official date of NJ gathering - September 13th

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I'm glad someone had luck with them! lol

I had mine in a box, in the basement with some sawdust.

Have I mentioned that when you go down my back yard, there is a street, an acre lot this is empty, and then the river? Have I also mentioned that on the other side of the river bank there is a large garbage dump (more trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment type of stuff)? Did I ever mention that the EPA got involved and mandated that the owner of this dump must move all of the garbage, and gave him an 18 month time frame to move it all? Did I mention that he moved stuff all the way up until Oct/Nov of last year, and continues to do so? And, the kicker is, did I mention my basement is a dirt basement?

Can anyone see where this is going?

Essentially, anything that I overwintered in boxes, specific to my basement area, were eaten...everything...and if they weren't eaten, they were gnawed upon. I trapped, poisoned, killed, snap trapped, contained and hav a heart trapped several members of the rodent family. 2 large river rats, and a slew of field mice, about a dozen or so.

For those out there that think the ultrasonic plug in doo dads don't work, my basement is proof that they do! I plugged 3 of them in, all strategically placed, and have not seen hide nor hair of any rodents...

On a lighter note, I may have more tubers available for this RU in NJ. Can't wait. I still have tons of stuff to share. As I go digging, it's out with the old and in with the new...lol.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Is that the big "landfill" that is by the NEextension of the PA Turnpike up towards Clarks Summit? If it is, that would be a huge job to move all that stuff.
I tried SP tubers too, but I had them in my unheated garage. No success. I'm going to try down in my crawlspace this year. My basement is heated so that is out.
Just spoke with my niece and she is excited.

Thom, I am so glad to hear they work I just ordered 2 this week as we've been getting mice in our walls.
An assistant that worked for me some years ago told me she had one and forgot about it and they were wondering why her son's hamsters kept dying.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

woo hoo... that's means we are up to 11... almost there

I can have niece, and wife names.... going to make up name tags prior

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

My niece is Tara. Do you want last name too?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no that's great.. thank you... and my bad I didn't have Memory on the list... THAT MAKES 12... woo hoo!!!!!

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Jan--lol. No, this one is owned by a local business man who is often in our local newspapers, due to his, um, notoriety and alleged affiliation with "family." Enough on that though, I don't want to end up as DL or hosta food just yet.

Ok...not sure if I skipped this or not, but is the itinerary basically meeting at the herb garden and then going to lunch, or....?

More than likely, it is my weekend off, I will be going down and trying to figure something else out to do. I think the Coleus farm is going to be to much plant stuff for Paul. lol.

Maybe we can take a detour somewhere and head off to New Hope...not sure how far away from Point A to Point B that will be though?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I wasn't thinking about lunch.... but we can do that.... I will have to look what is local up there

I would love to go to the coleus farm though... it's going to be too much for Randy... but he will get over it

:)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Oh, Wink-wink THAT "family. nuff said. I went to elementary school with a Genovese, who from my understanding is related somewhere in the tree. My maid-0f-honor went to a wedding that had two head tables. One for the bride and groom and one for a relative - John Gotti. She said that it was kinda surreal. She felt very on edge the whole evening.
Imagine having to share your special day.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow... that would make me a nervous wreck

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Anyone want to ride with me leaving from Bridgeport, CT or I can meet you on the way.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I can't wait!!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

today I am going to FINALLY separate my penstemon seedlings I winter sowed ... any one want some?

and I have a few more foxgloves ... but maybe only 2 or 3

listed in my journal

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

One, I would like to also go to the Coleus farm, just not sure how much of a drive it is? lol.

And I never turn down food...unless it's broccoli, cauliflower, or brussell sprouts...lol.

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Have fun tomorrow everyone!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I don't know where the coleus farm is, but my niece suggested Hackettstown for a bigger selection of places to eat.

Charlie Brown's
very nice, I've been there. They have a salad bar (sorry Thom) but also a lot of other things.
109 Grand Ave. Hackettstown, NJ 07840

according to mapquest only 6.65 miles from Wellsweep
their address is 205 Mt. Bethel Rd. Port Murray 07865

Also there is Panera Bread. I've never been , but my niece likes it as well.
2045 Rt 57 #3 Hackettstown, NJ 07840

according to mapquest only 6.45 miles from Wellsweep

If the coleus farm is toward Washington, NJ then probably the best place is the diner by the light right on Rt. 57/ Rt 31

Check them out.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Nance. I am giddy with excitement. Can you tell I haven't been out for awhile? lol

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Well enjoy it!! What a great group of people to spend your time with, too.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I still can't believe I'm going to miss it!! sniff :(

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

But, you will get to see THOMAS and Sir Top'em Hat. Enjoy.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

we will miss you Nan & Jen... that's for sure

I have been to that charlie browns... it was good... but either one is fine with me.... panera might be quicker

Have a great time y'all!!!
I love Charlie Brown's salad bar.

Panera has a really good green iced tea.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I never tried the green... but the black iced tea is good too... I usually mix the unsweetened and sweetened together

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I really like Panera.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Michele does too.... figured if anyone wants to go to the coleus farm... I know I do!!!!.. that will be a faster lunch that's for sure

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I will eat just about anywhere...lol...so Panera (good food, great coffee, and tasty pastries!) or Charlie Brown's (we have one really close to us, they have great chicken and steak!) will work. I'm going to attempt to convince Paul to go to the Coleus farm...lol. We will have to follow someone there! I didn't realize how close the herb farm is. We mapquested, google mapped, and yahoo mapped the directions, it should take a little over an hour for us to get there! We should, unless we get lost, be arriving a little before 10.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it is kind of between you and I .... the mapquest directions are good ones... the streets around there are small... but nothing real tricky

you can follow us if you want.. can't miss my truck that's for sure

;)

Franklin, NJ

I'm sorry Onewish,I can't make it.
I work at a plumbing supply and we are open until 12 on Saturdays. There are four of us and we have a three man crew on Sat. allowing one person off.I thought I would be able to take off considering I would be asking over a month in advance but when I got to work the next day I walked in to see the boss writing on the calendar that he would be off today.
We also have a part timer and I asked him to cover for me but he also had plans.I put off writing this hoping one of them would be canceling their plans but it didn't happen.I really wish I could make it.
Dave

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

so sorry Dave.... that really stinks

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

One--did you actually get some sleep? lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I slept till 6.... that's late for me

:)

:(

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I had such a great time today.... thank you all for coming

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Paul and I got home about 40 minutes ago, give or take.

Allison-We typed in the address on our Garmen, lol, and drove up and down Canal Rd looking for 545, it wasn't there...lol...every time we would "arriving at destination" we had water on one side, and a hill of green on the other. I am super UBER impatient when lost, I had Paul pull into someone's drive way and I asked them for directional help, but they looked at me like I had 10 heads. So, without me getting any more frustrated, we headed home :-/

I had a great time at Well Sweep...I definitely feel a return visit is in order...this time without Paul...lol. If he was not there I probably would have picked up a few more tree peonies...lol.

It was nice meeting you all, some for the first time, and others for a second :-)

I will download pics later on, I need to take a nap now.
