Oh Peg lucky you! Waaaaa, we need rain. It isn't too gawdawful hot here today. I am having to take breaks from weedwacking though, cuz it is still hot enough to make a person sweat. The pool surround is done yay!.
She's about to..... #10
Audrey, what happened?
Linda Kay
Doe I do believe it is a tulip poplar, that grows really tall. I use to look out of my second floor bedroom and see the branches. I always knew when spring was because I birds and squirrels would be making such a racket.
Cat, I have some bottom leaves coming off of my brugs also. Just one here on one plant, and then one on another plant. Nothing major tho.
The blooms on the Versi Peach sure are pretty. Looks kind of funny because it doesn't have many leaves. The storm at spring stripped it, then bugs ate them, and then I took the tattored and eaten leaves off so Versi just has these little top notch of leaves.
I sprayed mine and that helped with the hoppers, but I noticed last night there are holes in a few more leaves, so guess I need to spray again! They are BAD this year!
Alright Audrey... might as well fess up and tell the girls you have been in the HOSPITAL!!!! I don't think you told us on this thread!!
Peg.. go easy on that guy... I'll trade DH's for a day.. and when you see my DH keeps the recliner down on the floor.( that's a joke).LOL you'll be kissing that DH of yours!!
Louise.. you better take it easy too.. ya'll have really been having the high temps.... tupelo honey is good... lol.. can't believe Audrey didn't know about it... They really put the bees in the mountains of TN for that very honey...
No pics??? Whats wrong with you girls??? Guess what?? I finally got a camera from Ebay....YAY!!!! Now I'll get to show ya'll some of my plants!! Yippee!! Course I have to get it yet.. I just won it a lil while ago
Linda Kay.. I think Bonnie said it was kinda common to lose the bottom leaves when it's this hot!! I am losing some too.
Going to see Momma.. and of course Walmart... can't go to town without Walmart!!..LOL
See ya'll!!
Audrey, I do hope your doing OK, why were you in the hospital? I hope your feeling better soon.
Linda Kay
LK, I went to the er with chest pains and they kept me over night. I have to give up caffienne, and butter and salt. I don't eat much salt, I use Morton's Lite, and not to much butter, I use unsalted real butter, guess I have to change from that, now! I've been weak, tired and dizzy headed for the last few days, but I feel better today, haven't stayed in bed all day!
I DO know about tupelo honey, just don't know what a tupelo is!! Cat, what do you spray with? I put some white powder I got from WM on mine. It kills most anything. I need to do it again, too!
I just got some Sevin spray from Walmarts. Wasn't sure what to use and it seems to work. Until it rains anyway! :-)
Glad you're feeling better today. Take it easy!!!
Audrey, goodness! Chest pain, ouch! sounds like you're going decaff soon. I'll have to remember that if I get up early chatting with you again.
Beck, recliners are sacred around my house. We started out with five and I was finally able to get rid of one last year. No we don't have the original five, they have been faithfully replaced over the years! Could not convince that man to get a loveseat for anything. So, you may not want my DH... I see no reason to have four recliners for 2 people. But remember I live with the football fanatic.
Being off work was dangerous for me today. I ordered three more brugs (2 doubles) and a couple more hostas. Oh, I was bad, but got such good deals. :) I am really going to have to stop until after the RU and let everything get settled in before winter.
Louise, I promise, promise, I am going to check on winter sowing. Just have not made it there yet.
Got to start cooking, Peg
Should already be decaf! Just bought 1/2 caf till I get used to it! Not so bad! 'Course it's not so bad for me, I didn't start drinkin' coffee till last Christmas! But I've been drinkin' Coke since I was 18! I'll just drink water, not those diet things!
I drink gallons of Luzianne tea, love it! Best iced tea. I made stir fry from the garden tonight. My mother in law made this stuff I hate. It is a macaroni and cheese with tomato soup thingy.
