One more and then it's bedtime....
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #56visit with friends...
Betty---
Sorry! But I do not recognize either of those plants as having come from my seed....
I looked at my list of what I sent to whom---and, under YOUR name--it just said "EVERYTHING"......:o)
Gita
Rise and Shine everyone...beautiful sunny day out there, think I'll set up a painting table to work on my birdhouses rather than be inside...just have to wait for dew to dry up...
Enjoy your day!
hello all,
getting ready for bed here! lol
all well here and have been enjoying my quilting...... i hope to get one completed fully real soon, they are a lot of work but very enjoyable!
still have fabric ciming in for the friendship quilt so havnt started that one yet but will once i have it all,
looks like your all ok and well as am i
send good thoughts for the DH tomorrow as he has his interview
hugs all
xx
Praying he'll get the position Laura...such a sense of achievement watching swatches of material become a work of 'art' and a 'treasure' to be passed down to the children..so glad you are enjoying..
Cathy dropped in for coffee on her 'walk', still in p.j.'s but am off to get my working clothes on then I'm ready to almost take on the world..lol..at least my world!
Almost looked as though bad weather was on it's way so decided to set up inside..takes a bit longer to dry so but that's ok...will give me time to play outside...I can always find something to entertain me, still a bag of cement in my trunk that needs to be used....
So, I've a first coat of base paint on all the pieces, don't need to do both sides as the birdies like raw wood inside their homes, so it makes it easy..have a few ideas for the cafe sign on top of it..should be pretty..maybe I can go to HD, purchase another post to set up the birdhouse...could have it cemented in, ready for the cafe...
What are you all up to today??? Weather co-operating??
Good morning Betty and everyone. I haven't done much of anything yet today. I plan on mostly being outside again as the weather is still nice. We could use some rain but at least it's not as unbearably hot & humid as it was for a month or so. Still have a couple of loads of laundry to do too. My Sundays are normally not super busy. Trying to get myself psyched up and ready to go back to work tomorrow! :-)
Good Morning everyone!
My finances are in good shape right now. I was a lucky girl who inherited an old 1000 sq ft house from my grandparents in California, plus about $50,000 which I blew half of it trying to make it in the booming (at the time) real estate business. (I've been in Arkansas 1 1/2 years now.) I lived in it for 10 years, met my husband 3 years before we moved. When I inherited it in Aug 1997 it was worth $100,000. In 2006 it was worth $320,000, I should have sold it then but I didn't see the bottom falling out so fast, so when I did sell it in April 2007 I got $238,000. I (we) bought a new house out in the country on an acre here in Arkansas for $144,000, so the house is paid off, my car is paid off, and Dave's truck we owe 11 more payments, lets see, $305.15 a month x 11 months is only $3356.65!! I'm going to ask him if we can pay it off. He has a very good job now and bring in, without overtime, $3000 a month, with overtime it just goes up from there. I'm brining in $1000 a month. It's very doable. Now if I'll quit buying storm shelters we wouldn't have but one credit card bill, I'm going to look into consolidating that into one bill. And check this out... I sold my house in California for $238k, it's now worth $158k. I bought my new house in Arkansas for $144k, it's now worth $172k! Yes, moving to Arkansas was a wonderful idea, and I would have never done it if I hadn't been set up with Dave LOL!!!
Good luck to your DH! Interviewing is such a pain WOW!
My friend picked me up yesterday afternoon and we went for a joy ride, but she drove and her cute little 2008 Cobalt is just a bit too bumpy for me still since my surgery. She wanted to go into Oklahoma, Mississippi, or Louisiana but each is 3 hours away and I couldn't ride in that bumpy little car that long, but we had a great time. Got home about 7:00pm and she stayed and visited until almost 10pm. Today I'm a little sore from all of that but not bad. I'm going to get my nails done today, go to Lowes and start stalking up on things for a new bed, and maybe a little road trip by myself. I have a 2008 Nissan Rogue SL AWD so it's not near as bumpy and it sits up at the perfect height for me to get in and out of. I love that crossover thing!
I decided to go back over to the old house and sort junk instead. I'm taking a break and wanted to see if there are any "readers" in this thread??? I am going to get rid of a bunch of paper backs. Mostly sci fi (examples, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony & Alan Dean Foster) and thriller types. I can stuff several books in a flat rate box! Let me know if any of you want some. Going back over how, but dmail me if anyone wants some. I'll check in later this evening
Real Estate Crissy can go either way can't it? Overall though it sounds as though you came out on-top...congratulations..don't know if I'd have the courage to gamble with such high stakes...think my dear, you are overdoing..better put your feet up tomorrow and enjoy the day...
