Hi elle, You have been busy in the kitchen!

60 feet of beet!!!!!!!! Now do you also pickle feet? Pigs feet I mean?
Now that is something to see, is that a Guiness World record or what?
Love the teapot, but could you hold one of the candles next to it to light it up a bit so we can see that lovely detail?

Beautiful playful arrangements, love the vases.

Love the dasies! Theres so many great ideas on this forum!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Hey Steven have you put anything together lately? I did work in the gardens most of the weekend doing some mulching and propping up the glads. What have you been up to in your gardens?

(Zone 6a)

Hey haighr, I actauly did quite a bit of gardening this week aswell. We just moved a about 3 months ago so all my plants were in pots so this was an exciting week as almost all of them are planted in now! I know this sounds crazy but I'm looking forward to next summer when I'm hoping to have roo to grow some plants like dahlias and zinnas which are great for cutting.
Heres a pic the new garden! Now I'm going to take a look and see what there is to make another arrangment :)

I just whipped this one up! It has Lily 'Starburst', pink easter lily, purple coneflower, coneflower 'sunrise' and perennial sweetpea leaves

Steven you are going to have loads of plants next year! My dahlias are just getting buds so it shouldn't be long now.
Those coneflower sunrise are scrumptious. How are they holding up for you in arrangements? Mine have only been looking good for about 2 days and then they want to croak in the arrangement? That is such a nice contrast with the lily buds. Must tell you that until I discovered this thread I was not much for cutting buds as I was always waiting for them to flower first. Then coming here I discovered the beauty of seeing them in arrangements before flowering and they do add a great accent of interest in the arrangement.
My sweet peas are all leaves, so far I have one blossom, perhaps I should be putting some of the vine to use as well.
Steve and I are headed to Longwood Gardens this weekend and should have lots of posey pics upon our return Sunday. Perhaps you will get even more ideas for you beds from them.

When you are at Longwood Gardens I would really appreciate any pictures of Japanese Iris. I know they won't be blooming when I go in September. Thanks, Mittsy

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I'll try to keep my eye out for them Mittsy. I hope they are marked well. I just looked them up and they look a lot like my siberian iris, so here is one from my garden for you Mittsy until I can find the Japanese.

This is actualy my first time cutting the yellow cone flowers, I got the plants last week on clearence :) I do hope they last longer then a couple days though....I'll keep you posted on that.
Alot of perennial sweetpeas seem to thrive on neglect, I've seen them growing along the highways. Sometimes I think we're just too nice to our plants!
BTW, I love your iris!

Steven

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thanks Steven, please keep me posted on your cones. I don't think I will ever be accused of being too nice, not even to plants LOL!

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Beautiful Siberian thanks for the posting. I bought a daisy labeled Snow Lady from Home depot on clearance two weeks ago. It is blooming, not Snow Lady but Crazy Daisy. I love it! Won't be cutting it as I want to save the seeds.

Fabulous Mittsy. You know I got a fringed shasta daisy a few years ago and it was very much like that with wild, fringy edges. Funny thing is that it blooms every year now, but has completely lost its "edge" and is just a regular looking daisy ? Go figure, will be awaiting to see how yours fares next year as well.
BTW the zinnias are getting close!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

All these beautiful flowers and plates of snacks laying around has brought the critters in. Whoever turned the lights out forgot to take out the trash and here our midnight quest.

Ay, yi, yi! I am certainly glad you were the first one in this morning and I didn't see that. Guess at this point there is not reason to point fingers, but I'll get right on calling the exterminator. In the meantime, somebody better get the infested flowers replaced and quickly and get the food and garbage taken out. Who's turn was it?
Terri, are you paying any attention or have you turned your head on this debacle? Seems to me you have quite a bit invested in this cafe as you designed it so you should really be getting a handle on things!!!

The cafe has been fumigated.

Whew, sure am glad you got a handle on this. Now here are a couple table arrangements. I think this first one should be away from the kitchen as I wouldn't want somebody cooking up my carrots!

Not sure where we should place this one, need to bring it inside. It has the very first zinnia in it Mittsy, can you see it there on the left?

hehehehhe snicker..snicker... I may not have flowers, but got plenty of wood from all the downed trees to play with. Had almost thought about making a skunk. ; )

Glad that problem taken care of and nice new fresh lovely flowers back in. That a really pretty arrangement. Al nice and airy and cherry. Sure enjoyed it this morning.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Oh dear, did you lose a lot of trees Star?

Coffs Harbour, Australia

You did that on purpose to draw me in the cafe didn't you Candee? Primping! Ha! I've been looking in now and then, but been too busy to stop for a chat. (thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)
Nice pics and flowers and , well, interesting critters you have in your neck of the woods Star!
Gulp, gulp, finished my tea, I'm off!

What nobody is stopping by these days, must be busy in the garden or could it be that we ran out of sweet treats. Well if that is the reason let me tempt you with some homemade zucchini bread fresh out of the oven and there is real butter on the table on the other counter.
We got back from Longwood gardens yesterday, it was designed and built by Pierre DuPont and it was spectacular. Steve and I were there for 13 hours and saw most everything including the fireworks over the fountains in the evening. I'll post when I get the photos sorted.
Enjoy the bread there is more awaiting. I took the first bite while I was waiting for some company!

Yummy food!!! Your right, it way to hot to cook. It 110F here today and wil be in the high 80'sF tonight. Appreciate the snack.

Think most of the coutnry here spent the weekend seeing the new moie with batman and the musical Mama Mia. if it wasn't so far to theater and gas so high, then I would have gone to see musical too.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thanks Elle, Mittsy and Star. Nice to have you drop in for some bread. I love the zoo Mittsy, great photo of the tiger. Bet you are having a great visit. We got back from Longwood yesterday, it was 96 but therre was a slight breeze and we had a great time and stayed in the gardens for 13 hours.
Star, we saw the broadway Mama Mia quite a few years ago at the theatre in Washington DC, what a great show! Hope you get to see it later.
It is hot here as well, I was outside weeding while bread was baking so I was still hotter than the oven and then I turned around and broiled fish for dinner? What was I thinking, hungry I guess.

Hi all.
I've never heard of zucchini bread before, but it does look nice in that arrangement Candee!
My first courgettes have started to grow, if I get a good crop you will have to give me the recipe for the bread!
Nice to spend time with the family Mittsy, sounds like you are having fun.
Sorry to hear your temps are so uncomfortable elle and star, stay cool!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Oh my. If you haven't had zuchinni bread before, ya got to make some. When i was in Germany, I was lucky enough to be able to have som egarden space. A real rarity for an American. My landlord she grew german veggies on one half of her land and I grew American. When the crops were ready, we shared.

I grew a bunch of zuchinni and made zuchinni bread from it. Gave her and her family several loves of it and they loved it. I did too. : ) Only thing is it addicting if you like breads as much as I do. I would eat a whole loaf myself. This I do not recommend unless you want to spend the next day sitting in the facilities reading a book.

I saw this ad on tv yesterday. Where they take fresh fruit and make flower arrangements from it. The arrangements and baskets looked cute, but don't think I would trust eating peeled and cut fruit like that and have it shipped.

Does anybody grow carnations in their gardens. I wondering if you have a carnation plant and you cut the blooms off of it, wil it make more carnations, or do you have to wait again til next year. Not the huge tall florist carnations, but maybe they call them the button carnations, the small plants. Anybody happen to know.
