morning all,
oh my to get back in the swing of things now im exausted lol!!
funny when we went to go see the cuneo museum and the grounds were beautiful but the funniest thing was to see the white geese chasing off the canadian geese i was trying to get a little close to get a picture of this, and betty had told me careful because there mean and hoped they didnt come after us lol
could you have just seen this? lol here is a few pics of the gardens
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #51 visit with friends...
OH! We have a bad thing going here. The Japanese Beetles have invaded. Hundreds of thopusands of them are eating everything in site. We have been fighting them for two weeks and more and more come in. They are stiping whole trees and bushes. I am going out to spray soapy water on the ones low enough. The town 8 mile north is crop dusting the whole town. All my HH and all my MGs are going to be gone but I have to try to keep them off my HOSTAS!!! I am beside myself. HUGS BEV
oh bev how awful!!!! hope you can get rid of them quick do they dont destroy your beautiful plants
Not sure what you are willing to use as a deterrant to the Japanese Beetles, but the "Bag A Bug" thing that John bought at the hardware store is working very well for us. John also said that you might have to use Milky Spore.
Good luck on finding something quickly. He just said that if you decide to try the bags, that you don't put it directly where the flowers and things are, but about 30 yards away from them.
Liz, thanks for the pictures. I love seeing the geese. Man, it is a bunch of them.
Ruby
Thanks alot Ruby but I would have to buy a thousand bags, they are so bad. I will take a pic of the devistation. Terrible. Just hope rthey save the crops. BEV
Morning, OMG Bev..that's more than terrible..not sure what they look like..is this a yearly thing? Was amazed at Judy's they have locust and what a eerie sound they make..remember watching a movie decades ago (mind went blank - can't remember name of actor) anyway the entire story was based on locus coming in and eating the crops-destroying everything in sight..same sound as I remembered hearing in the movie...Judy said they do some damage but not quite as severe as in the movie but still freeky...
Ruby, didn't post last night after girls left, was rather tired and disappointed that Dr.'s appt. got cancelled...so off to bed I went..this morning I left the house at 6:45am and stopped at the greenhouses to purchase 3 doz long stem roses..it's Suzanne and Lenny's 25th Anniversary today, my cousin who also became my SIL, (adore her) it's her 55th birthday and to the day, 10 years older would have been my DH Roger's 65th..so bought him some as well...so it's a trip to grave either late tonight or early tomorrow before work..he was a handsome man, can only imagine how distinguished he'd have looked with silver white hair....he always used to say, 'I won't get bald if you don't get fat' ooops...
I missed that boat...he was ok he'd never get bald..such a thick head of hair...miss the guy...but, sometimes when Paul talks, turns or I see his hands I get glimpses of Roger...and when things don't go his way, I really see Roger..lol.. have that with eldest son Greg as well, dark and same build as his dad, so guess they are always with us in some fashion...enough of my being morbid...
Are you not feeling well Ruby to be up at that time of morning??? As the flower shop this morning they had bundles of glads for sale, almost bought some but house is already full of flowers so passed on it..when is a good time to purchase the glad bulb...this fall or in the spring??
As the greenhouse they had about 3 or 4' Flowering Maples, so very pretty...1/2 price $20.00 so I picked out a few UNTIL she told me they don't winter and I'd have to bring them inside...NOT...you've seen photo's of my indoor plants..lol
Bent down to pick up some baby's breath and greenery for the roses on the bottom shelf where the girl was wrapping the pkgs of long stem roses and there in a box was a mama cat with 5 kittens..almost a blue gray with some white...oooohhhh I so wanted to take one...doubt my 2 would have appreciated it...but so adorable...
Bev, how's 'powder' doing? bet you are all wrapped up in her charm..apple of Scott's eye already right...
