she doesn't have the money.

Thumbnail by crissyr
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Yea, I bought it and had it installed. I got $2,000 back from Fima but Arkansas isn't normally an area for a lot of tornadoes, I've heard we get them but nothing like we did last spring. I guess back in the day when they built a house they built a storm shelter with it, but they don't do that now. They do do that in Oklahoma where my mom lives, everybody has a storm shelter. I didn't have the house built, I bought it when it was 6 months old.

Here's the back "forest" lol

Thumbnail by crissyr
Victoria Harbour, ON

When you get a chance would you be so kind as to take photo's of the shelter..now would it be large enough for more than 2...do you put supplies in it or is it a shelter that is only used for temporary shelter while storm is passing through..maybe I'm thinking of another type of shelter that one would stock...???

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

And the driveway!

Thumbnail by crissyr
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I took pictures of it when it was being installed. It was hilarious, everyone at work here wanted to see, but I had the stomach flu that day so I would run out, take a picture, then run back in and lay down. I must have done that 10 times. It was a couple days later that I noticed it wasn't behind the grape vines like it was supposed to be.
