Been drippy here for a week too.
I remember a summer when we had very little sun, took the flowers a year to recover.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 26
T-storms all evening through 11PM. Some very loud and lots of rain. Scared the cats a little. Very humid now and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy to total overcast. Very heavy rains predicted. Finally we have had enough rain to wet more than the top inch of soil. Temp is 75 degrees.
I'd hate to guess how far into the ground all this rain has soaked. I know we are under a Flood Warning, because all this water has nowhere to go ... except in my basement.
We had 4 inches overnight - that's a bit much.
Good morning, all. Lots of rain and thunder overnight. We stand at about 2 2/3 inches so far. 70 and overcast. Very humid, of course.
I'm not complaining!
Temp 70.3°, Wind SW 7.8, Rh 63%, Baro 29.76 steady. ☺
2.41" rain so far and still coming! Yipee! Free water! (until the water authority attaches a rain meter to the house & starts charging for it! lol)
That's probably not as far-fetched as you may think.
jeepers! I hope not. We'd not be able to afford it.
I know! ... ☺
There will come a day when we'll be paying for water what we're now paying for gas.
That's not even remotely amusing. But, I suppose you are right. It can only come to that.
We will be drinking Hudson River water in a couple of years. I'm sure our water bill will jump quite a bit to pay for the filter/desalination plant.
Celeste:
I'll be right there! (in spirit, anyway)
Get in the basement, Celeste!
And we will be buying it from the Japanese.
Thank you Candyce! I have a daylight basement Victor...i'll still be able to hear/see it! Actually only half is a DL basement....I could go hide behind the oil tank!! LOL
Celeste's basement??
YucK!! Hudson River water?? Not me, I'm drinking aquifer water! lol! ☺
Closet, then?
I was told that as a little girl too.."don't be afraid" just as lightning struck the fan in front of me as it burst into flames!!!
Sounds scary - especially for a kid!
What a mess! I spent almost an hour this morning picking up plants from across the yard and repotting them - even the ones in 15 gallon pots had toppled over. The umbrella over the dog run is history, the garden looks like a tornado hit - one pepper plant was pulled completely out of a conatiners, and all of the sunflowers are down. Also, one 6" diameter tree down - 4" from the brand new MX-5! Whew! VERY close call! And I'm off to E. Hampton straight from work - hope everything calms down while I'm gone!
"It struck the fan and not you." So true Sherry, and I felt very lucky but that was just too close for comfort!!!
Areas up here are already using the water from the Hudson. A couple of years ago, IBM and East Fishkill got together to put in a pipeline from Poughkeepsie down to the plant here - most of it dedicated to the electronics industry. But there was an agreement for the pipe to be large enough for towns along the pipeline to be able to tap into it. Let's guess who they will have to pay for using the water?
72 degrees and cloudy. We got a hefty amount of rain from the t'storms last night, but the basement is dry. I think we'll be OK as long as we don't get a prolonged downpour.
T-storms last night & into the early morning. Stopped me from getting to sleep.
raining here again at work in cambridge - sun was just out and i was ready to try and get a run in - should be interesting camping this weekend - at least the little river we will be on will be high. wife just emailed me, she of little faith wants me to pack tarps to cover the tent, fire pit and picnic table - go figure.
I was not aware of that, Lynn. How is the quality?
Just saw the news..parts of New Hampshire is under a Tornado watch right now! Stay safe everyone!!
Wow, did we get some thunder storms. It poured here around 10/10:30 and then rained 3 times more overnight. My lawn is singing. Foggy this morning, overcast right now and 77 degrees
Ossipee is where we will be camping!!
It is sprinkling here again with the sun playing peek-a-boo. Sorry to hear there is violent weather in New England. We seem to be going between terrible extremes this year.
Victor, Poughkeepsie has been using Hudson River water for many years. Actually, the quality is quite good and they chlorinate the daylights out of it! They only problem is when the salt line gets up there, then the warnings go out. Recent studies are showing low PCBs.
Temperature is hanging in the low 70s here.
Help! I'm floating away! No rain for so long, and now we'll be up to 4-5" by this evening. I am exhausted b/c the storms kept hitting intermittently all night, waking me up w/ downpours and thunder. Yikes!
There was a tornado warning just to our North, and there was a funnel cloud photographed to the South yesterday.
Auntie Em!!!
Oh, so yours is not desalinated because the salt is usually south of you. PCB's don't sound too good. For us the additional challenge will be to remove the radioactive stuff from Indian Pt.
Mamsita, why is it "Dutchess" county? It's spelled wrong. I got familiar w/ Poughkeepsie when my son went to Vassar. Gorgeous campus! I also toured up and down the valley- beautiful!
