She's about to....#3

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well I thought it was funny! My cuttings did come with leaves but no roots. I did put them in the peroxide/water as recommended and when I returned home behold little hairy white threads. I can hardly wait to pot them and watch them now. My neighbors do have them growing in the ground but as I stated, I'm trying to redo this yard and not sure where I want them yet. Actually not redo, just add some things--lucky me it was professionally landscaped years ago but had not been taken care of all the time.

Oh well another day. Really off to bed now.

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Nite, Sis's me too. I have to work tomorrow and if I go to bed right now, I will have 5 hours sleep. DG is hurting me as far as work/sleep, but I sure have fun and enjoy all of you.

Hope you have sweet brug dreams. Peg

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OK Marion.. gotta check with Clem.. I don't know the dates that have been picked.. only mine..JULY 3rd.. so nobody can have that one..lol.. BTW... did you have fun on your disney MM trip?? And aint it nice to come home and find your brug babies doing great??

Peg.. how do you do it on 5 hours sleep??

Clem.. you are NOT a foreigner.. how ever you spell that.hehe.. you are my sis!!^_^

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

God morning girls.

Please scroll up. I said the 9th for the full bloom.

I am a new brug owner as well. Thanks to Janlynn. I put my Y cutting in water for a few days and then potted her, I now have leaves about 4 inches tall. I did not have roots, when I planted her, just nubbies.
Picture was taken just a few minutes ago.
it is raining again, for the 2nd day now. We have not had rain here in about 8 months, so we needed it so bad. Now we can have a safe July 4th celebration!!! ^_^
Have a good day hotties..

Cracking me up again, first i get ignored, now everyone wants baby brug? What it is with you nutties,it must be trouble maker becky, haha, gotta go to work, ill catch up later. Now I am more confused, with the dates, its all Beck's fault! Hehe, See ya, Clemen

P.S. Pink beauty is looking pretty good, this week it will be!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Hey everybody! I'm here, just got caught up. I don't know why I haven't been getting this, I get everything else! I'd sure like one of the giant whites! But I'm gonna have to watch my postage costs! It mounts up, and being new to brugs, I want everone I see!
Glad to see everyone's OK!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh you Hotties I am going to have to put in my 2 cents (which is about all I have left anymore) after shopping with AuntB in the spring .....
I have been starting my brugs by laying them on their side in the soil buried about half way up the log.
I start them in the plastic drip trays we buy for under the pots, because I can see how moist the soil is and if there are roots without disturbing the "log". This worked for 4 Monster Whites and 8 Versi Peach.
I haven't lost one cutting even the small little green ones. AuntB sent me cuttings of Maya and I am trying the same thing. Seems to work great for me. No daily water changing, vitamins, and micky muck. I am sure there are probably brugs that won't like this but so far so good.

I posted a picture under June 26. Read the fine print, no guarantees!!!

I do have some in water and they have been in water a long long time and have really long roots but am taking vacation and the goal is getting them potted up. Problem I have with water is you have to keep changing it and I have had some that rotted and got all slimy, smelly, and yucky! I know changing water takes 2 and 1/2 seconds but I forget or think it will be ok one more day.....

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

happ thats quite a pic (may 26),and fits in with my method of benign neglect. I mean after all,in nature,in peru, the brugs dont have a gaggle of hotties to worry over propagation .
All of us need 2 asprin,an ice pac and a brug addiction specialist. STAT!

Hotties, I was too tired for the puter last night. Marion! SO glad you are home and the cuttings behaved well!!! Nice to have you back and hope you can post frequently! How exciting is THAT, nubs AND little rooties! And you were worried! lol
Annie, I'm no specialist dr, but ANY way that works is the right way. LOL, Joyce, I've got a long cutting of Maya laying on it's side in the pot with Momma Maya. I also stuck some in vertically... I've done them both ways. I've also kept an aquarium air stone (with pump attached) in buckets of cuttings to keep them from rotting while rooting. They also root without the air stone. In winter, I never start over with fresh water, only add to it. Joyce I think the brugs I gave you the first time had sat in a bucket of "moss slurry" all summer outside my garage door, I'd forgotten about them almost ALL summer.. they had monster roots on them. Good ol Mother Nature provided enough water for them to survive. So, you can start them with or without water first, or just stick in some "dirt", water in and stand back. I'm finding it easier to root in Spring, but that's just me. I won't stop rooting in Fall, either, I'm passionate about em, remember? Clem, you are not a foreigner, you're home. You got roots (brug?), here too, Girl! You ARE the Hottie of the week, Hon, (we all agree, right?). We're ALL waiting for the bloom announcement... If I have time, I'll try to figure out what day everyone chose... AND you have 2 others budded up and ready too, don't you??? Audrey, so nice to see you, HOW do you get caught up??? lol It's painful when you're just starting brugging... You do want them ALL! Here's another pic of my buds, from a different angle...(helps to keep visually occupied while we wait for Sister Clem's bloom delivery.. lol)

