Guru are they the same just a different name???are you in my zone????have you ever tried planting clems in pots??
My blooms
those are some nice blooms you got there getting impatient to see mine many buds but no flowers yet
Call Debbie - she will know. She's doing a show this weekend but she will have answers.
Thats what I'll do,I'll just wait till Monday to call her...I know she will have a busy weekend..
demstratt, yes i think rouge cardinal and red cardinal are the same. i'll pickup a red cardinal locally here and put it head to head with a rouge cardinal for a test.
yes, have done pots. first year i got into clems, from reading a chalk hill catalog (no photos), i ordered like 25 plants and did not really plan where to put them.so a lot of them went in to containers. really thick ones. they lived in there for 2 years, in the meantime i started putting clems in the ground , got over the fear factor. so we put the container ones in the ground, some BIG roots in there. some of those clems i still have my alipina ororate, markam's pink, gillian blades among them.
i put 8 clems in pots this spring, very tine things to keep an eye on them. not sure if i wil move them in to ground this fall, or bring pots into garage after they go dormant and then pant next spring.
don't know why my zone isn't showing on my id tag..yes i am 5 b, very similar. guess i am a hair warmer in winter than you? we are two weeks behind with 08 and 07 with what is blooming...but it it a true spring and very nice gardening weather, so it should be even more glorious as things start to bloom.
in clems we trust!
Thanks Guru, one guy at the nursery said it's not the same plant, this is funny my friends looks the same as my Rouge Cardinal...
Cute little baby you got there Mona..
Irwells50,nice plants can't wait till all mine bloom!!!
i am picking up a red cardinal tomorrow at a local nursery. they have some for 12.99 , well rooted out so i should get some blooms to compare.
sad to say, that sometimes this happens when it is a propagation that avoids royalties or registrations. but i am not looking at this form this standpoint. no interest in the politics, just if is the same clem.
will keep you posted.
Thanks CGuru...I saw one at a nursery today asked if they knew if was the same, was told no,its different!?!
well, we will know in about 6 to 8 weeks in my estimate. i have some of the tags from a rouge cardinal purchase so i can compare to the tag of the red cardinal and see if they are both from donahues..the nursery i am picking it up at gets their clems from there.
Ohhh good would love to see the difference...was at a nursery today, they had lots of clematis..no names just pink, white & etc...we laughed!!
bought it yesterday, planting it today. have to cut it back severly as it is one of those one stem, 3 feet babies round round a small trellis that make me CRAZY. feel like it is rescue.
I love that Sikorski! And the Blue Light is so pretty, too!
Have been out of town on a little road trip through Kentucky with DH. Didn't see many clematis, but I did see so many pretty gardens and wonderful period homes! A very pretty state for touring this time of year.
So, my SSV clematis arrived just as I was walking out the door, so I unwrapped and planted in pots with Miracle Gro potting soil. Probably a mortal sin to do it that way, but I was rushed and that's all I could do at the time. They have survived these few days and now it's time to find permanent spots for them. Here's what I bought:
1 - Semu (?) substituted for Elsa Spath
1 - Florida Sieboldii
1 - Girenas
1 - Guernsey Cream
1 - John Huxtable
1 - Viola
Not a very exciting collection, I guess, but it appeared that you all raided Debbie's inventory before I got to it and so many were sold out! I do have a few other 'No Ids' from years past blooming in the garden very nicely, so I guess I'm not a total klutz with clematis. I am encouraged by all your clem chatter and enabling, too!
Is it too late to ask for trellises for Mothers' Day?!?
Good choices T.
WOW!!!Did it flood??heard Texas was getting lots of rain!
We had 4" yesterday, and it's raining now. I'm sure in August I'll look back and wonder what I was complaining about!
Yes once those water bills come in...my sis lives across from a creek we tell her its lake front property!!!
Did all your plants make it???your lucky you don't have to dig up bulbs, here we do or they're gonners!!
So far so good. If I had to dig up bulbs, I just wouldn't have any.
LOL...Thats what I say every year...some I just give away...
I plant summer bulbs every year on the long weekend in may and then on rememberance day I remember to pull them all up its a good way to contemplate about the day and get everything ready for winter DH is off that day
Good idea, might have to remember to do mine b/f fall!!don't plant most of my tender bulbs till June...sometimes we still can get frost :(
I just placed another order- couldn't let June arrive and get the site shut down for summer.
