Wicked t-storm just went by. EAS kicked in and blocked my cable station. TORNADO WARNING! Rained like crazy but not that bad in the wind and lightening dept., very thankful of that, no hail that I could see. The emergency radio broadcast said rain falling at 8'-10" an hour. The storms are moving pretty fast and the tornado area is now east of here. Still occasional distant rumble. Looks like we got about three-fourths of an inch in the time it was over head. We don't get many tornado warnings around here so it freaks you out a little.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 26
Wow - some sever weather all over. Not much rain since early AM. Starting to get some loud thunder now.
Water Spouts on Lake Erie this afternoon
Temp 80.9°, Wind SE 9.3, Rh 57%, Baro 29.73↓. ☺
1.5" rain in 1 hr here, looks like another line of storms on the way.
Oh you mean we could get more rain? I like that part at least. There is a severe thunderstorm warning until 10PM here. They said a waterspout was spotted in Barrington, RI and that and the radar triggered the tornado warning. How do people in the midwest deal with so many nasty tornados? I think I would end up in a little rubber room, below ground of course. Sun is out now and the temp has dropped about ten degrees to 64. Maybe a little less humidity too. Nice I'll take it.
Raining again. Lots of rumbling too. Radar shows lots of activity heading this way. Still just a tad above 3/4". Hopefully we'll get a good deal more now.
When you see those clouds rolling in overhead over the plains and you're in the middle of them it's enough to scare the 'bejesus' out of you!! lol!
Raining softly here now, was mostly cloudy all day. I got most of the lawn mowed before the rain came.
Pouring right now. Just had a thunder clap right overhead.
Another Tstorm now 3rd one today. Currently 79 degrees.
3/4 inches of rain last night with lots of thunder/lightning and hail. Another 1/4 inch this afternoon.
Thunder w-a-y in the distance - but no rain.
DD is in an airport in Washington DC.....should of left at 6:15 and arrive here in Portland, Maine at 7:56. She called and said she won't be arriving until 9 now. Several flights coming from Newark NJ., and both New York jetports JFK, and LGA have all been cancelled, 7 in all.
Good luck with DD, Celeste. Stopped raining a while ago. Just under 1 1/2 inches now. Not bad.
My area has a flood watch in effect until sometime Friday morning. The weather forecast says to expect between 2 and 4 inches of rain as this front will stall tonight and the rain will continue to dump on us. We went s2 weeks with virtually nothing and now there will be too much. Any time we get over 3", we have to watch the water table which rises enough to flood the basement.
Currently 70 degrees with fingers crossed.
amazing we go from no rain in three weeks... to floods... well i wanted the rain
I'm not complaining.
I have a flood watch here also, except it has not rained. It has not rained in a LOOOOONGGG time. Maybe tonite or tomorrow. If not, I will lose some plants. Gardening nightmares I suppose.
just hope the new sub-pump works that we installed last year... all this rain at once is bad when you are surrounded by hills
I am such a nut checking the crawl space every hour... don't want to EVER pump water out like we have done in the past
two winters ago we both took off work for three days when we got that 8 inches of rain.... and had swing shifts.. i pumped during the day... he did the nights... to the point where i had a total break down... every thing in my body was killing me from crouching in that 4 foot crawl space for 3 days... take the water out for an hour with the shop vac... rest for a half hour... pump the water for an hour... rest for half an hour.... over and over....the 4 foot is the high part... the beams are about 3 foot ... i was on the back side and had to climb under the two beams to get out and just freaked out crying that I couldn't bend down anymore.... after that he agreed to do the pump...
it took over a week for my pinched sciatic nerve to calm down where i could get a full nights sleep... and ended up with the flu (sure the stress didn't help that)
as long as we kept up with the water we had no property damage... it is only a concrete crawl space... let it go too long and we were looking at huge problems with the hot water heater, furnace, and all the other STUFF stored down there on the finished side
:)
now I am trying to convince him to install the watchdog pump from home depot... at least it has alarms and battery back up... so we won't need the generator if the power goes out
Good luck, Allison. The pump sounds like a good move.
DD is still stuck in DC.....not cancelled YET!
Your story sound much like mine, Allison. We finally got a Shop Vac with a built in sump pump and also had a sump pump installed in the basement. We have lost a lot of belongings stored down there and had a sump pump burn out, too. Not fun. Good luck, and I hope you're not stuck in a crawl space.
ngam - Did you get your mom to the DR. without getting wet? Hope so.
The TV said in Philly there was hail and some circular motion and some debris flying. Guess we'll find out if it was possibly a tornado on the news tomorrow. Night everyone.
Big T-Storm just passed thru at about 10:30. Wind & hard rain.
By 10:40 it was over.
Still hear thunder in the distance.
I think another storm will be moving thru shortly.
Temp 78.9°, Wind S 11.8, Rh 59%, Baro 29.73. ☺
Cloudy with lots of intra-cloud lightning overhead. Clouds coming in fast from the South Shore.
Absolutely not one drop of rain yet!!
Gosh this week has been great! We were expecting rain all freaking week long with 60% chance every day....not one day this week have we had it! I am not complaining cause the kids and I have been busy enjoy the outdoors!
Picked DD up and just got home......lots of water on the roads!!! Still raining with a fog rolling in now. Goibg to bed now, good night all!
still raining and so far so good.... whew
Three inches of rain yesterday and predicted another three inches today . . . sigh . . .
And to think - some people actually spend money to install sprinkler systems here!
torrents of rain yesterday afternoon around four o'clock.
I was driving on the interstate with cars and trucks in near 0 visibilite.
Scarry at 65 mph but nowhere to go ,we were packed in like sardines, with tons of road spray.
Another wet day predicted here.
70* and acattered Thndrswers
Looks like a almost a week of scattered thunderstorms and humidity. This isn't good for tomatoes. Noticed yesterday that Early Blight, which showed itself the first of the month, is back.
Part of the interstate was closed yesterday from flooding.
I was comming from Cayuga lake the black sky and sheets of rain started at Manchester. Guess I missed the flooding ,although Bushnells Basin was pretty deep.
DD said the rain flowed off of Ridgway Ave into their parking lot and made a deep whirlpool around the drain. It took fifteen mins befoe people could get to cars parked in that area.
Couple showers yesterday. Woke to huge thunder claps with nice long rumbles. Suppose to rain all day. It's a bit much all at once, but we'll take it!
So glad DD made it home safe, Celeste. That was a long night for you! BTW -Saturday for you looks like partly cloudy 82° :-)
More of the same off / on rain today, tomorrow's to be sunny

Current temp 70
hum. 94
overcast now
We measured 3 3/4 in rain yesterday.
Well, I won't have to water for a bit.
Celeste- Thanks for the update about DD. I was wondering if she was still sitting in the airport
Finally!!! Rain!!! Had a storm at my house yesterday that left 4" of rain! They were very isolated as I had nothing at work, which is only 15/20 minutes away. This morning seems to be a rainy day, which is good. It rains, stops, plants soak it up and then it rains again. Love it!
Too wet ...
Too cool ....
Too humid ....
A day or two like this is OK. But a whole week? I'm very unhappy! We had a new daylily bloom during yesterday's downpours. But, I won't be getting a photo until I can dash between raindrops.
