She's about to... # 4

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Hello Hotties!! Im back! at least for 2 weeks! lol! then we have to go back to the cabin to work some more :o(

I started trying to catch up on this thread about an hour ago.... then just gave up! lolol! you all have been chatty again!

ok, so what did I miss?

Melissa, how are your new brug babies?

AuntB have you found all your marbles yet?

Peg, whatcha got bloomin?

Becky...LOL @ Rebecca Anne! I Was ALWAYS in trouble... hence the full name of Annmarie! lolol! no Annie, or Ann or Anna.... always Annmarie......hmmmm

where is everyone??

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

AuntB, when Versi Peach blooms, please post a pic. Some special Joyce sent me one and I'm having mini fits to see a bloom.
I have a pink and a red hibiscus, and if anyone wants seeds, I'll be glad to share. Can they be rooted from cuttings? If so yours for the asking.
What is BP? Should I even ask...Could it be another wishful addiction?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Marion, looks like we are all allowed to 'ad lib' here in our thread since all the sistas all are hotties. lol. I love you guys!!!

Becky, we've to team up to beat the odds against anti-bloom on gingers. lol. I've to admit, recently, I was bitten by the 'gingers' bug'. LOL. Oh yes, Milk & Honey brug, is just like its name implied. Put a little bit of honey into milk and stir -- there you'll have the creamy peach color. ^_^

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

oooh! I need a milk & honey! lolol! and a versi peach, how many different brugs are there?! lol! I'm gonna run out of room! LOL!

does anyone have a pix of the ginger? I am pretty new to gardening and havent seen them....

I do believe that hibisuc can be rooted from cuttings :o)

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Annmarie, oooh girlfriend you're on the brink of trouble! Trouble of getting into some other plants that you can't just walk away. lol.

And yes, I've rooted hibiscus successfully in early spring. :0)
Kimbob

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

AuntB your "hot" pink hibiscus is gorgeous. Can it be rooted from cuttings? If so, how? I would like to try rooting from my pink (very light pink) from cuttings and then I'll have some to share.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Kimbob did you root your cutting in water, or root tone and potting soil?
Any advice appreciated.
Faye

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Faye, the cuttings (semi-hardwood cuttings) were easily rooted by just simply stuck into the soil and kept high humidified. I kept mine pot in an area where they received bright light but no direct sunlight in early spring....they took roots that way after a few weeks.

Likes Bonnie has mentioned earlier, it's kinda difficult to nip off those cuttings on hibs. since they blooms at the terminal ends. So for every cuttings we take away, we're losing the potential blooms that will come for the season.

I also feel that there is no reason why we can't root hibs. in the fall when the weather cool down. Personally I haven't done that, but I shall try this year and see how it will turn out.

Thanks Kimbob. I don't think I'll mind taking the cuttings from the back side because it is up against a fence and will not be missed...(much)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I hope I have done this right--if not--oh well! Kaempferia pulchra 'Silver Spot"

My goodness hottie sisters... We are into brugs, Hot Ross hibiscus, ginger, bird of paradie and what we wear outside in the mornings!

Joyce, you are not, repeat not, clothes challenged.

I've got a 30-year-old story involving a hand-made crocheted lined swimsuit, that was a gift, and dumb me getting out after swimming and playing kick ball (soccer) with a bunch of the teenage sons of our friends. To tell it short, the guys and I had a great time playing kick ball, BUT, two days later, someone asked me about my "disappearing swimsuit." Totally unknown to me, after I was swimming, it became "see thru." I was totally embarassed, (what's worse than embarassed??). My kickball buddies are now in their 30s, and they still tease me about that kickball game. I blew up at DH at the time, "why didn't you tell me?" His very low-keyed answer, "No one was complaining." Oh that made me feel better....

Brilliant red face, here. So Joyce, you have nothing to worry about. I doubt you hear about being clothes-challenged 30-years later...