Cat, would take you up on it, but I've so many I said I'd read this summer, feet up, relaxing with good book in hand and of course 'didn't' lol..but thanks...
Well I'm moving from project to project..waiting for the paint to dry on my basecoat of birdhouses, I decided that because I changed furniture downstairs I'd move a few things..bookshelf proved too be too heavy even with all the book out, wouldn't you know, just as I was putting a towel underneath it to see if I could drag it, June and Alex dropped by..Alex is my girlfriends husband who always seems available should I need something, he's the gentleman that had a heartattack that you prayed for, lordy I'm so glad he's doing well...so he was outside sitting while June talked crafts, she called him in and he helped me move it..all was well..lol..then he saw that I had a set of flower boxes, my ruler out so he asked what I was up to...said I would try to cut one of them in 2 to fit underneath the faux windows I'm making for the shed...didn't say anything..explained the safety of my table saw...I explained to him I had purchased some cedar wood to do a project and changed my mind so off outside, June wanted to show him the cement bench I'm doing a mosaic on, I asked him what did he think the pole I cemented in yesterday was for??? he had a few answers but none the right one..now how could he guess such a thing..I said I'd have to go into Midland and purchase wood for name/mileage signs and he said why not put the boards through the table saw and make widths of 3"..hmm why not..so before he left he said give me the boards, the window box, come over to the house and I'll do it for you...WORKS for me..
I left there and don't know if some of you have it in your neighborhood but our municipality has kept the waterfront at the end of all the concessions for people to swim and picnic...I passed 4 and not one person...can't believe it..stopped took a photo and it was so nice that I think about 6pm I'll pack a lunch, go down with a magazine and actually sit for an hour and enjoy...
So far I've managed to put legs on the 2 little boxes and paint the fronts/sides and also the large one, just have to attach legs to it and I'm ready to cement them in...project achieved..
Guess if I were to give the houses another coat of paint for today and let it dry I could work on them this week...I do know one thing, have to think of a different birdhouse for my swap partner..this one is JUST oversize, ok for me but not for shipping..it would almost need a crate...yuk..
I'll have a 2nd one, am sure it will find a home..will have to look at my birthday list see who might enjoy!!!
Alex cutting my pieces while I sit and enjoy a pop..
I will probably start a thread in the book forum this evening. Just thought I'd offer here first! :-)
That's a great idea ... gets expensive when you read a lot..great to share..Aline who paints here has her basement set up as a library and everyone donates books and she loans them out..she enjoys the company who drops in from time to time at her library, so funny, last year for her birthday I bought her a library kit..had stamp, passes..journal registry etc.
hello all
well its monday and getting ready to do asmall shift at work.
the back is doing fine. still havnt been paid at work! cn u believe it????? i will have a go at them today!
im loving the quilting betty, its great fun. my youngest daughter bought a sewing machine thin week and has been learning to sew, maybe she will do one some time too!
well fingers crossed for ther DH today.
have a great night....
''x
Hi Laura. You are more energetic than I am. I've wanted to piece a quilt top for years, and just can't make myself do it! May be one day.
Sending good vibes for DH!!!
Crossing my fingers while I say prayers Laura..wow, wouldn't that make things easier for all of you..you could be a lady of leisure and just enjoy life...that's worth double the prayers...
Well didn't go to the lake as planned, bought a t.v. dinner yet to have it and a blueberry pie..yum/yum...I managed to get the window boxes cemented in..my plan is coming together, but just as I put down the shovel I noticed how dirty the shed was, washed it down, shucks, need to wash all the outdoor furniture as well, so I'm here, no need for a swim, I'm completly 'wet'..going to change and call Cliff across the street, he'll be making my window frames and I want him to know exactly what I'm looking for...maybe this weekend..almost temped I was earlier to take a run into midland and purchase mums for the flower boxes but enough is enough...
Guess what, all my directional markers are cut....so now I'm ready, have the mileage charts..this should look great..
Was thinking while I work, some whistle while they work, this old gal thinks while she works..thought I start a thread, because there are some to be included that are on many of the threads I participate on to get ideas for the sign which will be over the doorway..so get your thinking caps on...need some ideas of what it could say to do it justice..remember when I started last month this area was 'bush' ..I'm hoping by the end of September it will welcome you and do you justice...
