Oh I do hope Don's head is okay this morning!! LOL Enjoy and take pictures for the rest of us home bodies!!!
**SWEET INTERRUPTION** 6
Never been to Denver. Heard it's truly God's country up there. But everywhere in US is God's country. Never had a train ride neither. That will be an awesome rail ride...
So, will you be trying Bison steak Marion?
Good morning ladies.
Hope it's your last day ripping Marion. Forgot to ask whether you wore safety glasses when doing major remodeling work like that. Kel will never forget his safety glasses over his prescription glasses, but he'll always forget about the gloves!
This morning, it's off to the vet. This time for Lola. You read that Jojo.. FOR LOLA!!
Her annual physical. No mites, no heartworms and vet says she's the most well behaved Chi he had ever treated!! Told him she's 7 pounds of hell at home and only 1 pound of goodness. The heartworm meds went up a bit. Poor folks that can't give their pets the proper care.
Cloudy outside, but got to do my flora and fauna chores, like trimming and a wee bit of weeding.
Oh Jaye, it is BJ who might be getting the bison steak. To answer your question, yes I have had it. Hubby used to take clients to something called The Wild Game Feast or something like that. They served it one time.
Oh yes, I do wear protective glasses over my others when I'm ripping and using tools. Hubby taught me that long, long time ago!!! Haven't worked there today, have been outside laying out my lagsana bed!! Whoopee!!! You can't imagine, well maybe you can, the papers and cardboard that went out!!! Need to finish cutting the grass, don't like it to get to high as creepy crawlies come into the yard area. Trouble with living on lake----snakes do visit everynow and then! I hate them--I know they are good but not what they make me do to myself!!! LOL
How does it (bison) taste, Marion? Must it be marinated before they cook it? Any gamey taste? I'll try anything once.
Good for you, on starting your lasagna bed. All those grass clippings..throw them in there too.
Ewwww snakes get away from me!! I had seen a python swallowed a pig whole when I was small. I ran away from snake charmers!
MIL and BIL just came over for a brief visit.
All these years, and BIL had never once seen my oasis. Both couldn't fathom why I need 40 odd brugs. (Me neither LOL)
They left with a variegated and Dr. Seuss brugs each, a castor plant, moss roses and home grown tomatoes. They wanted a couple of plumies, until I told them that they can't take below 70. Too much maintenance for them. I tried my darndest best to sell them DG....you think they'd buy?
I was out of breath for a while there with them, outside. Thank God that prompted them to cut the visit short.....and the mosquitos too! :P
The time I had it I am not sure if it was marinated or not. Actually was in a stew and no gamey taste. I rather enjoyed it. I am a little hesitant about trying somethings.
Oh Jaye, there isn't that much grass to add. I have a very small area with grass and just let it go back into the soil--no bagging here! Will run the mower over the leaves and then rack and add to the pile. I have been checking the composting site trying to learn all I can!! So far a layer of newspaper and cardboard throughly wet!!! It's a real feeling of satisfaction today--can you say good?
I saw a snake, not sure if python or boa, swallowing a squirrel while in Costa Rica! What a site.
I had considered getting in on the brug co op but backed off for right now. I'd rather see how I do with the 4 I have then add some more later. I get spread to thin and then something gets neglected.
Break time is over, back to finish my list I promised myself I would get done today.
We just got back from our train ride up Pike's Peak... that was the most incredible experience... the views were breath taking, and the history that the tour guide told us was interesting... I took lots of pics, but you'll have to wait till I get home... can't figure out Don's computer... so, it'll be Thursday...
Mostly I was studying the boulders... took lots of pictures of boulders too so I can go home and make some for the tropical garden... I think I have my head around it now.
Well... we're showering and dressing for the big event tonight... so, I'll see ya'll later on... maybe not till morning... I don't know how late this thing tonight is going to last.
(toothy grin) bye bye !!!
Nope, no bison yet... but we don't know what's on the menu at the big bosses house tonight.
have fun bj. we miss you
Yes please have fun for all of us, BJ!
Sis, yep looks like you got Casa Blanca....! Congrats!!
YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh BJ can't wait to see the pictures.
