I'm back ... no problems logging off and back on. Still can't see the photo's though. I'm sure Admin must be pulling their hair out with d-mails and such! It will probably all be working fine by the morning. I'm glad I'm not one of the ones who show they have been removed! They probably can't get back on the site if that has happened. I sure feel sorry for Dave, Terry & Crew with the headaches they must be having right about now. Hopefully everyone will be understanding and realize it's just a technical glitch and will be repaired as soon as possible. As long as I can TALK (^_^) I won't complain about not being able to see pictures. LOL. Just give me more to look forward to catching up on tomorrow!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok.........let me try as I seem to be able to see all the pictures except Nancy's...........I will show you new pics of morning glories from this morning.

Guess what?????????? Now I can't see my pictures or the one Nancy just tried to post........uh oh..........computer glitch has hit Texas now. But Sally saw the morning glory pictures. They are the easiest plant I have ever tried to grow. Girls......you are missing something by not visiting the Morning Glory site. You can't mess up with them.

*****if I can't see pictures, I am going to watch CNN for a while.....

Uh oh ... maybe Dave needs to fertilize the garden a little bit! ^_^ It's rebelling! I couldn't get any of the pages or forums to load for a couple of minutes!

Nope Nanc ... still can't see your pic's. Aren't we all so spoiled? I sure hope everything will be growing and blooming as normal tomorrow!

I don't think I am going to log out tonight ... might not be able to get back on tomorrow. Computers are such wonderful things but can be such a pain in the butt too! I know I couldn't live without one!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

How funny! Now I can see my own morning glory pics but still can't see Nancy's attempts.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, can you see now? I am going to post a couple more pics.......the morning glory that you like in the middle has several different colors each day.

This is the same plant again.........I don't know what is eating on these leaves and I need to find out from the morning glory people.

Here is the last kind. I also have one plant that is covered in buds but she won't open up and bloom.

Yippee!! I can see both Lins adorable woodpeckers and Gails awesome Morning Glories(those are too pretty!!..but still not my own..lol...

(Zone 1)

Gail: I can see your beautiful MG's but still can't seen my own or Nancy's pic's! Hopefully tomorrow things will be back to normal!

Gail, something is eating my outdoor plants with holes that look just like that! I have not found any critter yet ... I know it must be a night time diner since nothing is visible during the day ... and I really have gotten into the plants looking closely! I'm assuming it's some sort of worm/caterpillar that is a nocturnal insect.

I have a few little MG's sprouting up in a couple of different places in the yard. I really should pot them up and let them mature to see what they would look like. I know one is from seeds I planted years ago. Last year there was a MG vine growing up to the top of the Schefflera tree in the backyard. There are a few growing through my tree philodendrons and entwined through some miniature azaleas out by the mailbox.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

WOW Gail, those morning glories are glorious!
Like Lin (Lin, we have the same taste *lol*) I really love that striped one too.
As far as what might be eating them, do you have Japanese Beetles down there? They are in season right now in Maine and I kill a handful every day! They look like a beetle with a mirror on them. They are actually kind of pretty but they do awful damage to certain plants.

I have a bunch of pictures to upload and share with everyone but I just haven't had the computer time that I normally do. Jess is in summer rec and has to be there for 8:00 and picked up at 4:00. Once I get home I don't want to be home because we are not smoking still *woo, hoo* so we always pack a picnic supper and go to the beach or do SOMETHING away from the house until about 8:00 and then I'm just so exhausted. I have been really struggling to keep up with my inside plants that I haven't really done ANYTHING with my outside plants at all this summer. Not just that but the lack of rain really is taking it's toll on the garden and I can't water them (no well). I refuse to let my inside plants die and seem to have alot more of them to keep up with this year than in years past because of all the love of my friends here :)

XO
Kim

(Zone 1)

Good morning Miss Kim!

Sounds like y'all are needing the rainfall like us. We have had some much needed rain the past two days but are still more than 6" below where we should be. It rained during the night last night and it's very cloudy out this morning ... should get more rain later today when those east coast and gulf breezes collide and the thunderstorms kick in. This is the time of year when tropical storms begin to take shape out in the Atlantic and down in the Caribbean - news folks are watching a couple of waves out there and tracking them, so down here we may be in for lots of rain in another few weeks or so!

Your picnic supper's on the beach sound so nice! Isn't it relaxing just sitting and looking at the ocean and listening to the waves? We used to walk on the beach every evening during the daylight savings months and it's one of my favorite times to be on the shore. My very favorite time is at sunrise! Nothing like seeing that big ball of orange looking like it's rising right out of the ocean!

I haven't seen any of the Japanese Beetles in years but we have had some sort of little beetle that I've found a few around. The ones I've found have been dead though. When I was out back taking pic's of the woodpeckers yesterday I saw one of the little beetles crawling across the driveway and two young cardinals flew in and one grabbed that little bug up so quick, I'm sure it didn't know what hit him! Must have been hungry birds cause the cardinals usually scatter when I walk out there. We have tons of different kinds of birds always at the feeders or in the trees.