Forgot... Linda Kay!!! Look how much your baby has grown! It has really grown!!! Ah, all shiny and pretty, nice symetrical form..that was only 4 or 5 days ago! Wonderful!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Aunt B, "hottie of the week" hahaha! Clemen

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

AuntB, now you have everybody calling it a "giant" white brug. Isn't it "monster?" :)))

Back to work, just checking in real quick. Peg

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Clem, It's early in the week, I know. But I predict some blooming going on up there this week... I'm getting busy in the ofc today, so as far as I got on your contest is: Most recent... Linda Kay guessed July 9th for a full bloom and Aunt B guessed 3 days on Hottie Annie's New Orleans Lady... phffft! That doesn't even count, that AuntB must not be the sharpest tool in the shed;)! I think you should just throw everyones name in a hat and draw one the day it blooms...????? Happ, I forgot to comment on your current financial situ...Here's my 1.5 cents worth. I believe it was YOUR friend Theresa, that keep shoving plants in my cart... .... Only plant I remember telling you you HAD to get was the Snowbank Brug, $10, there were 2 left, 1 for me and..... 1 for you! (couldn't let you get by without a retort) lol Should we meet down there this fall to exchange brug cuttings and for the midnight madness sale, all plants are 50% off after 11 p.m., bring a flashlight (and Theresa, I'll be holding my own flashlight).. lol Peg, I had a skunk couple visiting my yard last fall, pretty scary!!! They are kind of creepy little kittens.. couple weeks ago, we had a doe, a deer, a female deer (sang it to DD) grazing in the side yard... I hollered (softly) for DD to look and by the time she did, the deer was gone..... I quickly said "What are you looking at me like that for? I saw it, Mel! She looked out again, said, Mom, I don't see anything.... "Well sure, it's gone"... couple days later I was offering a neighbor some iris and she said the deer is hanging around her parked cars, scaring the begeezus out of her company.. lol Others in our neighborhood report seeing her with twin fawns... I live in the "city", too (pop 700). I'm not outside without having my camera close by, that would be cute; the family grazing in front of the hosta in my yard! Just so the keep grazing ON the grass.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Peg, how sweet of you to bring that to my attention. You're such a dear... ROF! Yes, it IS Monster White, not Giant. I'm loosin', honey, the ol blade ain't as sharp as it once be! lol Honestly, I am a bit dislexic(sp?)... I mix stuff up like that ALL the time. My house is a constant state of "comedy central" when I suffer a bad bout of it... Sonic Route 44's turn into 66's... Lieutinant Dan's turn into Captain Dave's... it's senile hiliarity.. every home needs some.. and it's sure intertaining to the kids! Who says an old dull, brug addicted Hottie can't be amusing??? Still have somethin to offer the family unit! LOL

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Sorry haven't posted. The 2 aspirin Peg said take I think I misunderstood and took tylenol PM! LOL

Been up but busy with things I must do before sitting down at the computer!! Will be the downfall of me yet. Oh for the days when my kids were upset I wouldn't touch the thing! No wait, that was no fun.

Brug babies look good. Hottie Sisters, do I need to do anything with my cuttings? They are tall and have leaves growing from several of the nodes. Cat helping me so if this go goofier than normal blame her. Will take picture as soon as I unpack my camera.

Well back to checking my BBs. (baby brugs_)

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Aunt B, can't do that, you all are going to think I cheated, lol! Well, I'll tell you I actually have two baby brugs but I promised my neighbor one, have not seen her lately, so maybe I can pretend that I never offered it to her, she has not been asking for her lately, hehe! Clemen

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am so amazed at how fast she is growing. Everyday, I see another little leaf peeking out, or a new spout!!!
Clem, you gonna post another update on that bloom?
AuntB, I do the same thing, getting things twisted around. Hubby calls it old timers disease! ^_^
Have a good one ladies.
Linda Kay

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Linda Kay and pretty soon you'll get a tiny bud and you are going to be wild about it! You'll see, so exciting, I'll post later when I get home, at work now! Clemen

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Clemen, she's VERY likely to remember when the blooming starts this week.. Marion, you probably needed the extra snooze time, anyway... Cat is very capable to direct you with them cuttings.. I say pot em up, they are ready to grow huge! A lot of it is applying what you already know about plants.. or plant logic. About the only thing you can do to kill them is water too much on a dormant brug in winter, I've done it. But if there is death involved, we have each other, Hotties! We can trade and share our beautiful brugs! Might have to wait a half a season, but that's not very long when you have more than one brug to fuss over. LUNCH!

