She's about to... # 4

Santee, CA(Zone 9a)

AuntB,(I'm sorry I don;t know everyone real names yet) My little brug babies were some leftovers from a friend of mine...she ordered too many. I know relax all you hotties...there probably isn't such a thing as too many, but we both have small yards and not much space. I rambled abit on that.

I'm worried about the heat outside ;o( It's in the mid 90s right now and will continue to be for the rest of the week. I'm "glowing" bullets even in the shade. I really don't want to hurt my new brugies. Can I repot them in a 10" pot for now? I have some bigger ones, but they are like 20" pots. I want to buy 3 new pots for my three new brugies. What size?? And can I repot the two I have right now and just keep them in the house during the day and introduce them to the outside world in the evening, like around 6pm when the temp drops to about 80, but there is still sun for another 2 hours.

You all are really helping me, as you know these are my first brugs ;o)

TY ~melissa

Thank you Kimarj I'd love a cutting and AuntB I appreciate you thinking of me. Everyone is so nice on these forums. Have a small yard, but never too small for some of these beautiful plants.

So hot here, wishing for cooler weather and would love some rain. I'm gathering up all my small pots and looking forward to filling them.

Hello everyone. Hope your having a great 4th. Don't eat too much.
I have a question about brugs. I keep reading that some have noids. What is a noid?
Thanks, and have fun and be safe.

Hey Linda Kay!! Noid means no identification.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Thank you all for the info. on brugs. I need all I can get. I'm not sure I know the right questions to ask, that's how much I know about them.
What is a BP? Should I want one? lol probably do, just don't know it yet. In fact when I read this thread and see the pics. I get wantitis about everything I see..
Happy 4th to all you hotties out there.
happgarden....Great Big Thank you....Beautiful plant

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

kimarj and AuntB I will send BP (bird of paradise) Monday. Glad I can share.
I found a BP under the pine tree I forgot about it along with some cannas and dahlia's OH my, I thought I was getting caught up.
Had a wonderful day! Didn't leave the house once and didn't cook anything. gardened all day long. Planted 4 rose bushes, weeded numerous flower beds, worked on the garden house, transplanted, top dressed, even put my clothes on correctly, just had a great day.
DH is a big guy and can fend for himself so he fixed his lunch and dinner...LOL, DH's son, DIL, and cutie GD went to her parents house today, so it was a completely me day.
Tomorrow is a different story....Mom day...going for new glasses, and what ever she wants, then going to the old cemetery and clean and plant. No one takes care of it any more so I am going to take it over....I needed another project....LOL. Started some peonies just for the cemetery. Want to plant some roses and then blubs this fall.

Hope everyone had a great 4th.

Just got back in from watching the fireworks ! Cool!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey Hottie Sis's!!

Just got back from our church picnic... great food... and yes I ate too much...hehe wonderful fellowship... and awesome fireworks!! We had great brisket too... but looks like there is some good food on here too!!

sami...Sorry about your brug cuttings... wish mine weren't so blamed lil... but they will be big some day!! I also have a day dreams...

Kimbob...You have the most awesome blooms!! I too am really interested in the hardy hibiscus... I have several cuttings I am trying to root. I have a "dinnerplate" pink that I just got this year.. and getting one or two blooms at the time... they aren't dinnerplate size yet.. but quite large, and beautiful . I also like the confederate roses... mine are red!

Melissa... I think Bonnie said you want to pot up just a lil bigger each time cause the brugs like a tight root ball..

Bonnie.. is that right??? OK no fighting lol I am too tired, and way to full anyway....

TTYL!!

Mornin Glories... er... I mean Hottie Sis's!!..... EXCEPT...!!... "MOMMIE DEAREST" aka... PEG.. merpeg..errrr I don't answer to Rebecca cept from my dear ol Momma...(lol) reminds me of toooooo many whippings.... or ...Rebecca Anne... you better get in here... I am sure ya'll remember the "drill" with your own given names...hehehehehe.. it's ok... "peggypoo".... I still luv ya!!

OH PEG..... Your Dr Suess looks soooo healthy!! and your babies are coming on.... LOL.. are your lil gravemarkers plastic knives??? Great idea!! I just bought a brand new mini blind at Goodwill for 2.99 and I am going to cut it up into a million gravemarkers.. ahhh.... plant markers I'll have plenty if anyone needs any!! AND... TY for the names list.. that really helps!! cept mine....hehehhe

LOL Melissa.... wouldn't that have been something if you had won this one too?? This is the 4th lil contest I have gotten into, and at least I am getting closer to the bloom date... still dreaming of seeing my own though... Somewhere back up the thread several of the brug "experts" have given us more directions on growing these babies.. I just got started in March when a sweet dger sent me 7 rooted cuttings.. and now I am out of control..hehe ...I read on the forum to water everyday..etc. I was watering waaayyy too much and getting leaf drop.. Annie and Bonnie said "but it and neglect it"... and.. so far.. since I have quit watering everyday.. and just treating them like "normal " plants, mine have perked back up... now.. I need to get them in more sun... most of the brugs want full sun.. cept Bonnie said some of the brugs will sunscald with too much sun.. so it's kinda like trial and error too..... Hope that helps a lil..

TTYL....

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Beck, I just couldn't resist with your name. Lov ya. My babies are loving it outside, even at 98 degrees. Just still no blooms. But I want to show you two pictures from this morning.

Good morning to all hotties sistas. Peg. Those are lovely blooms. For those of us waiting for blooms, they'll come before we know it. :-)

This one of the blooming brug, I'm not sure which.....got to get some java first. lol.

