Liz......He was a character, I'm a character and when somebody who is a character tells you somebody is a character, well, they're a sure nuff character........:)

Seedtosser, Linda say howdy and hello to everyone as she passes out on to the bed, we been to Birmingham today, the city does that to us, we don't want to see anymore cars for a week at least, not even our own.......:)
Paul from Alabama
Paul that you sure are. A character that is. lol
Evening all, girls just left..I was a bit late getting home, would you believe 400 north was closed again, tractor trailer and a few cars..helicopter was there taking them off to the hospital..we truly DO take our lives in our hands each and every day we drive to work to the city..terrible driving habits and dangerous..
Was outside a few times to see the 'soltice moon' but it is so heavy with black clouds and rain that I didn't get to see it..was so looking forward to it...told all the girls about it then NOT...
Laura, I'm so terribly sorry you've the flu again, bad back and bedridden..sending soft hugs and prayers...hopefully tomorrow you'll have a 'grandchild' waiting is so hard isn't it...
Dawn, yes it is normal to wait that long, many of my packages to the USA take 2 to 3 weeks...don't know why I thought your daughter was closer to her date, think it was because she was perhaps coming to live with you and Greg...best to her..how is the job hunting going? Are you soon to have the appt. at NASA base?
Bev sorry to hear about the ants..need ants for peonies right?
Cat, think we're all having the same type of weather..it's just starting raining here and I think they are calling for same Thurs. & Fri. - please, please not Sat. & Sun.
Well it's a long time since 4:45am, I'm tired so off to bed I go...
Best of today...invitation to a dear friends birthday party..he's turning 74..why have a party at 74 when 75 more of a celebration #..wel'll he's not doing well, won't make 75...
Worse of today..Sharon (sister) tried to light the gas heater for her swimming pool, guess she left the gas on a little longer than she should have and there was an explosion...burnt hair, fingers..everything went flying even in the pool shed..she's lucky she's alive...
What did I learn today? met yet another wonderful lady on DG..she reached out and touched my heart....
Sweet dreams everyone...
HI all,
Just got caught up reading.
I forgot to "watch thread" when Betty moved us over...and I just found you.

Tha same kind as I got a photo of yesterday..as well as a Viceroy.
I just had the yellow and black one ID'd on the butterfly forum.
Sweet Dreams Betty.........

Carol, what's the weather like in your area, are you getting the same storm...another major accident tonight..guess you heard about it on the news...I must take a look and see what butterflies I have in my garden..butterfly bushes are sure growing....
This time I really am off to bed..
Betty it fell through, they sent me an email that said they picked someone already. I sent them a thank you note for letting me know and to keep me in mind for the future.
I called my friend who works there and she gave me her bosses phone #, so I called today to check the status of my resume and she didn't remember seeing it, so asked me to send it again. I did with a nice note. I heard nothing from my friend or the boss so I don't think it seems good for today. Oh well. I put scriptures around my house to lift me up and I can read them if I start to feel down or scared. Greg loved them. Romans 8:31 What shall we say to these things? If God be with us, who can be against us? Like that?
I still have aphids and they seem to be doing some damage. I need to get the exterminator neighbors out again.
Sorry Dawn that you didn't get getter news..the uplifting scriptures are sure to help you during this stressful time...must be overwhelming wanting to be in the work force and not finding anything in your field..will be praying for you..how's DD doing today? Any news on your SIL..sending prayers for all of them..
It is a bit overcast here this morning, calling for yet more rain...may it be today and not the weekend...it's cool in the house but I'm not about to turn the furnace on..a sweater will do..
So what do you all have planned for today? Looking forward to hearing about it AND looking at photo's of those beautiful gardens...
Talk when I'm in the city...
Morning everyone,
Yes Betty I did see that accident on the news last evening..and thought of you travelling home.
We didn't get the storm though..but it sure is unusually cool. Did I mention that my neighbours left on Monday to go camping for two weeks in Algonquin Park. They must be very chilly up there.
But they do have a cozy trailer.
Judy..this is the link to Joseph's Coat rose in Plantfiles.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/367/
Maybe yours was mislabelled when you bought it. Can you show us a photo?
