Many great shots, Celeste. I like you in the buff, Granny, the second canna and Mary Reed. Is your monkshood in bloom now??

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes on the Monkshood....it's the only one that is, I have 3 others!

Some bloom summer, some fall. I have only fall ones so far. I really like them. Nice foliage and the deer leave them alone.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

very nice shots today everyone

DL 'Buttered Popcorn'--it's facing the wrong way :-/

I have no idea what these are, but they keep coming back. So, I know they are a light purple and a perennial...but that's about it...lol.

here's a close up...not sure if these are a Balloon flower, or some tall Campanula...no idea. They reach about 3', give or take.

I think they are called 'Lady Bells'....I have them too.

Yes a Campanula

This is a small flowered DL, not sure of the name...it was a DL rescue...last year it had about 3-4 fans, this year it about doubled, plus some; it's covered in scapes and buds! It's the typical dark maroon/merlot colored with a "black" eye, going into a yellow/chartreusey throat...it's about 3" or so around.

This is by far, so far, the smallest DL I have in my collection; it was a bonus from MJ Meadows (not complaining at all, it's cute!). I can't capture it in the pic, but this little DL, about 2 1/2" or so, is super UBER diamond dusted, looks like glitter! It's a dark red with a darker eye.

DL 'Westbourne's Mountain Home' This was a triple fan bonus from MJ after I won/purchased her '08 intro of 'W's Wild as a Buck!'

MJ always sends a nice bonus.....even if you only buy one DL from her.

Thom, Adenophora bulleyana. patti

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Thanks Patti...as soon as I saw the Adenophora, a light switch went on in the way back recesses of my brain. 'Lady Bells' was ringing a bell too, but couldn't make the direct connection.

Thanks! I wish it would stay upright, it is a tough little bugger. It was weed whacked on more than one occasion by Paul...lol. In his eyes, if it doesn't have a flower on it, it's a weed. Although, he knows DL and Hosta foliage now, and knows what I will say if a weed whacker goes near either :-)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thom, My weed whacker is in need of a good workout. Too many guest coming today to crank it up, but I will send them all off to the beach tomorrow or Sat. and take a spin with it. If I am clever I can con one of them into helping with some pruning of a crab that has gotten too enthusiastic this spring or a tour of the brush with the whacker.

As for weed whacking the wrong plants I even have been know to make a nearly grave error. But most plants don't mind a hair cut once in a while. Or at least that is what I tell my self. Have a great 4th all. No pictures today as I was on the other end of a dust mop yesterday. DH did all the floors and rugs. Took them outside for a day of airing out. We even ran the AC to dry things out a bit. I hear they are getting 40 to 50.00 dollars an hour for house cleaners. Think of all the plants I get to buy! Yippee. Patti

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Have a great forth everybody.
Has anyone seen Pirl?
Is she Lost in the Lilies?
Absent in the Asters?
Deliquint in the Dahlias?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

cute JoAnn!

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

In my DG mind, Pirl is ever present. I see her sort of looking at me, shaking her head at my all to many impulse buys, and sort of just chuckling. Pirl was hanging around on the DL forum, and I believe the Iris forum...I could be wrong.

DG is like the show Charmed for me, except instead of having Piper, Phoebe and Pru/Paige, we have Pirl, Pixie and Pollyk.

Funny thing, the name of the characters father from Charmed...take a guess? I won't tell, I'll wait for someone else to type it...I just find it a little humorous...lol.

Hem, your Bonus looks similar to one of my own seedlings.
I get a lot of red variations. What I really hope for is salmon.

very nice everyone. Andy, that is one of yours? It's beautiful. Once you get a color you like, how do you maintain it? Just by division?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Has anyone ever seen a Corel or orange-pink Clematis?
I want Clems behind the Ligularia and Lilies. I just ought some trellises and am cruizin for Clems, that are a warmer color than rosey pink or pink or blue.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - fantastic color on that, Andy. I'll be over when it's ready for division! Jo Ann, there are many shades of deep pink, mauve, etc. Check out Abundance. Never watched Charmed, though Alyssa Milano has a standing invitation...

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Somehow I knew you would have an answer.
I just didn't want to get into the Victorian soft pastels.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

JoAnn- I've been looking for coral or salmon colored ones also, no luck so far. They did come out with 2 yellows.
Was never into Charmed...ever notice all the girls on there had speech impediments.(lisp, overbite, etc)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Just found two by googling.Neither had a photo.
Clematis.com
I left off of Phenomina TV with Bewitched, after too many long seasons of no story the gimiky nose twitching and special effects I was bored.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Anita, my seedlings started blooming a couple of years ago. I simply plant the favs and give away the others. None of my Tetraploids have gotten large enough to divide except the originals in front of the Clematis vine, I may never touch them for fear of disturbing the Clematis. I start new ones every year, who needs to divide.
Some older Diploids have been divided, what a job after 10 years, lol. The bunch of this one almost filled a wheelbarrow.

OOKK Lily term definition
Tetraploid?
Diploid?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Sorry, Tetraploids have double the chromosomes of diploids (or something like that). Tets tend to be more robust with sturdier flower stems, the flowers are also sturdier (thicker petals). They need help pollinating so I do that by hand.
This is the first of the NEW ones to bloom this year at age 3. Shot this morning. It's pretty enough, no splotches or deformities.

Thumbnail by Sarahskeeper
Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

This is a disappointment from last year. I gave it an extra year to see if it would look better, nope.
Note the discolored side petals, it's also only half as tall as the others. Also taken this morning. I think I know where the discolored genes come from, I will not use that old plant for seeds again.

ge: go to Oake's Daylilies homepage, and check out their information, they break all DL things down very basically so no one is over whelmed! Plus, you might find something their that you like. I would hate to turn someone on to DL's and start a spending spree vicariously through you :-)

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Ok...forgot to post. The fathers name...lol...Victor.

The name of the bar that one of the characters owned on the show was P3...I always laughed when Pixie, Pirl, and Polly would lead me in the direction of an Iris grower, or other such garden assistance. I maybe the only one that got it, but I still chuckle :-)

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

The only Day Lilies I ever bought was Stella D'Oro when they were the newest thing almost 20 years ago. All the rest were started from seed.
I still have some of my Tetra seeds if anyone wants some. They should all be bi-colored or eyed. DM me your mailing address. It's not too late to plant them and still have flowers in their 3rd year.
Andy P

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Andy. Tets sound like the way to go for me and I will check out Oake's.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Jo Ann, please be aware that Oakes is high priced compared to some place. That being said, you need to know they give CLUMPS not one or two fans like most places, so it's worth it to pay more. Instant gratification!!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I am defintly a convert to buying fewer plants but having something to look at in a year. I am in love with Bluestone except for the peanut packing, and since ALL my gardens are new this year I didn't know about "bigger plants" and bought hunderds from Bluston.
Garden Crossings was also recomended and Forest Farm. All these mailorder nurseries pack great and I havn't had any losses, but the Bluston small plants are comming along but not bouncing out of the ground.
Everyone has been so helpful.Thanks
Jo Ann

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Once the little Bluestone plants take off, they look great!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I just went to Oakes SHIIIEU What beauties but for next year. I'm at the end of my money.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's funny, Thom! I didn't know that.
