(packing up - moving to new thread)! LOL!
My blooms
I have everything boxed up and ready to go. Calling the moving van now!
OK. Thanks. I will make some Tabs for the Clematis pairings for easy reference here (although I was hoping for that info in a Sticky (hint))and look for the Howell book on pairings. The title seems familiar so thanks for the tip on that.
Now, where is the new thread?? I want to continue with my lurking! t.
Lurkers (and participants) welcome at First Order for 2009 Silver Star - come on over, Tabasco!
OK Thanks. Here's the Link to the New Discussion Thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/982649/
I think this ones still open too,is it Kathy???
Yes it is open
Good, just did'nt want to lose those pretty pictures!!or ideas...
No more bloomers???
mine are small babies from last year so they are just starting to have a few buds I dont even know what they are since I got them on sale for 69 cents lol
Scicciarella, if you bought clems for 69 cents and have some buds, you're our new hero. Signed, Not Mocatmom
I got four flats of plant at the end of the season all of them at 69 cents 7 of them happen to be clematis which is why I got them all to start with and also in those pants there was coneflowers, liatris, some foxtails, lupins, gallardia, shasta daisies and some that I have no idea but I planted them anyway and when they bloom if I cant figure out what they are I will post them I recognized enough of the plants that I knew it was worth buying the flats
cool scissy. love bargains....maybe some delphiniums in there?
ejoy your treasure chest and keep us posted.
yes four of them two blue and two of the light purple color those I know since the dead flowers were still attached and I cut the stems and got one more stem of the blue, also had a few perennial poppies but only three made it out of 8 or 9 but thats ok I seeded some in january will be putting them out in a couple of weeks mixed colors
I also like buying from veseys the are on Prince edward island and at the end of each set like late spring, late summer and late fall they get rid of bulbs and plants at really cheap prices so I get like three oriental lillies for 2.50 or 4 hostas for 7 dollars stuff like that which is great
sounds like garden paradise up there! how is your spring progressing sciccy?
well since I found last year that there was no spring bulbs at all I planted some last fall the dafs are just about done the tulips are about to open and the alliums are growing heads, I still have lots of work to do cleaning beds mulching planting etcc...... and still lots of rocks to move and part of wall to build etc..... so many things not enough daylight
Mona.....no clematis blooming yet???
(In disguise - hiding from Demstratt)...
I was just looking at Debbie/Silver Star's listings to check out the Hagley Hybrid CG was talking about, and I also noticed Ivan Olsson. I haven't heard that one discussed - does anyone have this one in their garden?
i just put ivan o. in. next to otto froebel. they will be good friends.
hagley also is sold as "pink chiffon" in some areas and is one of the mainstays for partial shade, beautiful coloring with an inky clue tiny sot at the base of the sepals. very nice, stable, long lived clem.
this pic for 08 shows the coloration form opening to maturing in shady conditions. may folks plant this in too much sun and the bloom looks ordinary then ,as it bleaches up unattractively.
no im zone 5 mine is budding now will bloom by the end of the month I hope babies from last year most will give me some blooms one is budding already
Is that why your not answering your door mocatmom, its me!!!^_^...hmmmm whats that about trellises you have them ALL made???don't have Ivan Olsson, looks nice on her site..saw 2 others I liked...I need white ones bad!!!
My 4 from Debbie at S.S.V are going to be shipped today!!! :)))
Only one I have thats blooming is Princess Diana, but most are loaded with buds...I thought I only had 30 clematis I have 38!!!need more...
welcome to clem 12 step demstratt!
I guess I'm hooked...got my notification # and they're on the way!!!
How many you got C.G...you belong to the club???
well i am in clem 12 step, but right now it is not working. i am hooked. am putting a lot in this spring. sorting out some old spreadsheets and handwritten garden diagrams too. super organized is the goal..as soon as i identify some of those chalk hill clems form last fall that got lost markers! i am close to 300 types of clems, and as over the years i have collected some duplicates at sales, etc there are probably 400 clem plants here. basically everything clem is is in 6 smaller garden areas, all of which are getting new plants this spring. i have a lot of babies right now, in the ground. they need water more often now as roots are not deep. the big gun clems do not need watering this time of year, we have a nice moist spring here. but the babies need it more often, if it is hot and sunny. we have a real spring here in central ohio.
nothing like a ssv order arriving....they pack out so neat it makes planting a pleasure, esp if you have those holes already dug.....andi noticed somewhere you do that too. so enjoy your order and putting those babies in. my ssv order when in aobt 2 weeks ago and i will say some of them have really taken off. tuchka and justa, others too, but both those are really standouts on hitting the ground running.
brushwood garden vines is arriving this week and some more ssv.....ooh, yep i have clem fever still after almost 10 years. and some of the established plants are on steroids type growth ....for two full years i have been on the fall and spring soil ammendment and top dressing program and i am feeling like it is working.
