Cath, Is he really eating it or just traveling?

That looks like a web worm. . These are the soon-to-be moths that like to create a web-like sac in trees until the larvae becomes worms and then later, moths. They are particularly bad on pecan trees and some mulberry trees. Of course, I have both those at my house and we have just started seeing them this year. Sevin or malathion will kill them in the trees and on the ground. Or have a good ole stomp dance. You can pretreat the trees in the spring with a dormant oil. (Yeah, like I remember that in the spring!) But usually, they have not eaten my plants, just the trees.

So, maybe someone has another idea.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Kim, the caption to your picture is "What do you see when Barney says "Ahhh" :))

What an unusual bloom.. what's is its name? Peg

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Ha ha ha good one Peg! It is a Dutchman's Pipe.
BTW my dormant oil is...well still dormant lol never used it : }

OMG, Aristchola(sp)? Pipe vine?? I think I have one, no blooms yet. Thanks for posting the bloom! I think they are grossly beautiful! Hi Hotties! I found THIS on my budding Versi.. :( I have too many brugs to look leaf to leaf..(and the skeeters won tonight). I've sprayed with safers. Another soon-to-be-moth? Sorry, it's kinda blurry.

Oops, took a while to find the pic :)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Howdy...Sis's...

Kim...OHHH I like that bloom.. I am with Peg.. what is it?

Cat... yeah.. just knock him off.. and ..well whatever you want to do...hehe

Audrey... I think I need to get that slug bait.. maybe if I get rid of the slugs.. the #@!$ armadillos will leave on their own..WTG... BTW

Bonnie.. my brugs have the lil holes too.. not bad.. but they are there..

Going to help Tracie... aggiegirl.. dig and move her plants tomorrow. About 4 of us DGers are going tomorrow.. and then next Saturday.. hopefully there will be more Dgers there than this Saturday.. The way the pics look... we will be digging all day.. and probably won't make a dent in digging them up.. She's in Lufkin.. if anyone wants to come help... hehe

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

AuntB it smelled faintly like Murpheys oil soap to me.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Okay, Kim, it's been a long week, I meant I've sprayed my brugs with safers soap. Do you mean Murpheys for me for the mosquitoes?? Or for the caterpillars?

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I meant the pipe vine smelled like Murpheys..I thought it was going to be stinky ; }

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

AuntB, could be an army worm... with the stripes..

Now how in the heck am I remembering all of these worm names and cannot even keep the hotties straight!! Gray hair does weird things to the brain...

Got to go cook dinner. Daugher here this weekend, so probably shopping and not much gardening.

Lov ya, Peg

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I alternate Safer's with Neem.
Just want to share a couple blooming right now.
This is Seredipity. I love the coloration.

Unfortunately, I can't bring Serendipity indoors to enjoy her scent.
This here is Cassie's Curls. One that's a good candidate for pot culture. She's indoors for the night.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Jaye they are beautiful! So you have your pots on wheels?? How lovey it must be to have that scent wafting indoors!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Serendipity is inground now :D But Cassie will be the only one in a pot, as she'd grow up to 3 ft., and budding at 2.
BTW, Kim, the frog windchime-mobile is in the house!!! Too pretty to be outdoors. I agree with Kel ;)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

OH, they are both beautiful! Nice pics! That Cassie's Curls is so cute, awwwwwwwwwwww! Serendipity is perfectly pink!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Just make sure to blow on t from time to time Jaye!! AuntB is Cassie's curls a mini?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Thanks Peg, you can steer over to Lowe's this weekend ;) Thanks for the worm ID.. Kim, LOL, The BLOOM SMELLED like Murphy's! lol I should go to bed! :) Something caught my eye on a colocasia last night, from one angle it resembled a tomato worm... Well, you know I sashayed right over there, ready to wage war. It was leaves, just starting to unfurl..

Thumbnail by AuntB
(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Aunt B, I found one on one of my brugs just min. ago. That's what's putting holes in the leaves! I think sevin will cure that!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

LOL!! Glad it was not a worm : } I just was outside and saw 2 praying mantis.... there good bugs right? I love how those leaves look when they are unfurling

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I don't like to use sevin, but just might have to. I usually don't see the soon-to-be sphinx moths until .... oh, very soon.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Is that what they are? I saw 2 different butterflies days earlier, and I thought that was what they were!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Kim, it is a mini. So lovely! Yep Audrey, I learned that just last year! All those childhood years picking them off tomato plants, they turn into the coolest flying bug.. The unfurling was on Coffee Cups, when they fill with dew or droplets of water, they tip over and do it again. If it rains hard they just bow over and look sad, waiting for it to be over.

Hi hotties, , wow, you have all been busy chatting today, well me busy too, not too much time in DG, which I love and specially thish thread, anyway, just checking in to keep my name alive over here.
Becky and aunt B I know about keeping mama happy. I thank you so much for your comments!

i will have a tripple tellow datura blooming tomorrow or should I say tonight, it is past midnight now, so I'll post pics later sisters ok, Love all of you , Clemen

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Clemen? Clemen..... Oh HOTTIE Clemen!!! ;) Clem! "keep my name alive over here" ... tsk tsk tsk, we know you are busy, and you're in our thoughts, mine anyway, when do I get a cutting of your pink/white beauty brug? ;) I would love to see more pics, if you have some. BUT, we ARE holdin' ya to the 3X datura, YELLOW, pretty!! Marion, anyone see Marion around Dave's Garden? I miss her and Faye and Lissa and Lorraineie ;) and Kimbob and I just know I've missed some HOTTIE we're missing. Did they miss the #7 link??? It's almost midnight here, this wimpy is up past my bedtime. B zzzzzzzzzz

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Nah, AuntB, you are not the only one up. For some reason I can't sleep and I have been all over the place. Ordered some more irises from Anjl's coop and I still don't have that old bed redone and moved, and ordered some daylilies for my purple garden. My DD's favorite color is purple, so I have started a completely purple garden under her bedroom window. She does not live here, but still visits alot. I started with what was labeled lavender, (but now it looks like catmint to me) and I plant the Persian shields there and purple coleuses. I ordered Strutter's Ball and Shark's Tooth daylilies. I've going to fill up that whole back yard after the groundwork ever gets done. It's just too bare and I have everything going down the sides of the fences, which cannot be seen from the house... bad sight lines there. :))

I'm going to have to take a mild sleeping pill or I am going to be worthless tomorrow. Lov ya, Peg

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

hey everyone. Cat your moth looks like a tussock moth and Bonnie yours looks like an army worm of some sort. You might post them in bug ID and you are sure to get a positive id on them. Hope everyone had a great day! Talk to you later. I got a huge package today from a generous dg member who sent me 20 plus rooted and cuttings of hoyas of every description, many with blooming spurs attached. I was blown away by such a generous gift. All she wanted for them was postage and she offered them to me. Unbelievable what sweet and wonderful people you find here. Here is a pick of the huge box of plants I got. A really BIG box!

Thumbnail by lavender4ever
