She's about to....#3

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

All the baby brugs are wrapped in their little paper towels blankets and put in the envelope mailers. Word of warning they will fit in the mail box.

I will get them in the mail tomorrow. If any of them don't look good when you get them let me know, I am holding replacements until I know they have made it. I am kind of new to this.

I was at a parade in Excelsior Springs Saturday and there wasn't ONE float like the one you were showing! Would of made the parade a whole lot better! LOL..

OK ladies, you have me hooked on something I know nothing about. Now I have to plant my new jewels, advice please! any special things I should know? Type of soil, does it grow fast enough so that I need to plant them in a large pot now? Goodness, being dumb about anything is terrible, but at my age,I should be used to it by now.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

That's one nice piece of work, there, anjl ;) The arbor, (me too, Joyce, I don't think it means anything;) lol) Actually, I looked to see how the brugs would go in, and then the DH, nice hubby for bringing smiles from his wife! There are more than a dozen or so like him? lol It's gorgeous Anjl, bet you can't wait to "decorate".
BRUG TALK: Faye, pot them up, like Kim said, not too big of pots, you want a nice "tight" root ball. I'd start the cutting in a 4-6in pot, the same potting mix. Keep it in filtered sun or bright shade until you see growth. Then give it more sun and food. The rooted cutting, I'd put in a 8-in pot, give it some food, and acclimate it to the outdoors in the filitered sun/bright shade, but it will not need to be there more than a day or two, then get it in more sun. I slowly acclimate my P.Beauty to about 8 hours direct sun, this one seems to love it for me. Don't worry about pretty pots, use the black nursery ones, they won't be in these small pots very long. When you notice it's drying out sooner between waterings, check the bottom, if there are roots coming out the holes, it's time to pot up.
The POD: Kimbob, is it starting to turn brown and look more "leathery"? Sometimes, color in pics is deceiving.. I've had a few open pollunated pods on maya and P. Versi, they take a long time. I don't think it's quite ready from the pic..This past Fall when bringing plants in, I found one on Versi, it hung around until this spring, mid May, .. (then, I laid it down outside, somewhere, still haven't found it, and I wanted to share seeds!)
Peg, I haven't FORGOT about the greenhouse, just want them to get really tired of seeing it look so ugly with all the pig weed, etc. getting tall ;) James was a newbie last year, I don't think I'd say he's a newbie anymore, would you Kim's? He's germinated seeds, rooted cuttings, grows gorgeous blooms, too! He was in the hospital recently and we didn't know what happened to him. (he's home recuperating and we were happy to hear from him) I looked for the thread, but I couldn't find it.. anyway, he's obsessed, I mean.... passionate about brugs just like us. I wanted to remind everyone there are threads with valuable info out there, I tend to get wrapped up in 2 or 3 threads and don't "get out" to see what's happening... blooms to be ooohed and aaaaaahed over... there is an active one on mineral defeciencies in brugs right now.. Joyce, Happ, you little brug fairy, you! And Cathy, too. I hope Cathy and I get to meet at the Fall RU. I wanna go look at the bloom pics,..and I'm rambling, gotta get busy here, I AM at work ;) ...Bonnie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh my, this place has been so busy. Good morning everyone.
Clem I say she will open on 9 July.
What do we get if we guess right???
I agree, there are so many rooms and forums here, and we tend to get lost, so if I get lost, just hollar, I will be back.
I got 5 brugs in the mail on saturday, and they look pretty wilted. I got them from ebay!!! Maybe another lesson learned, but it has been so hot here. I was just wondering if I should keep them in water ot plant them? Do I cut them back any. They have nice roots on them. Just no leaves at all. Just a stem.
Please let me know what to do with them. They were not marked, but there is supposed to be a white, a yellow, a pink, and 2 orange.
I hope they make it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Linda Kay

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Linda Kay, I would pot them up and water in with some Super Thrive (vitamins for plants) or something similar mixed in the water. Keep them in shade till they perk up, it'll be okay. Once you can tell they've absorbed the shock, (should just be a couple days).. start getting them in more sun and offer some food. It is getting almost too hot to mail things.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the response. I will pot them up right away.
Linda Kay

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Don't say it's too hot, I have lots of things going out in the mail today!!!
I don't want little crispy critters! My little darlings......
Besides I am claustrophic or however you spell that!
Where is spell check when I need it? The thought of the little darlings in a box in the heat...dang.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

:) Well, Happ, I meant AFTER today... (I saw my buddy at the P.O. today, too!).. lol Here Ye Here Ye: AFTER TODAY IT WILL BE TOO HOT TO MAIL PLANTS. I let my car cool down before I would even put the package in the car. And I'm SURE the USPS people will treat it with the same care and concern! lol

Hellooooo Hotties!!! I am home and my babies are doing fine--I think. HELP!!!!! this newbie dummie needs to know what to do next. Have some little white hairy roots and a couple of them. Oh my, be still my heart!! How many before I pot them? HELP ME HOTTIES!!!!!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

very quiet nittie sis, where is everyone today, too hot for ya? Clemen

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Abiisgranma, I'm around what is wrong? Clemen

