Everytime I post, when the page loads, the first thing showing is all that snow!
Was just thinking I was not quite ready to see snow "everday" (e.g. that picture) just yet, myself and here, now everyone has to see it everyday. < evil grin >
Still enjoying the summertime!

Mostly cloudy and humid. 71. WC, how has the summer been for you in terms of total rain compared to 'normal' or other years, as measured by your station?
Temp 75.7°, Wind W 7.5, Rh 55%, Baro 29.91 steady. ☺
A developing cloud cover along with Low moisture laden clouds blocking most of the sunshine today, predicted high of 79°. Rain expected here tomorrow.
Though I've had this particular station for 3yrs now I didn't install the data collection software for it until July 22 of this year, (ok, so I procrastinated a little). Therefore I can't answer that question with the numbers. I can tell you subjectively that it has dramatically been on the decline, even with one month's readings it shows a downward trend.
Predictions, (as I'm sure you know), are for more intense, violent storms but an overall decline in total accumulated precipitation throughout the year.
Thanks. For here, I would guess we are a bit low overall, with the rain coming in bunches. I stopped believing predictions long ago!
Same here, (bunches), more consistent rainfall would be much more preferable, the way it is now the plants are always stressed. Don't know what to believe anymore either, except that I know some states would kill for water. My friend in Fla can only water his yard once a week, else the cops will give him a summons!
He probably got more than he wanted the past few days.
Yes, tropical storms can be bad, especially when you get a couple hitting back to back. He was lucky it didn’t turn into a hurricane, he lives on the west coast of Fla. I was in Fla for Hugo and I saw the Miami twister as well. Tractor trailers on top of houses, commercial airplanes in the airport upside-down, no running water, no electricity, no gas (cooking or driving), for days, & guys in trucks charging $10 for a gallon of water. Whole neighborhoods wiped out & bulldozed into small piles at the intersections, -it gets real bad.
Never want to go though one again…
That's terrible. Do you mean Andrew? I thought Hugo hit Carolina.
Right, it was Andrew, (I'm terrible with names). I'm one of those people that forget a person's name right after I shake their hands but I never forget a face! (A bad and sometimes embarrassing habit I have to get rid of.) lol! ☺
Another lovely day in the neighborhood today--weeded the bricks in the garden patio, picked some veggies, saw the Mets lose ANOTHER one! But the temp was low 80's, puffy clouds, light breeze--what's not to love?
Breezy & comfortable tp work.
63 now
cloudy dat hi of 70.
Temp 73.9°, Wind WSW 5.8, Rh 59%, Baro 29.71 steady. ☺
Cloudy am with chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, expected high of 82°.
72 and humid. Supposedly some rain here too - I'll believe when I see it.
Oops! I am late today.

Short, heavy shower this am--now the sun is shining--humid---hope to get more rain--never thought I'd say that!
Cloudy, humid, chance of showers( I'll believe when I see it)
1st day of kindergarten for my son!!!!!!!!
Is he your first child to go to school?
They always look so small when they go off alone.
Thats the hardest time to be a parent.
Take a deep breath and remember who raised him.
Yep my first. He did 3 day pre-k last year, but now it's 5 day full day. They had a yahoo/boo hoo party for the kindergarten parents after the kids went inside, which was a great idea. They were also taking pics all day today and burning disks for us. The principal also said if we were wondering how they were doing during the day to give her a call and she'd go peek in the classroom for us.
Atta gal
You'll recover, Jen! They're starting early. We don't start until next Wednesday. Still waiting for the promised rain...I'll have to start dragging the hose out tomorrow if we get nothing.
Feels like the change is coming through - without the rain, of course. Grrr! Hoses tomorrow. Feels very nice. RH dropping, skies clear and a decent breeze. Just got my Fairweather catalog - uh oh.
Heard rumblings, but no rain drops yet.
Congrats on your "young man" Jen.
Those rumblings you heard were me, Nance.
Its dark here too an hour later.
temp now 50 with a sunny day high of 74
Some places south of us had night temps in the 40's.
Its comming.
Plants are giving up ,lower leaves on Basil are going yellow.
Time to make my winter schedual and wait for th January Catalogues.
WC-I can't believe your pictures of Jupiter. Amazing - do you have any other pics you can share?
Blue Skies here - 60° going up to the high 70's
First Sunset before 8PM
It's COLD!! (This IS August, right?)

Sunny, Clear blue skies this am, projected high of 80°. ☺
Thanks Anita, most people don’t realize how much they can see with an amateur telescope, they assume you need a 40” lens when in fact the telescopes nowadays are very good quality and within reach of almost every budget. Galileo saw Jupiter’s four moons with a handmade 3” scope, in fact if it wasn’t for Jupiter’s brightness you could see the moons with the naked eye.
I have more pics in an overly heavy cardboard box I keep in the crawlspace. They are prints and negatives I developed myself years ago. Most are B&W, but just before I left astro- photography I had bought a color analyzer for my darkroom and started taking Color sandwiched shots with B&W film. Job responsibilities took me out of NY and I had to pack up my darkroom and relocate a couple of times & the demands of the job took precedence over the hobby. By the time I got back my hands, my knees and my back told me that the telescopes had gotten heavier and since its very hard to ignore them when they complain, I take it easier now don’t use them as much as I’d like to. There very heavy to take apart, put back together, then align, observe, & then take apart again in one evening!
- I’ll see what I can find down there and post a couple sometime, (I don’t want to turn ‘The weather thread” into ‘The Astro- thread” look what happened to ‘clouds’ & 'The cloud thread’! Lol! ☺
Beautiful morning! 61 and clear as a bell. All that may be true, WC, IF you have dark skies. Those are hard to find in many places. There is a group that did weekly observations in Harriman park. They said the Palisades mall - 20 miles away, really killed the 'seeing'.
Dark skies are the absolute best for viewing, IMO don't think there is anywhere within a 200 mile radius of NYC that has 'real' dark skies, (or really clean ocean water for that matter). The problem with taking pics of faint objects such as galaxies & nebula is not that you cant find the object within your telescope's limits, it's that you cant take a 5min long exposure W/O getting background sky. So you have to 'stack' them and you loose detail when you 'over-stack'. The best dark skies that I've seen was on the Isand of Guadalupe 30 yrs ago - there were so many stars you couldn’t find the big dipper! Pollution & Hubble will probably obsolete every land based optical telescope You can watch a real time feed on the internet of an observatory's session on the internet nowadays ... ☺
Nice and cool here, too. Temps are still in the upper 60s, but it's nice and sunny.
I told you about my friends on LI with the observatory. They recently purchased land in Westerlo, outside of Albany. He says there is good, black night sky there which is why they chose it. He is seriously into astronomy, and we counted 7 scopes while we were there!
One for every day!
lol! Never can have too many.
Looked up Fairweather in watchdog then went to their website. lo and behold it is only about 20 miles away. What planet have I been living on? Actually there are quite a few nurseries in our county. Mostly wholesale though. I saw they are having an open house. I might just have to go? Victor have you ever been there? I also will have to order a catalog.
Today was gorgeous, but none of the promised rain. I am with those that will believe it when I see it.
Never been there. Would love to go one day. Weeze (venu) has been there. I have ordered from them over 20 times so I guess you can say I like them.