Cliff just came to take final measurements for the picture frames with any luck I'll be able to install them this weekend..he had a great idea, he'll bolt them on somehow so I can remove them come winter...don't know that I wouldn't want to plant pretend 'flowers' lol and look at the flowers grow during our blizzards..I'm good at pretend, maybe I can put some of my 'pretend' food outside on a table and I won't get lonely for my gardens..keep talking like this and the boys will surely put me away!
Wow, I sure am tuckered out..bath, t.v. dinner and to bed I go...
Night everyone...good Lord willing, we'll talk in the morning..
Betty--I hope you forgive me for saying this--
but for the first time I am starting to think that you may suffer from the "Obsessive/Compulsive" disorder.....You simply are compulsive about having to fill EVERY minute of EVERY day with something you "MUST" do! You have to do all the things for EVERYONE-- ALL the time--you can NEVER just rest.....That is very self-destructive! Maybe you need some medication to "chill" a bit????
Please learn to give yourself a break! You can't be going like this 24 hrs. a day! You are headed for some serious collapse one of these days! Rest is RESTorative......Take it!!! Roger has all the time in the World to wait for you.......What's your hurry??????
Just being concerned about you--that's all! How long do you think you can keep this up?????
Hugs...Gita
ok--i have been working on getting here for a long time and finally am here--and now i have to leave--but i will get back and ask my question on monday--sorry to be so confusing but i want this posst to pop up for me tomarrow so i can find it easier!!
Welcome, we sure do love new friends joining in...I'm prejudice Planolinda, I think these girls are some of the nicest, caring and compasionate women you'll ever have the chance to meet, join us in the garden, don't be quiet, we're all so chatty...
Got a call, now I'm wide awake again..so Gita, will comment on your post...
No I'm not obsessive/compulsive, I just see a plan and with only myself to do it, there is no option but to take the world by the tail and do..I spend many hours at work just sitting, resting and enjoying...come fall, I take my time to sit, read, and think of projects for spring...
But I must say that my entire family is the same, we're all high energy people, most would tire after the first hour of following us around... Liz and Judy will vouch, I'm quite capable of just sitting for long periods of time, I just don't prefer to do so..find it such a waste...
You are kind to worry about me, but don't fret...I've done this now for at least 40 years, I'll not change...mom is 76 and doing the same..never stops, looks after house, cottage, place in Florida, makes porcelain dolls, loves her gardening, casino player (couple evening a week) bingo, lucky if she stops for a coffee..Aunt Muriel the same, Uncle Don the same, my brothers/sister-same and truth be known, I watch my boys..they cannot just sit, they also are always on the run as Roger was as well...just a different breed I guess we are...I've people in the community that drop by during the week just to see what I've accomplished..nuts I am, but enjoy I do!!!
No worrying...
ok--back once more till tomarrow evening--the reason i was looking all over for this site is i think it is where i get information on the victorian santa--am i right? so i wish to get to know you all as well as keep up with the timing and supplies list for it--
betty does that mean you are a type a person--with all your energy? some people are worn out by that your life style and some are energized by it--you seem to be energized by it ---
i am sorry for being so short with these little explanations but i start back to work in the morning and so my thoughts are sort of scattered--will do better as the week goes on!
Cat, I would love some books, what do you have, just so I don't duplicate?
My Dave is like that, he's so high strung he makes me tired. My mom brought up the fact that her and her husband aren't going to be able to keep up 5 acres forever, and they're thinking about where they would move when the time comes, right now she lives in central Oklahoma. She said they're thinking about moving back to California, but she doesn't want to be that far away from me, nor does she want to be in the rat race again with the high prices and all. I told her unless I am forced to I'm not moving back, Arkansas is a great place to retire, she's been retired for 10 years already anyway, and they should move to Hot Springs because we're eventually going to end up in Hot Springs ourselves. We only live 20 minutes from there anyway. Dave first said in 20 years we're going to move back there, then he started thinking about it and in 20 years he'll be 67 years old, and he doesn't want to move back there when he's that old, but I'm so much younger than he is I won't be able to retire yet and that's a long drive to Little Rock. He said by then I'll probably be able to transfer somewhere else (good point) Anyway, I told him since he's so darn hyper he'll live to be 120 and shouldn't be worried about making it to 67 LOL
It's past my bedtime. Night Night!
Crissy, I will dmail you when I get home. On the road today and tomorrow.
Morning, couldn't access Daves Garden for a few hours this morning, sure does put one into a panic mode..
The boss called in, got me to change some of his appointments, dealing witht he building in Barrie (so he says-heard he was partying all day yesterday) but that's ok, did bring a project in to paint..sitting here relaxing and will wait until afternoon..painting curtain swag pieces (morning glories) when I cut them out I WAS going to put them on my curtains but changed decor, have to find another home for them once they are complete...