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

My babies are putting out roots!! How many before they should go into pots? I told y'all I'm a newbie dummie.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Well, I abbisgm, I'm no expert like some other hotties over here, BUT, I do have about 6 new cuttings I got early May. I put them in pots right away from the start, did not put them in water, and put rooting powder and some sea kelp and vitamim B1, (an advise from Mavie) and guess what, they are all doing beautifull and I one of them has a tiny bud, so if you have them in water, plant them with some sort of good vitamins, they will thrive. I also got a versi peach cutting from someone this week end, put her outside with the same stuff I mentioned, and she has leaves already. SO Hottie girl, what are you waiting for, they root so easily!
So why don't you bet when Pink beauty will open, baby noid brug is waiting for a home. Hope it helps a little untill real expet kicks in. Clemen

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

No need to wait pot em up!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh thanks both of you. Will pot tomorrow. My cuttings had leaves when they came and haven't seem to wilt the least that I can tell. Oh my life is getting exciting now! Stay tuned...will she or won't she make them survive?

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Marion, please take 2 deep breaths, take an aspirin and call us in the morning!

No, dear lady, that sounded mean, but was just silly.

If they have roots, you are way ahead of me right now, pot them up. Most of what I have read they are ready to go with just "nubs." If you have roots, you are well on your way. We need some Xperts here, but I think if they have rooted, it is time to put them in soil. I just don't know to tell you in Florida if you can put them in the ground or in pots.. Oh, wait, you are doing pots, anyway. It they look strong and healthy, and have a good stem, I would pot them up in a 4-6 inch pot in a planting mixture, and water with a very dilute root hormone for a while until you have leaves... then let them grow there until you can see roots at the bottom of the pot and then put them in a bigger pot. That's just what I would do with other plants.

But, I do not know brugs....Xperts needed. Help ya'll.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi Peg, whe have you been? Missed ya sis, Clemen

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Mean? No way! I made a comment today my head was whirling with all the ideas re: fairy gardens, etc. and someone told me to go to bed, put my feet up and worried about my BP. Well do have a BP issue but that wasn't what was causing my head to hurt!!

So thank you Doctor Peg, I will take 2 aspirin and call you in the morning. LOL Gosh, remember the doc telling me that when I had 2 small children at home! Now just how do you do that???

Mine do have roots, a few, and leaves already so tomorrow I will give them a home in pots. Want to try pots for awhile. Need to assess my yard more before putting into the ground.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Off getting her medical degree!! LOL

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Who said mean Marion, we love you....Clem

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Peg told me to take 2 aspirin and call her in the morning. Oh read her post. No she wasn't being mean--I thought it was funny!!! I luvz all you gals too. I am so excited about my brug babies now!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Marion, I am a foreigner, don't take jokes too easily, hahaham glad is a joke now, hottie nuttie one, Clemen

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Understand--no worries. I just laughed about her post and keep going. Well, I am still exhausted from my travels and think I will call it a night. We have a nice slow rain you can hear and it is just telling me to go to bed.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Well Hottie Sis's.. NOW I am MORE confused...lol Some say leave in water till you have LONG roots.. some say pot right away.. some say when you have the white nubies.. pot them up?? Sooo.. I guess it really doesn't matter.. they have to be much tougher that I thought.. Like Annie said... just neglect them??!!

Hey girlies.. it sure is quiet in here... I went to see my Momma in the NH finally this afternoon! It's been over a week since I was a mad woman getting ready for that RU... My Momma has Alzheimers, but TG is a joy to be around... and of course I took after her, and not my Daddy..LOL well sorta kinda...hehe

OK Clem.... you keep asking these hotties to name a date... It's supposed to be MINE!!!!! Maybe they don't know what you are talking about??

OK HOTTIES......LISTEN TO OL BECKY!!!!
Clem is offering us a baby brug if we guess the correct date she opens in full bloom... She has posted the pics of her up above.. the one she calls Momma Brug... now you can either play the game.. guess a date.. or Clem can just mail it to me!!....hehe Come ongirls... this will get the ol blood to pumping to see if you are right or not!!! What color is it Clem.. I forget

TTYL!!
Becky

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh Becky I was headed to bed but just couldn't resist! Sorry, I say she will open on Saturday. How is that?

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Excuse me, I am not allowed to practice medicine without a license..... disclaimer, read the fine print.

Fine print... I am only licensed as a hottie newbie brug owner, LOL, and my babies still do not have roots, that I can see, but I have just planned for when they do.... Marion, I think you have a 2-week start on me, so I am excited about mine, too... Run to check them again.

Clem, you are the sweetest, you know, but I was just teasing Marion about being mean to her. I try my best not to be mean to anyone.

But, the bugs, squirrels, rabbits, cats, slugs, snakes, oppossums, and even a skunk that showed up today better watch out..... Though I am not sure I can outmean a skunk. I might win but I would smell horrible for a week...

And I live in the city...
