How many do you care for?
Night Owls
Right now, my own DSD, a 8 and 10 year old M-F and a 23 mo. old most F-Su. I want to add a 7 and 9 year old for the school year.
Goodness. My DH's mom raised 8 kids. I only had the one and it was hard enough. My mom raised 5, 4 boys and me.
I should let you get some sleep. My DB in OR wanted to text around midnight and now I'm wide awake. LOL ☺
I was going to go to bed, but I forgot to take my honey for allergies, so I have to finish that. Figured I get back on here for a couple min.
Sorry, I had cat issues last night. One wouldn't leave the other alone so I had to break up a fight.
That happens often enough at my house. Nero loves to chase Koshka.
Our female, Isis, loves to tease the male, Monty. She'll hide around a corner then smack him in the nose when he comes around it. He, apparently, had enough last night and fought back. Doesn't happen very often but he out-weighs her by 7 lbs.
Another black baby!
He's also somewhat similar to Koshka. Koshka is a lynx point Siamese; that's a Siamese bred with a tabby. She's short hair though.
My uncle had a Maine Coone, his was small and still a very large cat. Here is my mother's beast. She is long and big, about the same mass as my two put together. Her name is Hellion, her brother, who a friend of a friend has is bigger and named Dante. They were foundlings so I don't know what type they are.
Mine are only about 5 years old. I lost both my last cats about a month apart. One died of some sickness, they were doing tests when she died. The other got out and got hit by a car. I believe you need two cats or you need to be home all the time and play with the cat a lot. So, we replaced the first one quickly and then the second one slower, I didn't know she'd been hit till years later. I was already having a bad mental period and mom and my brother kept it from me.
My brother lost a cat to a car. He found out when he came home from work and found him. He (the cat) was an Abyssinian. Beautiful cat. Our cats are inside only, unless we are out with them or in the backyard. Monty is 10 and Isis is 8. All our families animals are rescues frothe ASPCA.
Mine are indoor only, but she escaped. I think she missed her sister.
My brother in OR refuses to get another cat to replace his Ollie who died this past winter. He said it was too painful for him. Amazing how they become your children.
If I'd lost both before getting a new one I might not have replaced them, but my quality of life is much better with cats.
Amen.
zhinhu/kwanjin, i'm here. Just looking at the pics. you two posted of your cats. We have 16, 5 live in the house. Had to put one to sleep about 3wks ago. I need to get a camera so I could post pics. but It's about all I can do do navigate around this computer as I've only had it a couple of weeks. Leeflea51
If any of you have seen me post you know what an animal and nature lover I am. I came from a nursing background and love a challenge to try and cure or relieve symptoms. My fiend say " If it's blind in one eye, 3 legged and skinny take it to George!" I just lost my little poodle Maggie this week. I feel lost without her. She was my couch and bed warmer. I have just 2 cats. Dolly rose(named after the madame in Anne Rices book "feast of all saints") and a new kitty that a friend had to get rid of due to housing. We have 4 dogs. 3 beagle mix pups we raised from babies, Payne, paddle foot and Brutus, an inside dog copper(doxie/chi mix) A set of peafowl, guinea fowl and chickens.
We live deep in the woods of eastern KY. I went to college here and fell in love with the area. Theres 100 acres here with lots of woods, native plants and creeks. I wouldn't move for anything. My SO and I have lived here for about a year or so here now. The only thing he does not like is we can get no TV of any kind. Just through the computer(which is not really that bad, with netflix and major network free watching hooking computer to TV was the bet thing we could have ever done)
We have 3 kids. 16, 15 year old boys and a 12 year old little girl. All 3 lived with us until ab out a year ago. The 15 and 12 year old went to live with their mother and the oldest wanted to stay with us. He may not me mine by blood, but He is mine!
Well I have prob told you more then you wanted to know about me! It's just nice to see other Night owls out!