And I can't believe I just told that story on myself. Nite, sisses. Peg

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Kim of pa, some of our sis are asking for a new brug HeLP, cannot do this without your help, hee, hee, we have a secret you hottie ones, cannot tell yet! Clemen

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Forgot to ask, that Pink beauty of mine, closes during the day opens at night, what's wrong with this bruggie, anyone knows?????????Clemen

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Meg, "I didn't do it, Peg did." Peg, "I didn't do it, Merpeg did." Merpeg, "I didn't do it, I think it was Peck." Beck: "Would you quit getting Peck and Beg mixed up? I did NOT do it" (Beck is innocent, at least now!!) :))

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Guys, Mer peg guilty, hee, hee, Clem

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Told you Clemen, not to give that brug too much coffee at night!!! Too funny!

Rofl!!!
Night ladies!

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Clem, at lot of the flowers do that. During the heat, they close up and at evening, you get their best bloom and fragrance. I think the plant is conserving its energy that way, protecting itself. I have read a lot of threads with the hibridizers that they are out at night, with lights on their helmets, to do their hybrid work. So, I don't think anything is wrong with it, it's just being natural... But, we need x-perts here again...

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

peg, LOL@ the swimsuit issue! I was at a BBQ with the Mayor and entire city council, quite a few years ago, was wearing a borrowed swim suit and out in the pool playing volleyball with the city council..... I jumped up out of the water to slam the ball back over the net.... top stayed in the water... :o( I STILL get ribbed about my 'score' and how it shouldnt have counted cause everyone on the other team just stood there and stared! lolol! They tried to call foul....no way was I gonna let them get off with a foul when I had to go to such extreme uncomfortable measures to get that point! lol! did I mention that I now wear ONE PIECE suits only now! lol!

Hey, i want in on the secret!!!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Oneanj, ask Kim!
Thanks Meg, you know mama brug just opens her blooms all day and night so I.m a little thrown off, Clemen

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

So sorry Clemen, thought you knew they bloom at night. Both Dats and Brugs are night bloomers.
My apologies...

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Clem,

Mama brug may be so strong ( and have good genes) she can stay open day and night. But baby brug is still a baby, though a baby that is blooming. So it could be putting a lot of energy into that bloom. I would give it some good nutrients and it should be okay.

Troublemaker, me???? Nite, sweetie. Peg

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

What secret : } I'm just getting back in....

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

WELL... for once in my life... this REBECCA ANNE... did NOT do it.... I'd say go ask Peg.. if she didn't do it.. ask meg.. no? ask merpeg.. since they are all related.. maybe one of them will own up to the truth!!... cause peck.. beck.. and Rebecaa Anne.. is innocent.....wheeeeeee..lol I mean.. anyone that goes around in an invisable swimsuit???

NOW SECRETS???? Go ahead and shoot me now Clem.... I have the hardeset time when someone so rudely mentions a secret.. and doesn't tell...am I laying the guilt trip on thick enough??? hehe... I think the brugs close some in the daytime.. am I right on my reading at least??

Peg... I told you Bonnie will never find all her marbles...LOL I always lost my carkeys.. even right under my nose... still couldn't find them.. now we just leave them in the car!! and TG.. we are in the country.. we don't even lock our house at night... ahhhhh the good ol life

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

maybe troublemaker is heavenscape, hee, hee, or Aunt b, or Oneanj, BECK, OR MEG, oR kimboB, OR KIM of Pa, or Santeelady, or Datzu, or Audrey, OMG who else, or is it me, hahahahahahah, night nght everyone, Clemen

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

to be continued...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Peg meg, mama brugs honest does not close during the day!

Maybe she is out of this world, hahaha

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Clem...

Even though baby brug is still attached to mama, that one stem may be really using up a lot of its power to bloom. Besides, you stay up all night too, sometimes, so maybe it just wants to be up with you. :)).. I would not worry, just make sure the whole plant is getting enough to eat and drink...

But their heritage is night-blooming... and there are a lot of old stories about sleeping under them and some of the old stories even give them mystical powers...even in Greek mythology they are talked about. And many of the Indian tribes use them as "medicine" or as part of their religious ceremonies. So we may be newbie bruggies, but the brugs are not new!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Meg you always learn something new, mama brug is unique alright! Night night sweetie, love ya, Clemen

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Humph!! See how the lil secret keepers.. just say they are going to bed.. aka... the zzzzzzzzzzzz's... yeah.. right.. they are plotting something!! and I wanna KNOW!!..lol
