This Stller's Jay is not happy about all the smoke in the air.
Daily Pics Volume 121
Yikes!!! that fire, is getting very close to you Adel, will you be moving out of the area anytime soon? Sure hope everyone will be safe.
great pictures on this thread also. And new birds.
This little Robin was trying hard to scare me of, here he is all puffed up and wing spread, to make himself look bigger.
Oh adel be safe dear!
Nice pics burn and adel!
adelbertcat, it's really scary. Hope you and all creatures are safe.
Great pictures everyone.
Pelle, just fabulous. I'm always impressed by in-flight shots!
Adel, I'm so sorry that you're dealing with fire. Even if you're safe and I hope you are, it's still hard to breathe. Take care.
This is a terrible shot taken too early in the morning, but I'm excited to have a new bird -- a Eurasian Collared Dove -- I think. He was bigger than the White-Wings, lighter in color with a blueish head, black feet, black eyes and a longer tail. It looked like the black collar went all the way around the back of his neck too. My book says that the only state where they are found is Florida, but I've heard from others on this forum that they are in Texas too.
Things look worse than they are at this time. As of now the closest fire is about twenty miles to the west of us. The smoke is irritating, but I'm used to it. I worked in wild land fire suppression (CALFIRE) for 34 years. Last year one of the fires was about 1/2 mile from here.
Thanks for your concern.
That looks like my new dove! Mine didn't have a mate or any friends at all and the White-Winged doves were really mean to him even though he was bigger than they were! Thanks for sharing Wallaby.
Great pics everyone!
nanny I love the Red-bellied Woodpecker!
Elphaba, Nice one of the Carolina Wren!
wallaby, Thats cute about the Doves.
My book says that the only state where they are found is Florida, but I've heard from others on this forum that they are in Texas too
Yep, Collared Dove. They're taking North America by storm, I remember reading recently they had already reached the west coast, too. Just the same as the way they took Europe by storm 60 or 70 years ago - originally, they only occurred in southern Asia.

Pelle I give our resident Common Grackles credit for keeping the Hawks out of my neighborhood. And I am sure the doves appreciate them also.
That sparrow shot is sweet!
Beautiful swans k!
I adore the sparrows. I see them all the time when I am away from my house, some even live at the Garden Centers of the big stores....but I have NEVER had one in my yard.
Gardenpom...we have some at our garden center. One even catches the door open and flies straight to the birdfood aisle. After searching it goes to the door and waits for someone to open it. We also have a mocking bird that keeps the bugs off the plants.
Lol adelbert, I think your Jays put on an act for you!
Swans are such gentle looking birds, not to mention graceful! Nice shots knip.
Elphaba, I hope your Dove finds a mate, they always stay so close to each other. Maybe there is one.
f_chisolm, have you noticed the male House Sparrow feeds the female young, while mom feeds the males? Mine have had two lots now and I always see the male with females, must be a social thing.
I got a pic of the female with a mouthful of insects, she must be on the third lot! I couldn't work out what the bright orange thing was, must be an Rose Sawfly as I have seen one laying eggs on my rose, but I let it, lol. Looks like an Asian Ladybird larvae too, they got to me last year first time. It's the sparrows which eat all the greenfly, I used to have loads of them but never saw many Ladybirds/bugs. They all get eaten now in short time.
no, Wallaby, I never knew that. I thought they all looked the same at that age.
adel that is fantastic shot of your Steller's...and LOL with the Scrub Jays!
