another shot looking downstream.
Garden Photos - Part 16
work out.... me..... HA.... yes i usually sleep on the weekends... but my dog got stung by a bee yesterday.... and woke me up running around the bed trying to itch the spot
love those unexpected shots... nice and clear too
Ahh thanks. I'm on a really archaic computer with a super slow connection, so loading any picture is a feat in itself! Sorry to hear about you dog. That's never fun to deal with! Getting woken up in the middle of the night is one of my pet peeves, but at least your dog has a really good excuse! Maybe you'll be able to go back to sleep or get a nap in!
What a great thread.
Isn't it great to see everyone's gardens and get ideas, and make lists, and drool, and plan, and learn? I have no photo offerings for today ... yet. And I just love looking at every one that you guys and gals have posted here. These threads are an education in themselves, in my opinion.
definitely. Especially the part about the lists (waiting list for me) and much drooling. I took a picture of a weed... so, I'm sure that you'lll be able to come up with some photo offerings!
The "photo offerings' almost sounds cult like, something like..... if we don't produce photos to offer to the davesgarden spirits, our gardens will suffer and a thousand new weeds will sprout.
LOL!
Ain't it the truth, though!!
ya know, I think it is! and in that event, i'm going to stock up on photos now for the winter!
In the summertime, when the weather is high......
I will be back.... I have to go look up that rhody
that is cool.... I would just throw some mulch over the top of that planter... good to go
Good idea, onewish. I'll hide the evidence of what was done even better. Forgot to mention, the planter is a 15 gallon Easi-Lift grow bag that costs only a few bucks. Nothing fancy.
Cool, David. Great shots, Shelly and thank you. Good to have you back! So jealous of your river.
Redchic01, the TBI 'Spiced Tiger' was from SCHREINER'S IRIS and it is still in there catalog. I paid 7.50 for it last summer. I am going to order some more dark ones, reds and browns. Love those the most. I was happy to see your red bud, 'Forest Pansy' as I have been reading about that one. Yesterday I told the DH that I wanted a red bud as it was my favorite growing up in Okla. Any one in NE on this forum, growing red buds?
I planted my new shad and a mugo pine yesterday in a new bed that we dug yesterday. I am about to dig up some sweet-fern, Comptonia peregrina to add to this new bed plus some stuff from the farm/nursery that is having a sale today. 20% off everything.
I also dug up part of the grass where the old boat has been sitting since 1990 to enlarge the driveway. I still have more to do, but the body needs to take a break today from more heavy digging. I got a deer tick attached to my arm, so I took 200mg doxycycline, so all should be well. Out to battle nut sedge in another new bed that I dug this spring. I also was in the PI yesterday, so I scrubbed down with Victor's recommended 'Tecnu', which has been great for me this spring/summer.
Here is primula, 'Green Lace' which I dearly love and it is about to need dividing. Thrilled. Patti

man, I have got to get off to work, but this place is addictive! Hmmm... going to have to bring my coworkers coffee now!
Bbrook, thanks for the info on the Spiced Tiger Iris. Can't believe that it's one of their cheap ones. The best part about it is that they're located with in a reasonable driving distance of me. It sounds like you knew that when you mentioned it?? The down side, I hate going there because it's sooooo hard to stay on budget. For some reason it's easy for me to stay away from the $50 plus ones, but I have a heck of a time not getting way to many of the cheap, pretty things!
I think that I remember Victor posting a picture of Forest Pansy when it was blooming, maybe. I just looked through the pictures of his garden again, but didn't see it. Anyhow, you might ask him!
I see that Wha is growing it 'Forest Pansy', which is great because I know that area of Ma. My son went to school near there for 5 years and I was always comparing plants growing there with those in Nantucket when we would visit him. Patti
Wow......what wonderful photos!
Victor - that patio looks like it's just perfect for a BBQ RU!!! LOL
Allison - love those astilbe!!
Dyane - "didn't get the memo on what daisy looks like." LOL
FlowerJen - love that color of your noid hydrangea!!
Here's a shot of our 1800s rose beside the road. It is so dainty, but so hardy.
Beautiful and peaceful photos, Louise. It must be a good feeling to look out and know that everything will be OK because the gardens are OK.
My entire garden is erratic.
Feel like a student - raising my hand...I know, I know! Glacial erratic http://www.maine.gov/doc/nrimc/mgs/explore/surficial/sites/aug04.htm The first time Rick visited Maine and we were traveling through Baxter State Park, he "educated" me :)
Was finally able to take a few pictures this week - raved about Yucca 'Color Guard' on one of the threads earlier this year. Love the evergreen foliage and the hint of pink it takes on in the winter but look - after 4 years it's blooming!
This Arisaema candidissimum has been miserably slow in sending up flowers. This year it has three but they're less than impressive, small and leaning? I think it's got something to do with the weird weather - wet, cool spring and then jumped right into hot, humid and drought conditions. Of course that hasn't stopped the weeds!