George
This is the creek in my front yard
George, was looking for you. Hello. I was a registered nurse before the manic-depression became too much. Luckily, I haven't been in the hosp. for about 10 yrs. I nursed for 16yrs. I, too, have a SO, of 30 yrs. I'm 51/he's71 and just retired from the local hosp. after having worked there for 36 yrs. I'm in N.E. Mississippi, in a somewhat rural area and we get Directtv. which I do like, esp, docs, and old movies, esp. Bette Davis and Katherine Hepburn. Am going to watch 'Now Voyager" tonight. As far as animals, we, too, are animal lovers with 16 cats, 5 of which live inside. A female stray came up recently and we are going to have to have her spayed soon. Your part of the country seems lovely and the pic you posted shows that. We live at the foot hills of the Appalachians, about 50 miles from Florence/Muscle Shoals, AL and about 50 miles from Tupelo, MS, near to where I was born and reared. I'm told I have a very pronounced Souther accent. Often people ask if I'm from New Orleans. I'm not but used to spend alot of time there and in deep Cajun country. Please feel free to rsvp. Lee
Lee and daylilydaddy – Yeah! Two new people added to the list in one night. I started this on July 11th and no one but kwanjin has talked to me on here.
Welcome to the thread.
Lee – Sorry I pointed you over here and then disappeared. Just had other things I needed to get done and knew that I could spend more time then I had on here alone, so figured I should get what I needed to get done finished and then could mess around on here till I was ready for bed.
I’m diagnosed Bi-Polar so I understand what you mean. I think I’ve finally found a medication that works, but it’s been very hard at times.
daylilydaddy – I want your creek in my front yard! I’ll take the 100 acres and move to KY if you’re giving it away ;o)
I don’t have any standard television either, but mine is by choice. We do a lot of DVDs. We get them from the library, friends, occasionally buy them. We were on one of those mail DVD deals, but we weren’t making it through the DVDs so it wasn’t worth it to keep it when we could get as many DVDs as we could watch for free. The only problem is the condition sometime leaves something to be desired.
I have one DSD, 7 years old. I know what you mean by “He may not me mine by blood, but He is mine!” I feel the same way about DSD.
Not too much information for me. I’d love to see more pictures of your property.
zhinu/daylilydady, zhinu, I couldn't tolerate the lithium so now I take Tegertol along with Zoloft. No, it is not easy. Re: daylilydaddy and his creek, isn't that lovely? The closest running water as far as springs, creeks, etc., is a slow, trickling spring surrounded by abou 12 of our native orchids, Cypripedium. They are growing up through the moss that is long the little spring. Love hill and mountains. for 3 years I lived and worked in Greenville,MS which in on the Mississippi River. the land is as flat as a pancake. I felt too exposed. At least, if necessary, you can seek refuge in the mountains. Here, in MS, the highest point is about 30 miles away and is only about 300-400fr. but there are rolling hill and cliffs. Please excuse my stupidity but what does DSD mean? Do let's continue to encourage daylilydaddy to post more pictures. Must get a digital camera. Leeflea51(Lee)
Dear Step Daughter, sometimes written DStD but I find the Capital and lowercase annoying, and the StD part just seems wrong. I take Lamictal it's a one pill bi-polar medication.
So forwarded answer from free web sites. - Um... I always have trouble explaining people. My DH is 32, 33 in Nov. Tall, red headed, smart @$$, geek. He's perfect for me, and is my perfect partner, though I’m not claiming he’s perfect himself. We complement each other, what he's good at is generally an area that I'm weak in and vice versa. I'd write more, but my sleep meds just kicked in, I'll finish this tomorrow.
