Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #50

I am glad you all had fun without me in the SP exchange. I missed it but it would have been more stress if I had tried to do it this time. It sure was fun.

Betty Roses blooming yippie tie yai yo.

I killed 2 black widdows today while lifting up blocks to surround my lasagna bed. yuck, it is the 4th I saw so far.

I look carefully now that one went unnoticed after I lifted this wood up and carried it with the spider on it against my body. eeeey quiver.

you girls are good folk here.

Evening all - Just got back from walking 2 miles w/ Mr Murphy. He does not like his gentle leader around his nose but it keeps him from pulling! Oh the puppies - Usually we would get them at 8 weeks but that falls right when we are on vacation so we will have to talk w/ the breeder to see if it's ok if we get her on the sunday we get back - Aug 31st. As for her name, we will name her and unlike with Murphy, I am going to name her based on the litter theme. So I think the breeder is going to go with a "musical" theme so if that's definitely it, we're going to name her 'Bella'. Now the fun part is thinking of her "official" name. Murphy came from the 'sewing' litter but we already had 'Murphy' picked out but we made his official name "Steadmor's Needle Lot of Love". So for this one, I need to come up with a play on words with a musical theme and even 'Bell' in it. I thought of "Belle of the Ball"; Ring My Bell", Saved By the Bell". How about "Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead"? If you have any ideas, please share them!!!

Well, off to bed!

Night all

Just another quick post before heading to bed. The train ride was so long yesterday. It's normally 5 hours but yesterday took 7 hours. We didn't get in till 1 am. Ella slept for a bit at the beginning but then was up for most of the rest. Of course she fell asleep about 30 minutes before the train stopped so was nice and cranky while we were getting everything unloaded.

My SP was Gita. I was really excited to get her because I had just read the movie thread and thought that it would make the perfect gift.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
Jeannine..nice name, Bella...reminds me of Belle from "Beauty and the Beast"..the lovely Disney movie.
I have a musical figurine of Belle.

Dawn...Black widow spider...oh! I would be quivering too...

Gillian.....that is a long time for children...did they keep saying.."are we there yet"..LOL
So looking forward to meeting you and Betty..hope you have a bit of rest today. The weather report looks ok for Friday.

Cheers,
Carol

Morning, it's Canada Day and the sun is shinning...off for breakfastand then out in the garden..Kyle called last night, thank goodness for grandchildren as I can get all the news about everyone..lol..called to give me the gusto on the new vehicle they bought, about their fishing trip in Meaford all weekend and of course about plans for today..he sure doesn't miss much..also told me that he's heavy into deciding about an i-pod that is better than the one he has - it's $289.99 best deal in town as he price checks for weeks lol or the paddle boat is still on the table, difficult decision for an 12 year old..

Bev, how's the knee did the prayers help?

Gillian, that was quite a long trip with 3 children..let's hope they sleep in today..

Dawn, can't those spiders kill you? that's several times you mentioned them, lordy I'd be terrified to be out working in the yard..rattlers here in my region but you rarely see them...I'm shivering just thinking of it..

Well, better feed the animals, will be back on my breaks..

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning Betty,
A walk in the garden sounds lovely..think I'll take my scissors and do the same... I always take scissors to deadhead in the mornings.

Your Kyle is the most amazing young man.. you are fortunate he is so close and caring.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

The prayer worked!!!! Thank you all. I took a conglosamine condroitine last night and no pain and I don't have to hoble arround town today. Several months ago,I had my left shoulder go out just like this and I took almost a whole bottle and haven't been bothered with it since. I just happen to think of them. I will take the rest and be fit as a fiddle. I know the prayers did most of it because it was starting to feel better an hour after I posted. All I needed was the good Lord and you good friends and a little oiling of the joints. Oh I am not fooling myself. I know that someday something will have to be done.because of all the poping and scrunching that goes on but just couldn't go that route right now. Back to the gardens gang!!!! There is no pain. Isn't that wonderful??? Talk later. This is a pretty sunflower. LOVE &HUGS BEV

Thank you girls, did 5 loads of topsoil, wow, water rolling off my forehead, came in for my coolant bandana and the telephone rang, thought it might be Greg asking if I wanted to go boating,he's taking the Lady out today, but it was my brother, he had said some time ago he'd come and metal my back deck roof and put troughs around it..told him not to come today, it's Canada Day, but he says he has time, materials and energy so take him when I can..should look pretty finished..I'm getting there slow but sure..one day when Jeff changes my photo's over to this computer I'll show you what I bought 4 years ago, you'd probably not want to enter let alone live here, and the work I've done/friends and family, wel'll it's just amazing, no wonder I always say I have 'earthly angels' watching over me, because I HAVE!!!

