Yeah, Happy. RCN is probably just arisen. I have yet to retire. What about you?
June Pics Continued
As I recall, a lot of the plants are really for dappled shade, not the tough problem of deep shade. I might be misremembering.
You haven't gone to bed yet? Whoa.
I am way behind on a work project, so I got up against every fiber in my being. I'd go back to that nice warm bed in a heartbeat, but for the moment I need my paycheck! And now I'm frittering away the time.
RCN is a morning person. But why are you up so very very late?
I'll look tomorrow. That's the 2nd group of plants I've ripped out of that section this week. The other was Artemisia limelight.
I was doing a lot of research for a client until the wee hours and came on here to relax. Will retire very shortly.
Just "arisen" - heck I've been up for hours!! LOL
Debbie: Don't you ever sleep? I wish I had your stamina!
RCN, I don't think I want to know your schedule. It might make me feel like a slacker!!!
LOL Happy, the "stamina" dies around 8 PM :(((
Mine dies not much past yours -- but I'm not up at 3:30 (or whatever awful hour it is that you arise!).
I could choke/strangle my neighbor. She plants things and then neglects them. She had this beautiful white rose bush. Big fluffy white roses. Although neglected, it always bloomed. I was waiting for it to take a break and I was going to go trim it up for her (as I usually do). In the same garden she had beautuful, huge yellow iris. I put those in for her 5 years ago when she complained about the blank space.
Well, went out last evening and here she has torn everything out of that garden. There is NOTHING but a pile of mulch.
Can I report her for MURDER????? She didn't offer any of the other gardening neighbors any of the plants. I'm just hoping some of the iris bulbs are still there and I will take them when they come up in the spring. Somehow she had all the yellow and I have all the purple ones.
Sounds just like my new neighbor who cut down most everything and has dug up most of the bulbs and beds. I confiscated the bulbs from ONE bed and took them to the Swap. Now, I think, he wants to dig up all the root-bound clumps of lilies along the back.
He has sheared all the remaining Hollies and Nandinas into a "lollipop" shape. He has this mistaken notion that aany bushes near the house will cause water problems.
His wife and daughter (who bought the house for her parents) LOVE gardening--but in the culture of Pakistan--the man rules--even if he is an idiot! They have NO say......
Now on the front corner, where there used to be this beautiful Buford Holly and a variegated Acuba--he keeps all the trash cans and asst. junk. Visible from the street! Looks like a ghetto house!
I love the mother and the daughter--they are so sweet. They love me too--and will water and take care of my garden while i am gone on my trip.
LEAVING TOMORROW!!!! Be back July 22nd.
Gita
Don't even get me started on idiot neighbors. Our old neighbor got the house from her ex whose grandmother had passed away. When she moved in she dug up EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!! leaving dirt, weeds and I guess you could call it grass. Even cut down all the TREES!!!
So, of course anything that used to shade my yard from that side...GONE!!!
Well my new neighbors cut down the Forsythia hedge that bordered my big bed 2 years ago and planted NOTHING. So now every invasive weed species flourishes there. They never mow or wack it. They love the Garlic Mustard flowers. Now, I weed at least 2 ' into their property and occasionally spray it. They also removed the bottom limbs on several magnolias and didn't mulch, also 2 years ago. That is now a dandelion factory, which they never cut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm another one that weeds into neighbor's yard...I do not want Dandelion going to seed and going into my yard...NO thank you!! I cringe if I ever have to get rid of a plant...I'm more likely to transplant it up toward the woods or find a friend/neighbor who'd like it!!
Ok...so as is the custom in my yard...I wait patiently (sometimes overly so) for blooms...after waiting so long I "threaten" the plant...actually just make a comment to a household member (anyone that will listen to me rant about my plants for that given moment) that, THAT plants "oughta here"...."tired of no blooms..." yadda, yadda, yadda. These statements are better then fish emulsion for "encouraging" plants to get with the program. So back to the story...I've had mystery "stalks" coming up beside my Provence Lavender for I know 4 years...every year I wait...wait for buds - blooms...something other then these nice green stalk type things that take up room...grrr. I had just said last month..."that's it - THOSE are getting dug up...I'm tired of it...AND have no earthy idea what the heck they are!!!!!!!!!!!" I came home tonight...to this
It appears to be a glad of some sort...very pretty with a splash of white and some pink on the fringes..but FOUR years? Geez!!! Then I went out back and whaaa laaaa!!! This one I knew was coming b/c I'd seen the inflo on it...but again, I have to tell you - not one single plumie bloomed for me last year. I was seriously considering trading or placing them as they take up considerable room in my living room during the winter (looking rather ugly in their dormant state, I might add). Now of course I've got three of them with inflos....
Meant to add...this morning when I was letting the dogs out I noticed bright purple in a spot that I knew I'd only planted oranges - reds - some yellows. Tonight I go down and look....Jill's pot of honeysuckle she shared (still needs planted...but loves its area) had a roommate!!! Pretty little baby...Morning Glory!!! So double thanks Jill!!! ^_^ Hate to break them up but the MG's gonna go join the passi's...I'll let her grow up them since their vines are thicker....what fun. I'll try to get a pick in the morning if a bloom is opened up!!
Wow, Chantell, That Glad's a beauty! Good things come to those who sometimes wait.
Here are my "NOT" Not Chocolate Daisy. I can't remember what they are I got them from Critter and all I can remember is that they are "Not" what she originally thought they were and there was a big discussion on what they really were. When ever someone asks me what they are I tell them they are "Nots". Well whatever they are they look nice and are really blooming nicely. LOL
BTW can you tell they are planted near one of the bird feeders???

Holly, love that Walkabout - I had totally forgotten about this plant - had wanted one last year and missed out on them...hmmm a friend is visiting the nursery today where I saw it last year, maybe I'll give her a call and ask her to look for it! LOL
claypa, beautiful yellow Daylily, and fragrant! Chantell and Chloe, what do you think?
stormyla, here's the link for the list of plants for "dry shade" :)

Holly how do you keep Fuchsia alive this time of year...are your temps that much cooler then ours? I'd love to have a basket of those...tried years ago and they always died on me...sniffle, sniffle
Gee Chantell, I didn't realize that they were heat sensitive. When I get them I always have them on the front of the house which is a north facing wall. They get plenty of morning sun and in to early afternoon but miss the very late sun. Maybe that keeps enough of the heat off of them. I was looking for a picture but had no luck. When I first put them up the one on the corner hung directly over a white azalea boy did that look great. If I find the picture I will post it.
Verbascum "Dark Eyes"
Storm. the leaves and flowers look like butterfly weed but I didn't think it came in that color. It is pretty!
