"Angel In The Morning" Merrilee Rush did the original 60's one.
"Kiss an angel good morning
and love her like the devil when you get back home."
I just realized I can't even really respond to this thread - eeeks ok Pixie I won't even go there teehee!
I remember the "One eyed purple people eater" creeping me out when I was very young. Other than that I first song on the radio that I liked and could sing to was of course, I wanna hold your hand. The Beatles were the bomb when I was 6 or 7.
I only know a lot of the oldies because I have bros and sisters that are so much older than me and then I went thru an oldies stage where I'd just listen to 50's 60's radio station.
I can't do country music but I'd listen to southern rock, Marshall Tucker Band, George Thorogood, Allman Bros.
Charlie Pride!
Charlie Daniels!
He's such a clown
Choo Choo Charlie
Love that Good 'n Plenty!
Lol you guys start early!
Gotta get the best stuff in before the kiddos get up! At least, that's how it is in my case.
I am crackin' up - singin to a lot of the songs you've mentioned. But, I can't remember what the first song is that I remember. AAHHH!!!
I think back, and I can't remember the first song either! Guess I was too young at the time ~ ^_^
I know what you mean Candyce. When I am at home on the computer my son is either nagging me to get off or on my lap so that I have to try and look around him to see what I am reading and typing.
A little off topic but it seems this past year my son who is only 6 has become more impatient when I take him shopping. As soon as he gets what he wants he is ready to go! Are you done yet? How many more things are you getting? Hey you said only 2 more!! My girls are content to shop for hours with me.. Sheesh men start early!
My first song was in french.....learned English at 4.
Really, Celeste, Je n'avais aucune idee!
Ha ha Carrie.......I speak nada now. i know my head, eyes, mouth, nose, and very few others!
My first song I remember singing, with my sister in harmony, was about age 4.
If I could, I surely would, stand on that rock, where Moses stood!
And that's not RR RB or Country!

Anybody still have their brownie beanie or uniform? I surely don't. Fun times.
MMMMM...............smores
I still have my Junior GS uniform from 1959! Oh my! I wonder what it might be worth now? Perhaps I should leave it in my "Memories" box for my grandchildren. They can open the box long after I am gone and have a few laughs.
I must admit, I am a sucker for Gordon Lightfoot, Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, John Denver . . . .
But I also love Talking Heads, Crash Test Dummies, etc. Then the 90s came along and I was so busy at grad school, I lost touch with popular music. The other students didn't listen to grundge much - in fact, most preferred old Led Zepplin - and Abba!
Ladies, I love the Celtic Women! That's for now! I also like the Irish Tenors, all of them1
I know what you mean, melly. It seems that the little ones are all about 'what's in it for me?' rather than the hunting and gathering. Ah, where did we go wrong?
I tried Seandor, it was OK, but I didn't send anything!
I always liked Neil Diamond and Carole King
In one of my college dorms-made of concrete block-the girls next door would have their stereo blaring 'Jeremiah was a Bull Frog' lock the door then leave. Oh yeah, the stereo was set on repeat. Whenever I hear that song I chuckle .
I had a neighbor that worked nights, she'd set her alarm for 2 or 3 in the AM, but leave about 11. Wide open! I complained, but it did no good! Her kids watched out their windows for me to come home, then started stomping the floors. I know they did this, because I sneaked home one day, and when they heard the fridge door shut, they started!
I remember ALL those songs!! I'm pretty young, too! 39... I still listen to half of this list even now. I love Hank Williams and Patsy Cline, The Tempations, Aretha Franklin, The Band, Bay City Rollers, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Bruce Springsteen, Bud Powell, Chicago, The Eagles, Earth Wind and Fire, Elton John, Elvis, John Coltrane, Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, Peter, Paul and Mary, Parliament, Glen Miller, Billie Holiday, Queen, Steely Dan, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison and there's a lot more in between those! Well, okay, most don't go as far back as the 50s or 40s, but I know a lot of those songs mentioned! I have no idea how I know them, I just do!
The very first song I remember was "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night. How funny is that Jan?
"Skimmery rinky dinky dink
Skimmery rinky doo"
Somehow, that one is sticking in my head this morning. It's a silly song that I sing to the little ones every now and again. But, I have no idea what the name of it might be.
My DD has a cat named 'Jack' so she just had to send this to me with a note she's not having kids until Jack is long gone.
Uses For Chapstick!
We had this great 10-year-old cat named Jack who just recently died.
Jack was a great cat, and the kids would carry him around and sit on him and nothing ever bothered him. He used to hang out and nap all day long on the mat in our bathroom.
We have three kids, and at the time of this story, they were 4 years old, 3 years old, and 1 year old. The middle one is Eli. Eli really loved Chapstick. LOVED it. He kept asking to use my Chapstick and then would lose it. Finally one day I showed him where in the bathroom I keep my Chapstick and explained he could use it whenever he wanted to, but he needed to put it right back in the drawer after he finished.
That year on Mother's Day, we were having the typical rush around and try to get ready for church with everyone crying and carrying on. My two boys were fighting over the toy in the cereal box. I was trying to nurse my little one at the same time I was putting on my make-up. Everything was a mess, and everyone had long forgotten that this was a wonderful day to honor me and the amazing job that is motherhood.
We finally had the older one and the baby loaded in the car and I was looking for Eli. I searched everywhere and I finally went into the bathroom. There was Eli. He was applying my Chapstick very carefully to Jack's ... rear end. Eli looked right into my eyes and said, "Chapped." Now if you have a cat, you know that he is right -- their little bottoms do look pretty chapped. And, frankly, Jack didn't seem to mind. The only question to ask at that point was whether it was the FIRST time Eli had done that to the cat's behind or the hundredth!?!
And THAT is my favorite Mother's Day moment ever because it reminds us that no matter how hard we try to civilize these glorious little creatures, there will always be that day when you realize they've been using your Chapstick on the cat's butt!!!
Celeste, What a Great story!!
Candyce, that reminds me of Jimmy Durante! (that oughta separate the baby boomers from the children)
Hope you got a good chuckle Dave....I sure did!!
