merpeg, I got the giant white bird of paradise at Costco and it was like 20, or 25 dollars I don't remember now, but it is huge. If you want a start of the "normal" bird of paradise I can ship you one of those. It is so tuff, sometimes in the winter I forget to water it and it just sits there, when you over water it just sucks it up. It has bloomed for me for years. A friend brought it up from Florida. I have split it several times. I ended up with 3 huge ones and had to just let one freeze which killed me but I just didn't have any room and I hadn't found DG yet and I don't have any gardening buddies that do tropicals.
ee's are another passion. I have 2 that I have had for a couple of years and I bought way too many on a coop on DG this spring.
Happgarden, how do you make that bird of paradise bloom. I've been feeding minie like a nut and NOTHING, she just keeps getting bigger and biger!

Marion, you are a-ok in my book. I talk to mine all the time, they really are good listeners and agreeable, too. I like that plants and work in yard part... I might could even get "jiggy" with that situation! lol Happ!! You DESERVE a vacation to play in the dirt! I'm so happy for you. And really I didn't know you were THAT heavy into tropicals! I knew the brugs, EE's, but the huge white BOP???? Do you plant it in the ground and dig in Fall?? Do you do banana's? I got 2 this year, guess I'll try to save them over this winter, and they are in pots.. I think it was Faye that said she has clay soil and containerizes everything.. What isn't clay here is rock so I'm a potter, too. I do have some nice dirt around the perimeter of my property, so that gets utilized mostly for Hosta. And all I can say when you and Theresa and Jan & I do a Spring nursery fling.... LOOK out Eastern KS!!! Let's rent a couple u-hauls!! Yes, Jan, no plant buying police on any of our stops! We do offer buying logic, like if you were trying to decide on something but couldn't, then we would help you justify your purchase.. buying logic. :) We had so much fun this spring, we'd all 3 drift apart, then pretty soon, we'd all come together unscheduled and show each other our treasures, point to where we got em' and we'd all take off to a different area separately,again.. such a fun day. AuntB - I just got the giant BP and I think I will pot it. The normal BP has been potted for years and years probably 15. I have one banana (suppose to be hardy but afraid to try it), one ginger, one of those tropical vineying things, one of those smelly things with little white flowers (so much for names, brain cells must of gotten to hottie) a bunch of amaryllis, plumerias, cannas, dahlias (dah's are the only thing in the ground) and of course my bruggys. I put all that stuff in pots becauseI by fall I am lazy and can't tell when it is going to frost. I am nuts or what! LOL
I am a "friend" of PG...LOL...meaning I purchased a membership and I haven't even been there this year one time. Their daylilies are in bloom now and I bet it is just a wowzer!
Joyce, (happgardner). I got your/my brug today! I have her in her own pot, and I know she will be very happy. Now if we could just teach everyone how to package and ship like you do, all our plants would be happy upon arrival. It is a very nice cutting, already rooted, and several sprouts and leave still on it! It is a versa peach. I can't wait for her to grow up.

I have done the majority....LOL....lets see (4) Monster White and all the Versi's and it seems to work well for me. Some of the Monster White logs were long and two sprouts started and I cut them in two peices after they had good roots. The small logs seem to work because they have more contact with the soil.

Oh yeah forgot to tell you Hotties what a hottie I was today. I went into to town to Pamida bought some plants on discount and went to the post office, then stopped in a couple of the little junk stores came back home and my DH asked me if there was a reason I had my blouse on wrong side out!!!!
