Butterfly weed usually refers to Asclepias tuberosa. Stormyla's plant looks like swamp milkweed, Asclepias incarnata. I have hundreds of them I have to pull up, only one is about to bloom.

Here's a Joe Pye growing buds:

I hope to see some cardinal flowers this year, they're getting redder

Clay I think you are right about the milkweed the leaves had me fooled, I am so use to seeing Common Milkweed which I have in my yard for the Monarchs.
Yep, the Cherry Bells are campanulas, I tried to get a picture of the inside of the flower, the only way to see it is to lay on the ground and look up. Sorry not a clear picture.

Claypa, You're saying it's a weed??? I seem to be spending more time, decultivating than anything else. Can you send me a photo of your weed. Thanks

Lady, I love the color of the foliage on those Cherry Bells.

No way! I planted them on purpose a year and a half ago. I had a nice big clump at the end of the driveway, all pink with one white one. I probably scattered some seeds there "just to make sure" there'd be more this year - well, no need to worry about that, because there are HUNDREDS of little seedlings down there. No big deal, I moved a few to a better spot and let a bunch grow right where they were. I only want a few dozen or fewer - the rest are extras - I guess that makes them weeds, in my case.

But this one came up in the backyard (bad pic), and it must have gotten a head start somehow. It's a lot bigger.

Some plants called "weed" are just old-time farmer's lingo for whatever wasn't the crop they were growing. Ironweed, milkweed, pokeweed, butterfly weed, and lots more are just native American plants, some with garden merit, some maybe not. But I always let a few pokeweeds grow. They're nice green foliage, they don't bother me, and the birds love it.

Thanks, Claypa! Love the night photo shot!!!! I did plant this. I looked in my records, I have a section that only has native plants and this is one. I planted 4 or 5 kinds of Asclepias, but this seems to be the one that stays fully upright. The winds here made the Butterfly weed almost horizontal. I'm so happy that I don't have to rip another one out!!!!

Chantell, I like your little corner. Tell me about that wire fence, please. What are you growing in those pots?

Ahhh thank you Stormy!! Those mad mess of red flowers are Monarda - wish I could remember I think Scarlet. The fence is to keep the dogs out of that area ^_^....the honeysuckle has started to intertwine along it. Pots hold Plumerias. So many of the pretties in between are plants that fellow DGers were generous enough to share at the last swap. It's a big ole hodge podge of stuff but I like it. I've added trellis to the back - have more vining plants to put back there. Hoping next year to cover it with MG's and such!!!

Chantell, I had no idea that Plumeria would grow in Va. I always thought that it was tropical only.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Believe me they are tropical..that's why they're in pots...sure they'd love to be IN the ground but I dont' have the patience to dig all of them up each fall so they stay in various size nursery pots...speaking of which I need to find some 5 gal ones for a couple of them. Any who...once night temps are dipping below 50 they come inside till the night temps are 50+. I just let them go dormant...they loose all their leaves and look rather ugly for a few months...