I always read about it as a muti coloured rose. I think of it as being named after the story, Joseph's Coat of many colours.
Have a great everyone.
hello all
major drama this side of the world. had a nasty fall getting out of the bath. oh dear. slipped and hurt my back again and damaged a tendon in the other leg!!! fainted and woke vomiting so off in an ambulance to the hospital.
back home now after 4 hours... im all good. damaged but ok. and if that isnt enough the DD is in labour and we need to get going there! lol i can hardly walk!
so if u dont hear from me for a day or two dont panic... ok?
im ok.... prayers please.
xx
Wonder you have my prayers for all of what you are going through. HUGS BEV
Awe Laura, are you sure you are ok..you've just been fighting the flu and now this...know saying that you should be staying in bed is useless especially with DD having her baby...we'll be on pins and needles waiting to hear how you, grandchild and DD are doing...
Did the doctor's say what could have caused this? Now we are worried!
Beautiful Carol..I MUST try and drive over one day shortly as it seems if I don't I'll miss all of it's flowered beauty a little later on...
Here's a link my sister sent me with regards to the puppies..adorable

Paul - I have never heard such a funny story in all of my life. I know that Don Rickles pushes the bar sometimes and can end up being rather nasty to people. You and Skeet took it like troopers though.
Carol, Betty, Ves and all who posted lovely plant pictures, thank you all so much. I have pictures that I need to share and when I have an extra two minutes I will post them.
I am heading outside shortly to plant a few things that I bought at a Nursery yesterday. I will get these planted and in the next couple of days I would like to go back and purchase two other things that I saw and loved.
Dear, dear Laura - Be careful lady. What bad luck you are going through at the moment. Thank goodness that the fabric for your quilt is on the way by many who want to hug up on you and help you heal. Let us know when that baby gets here.
Ruby
Ruby oh my, you still have areas to plant after all your round-up treasures...so may I ask what kind of plants/shrubs are you seeking?
Hello!
Oh Goodness, Laura. I was so sorry to hear of your fall. Do get some rest so you can heal...prayers and good thoughts being said.
Carol, Oh my gosh, can't tell ya how red my cheeks are! LOL, I mixed up the names. I did have Josph's Coat Rose, the one single rose was lovley. I also have Jacob's Ladder...(which is the one I have moved and am trying to save) or at least I think it's a JL. I had only one photo of it and it's in my old computer! So will have to waite for this lil baby to bloom. Anyhow, now that i figured this puzzle out i am trying to locate it in my Rose book to make sure it IS the one I am thinking of. So forgive my moment of stupidity, while I gush at how slendid Your Joseph Coat, yep think it stunning diplay.
Man, I am so bored at work!! I can't stand sitting around with nothing to do! So I guess this here, is my idea of ranting and raving at this utterly non productive day. So, to appear busy, I have really enjoyed reading about Shar's trip.
Betty, sure hope you are feeling better today. Woah, I hope Sharon is doing good too. What a horrible thing to happen. Must have scared the daylights out of her and you to upon hearing what happen.
I hope you had a fun class. What are people working on these days?
I have been plugging away at my project in between appts. LOL, I am going to risk working on it this afternoon. Watch mgr and supervisor will be parading in out because of it. I haven't seen them since tues when the big wig was here, who never even peered into my area! So...Days have been long and tedious. Did a little writing, in the last couple of days, you know to occupy my time...LOL, I never mind a little down time but this is beyond rediculous.
Hi Ruby! Was wondering where you been. Good to see you are getting out to work in the gardens...Looking forward to seeing your garden shots.
Dawn, what a bummer about the lost resume. Something will come up. Keeping you in my thoughts for a wonderful new job for you.
Oh, have I told you? I have been asked to make a birdhouse for our cousins birthday! Also, the otherday, I was asked to create a diaper cake for a lady here at work. Very exciting.
Hi Ves!! What you up to these days?
ok, see you all in a bit!
Just got home from a bit of shopping. Had to go to the nursery and get a couple of things. Nothing major but fun looking and thinking. Then dropped off a box of rhubarb for a friend and chatted a few minutes with her DH. Then to pick up my meds. Then to the thrift store. Found a purse for a couple of bucks and 2 canning jars at a good price. Then to the grocery store for a few things and spent $26 there. Then figured I'd better head home .