Thanks for the clarification. I must be a total doofus as one of my neices would say. I'm not familiar with Laminctal. The Abilify I've heard about on tv and in med. books seems to be one I'd avoid for it seems to have too many side effects, esp., the extra-pyramidal symptoms--uncontrolled movements of tongue, torso, etc. As long as I' m stable on these, then I can deal with that. Since for the last year that I've had bone/knee problems, I've had to take various pain meds. and they tend to cause insomnia for me. Instead of easing the pain and helping me sleep, like they do most people, they cause me to have excessive energy. I really don't mind because not only can I lessen the pain, I can get the mopping, vacuuming, and other things done. The med. I take has, around here at least, a terrible reputation. It's Oxycontin 40mg that I take 2xday. I don't know why it has such a bad reputation as I really can't tell I've taken a thing except for the lessening of th pain. Now, the first ones my doctor prescribed, Lortabs 10mg. did in fact ease the pain but it was they which kept me awake. I just hate the fact that I have to take meds. It took me years to accept the fact that I needed to take the meds for the manic-depression. I wanted to take it when I thought I needed it instead of everyday but due to that, there were consequences as a result, so therefore, I haven't missed a dose in 10-12 yrsl Will run and cook a little b'fast. until later, Lee
This is very interesting. I also am Bi-polar! I am called unipolar most of the time. I have extreme manic phases. Last night it was baking breads until 5am and then I have been on a canning/freezing binge also. I am on 3 different types of meds to control my manic phases. The bad thing is I'm OCD on top of that, so you can just guess how hard it is when I go through a manic phase then wake up to my house in a mess and unorganized! My SO has the patients of a saint. He just watches me and shakes his head a lot.
Now the thing that sucks is I have had 1 heart attack and double open heart bypass surgery. Family thing. Not a good combo with the bi-polar. I will start adding some pics of the place. I will not bog you all down. If it gets too much just say STOP or new thread. I have 9 fairly large gardens and a pond. So a lot of pics are flowers and of course tons are daylilies and regular lilies. Here's my male peacock this spring with his train just starting. It got to about 6 feet
George
daylilydaddy, good of you to share. Bi-polar, unipolar, manic-depressive, we have one thing in common in that we are often up at night. My SO just went toget cigs. for me. They , way too much coffee and cussing are but a few of my vices. At 51, with bad knees, I haven't the chance or the energy to party much anymore. Love making bread. Haven't made any in a while. I'd get a bread machine but much of the joys of bread making is the kneading and of course the smell. Heart attack: I'm expecting one any minute with my smoking, asthma and quick temper. So many gardens have you. My hat is off to you. Wish I had the energy and the physical capacity to do but a fraction of that. Great pic. of the peacock. Leeflea51
This is creek to the right of main creek. This is my favorite walking creek. We built a little bridge to get to the meadow. The meadow is called "Copper's meadow" named after our little dog. He loves crossing that bridge and heading into the woods. The old home place was at one time over there. We capped one well, but didn't know there was another one. Well Copper fell into it while chasing a deer. We couldn't find him for a day and finally heard a little yip. Thank god the well was dry. So the name "Copper;s meadow" stuck and we even have the well capped now with one of those big flower basket things. So you guessed it. It's Copper's well!
One more for now. This is where the 3 creeks come together. My earth goddess grotto. Hey guess what else we have in common. My heart doctor doesn't give me he%% about it because he does it to. We both smoke!
I will work on getting the pics more organized by fall, winter spring. I take tons of pics. I was involved in a thread called carol's journey. it was started by a women in Alaska who had terminal brain cancer. I got really into it and made tons of cyber friends. I posted pics like a mad man on that thread. We lost our carol this spring, but decided to keep the thread going.
daylilydaddy, thank goodness you were able to locate Copper so quickly. We have a disused well that we had to have capped for fear one of the cats will fall in it. Native azaleas are the best as far as I'm concerned. I think more people should take advantage of natives. I just think it's environmentally better. Sure, I couldn't get by without my gardenias and tuberoses but most of our plants are natives, from the oaks, hickories, beeches, pines, sweet bays, etc. Copper's Meadow. I like that. It makes me want to just go an lie there. It seems as easy as the steps described in" Love! Valour! Compassion!' Leeflea51
I lied. One more of what a manic phase can do to me. This was this weeks manic phase I bought a canner and freezer and went to town processing food for winter. I still have to finish the bushel of peaches today, apple butter and more tomatoes. I am an ole country boy at heart!
Type at ya all later. I am so happy there are other night owl's. Now I can come and bug you all when I'm up late!
George
If you go to my home page on DG you can see me and my partner and son.
George, have done so,made the right assumptions, and think you have a wonderful family. Congrats on that. Your canning looks beautiful and I'm sure just as good. Til later. Leeflea51. I posted on your personal d-mail. See that too.