Mocat, I was wondering the same thing about Ivan Olsson. CG, your combination with Otto Froebel sounds pretty. I am putting together another order to SSV and am going to order Ivan O. What do you think about pairing him with Omoshiro?
Oh, punkysmamaw, I just noticed you live near me. I live in Anderson Township in Woodland Mound Park area. A couple of miles from you, no doubt.
I got a notice that my SSV clems are on the way, too. Debbie was so sweet, after I ordered, she e-mailed me back to advise that one of the clems I ordered was not up to standards adn that I should choose another. After that she advised me just the right one to grow on my carriage lamp post.
Now to get those holes dug!
WOW........Guru your our idol.you win hands down...how many acres you have?????
Tabasco you joining the 12 step program???what ones are you getting??
Punkysmamaw..you gotta post a pics.once they start blooming...sounds good...did you ask Debbie??
2 acres. 7 different clem areas. lotta shrubs. someone came over to look at garden last year. we did the walk around. all good. as they were leaving , she said " i just realized you have no annuals!"
no annuals. all perennials, hostas, shrubs and clems the focal point.
used to do the petunia thing big time before i got in to clems.
see at the 12 step meeting for clem addicts!
Guru that is amazing and I wish I had that much space, one acre is about all I have but I'm taking out the perennials and doing the rose/clem/tree/shrub thing. I still must have a few annuals and my large pots on the deck with Lantana, petunia and some painted lady runner beans, then cleome in white mixed with white cosmo and scarlet runner bean in the white mix. Some I won't be able to give up. I posted on the newer clem thread the recently planted combos but need to get pictures when they bloom (roses with clems).
Guru, what do you think is the best red for long flowering, large or good size flowers that gets large in growth? I need a monster and I know Debbie is swamped with orders right now, so I wanted your take on it.
Punky,
Ivan looks good with Ramona or Bourbon, Westerplatte or Niobe. Westerplatte is one that blooms like crazy according to Silver Star.
shitzumom: the 2 best reds for me are ville de lyon and rouge cardinal. much more reliable than ernest. can't compare to westerplatte, rebecca as mine are newer. but ville and rouge have been in my gardens for years and they come on quick (rouge cardinal established faster i think) and they are non stop good. little to no wilt, good in this zone 5. probably amazing in your zone. i have put a lot of reds in the last two years, but that is not long enough with a clem for me to know a lot about it. put in the aforementioned westerp, rebecca, hoshi no flamenco, sunset, and a host of others year and this spring and i realized i was light on reds.
i took all my "country garden" perennials out a few years ago by having a "dig your own" for people i knew or friends of friends, to take out a lot of of day lilles, common iris, rudbekia, cone f's etcetc. it was a big transition but one i have never regretted. i have one little country garden left and do a few perennials at the base of some clems in one garden. no annuals. have never looked back, but i enjoyed that garden style too. it's all good!
I need more reds and whites in my garden...I love any kind of flowers the more the better and lots of containers!!!
Now I gotta go look up that Westerplatte, think kittymom posted a picture of hers
tabasco, oh my gosh! We DO live literally a few miles away! That's awesome! I am rarely able to get on DG as I leave really early and am only able to "lurk" every now & then! But, I am hoping that will improve!
shitzumom, Ramona is a great idea! I just put in Westerplatte and Niobe (different spots) but could easily put Ivan next to them as well.
Demstratt, no, I did not ask Debbie. Think I will email her right now so I can get the next order together. Ordered Niobe, Westerplatte, Perle de Azure, Prince Charles, Rouge Cardinal, Rebecca, Guernsey Cream and Piilu from SSV. Already had Multi Blue, Will Goodwin, Comptesse de B, Hagley Hybride, Blue Light and a couple Mrs. Chomondelay on a couple Social Climber pink roses. Also just got a couple of the Omoshiro and Parasol babies. Now I am hooked! Need to make a decision soon so I can place the next SSV order asap. Could not fall asleep last night trying to decide what should go where!!
Just love the look of Ivan, thanks Mocat!
Thanks to all for your help and kind welcome! Will post pics as the season progresses! Have a wonderful day all you enablers! Gotta get on the road!!
love social climber rose. it is one of the few i have done well with!
I just love any vertical grower it makes such a statement in the garden

me too!
Is Red Cardinal & Rouge Cardinal the same plant only a different name???my friends is marked Red Cardinal, mines Rouge Cardinal and they look the same!!!
My order came in from S.S.V...Got those babies all in their new home!!!
demstratt, i saw red cardinal in the stores this year around here, i am assuming it is the same. guess they wanted to make the name more US friendly? it is a great clem. mine is so vigorous after just a few years, so when i saw some local ones on sale around here i picked them up last summer and am using them in other places with clems that are coming on slower.
it is a great clem!