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

Hey ya'll!!!! Geez, hard to keep up when I hafta pretend that I'm workin cause, after all, I'm at work---you tooo "B" :)

Linda Kay, wowzers---you are doing very good with that baby brug, way to go!!! Do you still have just that one or did you get any more brug cuttings???

later...Jan

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Okay, I figured out why my Brugs are so slow. Annie, you nailed it down. Peru!! I am not threatening them in the right language!! Got to go sharpen up my Quechel (sp)...

No, seriously, am I the only one that has my new ones in the house?? Should I have them outside? I have new leaves on Peach Versi and Pink Beauty and the pink NOID (I've got to give it a better name than that:) But Maya and my "Surprises" are just sitting there, looking like sticks. Should I put them outside even when I don't know if they have rooted?

Got to go, hotty sis's. It's errand time for me. I've got to go to the grocery, bank, post office and will probably not make it past HD just have to see what they have on sale...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I don't have any new cuttings yet, but I have the 5 plants I got from evilbay...
They were suposed to be 3 foot plants, and I got 15 inch wilted sticks. I am cautiously nursing them. They look better today, so in a pot the go. one white, pink, yellow, and 2 orange. If they do well, I will share with you girls.
I also just orderd some off the DG market place, so those should be coming soon, and I can't forget the ones from AuntB, and clem, I think they said they will be mailed out soon.
See what you got us into. LOL
Thanks for getting me hooked, and I will anxiuosly wait for buds!!!
LInda Kay

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Peg, ya gots to teach me some of that Quechel, I have a couple stubborn ones... You aren't the only one, I have two cuttings in a little glass of water/peroxide in my kitchen window. But I think we both should get them outside, it's warmer out there and even if they aren't rooted, once Mother Nature takes over, (except for food and water) they'll start pumping out leaves. Go ahead and pot them up in potting mix. Water them in with Super Thrive (vitamins for plants-Low'es has it here), just a couple-3 drops to a watering can full... I think the super thrive helps with the shock and transition, but you don't HAVE to have it. Pot em up and set them in dappled sun/shade until they recover and start pushing out leaves, then offer them a bit more sun each day, and slowly start offering fertilizer. . . . HD cool, check it out.. let us know if you find some great bargins. I have a pink noid, I call it Amanda's Pink Tree Brug... you can call your noid anything you like, in fact you can call your named brugs anything you like, too as long as you remember their "birth" name. lol. But I agree, NOID doesn't sound very pretty. Jan! Hi girl! In case things get crazier toward the end of the week (all indicators are pointing to most crazy), let's ALL wish our little Independence Day baby, Hottie JanLynn the happiest birthday EVER! Hey, I'm doing the work, here! lol I hope to escape a little early today, gotta find a bait shop. I need some "bait" for my water containers, tired of all the wigglers.. ;) -Bonnie

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Okay, fellow HOTTIES/nutties/newbies/Sis's., I've been whizzing around here on DG this afternoon (nice quiet day in the office, bout time) Just thought I'd better fill ya'll in on some Sizzling scoop that's just too good not to share.... You'll NEVER guess what I read Clemen is thinking of doing with her brug blooms.................. (the dirty!) Yep, I've heard or read somewhere she's going to try hand-pollinating... Go Clemen, Go Clemen.....It's Clemen, gettin in heavy with the blooms! I'm thinkin I need to get heavy with something... ROFLBO Since I'm not sensing a nice, sweet rich man anywhere in the near (or far) future, guess I need to get out my q-tips and see if I can get jiggy with the blooms, too! I wish you ALL the best Clemen, (then you can talk me through it) I don't think it's that tough, just have to know what parts need to be fluffed by the q-tip and it takes 2 different brugs. (possibly a risque post, I hope no one is offended, it's all meant in educational fun)

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Gittin jiggy widdit...; } let the lessons begin!!!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

