I love that picture of Ornamental Oregano libanoticum. I ordered a new one recently, but I think I would like that one too. I bought Origanum laevigatum 'Herrenhausen', but too small to tell if it is a winner yet. It was on sale.
Love seeing the DL's as mine are just barely starting here. NOID's mostly and nothing as exciting. Love that 'Wedding Band' one. Not sure how I feel about the hot pink one. But I did plant some daring ones for me that I hope bloom this year. I may get bitten by the DL bug and want them all. I use to "hate" glads too until 2 years ago. We planted 3 to 4 hundred last week. Ha.
No idea about that cool looking bug Thom posted.
Anitabryk2, we own a little over 2 1/2 acres but some of it is left wild, and some just maintained with my trusty weed whacker, which BTW needs a work out this week. We started it in 1981 when we bought the property while the house was being planned and built by selective pruning all the native stuff, but we didn't plant the first introduced plants until 1983. We had help with the initial planting, but that didn't include anything but trees and shrubs. No borders or walks. Those we added and enlarged over the years. I did the stream last Oct/Nov.
DH and I have been at it pretty much since, except for a 10 year period when I was not well or off island a great deal running a second business. Those years were just maintenance of what could survive without much work and could take the deer and rabbit invasion. Now since retiring we are at it full time with a deer fence protecting part of the garden and a lot of spraying. We have a lawn mowing service. We put back in a real veggie garden again this year after years without. I am hopeful, but the brassica have been being eaten by something lately.
Now that the planting is done, it is mostly weeding and tweaking. Yikes, I have some orangish lilies where they shouldn't be. Now I know some pink ones will be showing up in Aug in the "Hot beds". I will move them in bloom today. I love shrubs so my garden has many within the beds, thus it is less work as they take up so much space. I like seeing them in the winter rather than just bare ground, plus they give the lilies a good background, except in this case. Off to tweak. Patti

ngam....."Summer Sky" put out many blooms the first year? Got it from Lazy S's a few weeks ago and curious what to expect.
Love the containers, Jo Ann---Patti--great gardens! So nicely planned--my gardens are like whatever seeds next to whatever, there it remains! I noticed a rusty DL right near where wine Jade Star is planted, & I know I should move it but I think I'll wait until DS is ready for some plants! Getting very lazy, lol ! Here is a photo of my drenched veggie garden.
Nice plot of vedgies Robin
David here is a pic from last year. As I remember it had about 8-10 blooms at it's peak. Looks to have a few more this year. The color changes to more rose and deepens and then fades a little. It is in more shade this year thanks to the monarda getting taller so I will see if the color holds up a little better in more shade.
I need to take a plant buying hiatus, atleast for a month...lol. No more hosta library auctions, no more lily auction bids...I'm gonna try...
I just picked up this: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/80844/
I visited a nursery today, this particular nursery was open for 40+ years, closed, someone bought it, and I didn't realize until I saw a pick up truck with new lettering that the nursery had reopened. This tree peony was $10. I swear it's like the peony gods/goddesses are all like, "BUY ME!" lol
Hem, your bug is a Leaf Hopper. Kinda pretty.
Yes, I like the pink and white one. Thanks Celeste. I have to find the name of it. I really like the purples, lavenders and deep pink ones. They should outlaw any more yellow, orange or cream ones! Same with purple clems.