So, not sure how much of the deck needs clearing, I'm sure all of it, yuk, there is a million and one things on it..so off I go...will take photo of now and later today the finished project...

I'm excited!!!

Jeannine 2 miles is fantastic, you'll be fit as a fiddle by fall...we've beautiful trails here for walking or riding, it's just I always have a zillion things to do..maybe if I get up at 3:00 instead of 5:00 I might be able to do it..lol

Off I go..

Happy Canada Day to Betty, Gilli & Carol (did I miss anyone??)

Off to the podiatrist this morning (fun!) I sprained my foot over 3 years ago and for some reason, the area started hurting again about 6 months ago. Plus I have what my primary doc called a 'soft corn' between 2 toes (ouch!). Sorry for the foot details but Iswear, my body is falling apart! My knee has started hurting too like I hyper-extended it or something. %&^$#@* ARGH!!!! Off to work after. will chat later!

Morning!

I wrote about my day yesterday on another thread and feel like my day is done already!

The weekend went fast. Saturday I got some stuff outside done. Sunday I just didn't feel right and even got in another nap. Yesterday we went shopping. We each had our own lists so there was lots to do. Had breakfast out. He got a haircut. I had him drop me at the store where I work and kept the manager company and did a few easy things. Like hold the door open while she took out the uboats. Actually that is a big help.

DH finally showed up. Went home and got the jeep and trailer as he was taking in a motor to get some work done on it he doesn't have the tools for.

Then it was off to wal-mart. They didn't have the pants I wanted in my size. Now it it just a matter of timing when I do get them. Got the soil I wanted. Then it was off to farm and fleet. He got seed for his deer food plot and I got the spray for my tomatoes I needed. No fertilizer so off to menards. But first a thrift store. Alot of junk but some good stuff. Nothing I had to have or was looking for. Then to menards. He got his feritilizer and I got more soil.

Finally we headed home. Stopped at wendys for lunch. Had there salads. I had the chicken ceasar and it was really good. He had the chicken mandarin and said he would order it again.

I am going to compare the soils and find the one I like and go and buy for next year.

HAPPY CANADA DAY LADIES!

Now if I can make a few other comments.

Betty you have already done what I get done in a day. I need to change my ways and fast.

Jeannine Bella is a great name. Those pups are adorable. Someday I will get one. Great on the walk with Murphy.

Oh Gilli what a long trip with and for the kids. Have a great day now.

Liz don;t work to hard and great report you guys got. Things have been pretty normal between me and the boss. I think she has come to her senses on a few things. About time.

Judy you are so pretty in your picture. What a great smile. I can hear you giggling!

Carol love your garden. I want some windows but I usually pass them up because I have Ty with me.

Bev so glad you feel good today. Yes getting older is the pits. Good thing when we are young we don't believe it will happen to us.Thanks for sharing your pictures. Gives me hope that mine will bloom soon. I know some of them are.But I want them all to bloom and not stop!

I have to get going. My day is flying and I have to go to work in a couple of hours.

Hope you have the day you need.
Vicki

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Gardengirl. Will be praying for your healing. Several years ago when I worked in retail I had soft corns in between both my little toes. Suffered forever till a ladie in another store where I went to get shoes told me to cut pieces of foam sponge and put between them and buy one size bigger in shoes. I did and haven't had any more since then. Mine were so bad I had to buy a pair of house slippers from the store where I worked to finish out my day because I just couldn't walk. Try it. You will like it!!! Well have to get ready to go to town. I am going to stop at a nursery and see if they will take some of my baby hostas to raise and sell next spring. Wish me luck so I don't have to throw them away!! HUGS BEV Ves that is why I reseached flowers and when they bloom. I have something blooming all the time except mid winter. Here is another pics of Don Juan

HAPPY CANADA DAY to you...girls of the best/worst thread. Hail to your day.