Clemen, your P.B is pretty. I'm raising a hybrid of P.B. x Inspiration (I think), I'll post pic. of the baby seedling as it gets bigger. :-)

Oh...this is Milk & Honey this morning. I've noticed the blooms is bigger and perfect in shape compared to its first flush earlier in the spring. However, the color hasn't changed yet....so stay tuned. ^_^

WOW Hotties, you are always so busy chatting, don't even give me a chance to catch up. Anyway, great idea Meg for trying to keep down our names, love it. So have no time to chat right now, BUT, she is turning PINK, and I hear Kim is the winner, Congrats Kim, which baby brug you want, the one of the left or right?
Ok, gotta go now, Kimbob, love that bloom, Meg I love yur pics too, way to go lady.
OK no longer yellow/green beauty, turning pinkie!

Good Morning Hotties!! How lovely all the blooms : )

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

ROTFL, I'm having an identity crisis. Meg, Peg and merpeg. Could it be multiple personalities?? Never thought about that before...

Kimbob and Clem those are beautiful brug blooms!!

Kimbob, I bought a red Star of Texas hibiscus from Almost Eden this year. Big plant arrived in very good condition. Growing like crazy, but NO blooms...Waaaahhh..

Joyce, don't forget me, please, on the bird of paradise...

I'm back outside. It's weeding time again. I mulched but still, oh well. Peg

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

ROFLMBO! Peg. 'multiple personalities' are for terms those short-sighted people use, lol. And I meant short-sighted kind and nor near-sighted. lol.
I haven't grown them before, but like most blooming plants, are you giving them adequate sunlight?
Here I've a local nursery that maybe able to order some for me (that way I'd save some on postage -- on fugal living here....hehehehehe).

Joyce, please share some tips on the BOP. I've purchased an aorange/red BOP last year, they bloomed well for me (then), but so far, they look kind-a 'puny' at the present.
Kimbob.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh my you hotties have been up and at um this morning. wonderful pictures--brought my babies to see the monitor. Informed them "that" is what you are suppose to do. Blank stare!!! Oh well, will continue talking to them.

Way to go Kim the exotic!!!!!

Thanks for posting the names. It does get a bit confusing trying to keep up with all of them.

Well busy day ahead--promised son I would have all trim work painted in my sewing/craft room so he could continue with his work. Need to get it finished!! Yikes means no yard today--well maybe I can sneak out for a little while later in the day.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Good Day my brug-crazed friends! I'm so enjoying all the pics! Kimbob, can't tell you which brug that is, but I'll still keep you on my Maya list. It's cloudy and not so humid out today, and I should be potting up some herbs, but I stayed up too late and I'm tired. Here's the "hot" pink hardy hibiscus, still haven't walked over there to read the tag.

Thumbnail by AuntB
(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

how pretty! Yeap, gonna add a hibiscus to my yard for sure. How embarrassing being in Florida and not having any.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Clemen, you ARE the Hottie of the Week!!! YAY!!!! It's pinking up!!! Congrats and congrats Kim! Peg thanks for making the name list, I'll refer to it often! Here is a family brug pic, I was so sad, I realized I didn't lug Joyce's Monster White off the deck for the photo..but it had been a long day. It's still a work in progress back there, so don't mind the weeds and clutter...but I got them all together...

Thumbnail by AuntB
Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ahhhh Bonnie! You're so sweet, and I thank you. I haven't seen one of those hardy hib. before. The color is to fall head over heels for! Do tell her name when you have time. AbbisG. Where about in Florida are you? I've serious zonal envies since one can grow
so many more tropicals there than ours.
Kimbob

p.s. Anyone here into gingers? This one too is tender for our zone, imagine my poor back when I haul these giant ginger back and forth in our climate: But I ain't going to give it up. Here is 'Kahilii' hedychium. It's taller than I'm. I guess over six feet tall!

Thumbnail by Lily_love
NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Here's one that would be hardy for you Marion, HOT Ross.

Thumbnail by AuntB
(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Wow I never knew hardy hibs can in such great colors!!! Kimbob my Kahilii is 6 inches ; }
Marion how scandalous....no hibs lol. Thanks y'all for all the congrats. Now I have a ? which one of us in this nutty group goes not have a brug?? I would like to gift this lovely prize to them ^_^

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Lost my post!!! AuntB, I am laughing hysterically about the hibiscus. You aren't just a kidding it would be oh so right for me------Hot Ross!!! Yeap my late husband's name. ROFLMBO!!!! DD just read and I guess we are off to locate!!!! Oh my.

Lily_love, I am about 15 miles south of the Florida/Georgia line between Quincy and Havana. A little to far north for a lot of the tropicals. Does that stop me? Nope.
I am into gingers and if you are parting with that one and aren't to far away might could arrange to get it. I had more in my yard in Gainesville but in the moving process left most. Did dig a Dancing Lady up, threw it into a pot and forgot about.--that was almost 3 year ago. It has been coming up but nothing to talk about, lo and behold this morning I noticed it has tripled in size, blooming with more to come. So much for good care!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh but Kim the exotic, I'm on my way to get one now----HOT ROSS!!!! Just to perfect.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Kim that is SO sweet of you! Kimbob, I thought I wanted to be into gingers, do they make a smaller one?? Marion, I could send you a cutting, or seeds of the "hardy" one, but that would be more embarrassing, "I got this lovely hibiscus from Kansas"... just don't seem right..LOL

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Perfect!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh thanks AuntB, but I need to get my own HOT Ross!! I managed to get the first by myself so I think I can handle this one!!! LOL STill can't beleive the name.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

WOW Marion, that is kinda weird, I had NO idea your DH is Ross! Too funny, see we're all SO in SINC. I bought my Hot Ross from Martindale's Nursery, he's more south from you, I think. But I know, you gotta have a Hot Ross.