Well, I guess I will head out ... need to go to HD and buy some Orchid Bark and possibly birdseed if they have it. Hope you have a really good day today! Keep up the good work with the not smoking. I know it's hard but with both of you tackling it together, your bodies should be nicotine free before too much longer. Just hang in there and keep on keeping on!

p.s. I didn't think the beetles I've been seeing were the Japanese Beetles when I looked at these images: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=images+of+japanese+beetles&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title The few I've seen around this year don't seem to have the shiny green mirror like back as usual. But then I found this in bug files: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=images+of+japanese+beetles&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title so maybe what I've seen are the JB's. I will have to look at one more closely next time! I have not seen any on the plants, just on the sidewalk or in the driveway. I have rooted through my plants thoroughly and see no sign of any little critters, flying or crawling so whatever is chewing holes in my plants is doing so at night.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

My brugs are being eaten by the same insect. I bought some SEvin dust but afraid to use it because I have a new stray kitten.........starving kitten.........maybe I will keep her in for a day and see if the dust helps in any way.....

(Zone 1)

Oooh Gail ... I wanna see a picture of your new baby kitten! What did you name her/him?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am going to let Cathleen name her since the other two grandchildren got to name the dogs. I will take a picture of this pathetic little kitten. Although he is 3 months old the vet said, he only weighed a little over 2 lbs. He hasn't stopped eating since he got here. I let him sleep with me the last two nights but I didn't get much sleep, so he may have to sleep in another room until he is older and can quit waking me up to play all night long.

Let me go get the camera.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Here he is! Ugly little thing isn't he? But I love him and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right!

OOOOH goodie, I wanted to see this cute little bugger too :)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

At 4:30 this morning I got up and put him in the kitchen with his littler box so I could sleep.......clothes were folded all over and this is what he did!

AWWWW he's beautiful! Look at those brown eyes. Awesome eyes Gail and great markings! He's gonna "round out" once you're done with him and be a fat happy cat! What a heart you have my friend!

Kim

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

He jumps in my lap regardless of what I am trying to do (LOL)
Well, get dressed and off to the grocery store........my daughter said, "Please, Mom, no junk" as they have been visiting friends in HOuston all week long (college 3 friends and all together 15 kids). So Nana has to be a meanie and buy only healthy food.....usually I get to spoil them but since they have been on vacation since Monday they are ready for some good solid food.

Gail, he is the cutest little kitter! Oh, the memories of having a kitten in the house! They can and do get into everything! Looks like he had a wild party while you were sleeping last night!

My husband and I are cat lovers ... we are down to 4 in our household. I don't know that I could handle a kitten again though! Our youngest is eleven and we found her when she was @ ten days old! Her eyes weren't even fully open ... had to bottle feed her every few hours for what seemed like an eternity! But, I do love cats. Dogs too ... sure miss having a canine in the family. Someday when the cats are gone we might get another dog.

Can't wait to hear what Cathleen decides to call that little guy! His coloring is so unique. This is our youngest "Cookie".

Our Cat of Many Colors ... Sweet "Cali"

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

They are beautiful Lin!
Our cat went missing last August. I think a fox must have gotten him. I tried desperately to make him a house cat but he wouldn't have any part of it (we had adopted him from the shelter and he had been a stray). He never wandered far, always stayed in the gardens with me. He loved to garden with me.
I haven't been able to get another cat since. I'm not really an animal person honestly and the 2 chinchillas are enough. With the new house (2 years old) I don't really want hair everywhere or to have a litter box again. I miss him but not the work that went along with it. The kids would love to have another dog but after having to bring 2 to the shelter because I was the only one taking care of them, I refuse to do that again. Not just that but we both work all day and I don't think that is right. Maybe someday after we're retired but not now.

More great morning glory pictures and cute kitties! I'm swamped here (isn't everyone?) but I had a peony open up yesterday that was just so pretty I had to post it here.

I bought this Honey Gold peony through the co-op here on DG last fall. I love it ...... They say they don't generally bloom the first year but this one did!!

I understand Kim. Pets are a lot of work. Like children. We at one time had 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 birds and two tanks full of fish ... a LOT of work. We were down to just 3 cats as all the critters got old and died and then inherited my MIL's two cats which made 5. One of hers died a few years ago and then we inherited my mom's cat. No more! I know I wouldn't want the responsibility if I had to work full time. I try not to be away when my husband is teaching because it makes so much more work for him and he doesn't particularly like to handle it all when I'm away. We have one cat that has to have medication daily which he gives her because she is a big fat cat and I can't hold her still. Our cats are all declawed and indoor cats so when we go on vacation we have to get a house sitter. A couple of them are overweight and when it's vet time for check ups and shots DH has to go along to lift the carriers on two of them! That's a real trip ... taking four cats in carriers to the vet at once ... Meowing in stereo! But, he gives us a little discount for bringing them in all at the same time!

When my mom passed away we inherited her cat. This is "Miss Princess"

Oh my gosh Brenda ... That is a beauty of a Peony! I LOVE Peonies but they won't grow down here! :( That is just so pretty!

(Zone 1)

Last cat picture, promise! This is one we have still living that we inherited from my MIL. We aren't sure of her exact age but we are pretty sure she is at least 20. Sweet cat that we have to keep separate from the others because she is afraid of everything and everybody. Even runs and hides from my DH. I am the only one she will let near her. She really is a sweet girl ... getting very thin and bony in her old age but still such a pretty girl.