Looks like climbing blaze. pretty. Don Juan. nice, I used to have one but my x killed it last year the kids said he did not noticed a sprinkler broke.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Bev - The doc (who was a hoot) basically said the same thing. So i need to head to the store to get 'lambs wool' to use between the toe. She said unlike cotton, lambs wool is soft and won't hold moisture. As for my old sprain, it appears I am walking on the side of my foot to compensate for some kind of "spur" on top of each big toe knuckle. So she gave me shoe inserts that lift the sides of my feet so I walk more normal. I have to give up wearing my Crocs and flip flops - WAAAAAA! Acutually, I can wear them but not for any lengths of time. Figures, I just bought a new pair of crocs last week!

Here are the puppies this morning - morning stretches!

So cute...

We'll we're making headway..both Charlene, Amanda and Bernie..amazing, he's not been well of late and he's teaching them the trade..SIL can do most things any man can do..so they are just whizzing away..

I've callouses, can't believe its just 1:00...nearly all my topsoil is done, I even worked on edging the gardens, if I don't watch out each time I edge I gain a foot of garden, there'll be no grass left..

Vicki, you sound as busy as we all are..thank goodness for tomorrow, get to relax..Suzanne called me yesterday asking if they bought all the flooring for their living room/hallway and kitchen could I install it..(with their help of course) did their bedrooms, wow, that'll be hard because they want it done before their new furniture arrives in 2 weeks, hello, I'm going away..so will work evenings to help out...

Dawn, removed some sod and just before dumping there was a large spider, almost croaked..yuk..

One thing about all the sod I'm removing, it's cleaning up the very back mound.Kyle was here visiting this morning and I was telling him that next year I'll get a quote from a landscaping contractor to see how much the river bed behind me would cost to clean up and dig and then perhaps we could all share the cost..that will be next year's project...

Gorgeous day out there, should have been boating rather than working..too late now..lol..

You should see my poor hands..working hands for sure..my load of topsoil is almost gone, tonight I might even be able to move a few plants to it's location...

Jeannine, did he say anything about your walking so many miles..that can't help..maybe you'll have to relax a bit and give it a chance to heal...love the puppies..would love to take one of Sharon's but I've promised myself, NO MORE dogs, only because I have to get someone to stay at the house when away...

Well, better go out and try and finish the soil..
almost done..

Crozet, VA

We are enjoying some beautiful weather today also Betty. The temperature is about 80 I think. I should have taken advantage of the day and done some outside work, but havent as of yet. I went for an early massage then to grocery store and a couple of other stops. Then came here and began reading, so haven't accomplished much since getting home. i am going to preapre a pot of Kielbasa with beans and onions. Everyone here likes it. Yum, yum. I made a big bowl of macaroni salad yesterday and will have some of that to eat also.

I had to write Judy and tell her it is not going to suit me to visit with you folks next week. I hated having to do so, but it isn't a good time for me to be away right now. I promised her that by this time next year, I will have been there for a visit. But.....I am wishing Betty and Liz a wonderful time while visiting with Judy. I know that each of you will have a good time and also have lots of stories to tell us.

I hope that every one else is enjoying their day.

Ruby

Well I've put in a day and a half..did not stop for more than 10 minutes when I made everyone sandwiches..so I'm ready now to soak in the tub, try and soften up those calouses..

But I've accomplished much..all the back gardens are filled with topsoil, ready to plant...I removed a lot of sod where Sailor had done her job and burnt the grass and filled with topsoil..put see down and just watered the area...

Top deck furniture all in place, so much brighter with the ceiling done and also the water troughs (if that's what they are called) lol..

Tomorrow is a long day for my, girls come painting so it's a 17 hr. day..yuk...but weekend is near although I've enough planned that I should be triplets .. lol..

Ceiling done..

2 loads of topsoil all placed, just finished raking this area and seeding and watering..now I'm ready for an evening of relaxation, NOT quite, am working of a project for Judy as a thank you for putting up with me, hours are limited so will have to burn the midnight oil...

Do hope you've enjoyed your day, another few and you will celebrate your 4th of July..am sure many of you have things planned, now that I've shared my Canada Day, am hoping to hear about yours...

