My blooms

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

I'll have to remember that...not highjacking at all, show all your clematis...gives me a excuse to order more!!!^_^ ..

Baton Rouge, LA

Thanks for the info, Kittymom. Unfortunately, we can only grow columbine as an early spring plant down here. It typically dies out by early May. Your clems are beautiful... thanks for sharing!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Kitty does you columbine spread??

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Well, I don't know, this is only my second year for it. It does seem to have come back much thicker than last year.

I had never grown it before. I didn't think I could. My bleeding heart is kind of like Blissful's, it dies out by late June, but comes right back in the spring.

Demstratt, my sister-in-law lives in Hudson, OH (just outside Cleveland) and her columbine does self sow and spread beautifully. She gets quite a full show every year. I think her weather is much like yours... she said it didn't change much when they moved from Midland (MI) to Hudson.

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Mine spreads way toooo much...made 4 out of them and looks like I have to pull some out..I know where Midland is used to do antique shows there!

Kitty give them lots of room, they will give you lots of babies, then no more co-ops for you..LOL I love reading all you buy...you must have lots of land...me just a city lot.but I do load it up!!!

It's a great morning in the garden - the Crystal Fountain is blooming, the Florida Sieboldii has jumped to her host tree, and rain is in the forecast - a rare blessing in this area. I have an order pending with Debbie and I'm thinking about amending it to include a good white clem to backdrop a Cornelia - it would highlight a dark brown wooden fence in a far corner of the garden. Any suggestions?

Delaware, OH

i am partial to marie boisselot, but hudine may establish easier. not sure iof your zone's best whites however.
also if you like the exotic consider alba luxurians, but not sure silver star has that one.

Baton Rouge, LA

Both Huldine and Alba Luxurians were highly recommended by ACS and ICS for hot climates. Either would be a great choice.

Delaware, OH

here is alba luxurians from last year. i love the clem. it is so unique.

here is a better photo of alba luxurians. the center is very tiny and almost black in color.

Funny, considering the name of the thread. if you enlarge the alba luxurians photo above there is a silver star shipping box, unopened on my porch!
coincidenky for sure, but a good one!

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

That's great GURU! Great addition.

Driftwood, TX(Zone 8b)

CG-what a wonderful coincidence! Re: the alba luxurians - I'll check to see if she carries it. The small, blackish eye would be intriguing. Shihtzumom recommended Huldine or John Huxtable as well, and I know I want one of those. As luck would have it, I REALLY need two more varieties to round out that order!

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Both are great choices for white. I really love the large flowers. I've not gotten into the smaller flowers yet but Debbie really likes those.

Driftwood, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay - it's definitely John Huxtable, but I need one more to order. Alba Luxurians is out of stock, but Minuet just showed back up as being "in stock" - I'm tempted. Any thoughts on that one?

Here is a root ball received from 2007. Amazing root system

This is such an amazing root system. I asked her last night how old these plants are and she said about 2-3 years. Certainly not 4-5.

Okay, Shihtzu - that's Minuet in your photo - you're holding out on me. You have very different growing condition than I do, but what do you think of the variety?

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

In looking through my pictures I found this one, had to post and it's off topic, but I started the thread so I guess it's ok. This is my boys, mother, my husband (retired chief of police and a dear man) and my stepdad who passed away form bone cancer Feb 24.
This was taken Nov 4 2008 for Mark's birthday (the youngest in the blue shirt)

Deb has so many, I don't know what to recommend. As for color I can't imagine not having Barbara H- my first post here. John H is another must have.

Going to get mom groceries and get her something from the drug store. Need to get outside and enjoy the day before work tomorrow.

Dan I sure hope you get your plants from that coop.

Driftwood, TX(Zone 8b)

Barbara H. is already "in the stable", but I agree.

I'm so sorry to hear about your step-father. I hope your mother is doing well and is dealing with her loss in a positive way, but it must be a very difficult time for her; please offer her my condolences.

Your family is lovely! My son (only child) is currently in Iraq and I'm counting the days until he can come home on leave in July.

