Gita, I'm enjoying the history! Now I want to travel to Latvia.

Betty, I'm thinking to stand up Stain Glass Panels?

Dang you are good Deborah, you must do stained glass to realize the need for such a stand...half the time the 2x2 panes of glass are broken in their storage area and with this stand it makes it easy for inventory and storage..

Now you've surprised me, I would not have guessed that someone would have know...you get a gold star..lol

Rosalyn and her daughter (hard to pronounce her name) our outside in the gardens....I've the child's bike (Noah's) and my bike, told them to take them on the trails..hello, forgot I have no helmets..something to look for next time I'm on a shopping spree...

I love my new living room decor..I cannot believe, but then guess if you are millionaires $$$ are not a problem, that I got a couch that if someone sat on 3 times that would be stretching it..and that the wing chair I purchased matches to a t....will have to take photo for you...

Tomorrow I pray it will be a quiet day for me..I'll try to hit home depot at opening, pick up 2 bags of cement and wood for the door, the project should only take perhaps 1/2 hour, then it will be rest other than washing bed laundry and towels...
I did manage to get about 1 1/2 of sleep this aft.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Photo of tonights guest..she's a lawyer in Toronto, low maintenance, brought wine for me/treats etc.makes it easy, says they'll be off at about 10am tomorrow..no breakfast, taking daughter out...

They've gone for a walk on the trails, sure do hope mosquitos don't carry them away..

Only reason I needed new living room outfit is because the only way the sectional could be placed was right in front of large window I had installed...so much more light..So I'm off for the evening, I've truly enjoyed my weekend so far, just longing for a day of rest...tomorrow hopefully...here's a glimpse of part of my living room...as you can see I love country and some of my painting is visible...

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Betty I am here! worked saturday. Had yesterday off. We went shopping in the morning. Both of us got new shoes for work. So between that groceries and gas I don't want to think of how much we spent. Plus on Sat. he went up north to his brothers and bought new hunting rubber boots and ordered a scope for his pistal.

Made opened faced ham and cheese sanwiches when we got home. He was watching his race so I got in a nap. After that I went out and picked beans peas and checked the cukes. Will be freezing the beans and peas. Then off to work. Tomorrow will be canning what pickles I can.

So that was my exciting weekend.

Hi Everybody!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Good Morning!! It's an "UGH" Monday morning! Spent the day yesterday on the boat and felt totally drugged this morning. Must be all that fresh air! Had fun but made for a long day.

Well, it's official. The puppy litter theme is "Jimmy Buffett"!!! I am SO excited! The kids aren't happy but I am going to go with "Frantone's One Particular Harbour" and call our girl "Sailor". This is one of my favorite songs by JB so that worked out good. Only kink will be if someone else has picked it before I did. No big deal - tons of songs to choose from. DH doesn't mind one way or another what we call her. DD wanted "Margarita" but I just love Sailor - when I saw that on the list last week, it just hit me and has stuck w/ me. Here are a couple of pics from Saturday....

Jeannine, sure hope you get to pick "Sailor" then we'll both have one...they are so adorable...do you have one your hoping will be yours out of all these lovelies???

Vicki sounds as though you've had quite the day as well..

Well, everyone is up, had muffins/coffee/juice and are all organizing their plans for the day...I'm itching to get on with mine as well...lol

Jeannine,

They are just ADORABLE!!!!!! Are they Golden Retrievers?
I love JB too--he just "represents" the easy life in all his songs....Never seen him in person!

AND--just because I left for my trip before June was all over---AND in case you never found out--I was your SP in May/June.

AH!!! I thought it was you but I thought you had me earlier so I figured I was wrong! Well, thank you VERY much for all the wonderful goodies!! My kids just thought it is the neated thing to get a package of goodies in the mail!

Yes, they are Golden Retrievers. Our first dog when DH and I got married was a GR and we have loved the breed ever since. When we lost our girl at the end of 2006, we knew we wanted to stick w/ the breed but find a breeder who could certify the hips, eyes, heart, etc unlike our first who ended up w/ severe hip dysplasia. While certification is no guarentee, it gives us peace of mind to know the lineage.

We don't know which puppy is ours yet. the breeder will temperment test the pups in the next week or two and align their personalities with the lifestyles of the new families. Murphy was picked for us and he has been a perfect match so I am confident we'll get a great pup! Goldens are so laid back any way, it would be ahrd to get a "bad" one!

(Cathy), MO

Goldens have hips, eyes, and heart problems??? I've wanted on forever. Thinking I may just get one next year. I should be in a position to have a dog by then. What do I need to be aware of???

Hi everyone else! And thanks for the recipe Ruby!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Taking a 5 minute breather..one more batch of cement to mix for the door, cement the birdhouse stand then call it a day..can't remember when I've been so tired...

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Cat. It's not necessarily Goldens that have problems like that but most large size dogs can be supceptable to certain health issues along those lines. It's smart to get any dog (puppy) from a breeder who is a member of their breed kennel club - like the Golden Retriever Club of America (GRCA). You can also find reputable breeders thru the AKC. Of course, if you don't want a puppy, the rescue society is a wonderful resource.