PEG, GET THEM OUT! GET THEM OUT, What are you waiting for, Jezzzzzzzzzz, hahaha
Aunt B, are you snooping on me, hehe, yeah i want to try that! Will probably be a lot of fun! hehehe

And I just got home and that baby looks good, will post a pic tomorrow though to keep you all nutties intrige, lol.
I have to figure out the betting dates, i forgot already. See you later, gotta go cook, Clemen

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Oops before I forget, Mavie has not been around because she is moving! So with that said, she is all well! Clemen

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooo! I lost my post...guess I previewed it and didn't send. So here goes again, LOL by the time I get it typed over, there will be thirty more for me to read.
Wanted to say thank you again Cathy (only name I know) for being so generous with her brugs. Your postage was mailed today.
Thank you all the other brug newbies here too for all the questions. Please keep them coming, I'm all ears. I'm so proud of my new babies, and already have wantitis, I want, I want, I want. LOL Good thing I'm old enough for my wants not to hurt me. I would love to address each one of you personally, but by the time I read the entire thread, I'm not sure who said what, but I do know I laugh a lot and want to be here and I wish I could meet everyone of you.
Thank you everyone.
I have an old watering can that someday I would like to plant one of my babies in. If this is not a good idea, please let me know. Thanks Faye

Having connection problems with this gadget called a computer so haven't been on much today--afternoon that is. My darling babes are looking real good--thank you very much!!! Oh I can relate to the I wanta, I wanta but instead I say "I'm old enough to know better BUT to young to resist!" Guess I told on myself about will power. LOL

Happy Birthday a few days early JanLynn. It would have been my hubby's birthday also/ still is!! We just celebrate a little different now.

Peg, don't over do it now. Everything here is really coooool===LOL

AuntB, Oh please, if you see a good looking, monied guy on the horizon ask if he has a brother just like him.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Almost forgot---he has to like, no love, nope has to really been into garden also. Then if those qualifications are there--give me a call!! LOL

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Remember to be safe, after you get "jiggy" with it, make sure it is protected with a cover to prevent from other pollination from our buggy jiggy friends. The cheap wedding bags
(that used to hold rice, or petals, or confetti) are the perfect size to cover some blooms. Look for any net-like thing that lets air in, but not other jiggy friends. (This also works on fruit trees that have finally set fruit and irises.) But I have seen people use rubber bands on irises and totally close that bloom after pollination.

Let me tell ya bout the birds and the bees, and the flowers and the trees, and "jigging"! Tee hee!

Do not miss looking at the two new brugs that Gordo has "jigged" and is getting ready to register on his thread. Oh, I think I'm in love ...

Night guys, my 5 hours last night is catching up with me. I need to sleep about 12 now.

Happy nite, Peg

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I am on vacation I am on vacation.....yeah!!! I am not going anywhere, I am playing in my gardens and working on my water garden and the garden room! yeah!!!

dahtzu, love the old watering can, but will you need a really big can opener to get the roots out? I had a pot that had a smaller opening than the pot and planted cannas in it.....after they grew all summer, I had to slice and dice the canna tubers out of the pot that fall and I am not allowed to be around sharp objects! LOL.

AuntB, DH has some huge fashlight that is 9 million candle something or the other, we can shop at the midnight madness and make it look like sunrise...LOL. Biggest problem is it had better be all perennials cause between the ee's (bought a bunch of these guys), brugs (collection is growing quickly), oh yeah just bought a gaint white bird of paradise, regular bird of paradise, calla lilies, canna's, hibiscus, and other sorted tropicals I am going to be in deep dark jungle this winter and I don't have a basement!

Something is eating on my brug leaves. I don't see any cat's but I have seen a few grasshoppers.

AuntB I didn't know you lived in such a large big city of 700....that probably impresses the socks off of cmdelg...LOL..I can see my neighbors off in the distance.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Guys, there is someone in the brug forum giving a baby away too! Go POST NOW! Clemen

Midwest City, OK(Zone 7b)

Okay, I just thought I was going to bed. Happ, dear Happ, bird of paradise...where?? That is also on my list of wants. And I just ordered three new EEs.

Plus got to figure out these brugs. First, I've got to kick them out of the air-conditioning. They may really sulk after that. OMG, being here is too much fun and can really be wantitis.

Really, nite....I truly mean it. I can do one day on 5 hours sleep but not two.... Lov ya, Peg.

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Night night Peg! Sweet dreams, mean it, Iknow what it is not to sleep, take it from someone that does not! Clemen

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)