Will we ever be normal again? I hope not.
Are we normal Marion. Thought we're beyond that!! *L,
Well I know I am beyond being normal---but I don't think I ever was normal!! So what has changed for me? Nada. LOL
Mum's favorite punishment was for me to sit under a tall table for hours. Little did she knows that I had my invisible buddies to keep me company...
Nope...not a normal kid...and now...not a normal adult!!
Off to bed....early to rise tomorrow.
Night Marion. BJ, hope you're having a fantastic time tonight.
Yes, I am calling it a day also. My body is begging to be put horizontal after today's work.
well, night night ladies...
We're back to the hotel, and Don has fallen asleep in the chair with the history channel on. Took him all of 10 minutes to zonk out.. We've had a non stop day, and night.
What a wonderful boss he has... really nice guy. There were about 200 people there. It was catered... served cafeteria style... and every dish had a name tag sitting by it. I didn't recognize any of the "names" they attached to the dishes, but here's my version of what we had... tossed salad, fajitas, bean enchiladas, corn casserole, chips and dips. Simple as that, now why didn't they just say what they were, instead of making up some fancy name for all that? Even the Peach Cobbler had some fancy name I didn't recognize.
Anyway, it was nice to see some of the people Don works with, and meet the ones I didn't meet last year. Some of them were going back to the bar that we all met at last night... but us old folks are too tired.
The BIG employee meeting will be tomorrow, so some of us wives are getting together in the morning to go to the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs... about an hour away. Of course, I will take a bunch of pictures.
Well, goodnight sleepyheads... will catch up when I get home...
Oh goodness ladies, you have been busy. I went to San Antonio, Tx on Sunday and Monday, and found some wonderful plnats on sale for 50% off. I came home with a pink and yellow angel trumpet. Like I needed two more. I already had 9... And a real pretty double yellow devil trumpet. , and some coleos, and some ornamental peppers, and some yellow shrimp plants, and a giant pink hibiscus. The back of my truck was full. Hubby says no more shopping trips for you!!!
I know the bloom is pointing down, but after great talk, it is definately a devil trumpet.
Morning everyone. Oh what pretty pictures of your plants. Humm, need to check and see if I have anything blooming.
Good morning!
Garden of Gods...walk in reverance, BJ! Yah....many good ole foods are renamed to make them sound more upscale, or either written in French. Like cheesy potatoes become Pom de Terre avec fromage!! Lolol!!!
Hey Kim, I am glad you found us. Been missing ya and your flamingos. Looks like it's just not them you raise. Beautiful orchid. Come back soon...and Marion promises to share Audrey's Bailey's.
Joining DG is actually not a very wise thing to do if one intends to save! Right Linda Kay? Yep, got to add more and more flora and fauna to our growing collection. Marion's the wise one, just sticking to 4 brugs. We are the hopeless ones!!
Have a nice 5 ft. pink hib. that was rooted from twigs..actually! That bush is my sacrifice to Japanese Beetles.
Nice shrimp plant. BTW, Marion have you ever found another fruit cocktail?
Another flush off Dr. Seuss here.
Wow, beautiful Dr. Seuss. How big are the blooms? I bet she smells sooooooo nice?
Shopping for plants is the name of the game. Like potato chips, can't stop with just one. I now have 11 angel trumpets, (in just 2 months) 1 devil trumpet. And I have lots of seedlings of Monster white, and about 6 double purple datura seedlings.
All thanks to this site and JanLynn getting me hooked...
Come this fall, I will give everyone a cutting or 2, or 3...
Later
Linda Kay
Linda Kay, daturas seedlings stay true to their parents, but not for brugs. I gave away all my datura seeds. They sure are beautiful, especially the purple ones. This here was my black currant swirl, last year.
Brug cuttings will stay true, but the seedlings most often revert back to one of it's grandparents or great grandparents.
Dr. Seuss is truly an old favorite. The blooms are about 9 inches and the scent is a cross of vanilla and hint of lemon. I'm more excited about Serendipity. I didn't notice it's bloom last night, but this morning, the pink is absolutely a deep rose one. There are still a few more unopened buds for me to look forward to.