Victoria Harbour, ON

They certainly are beautiful dogs...

wow she's a hot one, just put my stuffed peppers into the oven, going to have a bath, and will finally put my feet up..I certainly deserve it...

Cat think any large breed animal have a good chance of hip displacia...know our german sheppard had it..Sailor is starting to show signs but with not throwing the ball as hard or as constant she seems to be improving..think a lot of the damage is done Jeannine is it not in their first year???

Got the door cemented in, ended up walking on a lot of new flower growth but in the end it will be fine..

Carol, will have to go look at the tags of the lily's I just purchased yesterday and mark them in my journal!

Yes, I will put pots..Linda MADE me buy them..lol

Had such a craving for stuffed peppers, made enough for 10 people..will have to freeze them..I just ate and now I'm sick to my tummy..came downstairs to feed the animals then bedtime...

Got a call about 1/2 hr. ago...having B&B guests (2 rooms) next Saturday, will be easier as I'll keep everything dusted all week and I'll not need to spend a few hours tidying...

So, thanks for keeping me company this weekend...are you all as tired as I????

Morning all - ok, here's my funny (NOT!) story for the day.

I get a call last night from my girlfriend/neighbor. She was out weed whacking and thinks she has hit a hornets nest and has been stung on her legs and hand. She dropped the weed whacker and it's still running in the side yard. So I tell her I'll be over in a min to check it out and see if I can get it turned off. So I head over there with my trusty cans of hornet/wasp spray and drive up by the side of the house where the weed whacker is laying. Sure enough, it's still going. I sit there for a few mins and don't see anything so I get out and creep over to it and turn it off - still nothing. So I go to her front door and we chat for a little bit and she shows me her spots and tells me how her right pinkie is killing her. I'm just thinking 'how bad can a little sting hurt'?? So after chatting some more I tell her I'm going to go over and get the whacker so no one steals it. I head over there and I see bees swarming all over the engine part. I tell her hornets didn't sting her, honey bees did and I'm standing there - about 15' away and all of a sudden WHAM! one hits me on my hand! I scream, she screams, we go flying back into the house and all I can think of is the swarm behind us!! Luckily, no more got us but once inside, I look at my hand and danged if that bee didn't get me on MY right pinkie!!! And it HURTS!!!!! I am laughing my butt off at the irony of this and she keeps going 'I'm so sorry'. I can't stop laughing! I said, 'what are friends for but to share bee stings!!' I tell her sorry, I can't kill those honey bees cause they pollinate my flowers and she looks at me like I have three heads! So we hung out in her kitchen with bags of ice on our pinkies for awhile then I go home. Can I just tell you that a bee sting on the pinkie DOES hurt like heck and hurts worse the more time that passes. I still think it's funny! I call her this morning and she has stayed home from work because hse got no sleep. She ended up with THREE stings on her pinkie and 3 on her legs. I have never seen honey bees so agressive before and what's funny is they didn't swarm around the whacker until I turned it off. Maybe they were killer bees........

So worst for yesterday was getting stung but best was the good laugh about it all!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

oooohhh Jeannine...glad you are not allergic to stings...

know it's a coincidence but while on back deck yesterday talking with the ladies, guess my head was in direct view of the side yard and large tree..thought to myself, boy the tree leaves are turning gray quickly this year when I notice a nest, must be a good foot tall, complete circle on top and comes down into a cone shape, bees were in and out..it's right over area I park my car...now I'm concerned, was going to go and purchase a can of spray and spray it but different people have told me it could be really dangerous..I'm not familiar with bees/wasps etc. these tended to have a little white striping...

Guess I'll have to call pest control people..they charge $150.00 just to come and look..yuk..someone also said if I wait till winter and they are doormant I should be able to spray myself...????

I'm falling asleep here this morning..Paul out of the office..absolutely no work, brought in painting but I'm even too hard to attempt doing any of it..so, think I'll move the chair against the wall and use it as a footstool and have a nap..

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty, if it's bees, see if you can find a local beekeeper that might be interested in getting the hive. I would definitely not try to take care it on my own! And if it's honey bees, I wouldn't want them killed since there is such a shortage of them nowadays. If you can take a picture of it. I have only seen "hives" in the movies, never a real one!!

I'm sleepy here too. All my guys are down in TX this week so I just might have to go and work from home!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I did Jeannine take a photo yesterday, will post it..the only reason I know it had some white stripes was that the young girl who visited my B&B had with good quality camera taken pictures...on here's we could see the creatures, quite a size...will post tonight..

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

GG,

One thing i have heard that you can do when you get stung is to asap rub some meat-tenderizer (MSG) on the sting and rub it in a bit.

This is "supposed" to work b/c meat tenderizer breaks down the proteins in the meat (that's how the meat gets tender...) and the "venom" in a sting is also a protein and the MSG should break it down.

Worth a try? Gita

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Betty,

Be careful! GG's suggestions are right on.
I am sure you have heard that bees and wasps can be subdued by smoke before you move the nests. Still--don't you go messing with it!