No major projects. Still getting some flowers planted. Had to start watering yesterday. So hard to believe after the rain we got.
All the flower pictures are gorgeous. We are all so talented to be able to grow them.
Will try to write more later but have to water some more and plant a few things and do a couple of loads of laundry.
Jeannine glad your mom is doing better.
Betty I have to go and look at puppy pictures yet. Gita loved hearing about your family background.
Now I am going.
OMG Ves!!
Ihad no idea Dusty Miller flowers! They are awsom little yellow flowers.
I didn't either. These are the ones I wintered over in the GH and got my starts off of. Neat little discovery!
Hi Judy, just scrolled down and though the same..is it a dusty miller or is there a plant included in the container...if it is a dusty miller I've never seen a flower on all the ones I have..now I'll have to check this out..lol..
Judy, I was typing up invitations for Suzanne this morning to entertain myself .. as I'm painting the table and chair set as a baby gift, I thought I'd browse the wed just to look at other shower gifts and came across the diaper cake..now I also saw cupcakes that looked adorable and easy to make..so might do so, don't need the until July 27th..hey, might do one at your house as you know all the tricks...lol..
Judy know about work boredom..can't seem to fill my days..Paul will be going out for aft. meeting so it will be even more quiet..think I'll finish painting my leaves..brought in the correct colors today and then can get them mounted and framed...go for it Judy, can't you work behind your desk and keep one eye on them coming in, surely they must understand you hve no work..as for Paul, he encourages me to bring in something to work on..here Suzanne has been in a meeting with clients since 9:30 - Paul has been running from lawyers upstairs, to mortg. broker upstairs, to our other office and now in a meeting, as soon as he's free he's off to a meeting up north, Wayne well he's in a meeting but other than that he plays computer games and I have my trusted DG friends to keep me company..it's a drag though (not you guys - my not being busy lol) but it was payday, got paid highly for doing nothing..so, better just relax and enjoy..can't enjoy the weather as the s ky is completely black, wind coming up and rain on it's way...
So Vicki they really do have yellow flowers, how interesting..perhaps they are a specialized breed of Dusty Miller..for some reason as I go back and look at the leaves they seem to have more of a frilly leaf design...hmmm
Betty I think part of the reason is we grow them as an annual and usually don't have them long enough. So since I wintered them over they just kept growing.
There are2 or 3 different kinds that I know of.
Just went and looked at plant files, yep, beautiful yellow flowers..
Vicki mine are perennials and come back and are starting to take over the gardens..on one of the threads they mentioned that the flower in southern areas more so than the north so that could be why..am sure I'll be dropping into a nursery over the next few days (who can resist) and I'll ask...wouldn't it be nice though to have them flower...
Betty..I think yours might be Artemsia Valerie Finnis or Silver King..
I had some once and it took over the spot..so I moved it to the back of my property.
http://www.perennials.com/seeplant.html?item=1.075.800
I notice that you have a Persian cornflower in your lovely bed there in front.
I have one too..I will post a photo.
I went to the puppy site..what cute puppies..your sister must be in heaven.
Judy..you are so cute....gushing yet!..but I feel like gushing when I look at this rose too...LOL
Vicki..we learned something today....I didn't know that if kept over that the dusty miller would bloom.
I don't have any this year..but have grown it in the past.
So pretty Carol!
Ok..now I have something to show you gals.
My friend mentioned the other day that a Garden place that isn't too far had really expanded their stock and had a whole lot of garden decorations..and so she and I went today. As we went inside..she said "hang on to your wallet" LOL
I was ohhhing and ahhing the whole time..most of it was so unusual..and some was quite expensive..others not so..
everything you could imagine there...lots of rustic things that I love.
I bought a few 4 paks of plants to fill in a few spots. I got Ganzania, assorted coloured lobelia and some bronze leaf pink flower begonias.
I saw lots of lovely things ..but I have so much already....and then I spotted this! Only 20 dollars..
and I snapped it up..and said to Sheila..this is it!!!!