Rain here on and off all day so I cleaned the house. It’s not nearly finished but much better than it was.
Audrey, you be careful, take it slow and easy.
Same buggy burg problems here. Has been raining a lot and I don’t want to spray to often but my leaves are all holey.

Audrey, take good care of yourself and be well! I love coffee too and I should be switching as well!
Hotties, way too much to read and catch up! how about if I just say hello and start from scracht, Have a nice evening everyone, Clemen
Hi Clemen, did your cereus bloom yet?
((Audrey)) hope your feeling better soon! oh, and remember that soda or any drink that has bubbles is FULL of sodium (salt) and not good for ya! :( I too had to give up caffeine t(dr orders) with this heat stroke, or drink a gallon of water to compensate the caffeine..... I'm aiming for the gallon of water! lol! I just am not ready to give up my coffee! lol!
Dr also wants me to eat MORE salt! lol! to retain water...as if I dont retain enough! ugh!
oh well, hopefully I can recover to the point where I can enjoy my vices and still be in the sun sometimes! lol!
Evening Girlies...
Peg... I know all about recliners..LOL We have a Lazyboy set.. THE recliner.. couch w/2 recliners.... loveseat.. WITH 2 recliners!! My DH is retired.. but used to be a coach... and I am not a big fan..LOL He is in the den.. and I am in the living room where the puter is!! I still haven't called that hotel.. I forget... like the camera thing...LOL... I am needing to get my trade list together for Tyler RU.. and A RU will be right behind... ouch.. I gotta get busy!!BTW... How is Keith doing?? still have the cast?? OHHH.. more brugs?? I get first cuttings!!
Yeah Clemie.. hows that cereus bloom coming? I read up on them.. WOW that is a big bloom!!
Louise... ohh we could be best friends..LOL not on the Luzianne even though I do use it.. but the TEA... is yours sweet?? I LUV sweet tea!!
Sooo glad some of you girls are getting rain... I sure would like some.. so PLEASE blow some down here... That 1' we got last week is gone.. course with this sand it doesn't take long!
Donna.. same here on the brugs... seems like overnight the bugs or something went wild!! I was looking at them today, and decided I am just about ready to stick some in the ground!! I know they would do better... Corpus Christi... I have been there and the gulf is much bluer there than on the E side of TX.. Our side looks muddy all the time!! I Luv to collect shells.. and would love to go back that way if I could ever find out when the best shelling times are! I bet ya'll get some pretty ones!!
Gosh Audrey.. I didn't know you were having to give up some stuff... are you taking pills.. or just trying the diet thing first? Will Cokes be off limit to you too?? I could never get used to diet "Cokes" of any kind
Linda Kay... I see you have already posted your Haves on the Tyler RU... Hopefully I will have my trades up tomorrow! Are you getting excited?? OHHH this bunch I am sure remembers how excited I was on my first RU!!..LOL
cat... how much liquid 7 did you use for the brugs.. say per gallon??
TTYL~~~~^_^
Becky I love sweet tea but limit that to going out to dinner, when they have it. Here is nebraska that is rare. I love that about the south! Everyone has sweet tea. At home I drink it with equal, believe me I do NOT need any more calories. I have a hard enough time with my weight. I have not functioning thyroid and it doesn't take much for me to get bigger lol.
Audrey, glad you just need to give up a few bad habits and that will make it all better. Course if I had to give up diet pepsi, oh my goodness...my favorite diet pepsi and mm's....LOL
Ok this is my question. Anyone know anything about daylilies? I had promised this daylily to two people, but I am afraid it has daylily rust what ever that is. It bloomed for me beautifully and is still in bloom. The top of the leaves look great, just down at the base they have a rusty color. The daylily was so thick I couldn't see down at the base. From what I have read it will be destroyed once we have a freeze above zone 7. Ever since I joined DG I have learned all these things plants get now everytime I get ready to do a trade I am terrified about sending out something not in good shape.
