Yay!, just got notice from Click n Ship, My clematis from Debbie is on Their way!
My blooms
CG - I don't know who was asking about the photos, but I'd love to see your pictures of all three of those.
Diamond - what did you order?
since they are not all from silver star, i will defer. but i will be posting a lot of photos as my bloom season starts up in a couple of weeks. all 09 photos.
CG - We'll look forward to seeing them. It's interesting how you can follow the "first blooms" photos from South to North as the season starts. It must be frustrating to see lots of lovely blooms being posted when it's still blustery cold outside in some areas.
The color on Westerplatte is wonderful. What a beautiful setting for your home! The trees are so nice this time of year with the new leaves.
Beautiful Kitty...love those pots...do they stay in there all winter???Guru its the Guernsey one I think..I would like to see the others too!!!
Hey Dan tell us what ones your ordered, post pics.too!!!
Loretta, I ordered these from Silver Star. Pictures on her site.

Ashva
Barbara Harrington
Bourbon
Lady Betty Belfour
Prince Charles
Princess Diane
CG - I LOVE the GC growing up the tree trunk. I've read all the pros and cons about planting clems under trees and I intend do it anyway - any tips for success?
Guru, that is beautiful. Great combo. Do they both bloom the same amount of time or does one fade before the other? What about height?
You must have a lovely garden. Do you have pictures from a wide shot, not just close ups?
Kathy
prince charles and etoile rose bloom at the same time, for quite awhile. i will be posting a lot of wide and close shots for 09 for all the clematis. thanks for the comment.
Guru you had a white one by a stripped pink one, what was that one???
Good choices Dan..I have 4 Princess Diana and one Prince Charles..you'll love them, she blooms till frost..
Now post the umbrella trellis'es.mocatmom wants her hubby to see them..shes gonna keep him busy!!!LOL...
Thanks for the reminder re: umbrella trellises (and any others), Demstratt. I need to keep him busy so he doesn't try to help me "weed"....what a disaster! Shihtzumom - Good morning! It's raining again today and that always puts me in a great mood!
My order shipped today but Deb and I talked last night and we know I will get Prince Charles and another Huldine. I'm going with some #2s this year for the big flower. She's going to decide for me. I can't recall which one she has but she only had 4 of them and she said it was harder for her to grow for some reason and wants me to try it. Claire De Lune, I believe. Also Countess of Lovelace was recommended. I'll let her pic and I just pay the bill. There's something about my rich soil from the 1910 house that makes it very rich.

I just finished giving my order today can't wait to get mine...I thought that one up on your railing was Prince Charles...what is that one???
Prince Charles is blueish. I had seen pictures someone posted and it appeared darker blue than the website I viewed but it's the difference in photos so not sure which blue it will be. It's nice to have any blue flower.
Yes P.C is blue yours looks blue to me,the one on the railing going down the steps...
Yoohooo ...Dan we need those trellis pics...we gotta get them for mocatmom hubby, she needs to keep him busy!^_^...

Here's a couple links for trellis's
Pictures to follow
there you are Dan - you haven't replied to your box of begonia...........who were they? dmail me.
have you had success with the 1 inch poly tubing and clem sgrowin gon them? i think this is ingenious for structure for clems to go higher than a trellis. have never grown clems on a 1 inch tube before so curious as to how they like it.
Last one, Umbrella syle
Copper tubing is real easy to work with and solders real easy. You could also use epoxy if you didn't want to solder. Any part that needs a bend use what they call refridgerator tubing and it comes in all sizes and is easily bent. It actually comes in a roll and you really only have to open up the bend to suite your needs.
First time with the poly tube, so we will see. It's actually pretty strong so I think it's going to work just fine. Might want to rough it up a little with sand paper so the plants don't slide on it. I'm training my climbing roses on it this year. The rose is Coral Dawn and the clematis on the one trellis is Jackmanni, the clematis on the other side bit the dust so I will be putting one of Debbies from Silver Star on the other trellis. I haven't made up my mind just yet which one's going there.
maybe cover the tubing with chicken wire so they have some thing to grab and are not all wound in one spot?
I'll be tying my rose to the poly and clematis can use that to grab, hopefully!
good point with the rose for a living trellis. that will work. if i did some thign like that with no rose i could do the chicken wire or kennel fence around the tubing.
roses could some in handy though!
Never know until you try. Time to play. I wanted to somehow connect the two trellis's I had but had no Idea how I was going to do it and make it look decent. I put in a sprinkler system a few years ago and the poly was left over, and sitting close to the trellis. So that's when I got my idea to use it. I have no Idea if it will be good or not, but I'm willing to give it a try. It sure is easy enough. I hope my climbers can give me some long canes to tie to it.
good luck and keep us posted with pictures.
You bet!
I just had a great conversation with Debbie and now have a much better understanding of the age and growing conditions of her plant stock. Since we had discussed the potential age earlier on the forum, I thought I'd share the info here. Debbie said that she purchases starts for her cultivars from places like Donahue's and many others, and then she continues to grow them out for another 1-1/2 to 2 years. She doesn't know the age of the starts, so she doesn't know an exact age for her plants... she just knows that she has continued from the starts for another 1-1/2 to 2 years. The starts sound to be the same as the liners that Donahue's sends to retail customers, and Kathy at Donahue's had told me the liners they sent were 2 years old. So, if Kathy's info was correct, that would make ClematisGuru's estimate of the cumulative age of Debbie's plants correct as well. Another key to Debbie's gorgeous, full-rooted plants is that she grows them outdoors rather than in a greenhouse and she is meticulous about keeping them hard pruned during the development stage. All the energy is going to root production rather than to supporting top foliage or blooms. It's great to know that these plants have really been hardened off prior to shipping. =)
