the sign was only like a foot big.... we drove passed it at first too... I just happen to catch the sign as we passed it... turned around by the school... my gps said it was way passed where it really was... so sorry you couldn't find it
it was beautiful
I need id's on a few of these... if any of you know
official date of NJ gathering - September 13th
What a wonderful day! It's always great meeting new friends from Dave's Garden. Thom, we also had a difficult time finding the coleus farm. It had a tiny sign next to a small driveway. We pass it up the first time. It was so charming inside. I would love to go back again - maybe next year.
I definitely need a larger yard and bigger house with lots of windows! Hope to see everyone again.
reading my mind a bit Michele
:)
I had a wonderful time! Cy is a man after my own heart - plants need to produce something to be in my yard! I just wish I had more room to "store" plants during the winter so I could have some citrus and allspice and and and . . . It was sooo good to have people to talk gardening with - I miss that in my "ordinary" life.
Nice to see you guys had a great time! Thanks for posting the photos, Allison. Looks like a nice place. I had a great time at my family reunion. Too humid though.
Another one here for "a great time"..I loved it, including the DG people and the place. Anyone that was there knows this, but my other half went too....he really does exist..lol Thank you Allison for arranging this. I had a wonderful time. What's up for next month??
I would love some citrus and I would love some of those huge banana plants
Louise we will have to do something local... I don't want to drive to NH
you guys will just have to come over for my halloween party
and yes I will attest that your honey does exist.... sorry he wasn't around for the photos though... poor Jack was sleepy
His fault, not mine...With nose held up high in the air, he golfed the day before til his sides hurt..lol
LOL... I made him laugh when I said you were working him too hard... of course he agreed
Allison--
The first plant looks like a Nicotinia (if I'm even spelling that right)
The second plant is the Root Beer Plant, I don't know the Genus sp. That is the one they were able to sell me the root cutting of :-)
The third, the dahlia, is one of the dahlias in the Bishop series, not sure which one it is. Most of the dahlias in the Bishop series have smaller flowers, 3-4", and have that beautiful dark foliage!
Hope that helped ya out!

Allison
Allison-
We drove right past it...Atlock Farms that is. :-/
We were following the directions to 545 Canal Rd...and we drove right by it...crap.
I even said to Paul, "OMG I've seen that nursery listed on Daves somewhere..."
I feel like a boob now...
Atleast I will know for next time what to look out for...lol.
ooohhh you were looking for a coleus farm sign?
No...we were just following the directions to 545 Canal Rd. I didn't have the name of the coleus farm, nor did I have a phone number...lol.
I was getting so upset that we were lost too...now it just seems funny. Drove right past it...oye.
oh so sorry
So glad I was able to spend time with you yesterday morning. Absolutely loved it. Now, I know why it is one of my niece's favorite places. She has taken some of their classes. Really enjoyed meeting you. It is so nice to be able to put faces with names. (not that I will remember -lol) I appreciated all of Cy's accumulated knowledge. So many things stand out, but those lemon verbena standards were knock-outs. How old did he say they were?
Mom's 89th birthday party went well. It was a bit hot and humid, but thankfully they had the AC on. It is harder for mom to breath in the humidity. There was close to 50 people there. Mostly family, but a few friends. LOTS of kids. She loves to see how her family has grown. She is up to 23 great-grands and 2 great-great grands. I suggested birdseed for the new, big feeder Jeff made that is right outside her window, or dark chocolate as gifts. My family (4 sons and fams) are getting a non-freezing birdbath that will sit on the deck close to her window. She especially likes cardinals and enjoys hearing their chirping. Needless to say, she was exhausted when we got home about 9:30 last night. First time in a long time she didn't wake up in the middle of the night. Hopefully, now that she sees that she CAN do it we will be able to do more things. I am just amazed at how she has rallied from the "death watch" we were on in April. A friend asked recently if we could go with her and her grandmother to Longwood Gardens. My response was it depended on how this weekend went and judging by the result I think we will be making a trip to Longwood soon. It is very wheelchair friendly and mom really loves it there. One year, I took her once every season. It is only about 40 min. from me so not too far. I used to take my biology class there every year when we would do botany. Boy, I would LOVE to take some of their hort. classes. How awesome would that be?!
Again, Allison, thanks for suggesting this. Oh, that other garden looked great from the pics. Thanks for sharing.
I agree, another visit to Wellsweep is on my agenda in the future.
Jan
wow that was a long day for her... it is really awesome she had a great day... and i am sure she would love going to longwood again.... it was great meeting you too... am i wrong thinking he said the LV were 25 years old??
I don't think so, I thought I heard 35, but figured I misheard.
Needless to say she took a 3 hr. nap this afternoon. I should have joined her.
I took a nap today too..... the heat is killing me
Jan, was that you that had a niece living in Califon. We accidently took a ride around Califon and around and around. What a quaint and charming town.
Oh I am so glad you guys posted pics!!!!! I will go there one day... how far is from your house Allison??? my goodness those coleus are gorgeous... oh so pretty... just gave me some ideas...lol.... so pretty!!!!!!
Califon is beautiful!
What great shots of your day Saturday! I'm so sorry to have missed it. It was nice to see you all in the photos.
Harper
Beautiful photos! That coleus is to die for!! I was blown away by the color variations of it and mass!!!!
I really like many of them individually. But for my taste, it's too busy looking.
Yes, Louise, that was me. The road by the river is nice. She doesn't live in the town but outside in the house her DH's grandmother lived. They have several acres with a pond. Her youngest daughter has Downs Syndrome and loves to garden, so in the back of her mind she would love to have a smaller version of Wellsweep for Emma to garden as a possible source of income for her as she gets older. Emma went to first grade this year. She is absolutely amazing! She just loves life and everybody.
Allison, that coleus bed does look like a painter's palette.
It's really beautiful... I have an area that gets tons of shade and even if I have roses planted there, there is nothing to fill it out.. I am planting coleus there... it's really going to look good... I hope!
I am bringing some cuttings inside this year... let's see how they do... really interesting idea...
Lovely photos! Glad everyone had such a great time!
Can anyone tell me what the plant is in shot #38? [HYPERLINK@picasaweb.google.com]
I just looked...hmm. The flower resembles some type of ginger, or possibly a member of the bromeliad family, but in all honesty I haven't a clue. The ginger and bromeliad are guesses at best...lol.
I was wondering how the day went for you. Was your son surprised? Would you do it again?
We missed you.
Where was that, Jen? My six year old wants to know if Percy was there also.
Strasburg, PA http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/
I probably won't do that again, one time is enough for me. I would go back but not for the Thomas event. I really don't like crowds, it probably wouldn't have been that bad if it was a little( a lot) less humid. There were just cranky kids everywhere, it wasn't as crowded as I thought but it was enough, we got there at a good time(around 10AM) it was getting bad as we were leaving(3PM).
Percy wasn't there it was just Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt(he was somewhere but we never saw him).
Not for me either. Thanks.
sorry Sequee I don't know what this is... I didn't look

Victor... I love busy!!!
Jen I would love to see all the faces when the train pulled up... how neat
Every time he pulled into the station you heard all the kids gasp and yell "Thomas!"