Laura, as I said, I'll sing the Happy Birthday song to you again this morning as with the change in hours want to hit the correct day..lol..but that's ok..looking forward to those photo's of grand-daughter..so nice they are visiting with you..have you returned to work as yet, think you don't give yourself enough time to heal..know it's hard not to be working..some firms don't appreciate the fact that people do get ill...
Gillian, are you back home yet..should be shortly right?
Liz, I'm the same, didn't over do but travelling is tiring..so funny, woke myself up this morning as I was dreaming..for some reason I was having my car serviced, and about every five minutes they were coming out to tell me it needed something else and the $$$$ were going up..I must have told them I had a stained glass lamp that had a piece that was not secure so his desk assistant took out her soldering iron to repair, said it would be minimal, but told me it would be about $125.00 and then handed me a box with all the parts of the panel she took apart and said it was too hard to fix...so glad I woke up and didn't have to deal with these issues..isn't it funny what we dream about..know I showed the girls the lovely stained glass lamp I had purchased on my trip, someone asked if my car was good on gas so guess that triggered the dream...
Know Cracker Barrel changes stock several times a year...now I'm sorry I didn't purchase a few more bracelets for my watch..maybe when I go to Frankenmuth they'll still have stock..let's hope..nice to dress up each day with a beaded watch of matching colors..have had many compliments..
Carol, you'll have a hot one today, high temps/high humidity and smog alert issued...left air on at home, animals in and it's cool here in the office...
My thoughts for lunch will be to go to the $$$ Store and pick up a plastic vase to leave on Roger's grave..hate to put flowers in a glass one...this way carekeeper can throw it away when they cut the grass...
Powder is already a spoiled rotten brat but we just love her. Will be so much company for Scotty. HUGS BEV
Bev I am so sorry about the JBs ! What a mess that must be. I am also sorry I kept forgetting to mention Powder. So sweet looking and what a great name! She will be so much company and entertainment for you both!
Starting to take a few secs. to unload so moving us over...
Would help if I told you where...lol

You are probably right Bev. I hope that you aren't left with too much devastation.
Betty, the glads can be planted either spring or fall. If I were you and living in your climate, I would just plant them next spring, pretty early and at least you will get one good showing next year versus maybe planting in the fall and they die before ever blooming. I leave mine in the ground, but you would most likely need to take them up for the winter. They are not too expensive, so if you are like me and love them, just one years show would be okay with me.
I got a bag of 25 last year as a bonus for something else that I ordered and I never put them in the ground. I am hoping that they are still okay in a couple of months when I will be planting them. I also bought 2 bags at the Dollar Store last week with 15 bulbs for $3.50.
I am getting ready to make a pot of corned beef and cabbage. We have been eating all of our meats off the grill this summer and I am ready for something that is cooked on a stove. ha-ha I also need to make a toss salad before my fixings go bad.
I spent time outside a bit earlier cleaning up after dogs and dead heading my butterfly bush. Another outside project I need to do before John leaves later this afternoon to visit some of our friends. I am giving a lot of my houseplants to the lady who lost all of hers a couple of years when one of her friends borrowed her houseplants to decorate a church for a wedding. They left the plants there for a couple of weeks and someone turned the heat back and the plants froze. I am glad to get rid of these which are mainly duplicates of ones that I am keeping. I sat the ones going to her aside a few days ago. I have a lot of plant starts in vases with just water. I don't want to give my vases away, so I need to package the starts someway in order for them to ride to their new home. I will be left with several plus, kind of dingy dirty vases to wash. Oh well, I can start filling them back up with cutting from my plants.
I hope that everyone is having a good day. Take care friends.
Ruby
Apparently we do not have bags of bugs here. I don't know what it is but it does not sound fun.
It is like I view gophers here. All your work up in smoke.
I will come by later, Greg wants us to sit outside and talk in the garden so off I go.
Told my son today that I thought his girlfriend was pregnant and he said yes, so I will have 2 granddaughters coming soon. grrrrr.
Dawn, we need to go over to new thread. ha-ha
Ruby