I just opened it up and put it on the deck to take a photo to show you..it is cool and windy out..and looks like rain so I will wait to place it in the Secret Garden.
I plan to grow Brown eyed susan vine (Thunbergia) up it. I have lots of babies that need a home that I grew from seed.
Betty..I am sure you would go crazy in there..but you have so much already too.
But you know,... you can get ideas.
You must come one day....just let me know when you have the time. I am free most of the time.
Cheers,
Carol
Thanks Vicki..can you see your 'Starzz" things? I think of you when I look at them.
That is just to cool, Ves!
now when you started them did you do a leaf cutting?
I have seen leaf cutting with Colius but never tried.
Now, it is such a plesant discovery for sure. Oh my gosh you will be able to collect the seeds!!
One year, I left a few of the DM in the ground, covered them well with leaf mulch, and to my surprise a couple grew back in the spring! LOL, only happened once tho.
Sounds like you had a busy Morning! Tomorrow, I have a half a day. I a little excited, if the weather stays like it has been it will be wonderful to work outside.
Haven't in a while and the gardens are starting to take on the wild thing look!
Oh Betty, would love to create a baby cake with you, you will find them easy and a whole lot of fun to make.
OK..now, I have to get working on my project...
Judy, Vicky and anyone else.....
Dusty Miller usually survives the winter and continues growing the following Summer. In it's second year, it "goes to seed" (just like parsley) and that is when they send up these stalks and bloom. They do not bloom the first year you plant them--but they are prettier.
I generally do not like the foliage any more in their second year. It looks 'scrubby" and not so powdery white any more. So, I usually yank mine in the Fall.
Mystery solved???? I hope so!
Gita
Here's my Endless Summer Hydrangea. Just took this photo today.
Gita is that a light pink or lilac? So pretty! I think the DM is still pretty this year. I just potted up 2 of them for the summer and to winter over again. It was fun starting them last winter or should I say very late winter?
Bev those are pretty. Mine are starting to bud. Can hardly wait. Orange flowers are pretty but if I have to many they get on my nerves. I know weird but what can I say.
Carol I meant to say I was so busy looking at the trellis I actually didn't look at anything else! Shame on me! So glad you are still happy with them.
Came in for a snack and no snack but here I am!
Hello folks - Betty, one of the plants that I want to buy when I go back to the nursery is a miniature rose. I have never had rose nor been very interested in planting them. But.....for some reason this one caught my eye and I want to give it a try. Any tips or suggestions for a "virgin" rose grower?
I remember as a kid my neighbor had a really lovely rose bush growing on a trellis which coverd their whole front porch. I always thought that it was cool. She also had a Mimosa tree and a very large and full Hydrangea. I remember my mother complaining about how messy the last two plants mentioned were.
I don't know the name of the other plant that I am going to buy. I have had one as a housplant for several years now. I recently saw it being used outside planted in the ground and I want to buy one, plant in ground and then take up before frost and bring indoors for the winter. I hope that I succeed in doing so. After I buy it, I will post the name of it for you.
If I had lots of money and lots more planting space, I could have spent a mint yesterday at the nursery. As is stands, I will be getting by without it costing too much. A bit ago I was outside planting yesterday's haul and also decided to plant a coleus that I have had as a houseplant for at least a year and maybe longer. It was beginning to look bad in it's pot, so I unpotted it and planted it in a back bed. If it lives and thrives, I will take some cuttings of it before the frost and have as a houseplant again.
Sharran, I am picking up bits and pieces about your trip. Is there a place to go and read further? So glad that you are having a good time. Sounds like a very interesting place to be.
Ruby
Bev, Carol and Gita - some lovely blooms. I have the Nikko Blue too Carol and it now has about 4 blooms on it and is only about two foot high currently. Today is the first day for me to see the blooms. I am so excited.
Ruby
Great to hear about your plants Ruby..
My Nikko is just forming buds now..the weather here has been so cool lately.
I must give it some fertilizer....maybe I should do that now..LOL
I don't know what I do wrong with my hy but it won't bloom and doesn't get very big. I have had it for years and it gets part shade part sun and just sets there and wilts all summer. HELP> BEV