Baton Rouge, LA

Mocat, how difficult it must be to see your only child heading toward harm's way. Families like yours have our prayers, respect, and thanks every day. May all go well for him.

Baton Rouge, LA

SM, you said above that SS roots are 2-3 years old and not 4-5 years. How does she get the roots to grow so much in two years? ClematisGuru had posted in another thread about how slow her roots had grown... so does SS use an artificial means to improve growth or is there a natural method to get such dramatic results in such a short time?

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Such a nice family Kathy...you never answered my ???is that Prince Charles on your porch railing???Dan is out $70.00 on the begonia co-op...wanted to make that clear,it was not one of yours..I asked him to put his trellises on here...they are wonderful, saw them in person...

Mocatmom....I know this July you sure will be happy!!..you must be very proud of him as know we are of all our guys & gals..

Guru you had a really white one, what was that one..can you post a picture???since we lost our other over 6000 thread can't go back and look :(thats sad)I need a really white one...haha 3 flowers on my Princess Diana..but see's loaded with buds!!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

BG...Go to Debbies'site & look,please!!!or call her shes a wonderful person..

Baton Rouge, LA

Demstratt, I've purchased from SS and know that the clems are great. I already posted a review for them. But, in my review, I included info I had read elsewhere on the forum regarding the age of SS plants, and so I'd need to correct that on my review if the info is incorrect. Does the SS site mention the age of the plants at shipping?

Toledo, OH(Zone 5b)

Whatever she uses I hope she keeps it up. Trade secrets you know. I don't think I have ever heard of a complaint with Debbie or her plants!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Ask Debbie - all I know is she's the only company I buy from!!!

Toledo, OH(Zone 5b)

So, do you want some trellis links? I'll get the links in a little while and post. Some like copper, some don't. I'll provide some links and you can choose yourself.

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Yes Dan do that and show a picture here!!!I love the grouping of the 3 you have in your front yard...

Driftwood, TX(Zone 8b)

The best place to obtain accurate information is always the source. If you'd give Debbie a call and explain that you want to include only accurate information in your review(s), I'm certain she would be happy to give you specifics. Information from anyone else is merely based on personal comparisons, experience specific to their garden/locale, and the varieties they obtain and grow. We would like to keep this thread at a conversational level, but detailed data should always be obtained from the source if you can manage to speak with the owner/principal of the company. I think Debbie has always been available to discuss her clems when she's not overwhelmed with orders.

Baton Rouge, LA

Mocat, I agree that getting info from the source is best... rather than assuming. I already sent an email to Debbie asking. I want to make sure my review only contains factual information.

Driftwood, TX(Zone 8b)

Diamond123 -YES! Please post some trellis links. My husband is getting ready to build and install two large copper trellises on the patio and along a stone walkway near the house. I need him to construct some rustic wooden ones along one section of the fenceline and several free-standing structures all through the garden. HE has a lot of work to do! Any and all trellis ideas would be greatly appreciated. Anne

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Great advice mocatmom!!

Driftwood, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Dem. Just expanding on yours. How's the weather up there?

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Weathers beautiful, bet in TX.its hot...your poor hubby is sure gonna be busy...does he like doing that stuff???I have 3 I bought a few years ago, once my clematis start climbing it really looks good..I got a idea from Dan about putting a pot on top and plant a few plants in there..

Driftwood, TX(Zone 8b)

Actually, it's a good day down here. It's overcast and promising rain, so I'm a happy camper. Temps should stay in the 80's - too hot for me, but better than the 90's we had last week.

Yes, he loves projects and that suits me perfectly. He just finished a huge planter for me - 6'x3'x3' - and that will allow me to bring a mannerly climbing rose and clem partner onto the patio area. I kept telling him to put casters on it, but noooo....he didn't think he needed to do that.....

Delaware, OH

not sure if the photo of the white you are referirng to was marie b, guernsey cream or shirayakihime. do you kn ow, so i don't bore everyone with all of them.