First thing this morning I tried out for the Olympics. I tried doing a double back twist loop (joke) and twisted the heck out of my ankle (not a joke). Dang that hurts! Course I have 3 trades going on and I still had stuff to dig.....that didn't work out well at all especially since it hasn't rained at my house for awhile and the ground is cracking. Driving wasn't much fun because I drive a stick and everytime I stepped on the clutch I did a little scream....course that makes other cars get out of your way....LOL
I don't drink tea! I'm NOT gonna drink diet Cokes! I'll drink water! I don't know what else I have to do till I go to my dr. Thurs. Right now I'm drinking lots of water, I never use much salt, less cups of coffee, and that's hafcaf! I also don't use much butter. I used to buy salt free real butter, and I'm used to it. Now what? I can't have butter, and margarine doesn't come salt free, that I can find!
If you like it you can't eat it......that will make you healthy.....LOL
Beautiful blooms
I would rather eat the butter and cut the fat from other things. There are a few really good tasting heart healthy ones though. I should know my Dad tried them all. Joyce, here is a link to Missouri day lily rust info. If you are trading them I would just be honest and send them a pick and let them decide for themselves. You can remove some leaves and send them in for confirmation, but really there are other fungal and or bacterial things going on this year too. http://ppp.missouri.edu/newsletters/meg/archives/v7n9/meg5.htm
I don't think rust is widespread there so I kind of doubt that is what it is honestly. But you can take some leaves to your extension too.
I emailed the two people I was going to send the daylilies to, and told them I wasn't sending until I knew what was going on. I attached the same picture as above. I have posted on the daylily website also waiting on a reply.
I am going to have to stop trading it makes me a wreck...I would feel awful if I sent something bad....
there is that spray on butter...cant remember the name... I think its "I cant believe it snot butter" anyhow, I tried it once...cause we were out of butter and I had to have something on the toast! lol!
I really didnt notice any difference! I was surprised! not sure if it is salt free tho...
I know what you mean Joyce. I really would feel terrible too. I really think it is unavoidable in the average garden when you have so many plants. We are not experts, just eager gardeners lol.
Heard back from someone on the daylily forum. They said it was easy to tell. Rub a tissue on it, if it is orange it is rust, if it is brown it isn't. Then it isn't rust because I had them in paper towels trying to figure out what to do. Think I will wait and see if anyone else post and just make double sure.
Know what you mean Louise, I never even knew there were all this stuff plants could get...LOL
Joyce... soo sorry about your ankle.. but I had to LOL.. I can see you now in your car...ouch..LOL
WOW.. are you sure that is rust?? I was thinking it was on the leaves.. just wonder since you have had sooo much rain.. or was that you?? maybe it is something else. I have a hosta that I havebeen wondering about.. and it has some lil rust spots on it.. not like HVX.. but not right.. and then that article said hostas were a host plant?? Hmmm Daves sure has gotten my mind into things I never dreamed about!!ewwweeeee.. JOYCE.. diet Pepsi AND M&M's??? LOL
Louise.. yeah that is the good thing about the south..lol they do have sweet tea in most restuarants.. Gosh!! I sure hate to hear about your thyroid!! I know that has got to be hard for you.. but you are a looonnnggg way from being "fluffy"!! Me too.. I think I would have to have my butter!!.. I will say ...we like to blacken all kinds of meats and fish.. I use Pam.. that's a wonderful way to cut the fat.. and sooo good too!!
Audrey.. pretty dat... I bet it smells good too!!