Oh my Serendipity is gorgeous!! Did you post that on purpose? I think maybe you did--I just might be in trouble now!!! Love the color. I was trying to be good and not take on more than I can take care of until some are better established. The battle may be winning!
No, I haven't found any more of the Fruit Cocktail Shrimp Plant--even checked where the squirrels have been :-)--not luck there either. I keep looking and if/when I do there will certainly be some more purchased.
I have had a really bad case of the "slows" today. Managed to get water in my ear last night and it is playing havoc with my balance and "get up and go" today. In fact, it just "got up and went". Thank goodness I have stuff the doc gave me but it isn't working fast enough to please me! Trying to be patient--tough for me!!!
Oh how pretty! Thanks for sharing the info and the pics. I did not know about the daturas seeds. So if I save the seeds from the double yellow plant, the seeds may be something totally different? Well, curiosity has got this cat, so now I am waiting for the seed pod to ripen, and we will see what we have for next year. Wow, such a long process. Guess it will be worth it.
Can the daturas be cross polinated like the brugs, or even with a brug?
I think a purple brug would be soooooo pretty.
Enough questions for now.
Later
Linda Kay
Ah ha! Inquiring minds want to know don't they Linda Kay.
Linda Kay, it's the brugmansias' seeds that one don't know what the blooms may be. If you want something to be true to the plant's bloom and color, stick to cuttings.
Think somewhere was written on brug crossing with dat. It might be in Abads...will have to look it up.
When I first started collecting last year, a kind DGer started me off with 2. But I'm lucky that a local nursery lady do sell old named brugmansias. So, there I saved on shipping costs.
Aww Marion, take your time for everything. Don't get up all of a sudden. Especially don't drive if you don't have to...like I tell Sis who has vertigo...don't operate any heavy machinery!! That means, leave the jack hammer alone!!!! :O
Think I'll check online for that fruit salad shrimp plant. You got me curious!
I am really surprised I haven't seen much of it as it is so unusual and I thought would be a big seller. Maybe that is the problem--they sold out for this year.
Oh I am taking it easy. I have this ear problem ever so often and I know what happens when it starts. Still moving slowly --funny watching me go down the stairs--one step at a time like a toddler learning to walk!! LOL Oh well keeps me from falling then it is okay.
This is it, Linda Kay. Embryo culture for dat X brug. http://www.abads.net/Rich_Sanders/Will-they-cross.htm
So far, according to ABADS, no purple brug and no pink datura.
Please don't you fall! I'm too far away to hear your cry for help!!
How are your brugs doing, Marion?
My brug are doing quiet well. So far so good and I talk to them every day. Lots of new leaves--geez these babies grow fast!!! No, I don't want to fall either. With my luck I would break something and I just don't have that in my schedule of activites at the moment. How are you and Kel doing today?
Everything is peachy here! Peaches everywhere that is!! Neighbour gave me a bushel, and I already ate a dozen between today and yesterday! Yes M'am I'm watching my sugar..extra insulin!
Kel is heating up some Schwan's chopped steak and mash potatoes. He's so easy to please when it comes to food. Very rarely I cook as working with him in the mornings, tire me out easily!
Found this Marion. Some beautiful justicias..
http://www.kartuz.com/search=Justicia
Oh my, I want one of each. Noticed the Fruit Salad was sold out--might explain why I haven't seen any more.
DD is cooking shredded chickens for taco tonight. I'm afraid I haven't been much use to anyone today--to unsteady. I hate this!!!
Then it's perfect time to just enjoy doing nothing Marion!!!
You could still maintain equilibrium when shopping online... ;)
Chicken taco sounds good. Make mine extra hot!
Tonight Project Runway starts. Love to see what this year's budding designers come up with. Bigger question is..where do they get their ideas from. Especially when it comes to using recycle products. The producers should come up with a competition where they have to use some live plants as part of their couture!
Oh that would be one to watch for sure! Okay, extra hot ones for Jaye. Actually she has done most of the cooking this summer as she is limited in time once school starts back which is July 28th!! Then Mom goes back on kitchen duty! Work out okay.
Nope so shopping online today. Trying to get some much needed filing of papers done both in the real files and the shredder files!