Nice rose Bev..I had a Don Juan several years ago. I lost it. I wanted it to grow over the arbour to the Secret garden..but not enough sun there. I f I remember it was a nice velvety red.

Thanks to all for the Happy Canada Day wishes. The weather was perfect today. I spent it outside.
Cut the grass in the Secret garden..dusted the roses...did a bit of whipper snipper trimming. Sat and enjoyed it all several times while taking a break.
I swept out the play house and organized the toys for Gillian's children. They will have lots to occupy themselves.

Well Betty..what a great day for you. The ceiling looks wonderful..so much nicer..and bright.
I can't believe you moved all that soil in one day..you are a wonder woman for sure.

Ruby..your beans and kielbossa sounds yummy..

Hi Vicki..I am happy you like my garden..I put a lot of loving care into it. It is really getting mature now..
My visions years ago have come true.

This is the play house a couple of years ago..it is a little more weathered now..but lots of fun things to play with inside.

Cheers,
Carol

Sounds as if you all kept really busy today, and so did I..had a meeting with a woman concerning doing a painting for a lady who has added a couple of new rooms to her house, so that will be a good project...then I had an arts council meeting tonight. In between I finally got to the grocery....

Happy Canada Day to our buddies up north! Sure hope Gilli has a great vacation, how fun for Carol and Betty, too.

Sharran, do you live in Alaska, not Ky?

Deborah

Victoria Harbour, ON

Welcome Deborah, yes Shar lives in Kentucky but she just made a trip to Alaska to attend a memorial for Carole a DG member who recently passed on...

Glad you found us, nice group of ladies here, caring/loving and compasionate and always willing to meet a new friend..we've met on the 'swaps' so I feel I already know you..lol..

It's early morning, almost ready for work or should I say a day of relaxation as I've not had one since Friday morning..but I've achieved much and am going back to work exhausted..lol..

Don't know if it was because I was overtired, but had dreams all night..one I relived my favorite Uncle Marcel's death and the days that followed, woke myself up and said a prayer, often think the dead ask for them from time to time...

Laura, yep those roses are beauties..going to do more reading from your lovely book if I can only find 10 minutes..glad you are on the mend, how could you not, seeing that grandchild of yours...

Shar, wonder what style of art she wants and will she have something specific she wants painted, that sometimes is more difficult than doing a painting just for the love of it? tell us what you both came up with so we can enjoy the process...you sound as though you had little time as well...

Jeannine, how's the knee?

Better get myself organized..gab when I get to work..

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

carol, the surprises that come out of your yard! love the playhouse
when are you going to meet up with gilli and betty? how fun will that be...

betty, 5 loads of soil??? holy cow and your still standing to talk about it lol wow!
what a difference the celing made i like it alot! looks wonderful, times a ticking and im starting to get sick to my stomache, you know that dreaded first day of school feeling lol

ruby, ohh sorry you wont be able to make it, was looking foward to meeting you, well theres next year... how are you doing otherwise?

jeannine, ouch sounds painful, glad you got some inserts hope they take off some pressure, now look at those cute baby's streaching awwww.

vicki, you were busy with all that running around, are you quite far from all the shopping area's? glad your boss is behaving makes things nice, mine is being the biggest archie bunker gosh we cant believe her just terrible! the things she says its nothing just that control freak comming out,she really needs to retire lol going to be a long 5 year wait!lol

deborah, whacha doing over here for a second i thought i was on the wrong thread lol

laura, glad thing s are good, hurry lets see the fabrics

shar, oh loved all the pictures so scenic and beautiful, found myself giggling away during the slide show.. so did you get the kitties in netural corners lol that was a riot!
omg time is almost here geez but cant think about it yet :)

judy, boss sent me on a wild goose chase, we hide things under our fixtures, were pack rats on displays we use them at later dates for whatever..
she decides she wants this little metal rack to hold some replacement straight razor blade packs so i was digging under the units in clouds of thick dust..
so i knew it would come back to attack me later on lol omg sneezing and sneezing then during lunch she says how about your last half hour lets walk to quisinos its only two blocks..
so i agree omg try 5 she laughed said oh its two long blocks i told her why dont you just push me out in the traffic, wasnt streached at all for a walk so then the air from walking killed me even more then we had to put the air on because i was sniviling so much lol so by the time i got home sore throat was kicking in from dust, so took a big ole shot of whiskey and lots of honey feel ok this morning.....

everyone else have a wonderful day

Starzz, I absolutely love the play house. Gilli's kids will love it too. Your yarden is wonderful. Everything in its place it seems. My plants and beds are a mis-mash of things it seems. We have been at it for going on 4 years now, so maybe in a few more we will realize that we did a wonderful job too.

