'Garden Party' was just planted this spring and is a shorter lily but what a show it's putting on!

Talking to a landscape guy who will cut down a dead spruce.
He said the warm March that brought on the plants early is why they are acting like fall.Everything is two weeks ahead of itself.
We also had a cold May.Plants must really be confused.
Thats a beautiful Mex,SF

My Conc dores did the same thing, big blooms on 3 foot stems Brent&B this spring.
RC says they will shoot next year.

Garden Party IS a short lily....they only grow about 18", it won't get much bigger! LOL

Very interesting fungi Bill. That spiky yellow is really different. Such a variety in shapes and colors, very cool things these fungi.

lady slippers were EVERY WHERE

Quote "lady slippers were EVERY WHERE" one thing i've never mentioned on DG but knew about. I was afraid everyone would flock to Maine and dig them up.....they were on our rare/endangered species list. They can only be found in 15 towns in the entire state of Maine. They are rare and endangered from being lost to our state in the forseeable future. They are highly vulnerable to human activity.

Man, you guys have been busy!

Wha - I wished my bunchberry looked anything near that good. I think I have it in a bad spot, but I don't have a better place to move it to right now :(

My self seeded rudbeckia are still going strong. The purple/blue globe thistle is finally blooming (behind what was the white thistle which is now gray), and you can see the pink lobelia in the back (in the stream, and the hummer is eating from it - w00t!). Then there's the big unknown that hasn't flowered yet towering over everything. It is a roadside wildflower/weed, but want to know what it is before I pull it. Waiting for it to flower.

Here's another view of the same area, and you can see some of the "other" rudbeckia to the left. and that's monarda in second bloom up front. the clethra in back is finishing up.

I got some dahlia tubers from someone, but only 3 of the 12 or so sprouted. They are a nice deep red. Not the best shot, but it gives you an idea of the color (which has started to fade on the back petals).

Pixie, Rose Sonnet is a beauty--do you remember where you got it? Loved the old pics--no smiles--maybe they had bad teeth! The fungi is great, Bill--love all the different colors & shapes--have never been to Baxter--we usually stay on the coast, but it looks lovely. Here is a cosmos that self-seeded in my garden---all my cosmos did this year---but this one turned into a tree!

Evie--the garden is lovely---colors look so nice together, & the dahlia's a beauty. Don't know what the weed is, but it looks graceful!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Robin, I got 'Rose Sonnet' at B&D lilies but they are not selling it this year by the looks of their site.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Celeste i was up there 5th through the 10th. lilght showers off and on for the afternoon of the 7th and light showers all day the 8th. still had fires everyday/night. really not that bad. just made for difficult hiking in mud on already tough trails and soaked boots most days from the foliage next to the trails.
from what i heard the weather here was very bad.

Bev, the double BES are so pretty with the gaillardia

pixie, my asters aren't blooming yet...no fall here LOL. I love 'Pocket Change' ...the little white trim just sets off the beautiful color even more.

Bill, great fungi. In spite of the very wet summer, I haven't had any interesting ones. just as well.

Evie, very pretty. great color on the dahlia.

JoAnn, nice Lucifer. Tried one from seed this year, but it petered out before I could get it in the ground.

I'm very excited. Found this yesterday on my rounds. First one to bloom of several hardy hibiscus I started from seed. Not sure of variety. It looks too pink and blended to be 'Disco Belle', but maybe they vary some.

and DGD spotted my first Monarch cat on the tropical milkweed. at least the first survivor from the birds to get this big. I hope it pupates. DH won't hear of me bringing it in the house LOL

'Pink Peace' - always has gorgeous, huge blossoms. try to ignore the ugly leaf. I've been fighting blackspot all summer because of the awful weather.

Not exactly a bloom, but does anybody know what this is? We've all voted for pumpkin here. It's a volunteer in my rose garden. I had some room so decided to let it grow. The vines are getting long and there are several fruit now.

I don't spend much time on the front yard, and almost forgot about this one; thanks for the reminder, grampapa

Sorry to expose the dwellings in this one, kind of ruins the illusion .....
