DAILY PICS VOL. 120
Great pics guys!
adel, I love the Osprey w/ little ones. Yes looks like a House Finch (male).
Marna, what a wonderful picture of the Cardinal.
What a lovely bird attractant the waterfall is, dragonfly.
f_chisolm, what an enchanting image of the Purple Galinule on the lily pad. Fantastic feet. The shot of the Green heron is so crystal clear.
Great pics nanny and marilynbeth.
Adelbertcat, I love the shots of the Ospreys. What a wonderful bird is the Pelican, whose beak can hold more than his bellycan (not original).
Goldfinch, baby birds that still have the downy tufts around their head always look sagacious.
My juvie Yellow Crowned Night Heron can now fly a bit. It has been dashing into the cat tails as I approach so this is the first pics I have of this bird. Most years I have Little Blues feeding at my pond, but this year the county decided to clear brush near the bayou and destroyed their nest. Some of the "brush" they destroyed were 60 to 70 foot tall Ash trees. We didn't even know they were going to do this until after it was done. I think they plan to channelize the bayou which will destroy most of our wildlife areas.
First picture as it landed in a tree about 300 feet away. Very cropped pic.
goldfinch he is so cute!
trois, nice pics;very sweet!
House Finch? ... Mama Wood Duck??
Yep to both! Not sure what to make of that heron, the pic isn't clear enough, unfortunately.
Resin
Great shots, trois
Oh trois, what a shame the trees were removed! I suppose "they" consider the loss as progress, but my vote would have been for the trees and the wildlife. That's a tragedy. ;(
this year the county decided to clear brush near the bayou and destroyed their nest
Is that legal? It would certainly be illegal here to do work like that in the breeding season.
Resin
Aahh that baby robin is a cutie!
Resin, I am sure the Environmental Protection folks would have protested, and stopped it, had they known. They seem to be working stealth to avoid this problem. Anyway, it's a done deal now. Still, it is amazing that they consider 60 to 70 foot Ash trees brush. On most of these the lowest limb was 30 feet up.
I think the problem has to do with "developers" up stream that claimed it didn't drain fast enough to stop flooding where they wish to build. About 15 miles upstream.
trois
devil's advocate on the ash trees, do you have the ash borer down there yet? We have two Ash trees that size in our front yard and while they have ash yellows, no borers yet thank goodness.
So far, very healthy Ash, American Elm, large oak trees, several kinds.
Human borers seem to be all that bothers them.
Nice pics adel and burn!
Thanks, adelbertcat and burn. Burn your stream must attract so many birds. Lovely
Burn,
Yes, it is a Killdeer!
Marilyn
Sharp pic Holly!