I am getting ready to go out and water the pots on the decks. I think that we have had enough water recently for the things in the ground. I tend to side tracked whenever I venture out doors though.

I hope that you all will have a great day.

Ruby

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, only 2 loads..lol..it's a sunny/sunny day here although they are calling for rain later this aft.

Ruby, I get sidetracked as well, do need to deadhead many of the plants, just seems there is no time..

Waiting for 10am to call the doctor's office to see when my catscan is again..I'll explain again that I had one not more than 1 month ago..also have to cancel this aft. appt. don't need it now that I spent Thurs. night in emerge...

So now I get to relax for the day..only the day because I teach tonight...

Now I had received an e-mail from Ireland last week from a friends and had the little boy prayer with his dog, so thought it was lovely and posted but I was advised that a former member had posted same and that perhaps it was her photo, so apologies to anyone it may have upset????

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Good morning everyone from the humid south! Been away and since being back home have been dealing with a cranky computer and internet service. OHHHH what a pain! Been mostly lurking but trying to keep up with all the happenings!! Hope everyone is well, or atleast doing better on the way to well. congrats on the new grandbaby and oh my the picture.

Love all the wonderful flowers, gardens etc. Mine just isn't much for color yet but working on it--slowly.

Well have a good day and will drop in again soon I hope.

Victoria Harbour, ON

We've missed you Marion..don't you just feel naked without a computer..lol...

Must be difficult growing flowers/shrubs in such high temps and humidity..so what are you doing to keep busy/busy? Any plants for this your long weekend?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I hate it when I have trouble connecting to the internet. Got so upset last night I just quite. Old BP thing just wasn't worth making go up!!!

Plants you ladies are so lucky to grow in sun needs a little more shade here as the sun can really burn things. My big problem (not really a problem as a matter of re educating myself) is living with a very shaded lot. Out house we lived in for 35 yrs. in Gainesville started out very shaded but as the years (and storms) passed we lost trees thus turning into more sun. So I am digging out all my shade gardening books, thankful I didn't get rid of them, and starting over. Am excited for the first time I can have hostas.

My DD and I will have a rather quiet long weekend. The 4th would have been hubby's birthday so naturally we will go visit a while and take his pin wheel. He never lost his love of pinwheels so we have continued. Will work some in my yard but trying to finish my craft room as I am getting very, very impatient now to set it up.

Hope you are doing better. Need to finish a few emails and then to work on the priming of wood moldings. Have to stop early today as I have a dinner date with GDs!! Oh such fun at this age.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds like fun, now what will you do in your craft room? any preferred craft? How old would DH have been? This month on the 18th my DH would have been 65..just retiring..lol...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

For one, set up all my vaious machines: sewing, sergers and hemmer; my quilting frame, cutting table and a work table for other things as they come along.

Mine had retired in 2000, diagnosised in 2001 and 2004 died. He would be 74--older than me. You know the saying: better to be an old man's darling than a young man's fool! Odd even tho he was older it wasn't something that was ever an issue--he was very young for his age.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Are you planning to do some quilts or general sewing...problem with having so many different interests is that you just don't have time to do them all...I've a few machine embroidery projects I want to do, but it will have to wait till all the woodworking is done..dust and computer machines just don't mix...

Your DH was still a young man..Roger was 47 when he passed on, I often wonder what he would have looked like with white hair, aged and mellowed..

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty,

I wouldn't worry about that boy and dog praying picture, it's all over the web and I don't see any copyrights attached: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=%22boy+and+dog+praying%22&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

Victoria Harbour, ON

And how are you doing today? What is Virginia weather like..what kind of plans do you have for July 4th? Such a big celebration in USA..usually we are seeing many vehicles here in Ontario with USA plates, guess with gas prices rising fewer are travelling..

Thanks about the 'photo' info..didn't even think about it when I posted...will have to be more careful and stick to my garden photo's..lol..