We had bad news this a.m. Roger's Aunt Angeline had a massive heart attack, now brain dead, waiting to turn off life support and within another 1/2 hr. got a call to say his Uncle Fred died last night..sad but guess it's that generation, all about same age..makes one antsy as I consider myself in that last generation...waiting for the 3rd. thing to fall...
Sent Paul an e-mail requesting next Wedn. and Thurs. off - want to take the 4 boys to the Canadian National Exhibition, none have been and then all the girls were asking me if we could do our annual B.B.Q. at the house so hopefully he'll ok the 2 days and next Wednesday rain or shine, we'll have the B.B.Q. and then I'll leave witht he boys..it's our long weekend, last of the summer, lordy that went quick.....
Spoke with Darlene last night and we were talking about back deck..her hubby Mike will drop by sometime this week and take measurements for me with regards to having the back deck screened in and/or windows put throughout so I can use it as an all season room, that way when there is 6' of snow, I can sit it a garden like atmosphere..so now I will find out the $$$ and decide...
Another friend Linda who lost her hubby last year at 51 just sold her house and bought a condo on the Bay so she doesn't need the snowblower..Darlene will check to see if perhaps I could purchase it..know I have a snowplowman but with the snow we've been having it sure would help me to have it as a backup..I'm excited about that...so you see, I'm planning early..it seems early but it's just around the corner...
Planolinda, just trying to decide where to put the thread for my "Victorian Workshop"? I've 8 faces here with me just sitting looking at me, lol, better get them painted..ah, to have such a job that I can do crafts, lucky me...I'm hoping as the names come on I'll get packages made up and mailed up then won't be rushing when time comes...so yes, you've the right thread..2nd Annual Craft Project will be fun...
Crissy it's hard isn't it pre-planning where you will want to eventually retire to..it's wonderful that he could have the opportunity to relocate, that option doesn't happen to many...will you encourage your mom to move close to Hot Springs so you'll both be closer to each other???
My mom is in Toronto and because I travel the 100 miles to Toronto each and every day, last think I want to do is drive back to the city..however, their cottage is in Washago, about 45 minutes from me, but her schedule is always so busy on the weekends as is mine that we rarely either of us make the attempt to drive to the other..telephone calls fill our void..but then in Dec. she leaves for Clearwater, Florida and spends the winter at her place, I'll try to get 3 weeks off rather than the 2 this year to drive her down...
It's a sunshine day, saying that this week will be the nicest of all the summer weeks we've had, that is once the storm passes through this aft. noon...should do like the boss, take a day off...
That's fine Cat, no rush.
It is hard, but unless something happens I'm not going anywhere. My mom lives 5 hours away, she's in central Oklahoma and I'm in central Arkansas. She'll go back and forth with it before she does anything anyway. I would be very happy if we both ended up in Hot Springs.
Had an Uncle Crissy who lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma..dropped in for a visit the year I travelled all of Texas..beautiful country..he's since passed as has his wife...know exactly when it was (month before Roger died) 1990..that night, my friend whom we always travelled together (she since died as well) lordy I've a lot of people who have passed on...anyway, she fell on the floor during the night, later as we were travelling they said they had a minor earthquake...
Hi All! Hope everyone had a great weekend! We spent Sat out on the lake with friends who had never been on our boat. It was a perfect day to be out on the water!!!
Busy yesterday. Took DD to get a perm she had been begging for. Wasn't keen on the idea but I have to admit, it looks quite good. I've posted a pic below from our visit with the puppies yesterday.
DH and I are heading back to the '80s tonight - we're going to see The Boss - Bruce Springsteen. It's been over 20 yrs since we've seen him so I hope I can stand for the 5+ hrs since we'll be on the floor with the masses. We have to get there before 5pm to get a lottery tkt for the gen. admission spots. What happened to the good 'ol days of opening the gates and running like crazy to the front???
Well, off to get a little more work done. Have a great day!!
Being from California I have felt many earthquakes, they are no fun. I remember when I was a child we had earthquake after earthquake, every 10 minutes the ground was moving, and it did that all day long! I was so scared it was unbelievable! The 1989 Loma Prieta quake was the strongest I've ever felt, it broke the Bay Bridge and there was a double decker freeway, called the Nimitz, it collapsed. It registered 6.9, here's the info on it if you feel like reading about it, if you didn't hear about it. There's an aerial picture on the link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Earthquake
Well Hello...
Geesh feels like forever since I got a good chance to visit.
I have missed you all.

Was very sorry to hear about your Aunt.
