I've finally had time to go thru the June pics and they are a wonderful group of pictures and what a nice chance to view some of the Mid-Atlantic gardens. I have just started to take some time to take a few pics of my own and was going to add them to the group. But I thought maybe it was time to start a new thread with more pics.
I'll start us off with a couple of Climbing Roses. This America came from last years Rose Co-op and is planted on the split rail fence in front of the house.
June Pics Continued
Gorgeous pics, Holly...lighting is very nice. Always a blessing when you have enough lighting w/o it being so harsh it distracts from the plants coloring.
My Water Hyacinths have not started to bloom yet, but they are multiplying. Have you looked at one of those flowers close up, the yellow in the top petal looks like a landing beacon for an insect to set down on the upturned stamen.
Holly, your America blooms are gorgeous. I have the regular New Dawn and it was covered with buds this year but quite a few of them balled up after we had that heavy rain week before last.
Thanks Hart, Here is a picture of my blooming front yard you can see the fence with the Roses on it. The Roses are planted on the yard side of the post and I have Creeping Phlox planted (not flowering now) on the road side + there are two Creeping Phlox planted between each post. There is also a couple of clematis planted on the fence as well but they are too young to flower yet. The new lamppost bed is looking pretty good. That's a Fuschia in the hanging basket by the entrance and there is another just out of sight at the end of the house. The wall pots on either side of the entrance have variegated vinca major, impatiens and a few pansies. The wreath (not in the picture) is hanging on the front wall to the left of the picture it has the same impatiens but with a variegated ivy instead of the vinca. The pots on the ground by the entrance are some of my Caladiums. The window boxes have Caladiums, Morning Glories and white Bacopa.
Edited to add: You can still see the rock pile on the right. Ric came home yesterday with the last of the rocks needed for the walkway. He expects to finish that up this weekend and start the new wall next week.

Gita, Very nice pics love the Hydrangeas.
My daylilies are starting to bloom I'm sure this is one of the ones I got from Ruby and John at last years swap.
I'll never forget Ruby trying to give me daylilies and me in my ignorance saying no I have lilies I don't need more. Then she would come back a little later and offer them again and I'd say no I really don't need them. And then Ric talking to John and coming back with pots and pots of lilies saying "Yes, Holly you really do want them. They aren't the same thing you have." Then hearing the story behind Johns parents and their Daylilies. It has made these plants so very special to me. Thanks Ruby and John.
Holly,
I KNOW you are not a reader/contributor to the "Best and Worst" Forum, but Sharon posted a while ago that she had these same red Lilies that she has carried over from her Grandmother's Garden. Sharon is in her 60's!
I an thinking----Hmmmmmmmmmm...so, these must really be an older variety! And to me--the most beautiful!
Like I have stated--I got mine from my neighbor's yard as the house had sat unoccupied for over a year. Neither of the Daughters were big gardeners, so i was trying to salvage what i could. Felt like I was "stealing" something.....But--I was, actually, rescuing some wonderful plants that were doomed to be trashed. Another one was the two-toned blue Iris. I KNOW these came from my neighbor's father--who owned a bulb Nursery in Southern MD. (Easton?). He was from Holland. He gave them to her. Need I say more?
I just love the dark red and yellow in the blooms on this Lily! The petals are also very firm and solid. A real keeper!
Now--I have to wait and see what color the Daylilies will be that I gave to Larienda (the bushel-basket-sized clump) at Bec's Swap, as I have 3 pots of the same Lily I planted from my neighbor's discarded clump. Rescuing some--as usual! I don't think it will be long.......Will post pictures when they bloom. They had long ago stopped blooming. Too root-bound! That is why my Non-Gardening neighbor just dug them up and wanted to throw them away.
Gita to the rescue...................Ta--Dahh!
This is a "sad" picture.....My 30+ year-old Clump Birch came up totally DEAD this Spring!!!! GONE! Over the years--it had lost a trunk or two, but I always chose a sucker to take it's place. I did that also a couple of years ago. Oh, the sucker is going gung-ho!
But--the rest of the trunks (4) are ALL dead!
Will be cutting it down this fall. No time now.....
Gita
Here's my dead Birch Tree.....:o(
Gita, that's a shame about your river birch. They're such nice trees.
Holly, who was the vendor for that rose coop? That's a really nice looking plant. You all did a fantastic job with the lamppost bed.
Gita, this is one of my very favorite daylilies and it's red with a yellow star in the center. It's Dragon King and isn't a really expensive one or hard to find. It blooms and blooms and blooms and blooms and is a very vigorous plant too.
Gita, RIP on your birch. I have some of the Betsys red daylilies that you gave away. Also, maybe tomorrow, will have an open bud on a Ruby-John contribution, the buds look fat and nice, peachy colored. Another Ruby-John one looks a lot like Stella D'Oro only a pretty lemony yellow instead of the Stella darker yellow.
This is a picture of my neighbor's yellow Lily. It has been there for years! Beautiful!
Guess what? The rabbits chewed the stems down. They did that on mine too. Ate all the leaves off of it! Luckily--it was done blooming.
I hate the looks of it--but I have had rabbit fencing around all my beds every year.
I am going to start a post on rabbit damage--just not tonight! It is SOOO frustrating! You feel SOOO helpless.....Never seen so many rabbits before!
WHERE oh WHERE is my Black Snake I had a few years ago??????? PLEEEEEASE come back!!!!!!!!
He/she could grow fat on all the Chipmunks and baby rabbits around here this year!!!!
WHERE are all the Hawks??? I bet they cannot see them for all the trees we have here in out back yards....
Gita
Wow! That's a gorgeous daylily! Did you hybridize it yourself?
Some lovely photos and I've really enjoyed looking at all of them! Finally took an opportunity to get a few yesterday morning to share. Not sure what's up with this one this year - usually the blooms are held "above" the foliage? Regardless it's still one of my favorite Arisaemas - A. heterophyllum (tall one in the middle)
Beautiful pics everyone, I just did the morning garden tour and doesn't look like anything new is blooming yet, but there are quite a few buds ready to burst open. I may get a couple of pictures before the end of the day.
Gita sorry to hear about you Clump Birch. They don't seem to do very well in the warmer climates. I had been told that in our area it is a little warm for them and that makes them prone to disease. Yours certainly was an old one. I have one that Ric drug home and won't get rid of. It's the baine of my front yard. Although generally pretty trees this one has two main trunks the hang forward, last winter during an ice storm they drooped so far that they ice bonded to the car. LOL
Hart. They came from Great Lake Roses. There is a website but for some reason I don't think they ship plants. Diamond Dan lives some what close to the vendor and picked up two truck loads and shipped them.
I built this garden to be my take on an English garden. When I am walking up my steps to my front door this is the image I see. I have a terraced retaining wall surrounding that bed and three other beds coming up the walkway which I built. My husband started the inside bed closest to the house and I had to finish the terracing beds (on the outside of the walkway) myself because he started to work on the deck with his dad. It wasn't easy (especially on a slope) but well worth it in the end. It changed the whole appearance of the house.