I know. In fact it keeps me up at nights sometimes lol. The curse of being informed! So far I have aster yellows on my coneflowers. I worry about hvx and my lovely hostas and NOW day lily rust!!!! LOL
Becky, I do believe ignorance is bliss...LOL DG just gives me a bunch more stuff to try to figure out. Like "never heard of that plant, I must have it", "look at that garden, I could do that", "oh, let's trade, that will be fun", "another coop, oh just one more", "another tool, it will be great, not like the 300 I have in the tool shed", "dang, what is that bump on that plant", "just because I'm zone 5 doesn't mean I can't have every tropical under the sun"!!!!!!LOLLOL
Joyce I sprained my ankle a few years ago so badly I could barely walk on it for more than a year. Slipped on the last patch of ice in town lol. Two days ago I was watering and slipped on the grass and went flying trying not to fall and grabbed onto one of my Hibs to save myself and pulled off a nice branch. LOL the things non gardeners never see!!! It can be dangerous being a mega gardener! I hope you feel better soon. A sprain hurts like heck! Elevate!!!
Ha ha, I agree Joyce. DG has definitely given me alot more to do and to think about! I love my tropicals too and am already planning to over winter some in my new groom shop lol.
Gez Louise (always wanted to say that to a Louise....LOL) I think I need to go to bed, I am getting down right silly.
You must of really done a number on your ankle. Hopefully I am just a couple of days of screaming while I am shifting.
I know what you mean about falling tho, it is a good thing there is no one around to see the things that happen in the garden! I was working on the watergarden one day when I went diving off of the waterfall! One leg was up on the waterfall and the other was down in the pond. Really didn't think I could still do the splits....
Louise.. you lucky dog.. getting to overwinter your tropicals... I like them.. BUT.. no more place to put themm.. look at it this way.. now you can use the cuttings to make a new hibiscus!!.. hopeyou dodn't get hurt though!!
Joyce... yeah.. I used to be the type...ok.. if it makes it fine.. NOW I am a nervous wreak..LOLwondering what I might bring in.. or give out.. and I haven't done the co-ops.. but I have bought from the classifieds here.. and spent quite a lot!! I traded with everyone that would trade with me at first.. LOL UNTIL I started adding it up.. then I realized unless it was a big trade I would be better off going and buying from the store.. at least that way I could get a replacemnet if it died..LOL BUT I have enjoyed everything I traded for, and remember the sweet dgers too!! Yeah.. seeing all ya'll pretty pics made me have to have the same thing..LOL.. wellll ....when I get my new camera.. ya'll better watch out......LOL.... turn about fair play!!..hehehe
can't wait to see the pics!
and Joyce LOL on the splits. If you only knew. I am my plants worst enemy some times with the ridiculous things that I have done. I still say it is because my yard slopes so much, that is my story and I am sticking to it!
Audrey, I do hope your feeling better today.
Becky, I use the blue powder miracle grow fertilizer, I put one tbls. per gallon of watter to feed my brugs, and just give them a good drink of it once a week. I think i will try the beer recipe. I just need to go and get the ingredients.
Everyone have a good day.
Linda Kay
WOW.... where is everyone at?? Hope everyone is feeling ok!!
OK... "who" was the sweety that blew the rain in?? Gotta give hugs and kisses..lol .. it has been raining since at least 5:30..DH said..(I wouldn't know.. I was sleeping!!).. goooooddd sslllooowww one too!! Naturally.. I am wanting to get outside BAD... never satisfied I guess..hehe..I could clean house...hmm I think I'll XXX that one out of my mind!
Linda Kay.. ty for that info..I think I am not feeding that much.. and was wondering why my leaves aren't as huge as some of you girls that have posted the pics... well some are pretty big and some aren't.. wondering if it is the "name" of the brug?? Since mine are mostly NOID's.. I haven't a clue..
Audrey... are you on pills.. or just the restrictions for now??
Boy you ladies are way too busy for me! I'm at work just picking for a second or so. Louise, the cereus, not yet, waiting and waiting! Clemen
Becky, cross posted, try giving them some fertilizer that has tons of phosphuros (did I spell the right), the middle number must be over 50, I use Bloom Plus. That makes them bloom non stop. I do it WEEKLY on Sundays! That's us how I got my cereus to get buds too! Ok, now i realy gotta go before I get fired! LOL, Clemen
