Bird of Paradise...please dmail me who all wanted it because I can't keep up with the list. I am sure I have plenty.

I have one ginger and know nothing about it at all. I got it from a plant exchange. I have it on the east side of the house and I just repotted it. It is growing, anything I am suppose to know? (about giners)....LOL we will exclude all the rest of the topics.

Mom is all back home and tired....fireworks and people kept her up late and then I called bright and early and got her out and about by 8:30. For 84 years old she has a beautiful flower garden. I will have to take pics.

I am out digging in the dirt. Just bought a new weeder and need to see if it works.

Santee, CA(Zone 9a)

Hello Hotties!!

Becky- I know wouldn't that have been great if I won yet another one?? hee hee hee. I got a dmail from the lady sending me my Painted Lady. She should be here in a day or two, we only live about 35-40 mins from each other. I will potting up the two baby brugies that I got from a DG friend this week. I'm still worried about the heat outside. The forcast is now predicting upper 90's for next week.... I think I will let them out in the sun when it's not so brutally hot out. Even my tomato plants are suffering in this heat wave.

Peg- Thank you for the list of names. That will help me so much as I try to catch up reading through this thread ;o)

Okay all you hotties, I'm off to get some gardening down before the unbearable hat arrives tomorrow or Mon.

~melissa ;o)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

First thing in the morning with PJ's and no one about is wonderful.
Sometime I will tell you the story of being caught on top of my greenhouse in my nightgown in the rain on a Friday night. I sure have alot of clothes issues now that I think about it......if DH had only known me better....LOL

AuntB or any other Hottie have any of you planted hardy hibiscus "disco Belle white"? I am planting it now and it has little buds. Says it only get 24" tall but large white flowers? I am also planting Cinnamon Grappa. I have 4 others, which 2 are the same given to me by a friend from her bush.

Merpeg have you ever stumbled upon this site?
http://www.oklahomafood.coop/welcome.php now that I have done this I guess it is ok? I was searching for something else and found this.

Back out we have had cool beautiful weather, suppose to be 90's and humid tomorrow. Summer is here.

Hi hottie sis Becky, here is a picture of 'Milk & Honey' brug when she bloomed back in early spring. I chose this pix to give a different contrast in the surrounding area. It's raining and thundering again outside, I'll log off, bbl.

Oh Happgarden, do tell--sounds like an interesting story to me. I had a neighbor where I used to live that would sunbath on her roof with what nature had given her plus enhancements. How do you explain this to a then 7 year old son?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

This hottie mama has been too busy, but loves her friends, so just say who needs a brug and it will be yours! LOL, Clemen

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I got my first burg about a month ago from a DG member and I'm so afraid I might be doing something wrong. I lost the daydreams and painted lady, but praying vixen makes a comeback. I think I need another Clemen, if you are offering.

Pegi

Brugs like a lot of water, right?? I see a yellow leaf now and then and just know I did something wrong.

Pegi they like a lot of water but not soggy soil. Is the pot too big?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Kimarj my brug is about 20" tall and I do have her in a large pot, about 15" in dia. Should I find a smaller pot for her or will she do ok in the one I have her in? There are a couple leaves sprouting at the bottom which is making me happy. I don't know if I'm giving her enough water and haven't fertilizered her yet. I sure do need some help.

Pegi

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Pegi, it's okay to lose a few leaves, from what I'm learning, I need to neglect them more. lol Oh, goody Pegi gets a plant!!! (Clapping) Marion, I'm with you, I say Joyce needs to tell us her greenhouse roof story...KIM! A caftan, and nothing else?! lol Joyce, I've had a whitish one with pink on it, I didn't plant it in enough sun and it didn't come back this year, I have the big red one and the pink one (robe pic) is Pink Clouds. I got it at Arnolds when I was with you... I put 2 others back cause I wanted the purple pot and couldn't justify 3 hibs and the pot, too! So I had to choose, it was tough! (I DO have my limits, really! lol) and I had the Snowbank Brug and tropical hibiscus, all those coral bells and the herbs one of you girls talked me into and probably a few packs of annuals...LOL I got A bud about to BLOOM on Peach Versi, and I found the little tiny okra on her too! I keep inspecting Maya, I thought she'd be over her anger at me for repotting by now. I'm R&R-ing... Sure glad tomorrow isn't Monday!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Well if your getting new leaves thats a good sign : ) I would watch the water and give her some food. Don't worry one of the more brug seasoned Hotties will be along to help!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well all I can say is, it sure sounds like it might be a good story!!! Baby brugs doing well. Had long discussion (actually I did most of the talking) with them today. Still looking for "Hot Ross" but not giving up now that know one exsists!!! LOL

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Let me find a link for you Marion. Pegi, I'd offer it 1/2 strength fertilizer a couple times a week for a week or 2, you should see more growth, then bump it up to full strength. I think it sounds fine, as long as you are seeing growth, it's probably just hungry. I'll find that link...

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Marion: WARNING - there are so many gorgeous hibs here, Hot Ross is sold out, but you could call and talk to Matt, he is probably working on more..http://www.hibiscusplace.com/html/h.html

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks Kimarj and AuntB, goint to try feeding her and hope she loves me for it. I thought I had lost the vixen cuttiing, but tiny leaves are appearing at the bottom.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, little leaves is great, it's coming back from the roots. Pegi, you are a fusser, aren't you? I am. I think I lost a tiny little Gemini, my only fatality this year. I do think I over-watered it.. I just can't pitch what's left, I'm in denial. na, I'm hopeful I'll see some growth from his little roots..

Santee, CA(Zone 9a)

Clemen- you know me, I'll be happy to have a new baby brugie whenever possible... hee hee hee or even a new Datura ;o) did I spell that right??

~melissa :o)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

(Way to go Melissa!)

Santee, CA(Zone 9a)

You all have got me excited about Brugs now too!! Ya'll are right they are addictive, and mine are all babies!!LOL!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the website. Will definitely check.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Bonnie, to answer your previous question on gingers. There are as many cultivars/types of gingers as there are brugs (?). 'Kahilii' hedychium is a tall one, I purchased the tubers last spring, they were mature and bloomed for me the first year (same height - roughly 5-6 feet). But here is another cultivar, this one so far is only about 3 feet tall. It doesn't shot up like the others, and seem to stay compact in habit. I'm relatively new to these, there are lot more to learn about the genus of this plants, like I'm learning about brugmansias. ^_^

Lily_love do you have the peacocks?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Marion, the peacocks as in a peahen peachick peacocks? Or is that a named cultivar of gingers? LOL.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Kimbob... you girls are getting me confused with the pea-talk...

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Bonnie, one good thing about hedychium as I come to know some of them? They truly goes dormant in the winter, so all leafy growths will die down. At that time, I can dig up some tubers for you if you'd like to try some out.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Howdy.. Hotties..

I have another ginger that gets about 3-4'.. dark green larger leaves and they have never bloomed.. also the lighter smaller green leaved ones.. but I don't know their names.. unless 1 I got at a RU says.."Kathy's ginger" is the real name..I just got into them too.. except the dark green one .. had it maybe 6 yrs. I can't even get blooms on gingers....hehe^_^

Kimbob... that milk and honey looks a lil creamy peach.. is it?? sooo pretty

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)
