Nice foliage on that JM. I like the dahlia too.
Garden Photos - Part 27
for some strange reason, whenever I look at that dahlia it reminds me of a rasperry sundae. Not sure why. But, It does. Hmmm..... I'm thinking now that I need to go into town and get stuff for a rasberry sundae and some peppermint schnapps to go with it. I stayed home sick today and that sounds like a perfect remedy!!!

Another whole slew of great pics you guys. Sounds like you may have found a cure RC. As to the milk solution, yes it has worked for me. Here is an article I found that explains how it does it. A combination of the sun and the milk so I guess if you do it early in the am and it is cloudy all day maybe not such a good out come. Here is the link: http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/3125/title/A_Dairy_Solution_to_Mildew_Woes
Thanks for the link. That's interesting. I briefly skimmed it. I'll read it thoroughly tonight when my head is a little clearer... you know, after the schnapps. lol. no, that will be bed time after that. But, I would imagine that the reason why it hasn't worked for some would be if their plants are in the shade, which lends towards mildew anyhow. The ones of mine that get mildew at least get morning sun, so it should work.
Thanks, Pat and hope you feel better, Sherry. Beautiful eucomis!
ooooo, I can't wait till my little 6" Annabelle looks like yours, Victor.
JoAnne, up above you mentioned that I rave about something. Were you talking about lily Conca d'Or? I'm just curious because I'm not sure if that was the consensus on the ID of the lilly that I put the picture up of? The flower undoubtedly looks like Conca d'Or. I'm still thrown by the height of the silly thing. I measured it the other day and it's almost 7'2" tall now. Do they get that tall? The owner (of the place I live in) threw a sort of bbq/block party the other evening and their were about 9 or 10 gardeners there who all wanted to know what it was. And boy, with all of the three or four possible names that I threw out, someone really wanted to debate it. The only that I could get folks to agree on was that the leaf type was right to be an orienpet, even though some thought that I may have made that up.
They said:
wrong leaves for a trumpet...... but the height was right
right leaves to be an oriental..... but the height was wrong.
flower did look just like conca d'Or..... but that it was way too tall (but then again, I have day lilly's that are
6.5' tall and monarda that is 7' tall...... maybe there's something in the soil??)
some knew about the cross of oriental and trumpet and the others thought that we were out of our minds.
.....can you believe people were actually arguing over this :-p ??
the list of rights and wrongs of other possible varieties just went on and on.
Whatever it is, I will always and definitely RAVE about it!!!! And eveyone that was there wants an offspring of it, unless I can come up with a name to give them.

Thanks for the well wishes Victor!
I love the peachy pink phlox Jen, what kind is it?
I have no idea. It came in a wildflower seed mix, sorry.
That's Ok, I thought that might be the case. Whatever it is... It's pretty!
So, I got a bur after seeing pictures of everyones TIki Torch echinaceas and decided to call All (there's a lot) the local nurseries to see if anybody had any echinaceas that were any color other than purple or white. They are all out!!! out of 17 different nurseries, 8 said that they had had them but were out including 4 of them that had carried tiki torch. These also included all of the nurseries that I called in early spring and asked if they were going to have any... and they all said "no." Sheesh. I guess that's what I get for being both early and Late!!! But, one of them said that they have a shipment arriving tomorrow and Tiki torch will likely be in there!! wahoo!! I'm thinking of calling in again.... No, wouldn't do that. But, it's tempting. I will be there first thing on my next day off though. So, ngam if you think you want another, let me know!!!
and another nursery (one that I love because they carry lots of different things in small sizes) and they are having a sale starting saturday morning.... everything is 50% off!!!! Their regular prices on 4" containers are 3.95 and gal is 6.95 to 8.95 (including hellebores!!!) Last time I was there I bought a chamaecyparis L. "treasure" for 4.95 and a Double hellebore (slate color) for 19.95. I hope that they don't have anything expensive left or else I'm going to have a hard time not spending my paycheck!!
ngam, thanks for the interesting article. I have some older varieties of Phlox which sometimes become affected. I don't really feel like replacing them with the newer mildew free varieties. This year I thinned them out in the spring to provide more air circulation and cut back on the overhead watering. They look much better this year but it's nice to have a non-chemical remedy in your arsenal.
Redchic, I like that Dahlia. Do you know its name?
LOL RC, deep breath, it won't do any good but you can say you tried. I am waiting to see if the one from Dutch Gardens is Tiki or not. I will check the fall sales but will probably wait until spring since I am moving things around. Hope you find one for you, or two or oh dear, so many lovely plants, so little time. Have fun browsing and let us know what poor little orphans you adopt. :)
Pat I just got Tikki Torch this year but it's so small it won't bloom this year so it was nice to one. I have Nicky too and LOVE IT!
Victor, i don't know how I missed it but I just saw Oso Easy Peachy Cream and it's beautiful!
Congrats on the phlox, Jen. We're at 300, so I'll start another thread. Be right back...
Okay - new one:
