Ruby's post...

You are probably right Bev. I hope that you aren't left with too much devastation.

Betty, the glads can be planted either spring or fall. If I were you and living in your climate, I would just plant them next spring, pretty early and at least you will get one good showing next year versus maybe planting in the fall and they die before ever blooming. I leave mine in the ground, but you would most likely need to take them up for the winter. They are not too expensive, so if you are like me and love them, just one years show would be okay with me.

I got a bag of 25 last year as a bonus for something else that I ordered and I never put them in the ground. I am hoping that they are still okay in a couple of months when I will be planting them. I also bought 2 bags at the Dollar Store last week with 15 bulbs for $3.50.

I am getting ready to make a pot of corned beef and cabbage. We have been eating all of our meats off the grill this summer and I am ready for something that is cooked on a stove. ha-ha I also need to make a toss salad before my fixings go bad.

I spent time outside a bit earlier cleaning up after dogs and dead heading my butterfly bush. Another outside project I need to do before John leaves later this afternoon to visit some of our friends. I am giving a lot of my houseplants to the lady who lost all of hers a couple of years when one of her friends borrowed her houseplants to decorate a church for a wedding. They left the plants there for a couple of weeks and someone turned the heat back and the plants froze. I am glad to get rid of these which are mainly duplicates of ones that I am keeping. I sat the ones going to her aside a few days ago. I have a lot of plant starts in vases with just water. I don't want to give my vases away, so I need to package the starts someway in order for them to ride to their new home. I will be left with several plus, kind of dingy dirty vases to wash. Oh well, I can start filling them back up with cutting from my plants.

I hope that everyone is having a good day. Take care friends.

Ruby

Good morning everyone. Sorry about your tests being postponed Betty. I know it can get frustrating when things like that get put off. More time to dread them! :-)

Hope everyone is having a good morning. I'm tired! Going on about 4 hrs sleep. The doorbell rang last night about 2:30 but no one there. Scary when something like that happens in the middle of the night. You always imagine the worst.

It did it 3 times before we finally just unhooked it. Couldn't see anyone either out front or out back. I don't know if the doorbell went bad (wireless), or if some teenager was bored and thought it would be funny. At any rate, I never really got back to sleep. Thank goodness tomorrow is my off day!

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
Getting things nice for my brother who is coming for tomorrow.
We had rain this morning but it is sunny and getting hot now..will be able to hang the sheets on the line.
Was greeted by three beautiful daylilies open this morning.
Haven't downloaded them yet.

Bev..I sure hope those Japanese beetles leave your hostas alone. I have not had them here..but last year they were all over my cousins roses which is about a two hour drive west of here.
I bought the Queen Josephine Hosta yesterday.

Betty..yes..glads don't overwinter in the ground here. So if you decide to get some ..plant in the spring...lift in the fall and let them dry, and store them.

Buzzer just went off on the washer..time to put next load in..
Must run....enjoy your day everyone.

Hi all...

Not much to write about myself, just back from the doctor...and need to increase insulin intake.
Betty, I hate it when they postpone my appts.
Is it Laura's birthday today? Happy Birthday Laura, hope you're feeling much better.
Blessings galore!

Don't worry Bev, Japanese Beetles haven't touched my hostas, just the remaining roses, my favorite hibiscus and a couple brugmansias. Sigh...

Victoria Harbour, ON

You both will have to take a photo for me so I can see if it's something we have, NOT that I want them..lol...

Just got home, long day..stopped in Barrie and brought SIL (also cousin) Linda roses, had a nice visit, then on the way home decided to take back roads as the highway becomes boring after awhile and when I left the city it took me 1 hr. of bumper to bumper traffic before it started to move...

So I drove slowly, meditating as Roger would say...thought of all the 'what if's' had he lived, decided to stop about 10 times and pick roadside flowers for myself..laughed, got Suzanne roses for her 25th today, Linda's, Roger's for the grave and me, I stop along the roadside for my bouquet...but it was pleasant (if I don't get poisin ivy)

Animals were glad to see me..my grass was not cut today, 1st time in about 5 or 6 weeks..really was to hot for Kathy to be doing it..if she doesn't come tomorrow then I'll get it done tomorrow night...am hoping that the hair salon can fit me in tomorrow aft. for perm..can't take the straight hair anymore...a drag to curl it and it go straight 5 min. later due to humidity...

So played with filling a couple vases for downstairs in the rec. room..only time I'm in it is passing through for craft room...but, the wild flowers will look pretty...

Cats know what to do...here's Missy taking time to smell the 'roses'...

Dawn, is that a good thing that your son's girlfriend is pregnant??? Are you ok with it? Imagine, no grandchildren then 2 close together...that will get you used to being called 'grandma'....hope you are enjoying your talk with Greg in the garden...a bit of relaxation is exactly what you need...

Well dear friends, it's that time of night..I must drive in tomorrow again so it will be up and at it early as to beat some of the traffic..and must pay my respects at the grave site before leaving for work...odd feeling also seeing ones name on the tombstone...well at least I know I'll have a place to rest my head...lol...

Night/night

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, everyone must be sleeping in??? no, busy then right...
Not sure why but I'm flying high today, it's a good day..started my morning with a trip to Roger's gravesight, left the roses, said hello and know when I left that he was proud of what I've accomplished and how I've dealth with things over the year..know he'd say, "Bet, might have been tough on you at times, but it sure has given you the fortitude to move on with life and take what comes and deal with it..." and he'd be right!!!

So then on to the city, Judy, had my tunes just a blarring..tunes from the past..sang along with most...got to the city at 8:10 and my favorite store Canadian Tire wasn't open till 8:30 so drove and picked up donuts for everyone, then back to Canadian Tire...oooops you just can't imagine all the shrubs that found their way into my vehicle...actually one would think I've a jungle in my car...lol... so I'll put these in DG friendship garden to start the project..have already moved a few flowers in it so next spring, once I purchase all the sale shrubs/flowers it will be lovely...even purchased a jasmin vine for the arbor and 30 glad bulbs...will start slowly with those Carol, not sure how they'll do..who knows maybe as the sales continue I'll pick up more...now are yours in shade??? sun???

As I arrived near Paramount's Canada Wonderland about 8 miles from the office the smog was so thick you could almost touch it..will be nice to get home today..had thought about getting perm late aft. but maybe I'll try for the morning and get my grass cut...

Soooo quiet....

Always busy Judy..hows the battle with the air-conditioner, are you still working in extreme heat...thought of you this a.m. just as I was leaving noticed that I wouldn't see out living room window because I have air at 58 and it's over 90 then add humidity...did you inquire as to the 'butane curling iron?' if you can't find one, I could pick one up for you and ship it with a few extra butane cylinders...just a thought...

Got my invoice yesterday for gas energy..little note attached to say as of July 1st. it would be increasing by approx. 40%...wow, that's quite an increase..then, a note from Municipality saying now that I had completed all the outside work on the house that they would come and assess property value for taxation purposes...today I have to drop into insurance company because they are increasing value of house as well so policy goes up...thank goodness I spent my bucks on flowers/shrubs or they'd have gotten it all...

Glenview, IL

Goood Morning Friends.

Betty, you are just such a sweetheart. Now that I have seen you, I am just smiling and marveling at all you accomplish. LOL, Ive been playing my tunes too...singing and just enjoying some faves. Funny, been contemplating on issue with niece and all the songs i've heard just turned my bad thoughts good....Joy to the World, all the boys and girls, Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea, joy to you and me!...LOL, there were others too but that one is stuck in my head.

LOL, has taken me all week to catchup in the threads. I watch 11 in all! So much fun to read, Lurk...and play.
...I've to tell you, I am still dreaming!! Last night my best friend Steve surprised us with a visit! We had lots to catch up on. he had moved to Wisconsin and has been gone for a year and ahalf. No phone, no car...etc so keeping track of him was rather hard. We all laughed, because all his buds here were taking bets on how long he would/could live in Wisconsin. LOL, think I won...I said at least a year(only because he has family there.) So there went my evening.

I worked till 7:15 P.M. I tell ya, I just knew I was going to get slammed. Geesh, people know of meetings, The work i've gotten should have been done Tues and Wednesday. I just got the material yesterday!! So on my feet all day, got everything together, had to do some fancy dancing on supplies, because no one thought to order, guessing I am a supply store. So...pieced together 185 packets, through together contents for folders. LOL, I was in complete glory, ah work consist of sitting doing nothing but play on the computer to whirl winding around my tables, now THAT IS WORK, woohoo. Today, I work until 12:00, already aggetated as the guy I am waiting for contents for the last batch of 25 is lollygagging over there and my deadline is 11:00 pick up...Hands on the hips going to have shag him into getting started.

Then if I don't see you before I go, wishing you all a safe and happy weekend!
Steve decided he wanted to go to the house, so it's home, pack and off we go again. Geesh this is why I only have jungles....off to check the weather. Going to rain here so if it's going to rain there, then just maybe we will stay home.
...But, at least I have some crafts I can then concentrate on. So, all is good anyway.

Dawn, congratulations on second grandchild. More love to spread.

Carol Hope you had nice visit with your Brother!! How exciting.

Well, i am sure some have posted as I write...

Have a good day all, see you on break.

OH, LIZ...Thank you so much for the Lemmons!! woohoo Steve was so excited asked if he could open the box, before i got home. Smiles, your a doll.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will be nice for you to get away Judy..mini vacation you'll have..has Steve got a project on the go or is it boating he's anxious to do??? bet it's boating! So funny, went to post office last night (few hundred feet from lake) and there was Greg's truck..guess the Foxy Lady went out on a ride...maybe it's his way of remembering his dad...talked to Jeff this morning, asked him if today was a special day, said yes, Aunti Linda's birthday...I just said 'oh' and he started to laugh..nope I remember he said...did would now be collecting old age pension...Greg talks about his dad often but Jeff still hurts and is quiet about his feelings..graveyard visiting is not something he does...everyone's so different...

You can tell I'm very much conscious of Roger these past few days..almost every subject that comes up brings me back to memories...odd after so long, and yet, it was like yesterday...

Now back to the post..will your friend now live in the area Judy, is this just a visit? did you know he was coming or did he take you by surprise...I enjoy surprise visits as long as I can feed them by ordering meals...lol...

1/2 way through the day..2 more hours to go..home my lovelies in the car don't bake..tried to park in the shade..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hey Laura, did you enjoy your visit with the family...did they treat you well for your birthday, do hope so..know you got a new sewing/quilting machine right..now you'll be able to accomplish wonders with that material..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Need to find a real job...just endless morning, nothing to do except post..and no one is here to play with...shucks...50 minutes left....looks like another storm such as the one we had last night is moving through..hope it waits till I get home and shrubs planted..

Hi friends - Good to see everyone posting here. Bev, I received the Hosta yesterday. I don't have any like them, so it is nice to have the new ones. John will plant them after sun goes in for the day today.

Cat - Really freaky about the door bell going off during the middle of the night and it happening more than once. I understand that it is an unsettling thing to happen. I also hate for the phone to ring at odd times of the night. Our minds automatically go to "something is wrong."

Laura, beautiful baby, so sweet. I also love the quilts. You do some fine work. I can't wait to be able to see the Friendship Quilt that you have planned.

Betty, Judy, Liz and any others who posted. I hope that everyone will have a wonderful weekend.

Ruby

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, because Kathy was so kind in cutting my grass yesterday afternoon, 1/2 done when I got home, then left for perm while she did the other 1/2 for me (even brought me homemade cookies-lol) can't get better than that, anyway she mentioned she'd see if there were any 'garage' sales in town as she doesn't drive..we checked new paper and there are about 10 in Midland and same in Penetanguishene so I told her as I didn't have to cut grass this morning, if it wasn't raining I'd take her... so it's a sunshine day for now so guess I'm going...

Got all those shrubs planted in the new garden..need so much more but it is a 'start'..going to look for wood this morning and start making the DG name/mileage signs from time to time so by fall I can include it in the garden...

Laura, she is absolutely beutiful...now can you tell me who does all your photo's..is it something you all decide to do or is it a photographer..your inset photo is beautiful, that of your daughter and children you posted months ago in the flesh was awesome and now look at Isabelle Rose, drapped in roses...so unique..must be a professional right? if not, they should be....

Love the quilts...OMG don't tell me you started your first quilt doing those hexagon flowers, even I wouldn't attempt it...you have a talent for quilting Laura...

Money is not everything, your health is more important..how long has the doctor asked for you to be off?

Glad you you enjoyed your birthday and Laura, don't worry about your family, you have us, DG family - someone who is always here praying for the best for you or here should you need someone to talk to...our arms are always open....hope you know that...

Feels good having curls again..lol..told the hairdresser Bob I'd like the back whispy, he said 'we'll see' .. when you go to these walk in salons, you get hairdresser who is next available..so I just shrugged..towards the end was he was styling my hair, I said, 'don't forget the wispies' and he shook his head..said he hates doing perms..people damage their hair..oh well...he did it..turned out ok...

Enough of being sappy..better get dressed...

Oh tried those cookies, yum/yum she didn't have any peanuts so she put pretzels in them..actually they were fantastic..kept a few for breakfast coffee which I'm on my way to do...

Enjoy your morning everyone...be back later IF, no IF know I'll find some treasures...if not, then I'll drop into the nursery and purchase a few plants....now that's a plan..

hi there,

yeah i started on that quilt, they said it would be hard and it was but in a way it was theraputic too. it gave me something to do that i didnt have to think about much you know, making the flowers and such... the rest was hard tho and the backing and such has to go on yet.

as for the pics, i did them... just bought some fake flowers and put her on some of my quilting fabric! hahahaah do all my own pics so thanks for the compliments. got a $100 for a gift today.. will hang onto it as i am not sure how to spend it. and i got a target voucher hmmm.

hey i found a place that sell big clothes in the USA... they dont post to australia though so i was wondering if i can send it to one of you.... maybe seed and then western union the postage to me??
the clothes go up to a 8X!!! im a 6X but they are so cheap and im desperate for clothes as i have said before... what do you gals think?

well off to bed...

oh, i forgot, im off work for another week and then 4 hours a day every second day for a week and then we will see. fishes and the loaves i guess for another month....

xx
hugs

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, did you want me to go to that outlet agan??? or perhaps they didn't fit...wouldn't mind doing so...wow, go into photography..maybe that's your true calling...

Liz, so funny about the coolants..lol..gave some around here as well and all wear them...wore one of my new Florida outfits today while at garage sales and had about 6 different people come up to me to say they just loved the outfit..here I have several outfits I've paid over $500. for and nada..nope no major compliments..pay $24.98 and compliments galore..just goes to show you...

Not a whole lot out there, did buy some glass plates for a flower project I'm doing..need more...hardly anything worth purchasing..but Kathy enjoyed her morning...did purchase tomatoes and cucumbers so off to make a sandwhich before I leave for the party at 2:00..busy day, so hot and humid that I'll only stay an hour or so...at least I hope that's all I'll stay...then I've promised myself to start taking out those 150 wine glasses and come up with something to paint on them..once I start it will go fairly quickly...

How do I get into such messes...lol

Crozet, VA

Wow Betty, that is a lot of glasses that need decorating. When is the wedding? I remember a long time ago when someone delivered them to you. That was back during cold weather, if I remember correctly. LEt us know what you decide to put on them. I know that you will do something that is wonderful.

Liz, your cucumber planting sounds a lot like me and seeds. I would be ashamed for anyone to see several spots where I was calling myself planting seed. Seems if I think I have a lot of something, I always end up planting them way, way, way too close together. I have several things coming up that are basically on top of each other.

Last year by accident I spilled a packet full of Black Barlow Columbine. I just learned the name recently, so Sharran it is what I sent you some of and since the name has black in it, I suppose that it should be in your black garden. Have you planted them yet?

The Columbine all grew very, very close together but have been healthy despite my error. I have shared pieces of it with several folks and have several others who want some when it is planting time again.

Next summer I will find out what sort of Columbine are growing very close together in another bed. I am hoping that they are a mixed packet that I bought. They are up to a good size now, but won't bloom this year, or next maybe. If I remember correctly it took either two or three years for the Black Barlow to bloom even though the greenery was very healthy a long time before.

Other than washing clothes, I am finished all that I plan to do today. I watered a bit earlier and then worked with inside plants for a bit. Well, I might decide to make a pan of yummy brownies. Got a hankering.

Have a good weekend friends.

Ruby

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ruby, what a memory..yes I (hang my head in shame) it was Easter weekend, didn't really want to do them but told her IF I did, bring them early, didn't want to wait till last minute...omg...it's last minute...got the wedding invitation, don't want to open it..sure it's soon...so, off to the party and then home and start being creative, only thing is, how can you be creative when you don't really want to do something????

Spent an hour drilling holes in saucers, bowls, plates etc. to make a project for a 'swap'..do wish I had other colored glass dishes...oh well...do the best I can...had to stop, time to go...

I sent Shar some black seeds as well, not sure how they are doing..please take photo for us Ruby..just came downstairs, camera next to computer..will try and stop of in Midland and if the folks let me, I'll take some photo's of the house and gardens I'm in love with..

Sounds as though you've accomplished much Ruby...
Must leave, don't want to be late..
bye for now..
hope I have photo's when I come back..lol

Crozet, VA

Hey Betty, I have lots of photos. What would you like to see? I am leaving the computer and heading for the couch to relax the rest of the day. I will post some for you tomorrow.

This picture is the top of a monument that John built about fifteen years ago when we first met. These flowers were in bloom during the end of June and the blooms are now long gone.

Will do so Laura...I'll check it out in the a.m.

Ruby, you tell John I love his rock work..absolutely beautiful as is your yard...

Well for a girl who was going for 2 back around 4 it's now time for bed..I have been home though since 7pm..BIL Robert, 1 year younger than Roger had asked me before I went to Chicago if I could repair his boat top..today at Bob's he reminded me..told him to come early tomorrow morning, but as we were leaving he said his girlfriend was working and he was going home so told him to bring it over and I'd do it tonight..so he just left, as pleased as punch..wanted to pay me and I said it was a 'no go' sooo he was looking at my back shed that I said I needed support system done on it because of all the weight of the snow come winter and he said he'd be over in Sept. and re-enforce it...terrific..

As for the party, Bob and I took count of how many years we've known each other..just going out with Roger and I was 17 so 42 years...long time, lots of history between us..they celebrated his 74th because it's doubtful he'll make it until his 75th..so frail, has sugar diabetes and his entire foot was swelling and turning red...hospital tomorrow for sure... so very pleased I went..Greg/Mel and the boys arrived shortly after I did and we all left at same time..Bob had to go in and lay down...so some sadness in with the celebrations...

Then of course I passed the house that I love, yard is the nicest I've ever seen, even in magazines..so got brave, parked in their yard, the couple were having a cool one, introduced myself, aren't I bold, told them how much I admired their yard..wouldn't you know I hadn't charged my camera and only got a couple of pictures taken before it died..could have cried, BUT the good news is, I asked them about all the metal work they had done, found out where, and then he showed me the metal birdhouses he makes, (used jerrycans, metal containers etc)!!!

W E L L I said, some of those houses need copper roofs and wouldn't you know I've some in the car, lol, went and gave him some..if you remember Judy and Liz, it was on the floor of my vehicle so it made the Chicago trip..lol...well he was ever so pleased, asked where I lived and said he'd make me a birdhouse and they'd drop it off one day...then when the camera died, said some back anytime, we'll give you the entire tour and visit...

Between doing things for others such as taking Kathy to garage sales, Roberts boat tarp, visiting with Bob someone made my day!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dah, wanted to download pictures of party and the 2 I took of the gardens I visited...forgot to charge the batteries so will have to wait till morning...

Think I'll put my sewing machine away, tidy the mess I made with thread..go to bed early and play with wine glasses tomorrow....

Dawn thought she'd lost us..sweetie started a new thread..Jeannine posted some photo's of her trip..I'm adding the link...

CORDELEDAWG posted the following on the other thread..thought I'd move it over...

Now that's my kind of vacation. Looks so relaxing. I could spend the rest of my life looking a view like that. After my dad died, three years later, my mom decided to take a permanent vacation for a view like that. She found a nice house literally on the side of a mountain in east Tenn and bought it. The area around west NC, northeast GA and Southeast Tenn was their vacation spots.

Deb, do you get to visit her often? I did live on a lake very similar all my married life, never seemed to have time to enjoy the view, always had company..they vacation, tan and I'd be helping Roger cook..lol...trade offs right..

Gab tomorrow

Thanks for helping find the most recent thread. I was getting dizzy. LOL I've been praying for rain. It's rained in our county but missed our house. Even rained across the street. My neighbor got a good shower. I watched it standing in my yard, dry as a bone. Looked up a couple of times praying for the wind to push that cloud a little to the west towards me. So I decided since I wasn't going to get any rain, I'd continue to drag the 500' of water hoses around and water all my beds and those gardens surrounding the pond. Sprayed burmuda grass killer in all of them and of course, the rain clouds moved over to my house. Glad to see the rain eventhough I had earlier that morning sprayed $20 worth of selective grass killer. That was ten days ago and I had given up that the grass killer was effective with the afternoon shower we had gotten. Today, I started noticing all the burmuda grass is turning brown and the crab grass is turning red. It all worked out, got rain and the grass is dying. I'll spend a good portion of tomorrow pulling out that dying grass.

Grass killer Deb..when you spray grass killer does it not kill all your plants? Haven't heard of that product...any photo's of the pond..if I remember correctly it was a natural pond right? lucky you...OMG imagine standing there in your own corner of the world and it's raining all around you...odd isn't it..guess it's like when tornado's hit, can destroy everything and yet leave a little article set where it was...

I had shovelled about 2 loads of topsoil a few weeks ago and seeded..even with all this rain it hasn't grown as quickly as I thought it would..can see little hairs ..think I expect too much..i.e. plant today, sod tomorrow..lol

Ok batteries were charged..wasn't just 2 photo's I took was 4..should have taken 40..but will make my way there next weekend and do so..so many corners of their property that calls you to visit..so here we go..

This home is an older home..property line on the right of the house is only about 20' or so and no gardens..front of house has some shrubs...all of the beauty is to the left..