Crissy, Glad to see you are feeling much better and able to get out, lol even if it was a bit bumpy. Now you have fun shopping!
Oh, Bev...Hope you have a blast camping, it's been a while huh? I know the weather is suppose to be splendid so you have fun.
Ohhh, G i t a...what happen to the rest of pictures??? LOL, I know, youve been working, youve been in the your beautiful gardens, and I know you have been watching the olympics...and the best one ROFL, I know you've been procrastenating too!! hehehe. OH, so now that they have no more plants at HD does that mean you are back inside on phones? Yuk, big difference huh.
Hello Gilli!! Was so nice to see you've been in your gardens. Good you got a chance to come say hi. Wow, can hardly believe schools is already starting!
Ves, Hows being back to work? I was glad you had a nice break. I found that picure of the cardinal for you, but um, it's on home computer and sigh I'm m at office. How about this weather is it still gorgeous up in the North woods?
Laura, Always makes me smile to see you are feeling well. Glad the back isn't giving you anymore trouble. How nice too that you are working on your quilt again too...It is one thing Ive never tried, well I actually made a few pieces of a "log" with a group of coworkers but that was just 4 squares. but never one of my own. Anyway it will be nice to see yours when you are done...Oh I hope your honey's interview went well!
Cat, nice to see ya. LOL, even though you are on th road again. I always seem to miss you. So hope it's a good trip. Winter is coming so I might be interested in a few books. Maybe if you have a list you can d-mail me as well.
I hope you have some success at the old house.
Waving Hello to Shar, Havent heard from you in ages, so I just hope you are doing well.
Lets see, Lizrainey!! Hello Girl. Hope you are doing well too. Staying out of mischiff with the swaps? Can't wait to see what you have done..I know someone is mighty lucky.
Ruby,Ruby...How are you? Hope you are doing well too.
Well, Don't know who else I am missing so wil give a general Hi and I DO hope you are well cause i think of all of you each day.
Waving to Dawn, Tangi, Rachie, Tropi...
Who am I missing?? Carol!! you must be playing in secret garden.
and GG...Won't be long now, yippee a new puppy for you!
Ok..well i am back to this big project, LOL they are few but they are kind of big
so it makes for a busy busy day for me.
At home was yanking weeds all weekend. Finally. And I had a critter come a visit and just would not go away. LOL. New Critter?? Yep my neighbors Kitten.
A white little guy, I will have to name it snowball since i don't know its name.
Anyway he just would go, played with a cicada for the longest time, then helped chop down the rest of the burdock...I had to finally stop because he kept getting close to the blade. So I went in to get a drink and when I came he was LOUNGING under my picnic table. OK decided he was ok company until he tried to get in the screenhouse. Can't allow that because Only my Bird can visit me there, plus the door was open and I didn't want him gong after my Feathers. So...LOL, story goes on. DH come home and says um no cats, i give him my no kidding look and said he won't go home! So DH stands rather regally to snowball and pointing to kitty's house and says in POLISH go home,
The cat, looks at DH, meows a couple of times and goes Home!!! I almost hit the floor, that cat doesn't understand english! hahahaha, that was just to funny.
Ok got to go...See you later.

Judy, you are too funny for words...how is Steve's poison oak..all gone..hope he stays clear of brush up at the cottage...was just telling Suzanne that only 2 more holidays remain before Christmas..imagine, weekend of the 30th (Labour Day) and then Oct. 13th - our Thanksgiving and then 'Jingle Bells' aren't I just a bundle of good news...that means one thing to me, organize my Christmas list and pick up gifts or make gifts from time to time..hard to believe kids will be in school 2 weeks tomorrow..
Are you all organized now with paper work, doctor appts. etc.?
haha, Betty...crazy how fast time is just a rolling by!
...Yes we are ready, The only thing left is the Books for Sabrina, which the sale is tomorrow. DH going to battle that one, LOL. Kids had fun shopping for school supplies Saturday. They got a few outfits too. LOL, they were actually excited to go, but i can remember shopping for school combing thu the sale ads. And they have already backpacked everything up!
Julia is really, really excited about going to college.
As for DH, well it's gone but he is still peeling the skin from all the dryness the medicine did. Now he thinks he got it from that vine I showed you. Remember i thought it was poinson ivy? So i don't know I think I am not going to chance it and get rid of it...
Ok so, forgot I took a pic of the Polish Hunter,
(don't anyone get upset about that remark please.
it isn't meant in any bad way, name or shape. It is simply true He's a polish cat!)
Can you see the cicada between his little paws?
