JD - yes, some light is showing - not only all around the walls but at the end of the tunnel as well....as of the last conference a few minutes ago, it seems that we are hopefully at the end of the surprises. We now have to add to the project the replacement of a cross-beam under the center of our guest room. With any luck, that's the end of the unknowns. On an upnote, in the birthing room that will be DH's office, they discovered some very thick and very cool old whitewashed paneling behind the plaster etc.. So my DH knocked out all of the plaster in the room and let it fall right down into the open hole under what will be the floor when the room is put back together. Some of the wall boards are about 18 inches wide. Those boards are also behind the (now damaged) plaster in the guest room, so we think we'll knock out the plaster in that room too and expose the wide wall boards. There's always a positive if you look hard enough. This photo shows the thick paneling on the new window wall.
Another positive is that the huge bone is no one I know. LOL The consensus is that it is an oxen bone from the 18th century. We have the original ox bow that was in our carriage shed suspended from the high beams in our family room. It is very cool.
We had a few drops of rain when I was planting a couple of dahlias up in my veggie garden area. Now it is just cool and cloudy. Good weather for tearing down a house board by board.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 23
Cool! Sell the ox bone on eBay to defray the costs. Claim some colonial significance. GW's favorite ox?
57 and raining.
Love the original paneling, Louise--your house will be good as new--er , old--pretty soon! The weather here is just awful---we've hit every shower every day--and it's cold--jeans & sweater today--back to winter meals--corned beef & cabbage tonight--no one wants to BBQ!
you must be so excited / nervous Louise... glad to see it getting further along
love those colors WC
Raining nicely here. Bout time it behaved out there.
very pretty Victor
It's downright chilly right now after a beautiful day. Had 2 rainstorms go thru. down to 55
Thanks Allison. Jen, I'm not complaining. Love this!
Me too, I said at work yesterday - it was absolutely gorgeous outside - and they thought I was nuts cause it was cool.
GUYS TOO COOL! GIVE ME THE WARM WEATHER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CLEMEN, first day of summer this week end!
wow it's cool out.... just let the dogs out and saw my breath
Beautiful pic Victor. Cool and rainy yesterday. Hope it gets better for the weekend. Jenn and I are going on our first camping trip of the season with the tent camper. Eleanor
WC - I am to your north. Great thunder boomers last night, and man, did it pour.
Awesome shot Victor.
Pack your long johns, Eleanor. lol. Hope you have a good, relaxing, mind clearing time.
Thank you. We did not get much rain. Cool again this AM. 55 and mostly sunny.
I'm not complaining either. I hate the hot weather.
That's a 'greener' solution to mowing, WC! 72 and gorgeous here. As we near solstice, sunrise is 5:23 and sunset is 8:32.
Eleanor - thank you for the lovely rose! That did a lot for my spirits!
Thank you, Robin. I must admit that it will feel good once the house is all put back together. I think we have about another week of work to go before the clean up.
Victor - grand idea about Ebay and the bone. Think anyone would want to pay, say.....twelve grand for it????? LOL No doubt it is from the colonial days.
Another absolutely pristine New England day here.....70 degrees and crystal clear outside. We haven't had any rain for a couple of days now. That's a good thing with all the lumber and beams scattered all over the yard.
Would anyone like to visit our current guest room? Looks inviting, huh? It's what you would call "split level".....LOL
WC and Victor - those are both lovely photos!
Allison - yes......we are very happy to be seeing some good progress. This is a shot of our front porch at the moment.....it cracks me up to see my barrel of pansies sitting there among the carnage. These guys seem to get it that I need a glimpse of floral beauty here and there. LOL
You caught his best side, Louise! Hee hee. You left your keys in the door! Same beautiful weather here, only I call it a pristine NY day...Just in from playing with the boys. Perfect right now.
Victor - funny thing about why the keys are in the door......they have to keep checking continually to make sure the door will close and the key will lock as they raise the floor of the guest room. I am so impressed with these guys. They accomplish so much in a day's time. Today, they put in 6 heavy, huge beams (all had to be notched and cut to fit in with the other beams) and then they mixed up 25 bags of concrete and put it by hand under each of the new sills on two sides of the house. Glad you had fun playing outside with the boys. Do they like the new patio?
Wow, that is impressive. Yes, the boys love the patio.
Much better day today--I babysat HayHay & Anni for most of it--Grant went with his Mom. Weeded veggie garden when I got home--it was damp, but not squishy--the weeds were giants! I can now actually see my beets & carrots--put a trellis up for the cukes. Will sleep tonight!
64 and cloudy now. Get some well-deserved rest, Robin!
pansies look great!.... man you are doing so much work.... i would be exhausted
What a great day -didn't have to have the a/c on at all. I love it like that, even had dinner on the deck.
WC - i loved the funny bunny snacking pic, but i think i like the elegant one even more!
Cool morning again. 59 and sunny. Rain in the forecast.
Rain here too but not much-
Cloudy sun is peeking under heavy dark ones.
I don't think its going to be much of a day.
Robin - hope you had a good night's sleep! You sure earned it!
WC - great shot of the munching bunny. Love it!
I'm not sure if we are going to get any rain this morning or not. It's nice and cool here this morning - 60 degrees presently.
still low and cloudy, brief sun spots,"nothing to write home about"
The things they call art.....
I agree ! This thing is just creepy.
